Hey there! Been a while. I've been out of the community for ages, almost a decade. I want to get involved again but my life circumstances are a little crazy. I'm not trying to make any Quest Den faus pas so I wanted to ask a couple questions

So first, I'm dying to run a quest again. I have run 5 in the past and they've mostly been a mess. I'm a little proud of Rag Girl, though. I'd love to get back to it but its been almost a decade and I think it'll be pretty darn hard to bring the old posting crew in, if they're still around, and even harder to bring new people in considering it's a somewhat established write quest. “Hi, enjoy the quest, but first do your homework.”

My plan is to start something new, but again my life is insane. My availabilities are super limited. My best shot is to do super long, daily-ish updates. And that kinda sucks, right? Like, write quests were always a little 'eh' because a big magic in questing was seeing your suggestions come to life. Or at least it seemed that way. So now we axe that and I'm back to giving homework and hoping people really like the assignment.

I'm expecting participation to be low. I'm cool with that. I've been a very small time streamer for years now and I've really come to appreciate what I have instead of lusting after what I don't and drowning in horrible artist envy. Young me did not possess that, and thus my many abandoned quests.

Anyway, I'm cool with low participation, but I dread zero participation. I think that's a super real possibility, and that possibility has kept me frozen for, like, the past two weeks. That's given me time to re-read Brom's stuff (found out yesterday about his new writing and absolutely fucked up my sleep schedule devouring it), but it's not doing much for my quest aspirations.

nah not really. sometimes prompts don't mesh well with suggesters or it's too unclear. never hurts to push forward but i'd give it more than 24hrs since engagement here is not what it used to be

Hello! This is the discussion thread for the quests in my 'CARACOSA' setting. Based on the name, you can probably infer the main inspiration behind it, but this is about as related to the source material as a painting is to paint.

I was very anxious about this quest, since I am a fan of Aldequest, and I don't want it to seem like I am trying to rip-off Capitulize. I have been working on this setting for several years now, and the original draft of the TTRPG would have been written just around the time Aldequest was published. Anyway, I don't want to detract from my work by comparing it to something better.

I might post peripheral work on this thread, so keep an eye out for that if you are interested.

Years GMing can make you very compartmentalised in that kind of thing i guess.

decided to make this post here since i extrapolated on discord. basically, what yee has dubbed the "the stamina system" is the now formal system of dimension 1-13LL and likely all related derivatives. why? because it is simple and i hate math.

while on its surface it is a very basic combat system:
- you have a specific amount of STAMINA points
- you lose a point every time you melee attack (whether you hit or miss)
- you lose a point every time you are hit
- you never lose points for other actions. running, climbing, dodging, etc. or attacking with a ranged weapon are free

it was created to account for an mc that can self-heal basically any wound, especially fatal wounds. how do you still present combat as dangerous in this case? well, realistically, what will really fuck you in a fight is your stamina. "hp", while in a way is a version of stamina, already has a very specific expectation when used in combat systems. i wanted to emphasize fights that feel like they have a sense of urgency with a challenge to it. you can't eat every hit you take bc you rely on that same pool to also hit back with. so, you have to fight "smarter" or creatively to end the encounter quickly. (this also has the addition of keeping the fight from dragging on too long btwn updates with enemies that aren't cannon fodder.)

fundamentally, the stamina system rewards targeting vital areas and eating big hits without the arbitration of throwing a high hp number everywhere and back. a plus for me, since i avoid having to "power-scale" every hit and knock more numbers into the audiences blearing eyes. and a plus for you, since you don't have to do a shit-ton of math and only need the common sense principle of protecting your vitals and looking for openings.

that's where fatal hits come in! a fatal wound is akin to crits w/ status effects if left untreated. normally, they would still kill normal people, but being dealt one does not mean the encounter fails. instead, they'll tend to cost two STAMINA points.

the principle of them follows thus: anyone can inflict a fatal hit at any time.

fatal hits are caused by the following:
- hitting a vital area
- hitting a target with something they're weak to
- inflicting a deadly spell

you will not die immediately from a fatal wound if your STAMINA is high enough. in fact, you can just eat that shit and keep fighting! it will be very painful, but that's just a part of the fun of it.

instead, let's say you were hit in the chest straight through the heart with a sword. you have about a couple of turns (usually translated in updates) of your STAMINA points being whittled down before your body will give out. this allows you time to heal yourself, get distance, beg for your life, or continue to die fighting. the "status effect" will not be spelled out in exact mechanical terms, and instead will be narrative, as points will continue to be reduced as it goes untreated.

The majority of your voices are heard loud and clearly. The relationship among the three of them will develop further as the story goes on. I also noticed the interest in the runner-up resneship between Abdle and Peary, I will have something for them as well. Now I would like to talk a little bit about Nasty. She was originally planned to be an ally, but by choosing to go into her dream, I started to play around with her liking Bobbie. The whole part where she came to Bobbie's bedroom and asked for sex was more of a joke, the whole consequences for going in her dream, and that is how I treated their relationship, like friends with benefits. Now that Victorio is also a factor in their relationship, I will see how their interaction will change. Will this be a more serious and unconventional relationship or a comedic act full of sex jokes? Time will only tell. Well, this was a fun interaction with you all for today's holiday. I hope you all are doing something that you love doing.

Lucy would have called the factory and, assuming suggestors would continue to be scrupulous about Rudger's treatment, would have asked for a tour of the 'farm' before sending him back there. We would have been introduced to Gustave a lot earlier so the pressure to castrate and dethumb Rudger would be higher, and Gustave would insist on seeing Rudger directly which would make the rabbit a lot more skittish.

All art unless specified otherwise is done by my wonderful friend, though he doesn't maintain a gallery.

To give him a bit of a break (he's quite busy), panels 9-1 and 9-2 were done by OneTiredBear (from the Drawfriends Discord) and Trashman (on both the Drawfriends and Questden Discord), respectively.

It is my first quest, so likely (in fact, I know) I'm making mistakes. If anything seems unintentionally off/overly confusing, or as if I've just left something important out, do let me know.

You can also ask about things here that Tio'd know, in case you'd like in-universe information that there's not a good place to insert into the main posts.

I like the art. It has a unique style. The characters are distinctive and expressive, and it's easy to tell what's happening in the images.
