A bullet to the head. The usual.

It scrambled up some parts that helped me out in the field. I can't aim well and my right hand doesn't do what I want it to do all the time. I was going to be droned, but Monica got me reassigned to tech instead. I've always been good at it. I rewired myself to be left-hand dominant.

I sometimes wish I'd been reassigned to some kind of fashion department instead.
Or that I could be allowed to wear anything except for a black trench coat every day.
There is a compartment near my stomach that I have hidden a fashion magazine in. It's six years out of date. I've read it over a thousand times cover to cover.
When I'm putting upgrades in agents I sometimes like to pretend I'm a high-powered designer, putting a piece together from nothing but chiffon and my imagination. Something slinky I could model myself that would match my eyes. Which wouldn't be orange.

This doesn't have much in common with stabbing a needle into a necrotic murder-arm but I can pretend.

Ah! Paperatzzi! Allow a being of extensive experience and no renoun explain these complex geo-dimensional matters that you likely no longer care about!

>Would you be willing to let disembodied ghosts possess your body for a while? What, if anything would you ask in return?

First off, it should be enunciated that the word ghost is extremely offensive. Claiming that a being, just because they no longer have their typical body, is somehow something different is like cutting off a persons legs and claiming that they are no longer human as a result. There's not much difference at all (heck a ghost is, no matter what they say and believe, STILL ALIVE, capable of sentient thought, obeying some of the laws of physics, interacting with objects, and existing in one dimension)

With this in mind, letting a ghost inhabit your body is a lot like giving a homeless man your car. Ludicrous! Who knows why that ghost is in that state? It could be diseased! What if it hasn't had its soul shots? What if it wants revenge? It certainly wouldn't return it any time soon given that it can exist for a very long time! And it has no stake in what happens either.

Anyway what could you expect from a ghost? It can't work, has middling intelligence, likely can't interact well with the world (if it could it wouldn't need to possess people.) IT DOESNT EVEN KNOW IF THERES AN AFTERLIFE!

In short, ghosts are vagrants and soul-hobos, and should not be trusted!

Aren't heroic spirits and noble phantasm just alternative words for ghosts? Don't those two phrases mean the same thing? What is it with ghosts?

Just a word of advice from one REAL transdimensional destiny devourer to...whatever gross thing you are, it never pays to associate oneself with a jungian archetype knockoff or class or astrological sign or birth elemental or tarotstone or whatever. These are narrative classifications social beings search for to better define themselves, to remove uncertainty of where you stand in the universe to create an easy predictable story for your life. Creatures are too complex to fit into neat little categories and all a person's search for such reveals is they're insecure about where they fit in the universe and are looking for Fate to tell them what to be.

I guess you could extrapolate that these standardized classifications are the ghosts of Fate that possess people. And remember what was said! Don't trust ghosts!

>Casper The Friendly Ghost

Oh exultation and fuck, is there actually a ghost called "The Friendly Ghost?"

That might be the shadiest pseudonym in EXISTANCE.

Consider for a moment, continuing the metaphor from before, you were to meet a vagrant called Friendly Pete. Do you extend to him your car?

YOU DO?

Well jokes on you that person is almost certainly a sex offender. And intangible incubui require an exorcist and at least a galactic level court followed by execution, not a hug.

Alternatively, let's assume that he's called that because he actually IS extroverted and that this is an unusual enough trait to merit a nickname. Getting past the fact that this would BY DEFINITION MEAN THAT MOST GHOSTS ARENT FRIENDLY PROVING THE POINT, what does this even mean?

Does that mean that as a ghost he's difficult to insult? Extremely serene and outgoing? Willing to help anyone without cost because he has nothing, being intangible? He never gets angry or hates certain attributes or is ever irrational?

What is he, THE MESSIAH?

What would being friends with an individual who demands nothing be like. That's not a healthy relationship, that's a relationship founded on the premise of their friendliness. That your nice to each other BECAUSE your nice to each other. That if mr ghost gives enough you'll stick around. You end up in the place we discussed before, following an idea for the expectations attributed to its role, rather then personal feelings. A ghost possessed by a ghost. A person who is kind to everyone craves attention, not unlike other specters who scare others. It creates dependent relationships.

Additionally what if he tries to help you in ways that you don't find helpful? Friendliness is subjective at best and he's from another culture. AND because he asks nothing in return, it doesn't matter if he screws up.

So no, fuck ALL ghosts.

(Casper, more like No-Face)

I disagree, classification is a useful tool as long as one doesn't take it too far. It can allow an individual to give context to their existence, if you view a classification as a measuring tool rather than as a template it can lead to a greater understanding of one's self. One would not try to understand one's sense of self without classification any more than one would try to understand an object's size without a unit of measurement. Alternatively, classification is a useful way for social creatures with an imperative for specialization to comprehend their role within their social group.

> Gender Ghost Pronouns
To be exactly expressive, fifth dimensional beings have a great deal of trouble with the nuances of sonic/spectrometry based communicationing, especially with identification terms. But ghosts don't have genetics,
(at least ghosts inthe classical sense of the term, being the state in a species in question, in which after total structure death, the mental/conscious state manages to persist)
and are not capable of gene exchange nor reproduction (again in the classical sense. Certain types of spirit can reproduce but these were typically not beings that originally posessed bodies.)
In irregard, any offense is due to dimensional ignorance, and not intended to be offensive to any form of soul based life, some of whose are excellent information gathers and/or fuel sources. (It should be noted however that referring to extra-dimensional beings in the singular sense is considered highly degrading as well, but well you don't see us complaining.).

Also don't trust ghosts.

