In the tap water. They use it to regulate hormones and control the populace. Makes them more docile. More naive. Better sheep.

It was night time. Its day now. They'll open the door soon, and I'll be able to investigate.

Here, in Maverick Rehabilitation Center, they do much more than rehab. They keep government secrets here. The kind of secrets they can't keep anywhere else. And they hide them right here, where no one would believe you if you told them the truth.

Because who is going to believe the paranoid schizo? Nobody, that's who.

It is. It certainly is. But it can't be helped. You've already put a probe in my mind, agents. You talk to me whether I want you to or not. Government dogs or not, though, you're all I got, so you're gonna help me, got it?

I'm going to find the evidence. I'm going to find it, and I'll shove it in their faces. And they'll have to believe me, because I have evidence. And then I can get you people out of my head.

Come, agents! Its time to greet the dawn!

Ask for an immediate change of clothes when they open the door. You need something embarrassingly pink and frilly. They'll have to get the nearest thing, and on such short notice, they- er, we- won't be able to place nearly as many bugs in your clothing. This is good for you.

My hands are free. Free to take in all this miserable place has to offer. Besides me, there's 8 other people locked up here in the Medium Security Ward. Some of them should be here. Ashley and Allen especially.

Some of them having nothing wrong with them. Well, not in the crazy sense. Hailey, Tosh, and Mance. Those three shouldn't be here. They don't belong. We need to look into them.

Conspiracy theories. Why do you ask?

"The Girls" are Azil and Amelia. Fucking nutjobs cut off their hands and stitched each other together. They siamese twin'd each other. I don't even know.

Mance may look girly, but he's somehow a boy. He needs a hair cut. I mean, he carves the rest of himself up well enough.

Hailey is some sort of psychic. She mimics people. Its weird.

I assume they somehow rigged up their circulatories. Otherwise they'da just chopped them apart and been done with it. Fuck, I dunno. It hurts my hand thinking about it.

>Remind us, what secret of ours did you uncover?
Don't play with me! You're government agents, trying to uncover my secrets. Your people planted a probe in my brain years ago, and you've been talking to me ever since. FBI, CIA, I don't know who you are. But I do know that if I only uncover GOVERNMENT secrets, then you can't get anything out of it. So that is what I do.

Allen's got these fucked up internal chemicals or something. The end result is, he doesn't feel pain. He's got no sympathy for other people, no sense of self preservation. Terrifyingly well. She broke a bone imitating Tosh. His limbs bend in ways human people can't, and she did it anyway. Crazy fucker.

>Aww, he's cute for a scarred up sociopath.
He's not quite a sociopath. Sociopathy involves no emotion at all. He has emotions. He just doesn't understand pain, or what it really means. He hurts other people usually by mistake. He's much more a danger to himself.

>You said he can do magic? Is that normal at all?
Hell no it isn't. [GM aside: The setting is modern day America, on the East Coast. Maverick is in Maine. If it existed in 2005, it exists in this world.]

Raenef joins us at the breakfast table. This is all the boys in the Medium Security Ward. Except Tosh, but I am unsure if he is a boy. MiniSec already ate, MaxiSec eats after us.

There isn't much to say about him. He's got chronic amnesia. No long term memory. Can't remember anything more than three days ago. I am told memory problems do not normally work this way. His name, age, hometown, all unknown. He's just... Raenef. Or Rae for short.

He likes to read though. I'm not sure why he isn't in MiniSec. I mean, sure, he can't survive out in the real world. He musta done something stupid and got knocked down here temporarily. He probably already forgot what he did.

Rae might be worth a shot, if you can work quickly. Mance seems like he knows something, but he might need some more convincing. Actually, the ones that "don't belong" might be the best allies, if they're being held against their will. Does Hailey ever not mimic people?

Nothing too out of character. Just act like you occasionally hang out and he'll never call you on it.

Allen could be useful, like you said. He seems so happy all the time. I bet he'd be willing to do most of what we ask, provided it's not, like, blatantly retarded or something. I'da know.

Mance actually seems too normal, beyond being some kind of magician. I mean he looks skeptical. He's probably not reliable, for that. He might not do anything for us unless we have a very good reason for it.

We should talk to Azil and Amelia and Tosh at some point, to evaluate how useful they might be. Whenever they show up, anyway.

