Ever since the Funny Face thread ended, I've been thinking a lot how we can defend against or avoid whatever Cruelty of Death has in store for Bobbie considering he seems to be some kind of powerful demigod with a hatred for her. Someone like that could be very difficult to deal with when he decides to ruin our plans again like he did with killing Robert. Through the thread, I've been looking for any weaknesses through his actions, his attitude and personality, what he says, and thinking about how he has a plan he is preparing and what we can do to immediately to put any kind of dent into that plan.
One thing I notice is that he lets his emotions get the better of him. His power-trip made him too cocky and overconfident, and him losing his cool after Ratislav stood up to him made him reveal his hand a bit too early as he spilled some things he should have kept his mouth shut about.
- Cruelty needed to make sure that Ratislav was alive to tell Bobbie that he revived and had Kenku killed Robert so Bobbie doesn't get the wrong idea that Dredge was responsible for coming after Robert.
- He needs Illgotten to see Robert’s head on the wall so that it'll hurt a lot more, perhaps this death is what will lead Illgotten to seek revenge against the killer.
- One of his goals seem to be causing as much cruelty through death of others as possible to where he'd even offer his services to Ratislav, but got really upset when he was refused.
- Cruelty mentioned that he needed to stick to a plan, a plan so important that he needed a lot of willpower and Kenku's help to regain his composure to spare Ratislav, despite mentioning the fact Ratislav dying now would make it more cruel for Bobbie. If he is willing to keep Ratislav alive for a plan, I feel this plan will be much worse for Bobbie than if Ratislav was dead, like the deaths of a lot more lives that will hit Bobbie even harder.
thinking several moves ahead with these in mind, I want to tell Ratislav to lie to Bobbie and let her know it was one of Iron Dredge’s assassins who killed Robert or something instead of Cruelty of Death and Kenku to mess with his plan. The narrative could be that during his meeting with Robert, some kind of hooded assassin claiming to be one of Iron Dredge's followers invaded Robert's home. Ratislav managed to run away and hide during the attack, and when he checked back after thinking it was safe, he found Robert's head on the wall.
Mainly, I have a feeling if Bobbie and Abdle has knowledge of Cruelty of Death being the murderer, it is going to backfire on Bobbie at some point. I'm not sure what his plan might be, but if I had to guess, it could be that if Bobbie at some point tells Illgotten it was Cruelty of Death and not Iron Dredge, Illgotten's focus for revenge will be against Cruelty, and will put all his focus on getting back at him with his people when they should really be focusing on Iron Dredge, or he'll lose his nerve to fight as Cruelty is probably somebody he doesn't want to mess with, and will refuse to help Bobbie against Dredge. Cruelty also probably doesn't want Illgotten's thieves to go after Dredge.
And if we think further in the future, we might have to deal with someone like Max who can tell if someone is lying or not, and for some reason, we may have to tell him that Iron Dredge killed Robert and not Cruelty of Death for some reason. If Bobbie believes it was Dredge who killed Robert, it wouldn't register as a lie to Max.
Whatever the case, Cruelty of Death’s plan hinges on having Ratislav giving Bobbie that knowledge for whatever reason. I suggest to other suggestors to keep Robert’s true murderer cruelty of death a secret from Bobbie and Abdle. If anything does let Bobbie know it was cruelty of death, we can treat it is nothing more than a metaphor for a sudden death, much like the father at the end of funny faces thread treated it as to the kid. Mainly a figure of speech, like, "of course Cruelty of Death was there, the cruelty of death is always there whenever one murders another."