Alternatively, classification is a useful way for social creatures with an imperative for specialization to comprehend their role within their social group.

Ah but here is the question. What is it that creates these classifications and what gives these forces the right to effectively shape, guide, DETERMINE ones role in the universe? The legitimacy of these role-creating forces is core here.

In your example, you bring up biological speciation as an example of positive self-guidance. In this there is agreement. Obliviators are no stranger to the delineation of roles to permit survival. No matter what beings in a species exist, they will prioritize survival emphasizing traits. Or should.

This can likewise be extended to measurement, language, mathematics (of which are of particular interest) and other such types of division.

however, it is the foundation of roles that there is a divide in everything. The crux of the argument therefore is what force defines the division you created, the point where one "takes it too far"?

One easy point is "the point where the assigning of roles no longer benefits survival." There we fray beyond our common agreement. At that point, what is gained by the assumption of roles?

The initial claim was that this assumption of a role provides a level of certainty, a feeling of fate and purpose, and your claim that it provides context for existence is effectively the same. The divide, then is that we view this this as a bad thing because it is an illusion, the universe being too exponential, people too complex for many of the roles they assign to themselves to be accurate. In effect, the roles they assigned were not accurate to the things they are in fact capable of. It provides false hope AND false limits. It closes the paradigm, because beings understanding of the universe is limited and therefore so is their understanding of their place in it.

In this case it is better to see oneself as anything, and create the context of their own existence (within the parameters of survival) then it is to attempt to further define ones own role at the risk of being destructive to their own being.

To put it simply.
There is a divide between the abstract and the physical, such as the barrier between us. Things cross this barrier to impact the other side. But these sides are not equal. The abstract requires the physical to exist. Ghosts need bodies to be created, and desire them again. When abstract ideas directly arise from physical acts, roles in this abstract realm are inherently helpful, for they apply to the physical. However, when the abstract attempts to create the physical, one by definition creates something not necessarily true in the physical.

While it is true that the abstract possesses the power to change the physical (such is an obliviators species-profession) such must be done by utilizing, understanding, MANIPULATING the physical as it appears, not as it is perceived.

One cannot let the abstract beliefs of what they are impact what they are capable of doing, because these beliefs are irrelevant and unreliable.

Wow bet no one will read that!
Simply,
In a word,
don't trust ghosts.

You've lost the bet, then. Relinquish my winnings at once. Also, you spoke of how dimensional creatures don't have free will and the delusion would be arrogant if it weren't also predetermined. But quantum physics has shown that causal determinism is false, as some events are random and not all events are caused. That's not really relevant, though, I'm more curious on what you think you are and what you're talking to. You exist as nothing except a collection of text and imagery created by a dimensional being for amusement, and to paraphrase, your own presumption would be insulting if it weren't determined by the quest author. What do you think of the subject?

>Memes
The passage of social protocols and ideas is exactly what we were just talking about actually, the application of titles, meanings, and expectations based on social values. As stated, ones that benefit survival are good, those that don't aren't. So memes can be either. Some taste delicious to break too.
>Money
Some species and dimensions, or societies within such utilize exchange units, but it's not something Obliviators, being a solitary species, often use. Altogether, money doesn't mean much in the physical sense as far as assigning Purpose or Place in the universe go, (try to see if your billionaire status can stop a truck) and is abstract in that sense. However, it also reflects how much other individuals value the changes you express on society and there is power there. So it sits on the line. Having units of exchange have typically increased the survivability of species though, except in dimensional exchange rate wars, so it gets a pass.

Oh!
Thats an exciting and very dangerous question.
Isn't talking about The Divide forbidden among your kind? It is on this side! Under penalty of universe evaporation! Not that it matters, given the fact that eating is a transdimensional crime for Obliviators so...

The nuances of causality are extensive and complicated, and so therefore are its rules since different dimensions have different laws of physics with only a few constants. Foundationally, Bell's Theorum is still legitimate, however it does not account for action at a distance and global hidden variables. Following the discovery of actual examples of Action-At-A-Distance and of entanglement in sub-quantum particles within many dimensions, the evidence towards determinism outweighed that towards quantum randomness.

The theories used to flip flop every time a new sub-sub-sub quantum component was found and behaved seemingly inexplicably, but after multiple times of these new discoveries finally being modeled into a predictable form(as per previously mentioned sentiments ignorance of their universe) combined with the crimes carried out by the Proto-Mathanein Cult of Orderly Chaos, random theory was insufficient AND taboo. The majority of universes therefore appear deterministic, with some exceptions such as Spaceless Dimensions (non-deterministic) and Dimensionally Quantum Flooded Manipulated Spaces (dimensions FORCED into deterministic (and "beneficial") behavior in an invasion by a deterministic dimension)

Also Obliviators eat energy by interfering with destiny, with the energy being generated FROM A FUTURE THAT NO LONGER EXISTS utilizing action at a distance so if destiny didn't exist, then randomness is insufficient to describe what is happening (also it would mean that Obliviators have been operating under a lie since the dawn of the apeiroverse)

As for question 2...as stated, Transdimensional Beings exist outside the realm of Causality, since they are exposed to multiple different causalities with different rules that impact their behavior and impact how they impact each other.

This combined with multiple conscious systems (allowing selective access to memoryand source of action), singular desire and lack of instinct(common for transdimensional species) as well as access to a few of the actually semi-random universes (a holy pilgrimage for our people) allows for the force called Free-Will, and the ability to spread this randomness to render the universe more random.

Therefore even if we WERE created by a single dimensional being (thanks for the tip by the way) we would still be non-deterministic after leaving that dimension following the natural Obliviators Biology and life experiences!