Yeah, but its not too common. I've never talked to her when she wasn't mimicking. I have no idea what she's like.

>Be more open to the idea of trusting, okay?
Right. Rae has made a good tool in the past, and could serve such again. Allen is a willing helper, certainly, but he also has a rather large mouth. I can't use him for anything that must remain secret.

And Mance... It'd be great if I could get his help. That's what I need. He knows things. Secret things. About this place. But the fucker is very tight lipped. We might have to be drastic with him to get him to let anything spill. I have suspicions that Maverick is blackmailing him into their services, but no proof. I need proof.

Tosh has arrived. Rae and Mance are leaving. Probably to the library. MediSec only has access to the Library and the Lounge, and our cells. Not a lot to do around here.

>Listen to your stomach. You're probably pretty hungry, yeah?
Breakfast is sounding pretty good today. Mom leaves breakfast out in front of my room, on this cart. Should I have chocolate or vanilla this morning? Neither is very good...

>Well, toss us some exposition, while you're up.
Well let's see. My body doesn't work, I don't look like anyone else, I'm a freak who needs to be kept away from others, and there's never anything to do around here. I think that brings us up to speed.

Yes, my little brother is uglier than I am. that thought doesn't make me as happy as it should, because HE gets to go out and play, but I have to stay here. Stupid... Ugh.

>The problem here is that you need to find, purchase, or construct amazingly cool shades for your four-eyed face.
I only have three eyes. And I do have a goggles and headband combo for them, for when I go outside. Which is not as often as I would like.

Mom says the internet is a terrible place and I can't go there until I'm a teenager, she says.

These monitor show me eeeeeverything in the facility. The three on the right show the outside, the three on the second from the right show the recreation areas, the three on the second from the left show the wards, and the bottom left one shows the main lobby. The top left two cameras can be cycled through to any of the patient rooms I want, except 306 because that camera is always dead. There is also a second set of lounge cameras I can work with.

I can pan or zoom these cameras to a rather large extent, and have gotten pretty good at the controls. I can see whatever I want to in this place. I just can't... go there. Sigh.

>Tell us about and what you think of captain D.
Captain D is weird. But he's funny weird. And he's strong, and smart. I like him. He's my only friend in this place. Besides maybe my brother, when he visits me.

>Why, per se, do you need to be kept away from others? And what's the cane for? Bum leg?
Because Mom's afraid I'll get sick and die. I have a weak inmune system, so I need to be careful, she says. And yeah, my left foot is shaped wrong. It doesn't look like my right foot.

>So, Llena, do we have anyone we particularly like to watch?
Not really. They all do interesting things occasionally. 105 is really boring though. 306 too, but she hides from the cameras, so I don't see her anyway. I wish I knew their names.

Fighting, mostly. Trying to escape. Patients being in the wrong wards. Rules breaking stuff.

I don't know. Its been a long time.

It looks like the new girl is here, unless that's some other armored car shipment up front. My brother is talking with some patients in the library lounge. I could probably report 201 for sitting on the library counter, but its not like we even have a librarian anyway. It looks like MaxiSec is eating breakfast now - they never it together. 105 is being boring. The Rose twins are running around MiniSec.

It looks like just another boring day.

Oh yes, I can definitely do that. Each of the cameras is next to a PA speaker, so I can speak to any room I want to. In addition, there are four global settings: All, 1F, 2F, and 3F. First floor has the lobby, the lounge, and MiniSec. Second floor has MediSec and the cafeteria. Third floor has MaxiSec, Miss Brummond's office, and the Library.

I'm in the basement, hidden away with Mom. There's only one camera down here, and its in the science room.

The resolution on the cameras isn't good enough for that. I can barely make out who is talking, let alone their exact lip movements. But, I'll keep it in mind.

>Tell Allen he did good.
"...You did good Allen."

"Yay!"

>... I... I don't really know what to do, since we don't seem to have a goal
Well... a goal, huh? I suppose I want to go outside. Yeah. That'd be pretty cool.

I also want to eat something besides those nutrition shakes Mom makes, but she says I can't because there is something wrong with my digestive system, so it'd be best if I didn't do that but I still want to try.

How do you think I should go about getting myself some freedom? What sorts of tasks should I have Allen do?

Well, what's keeping you in? Is the door locked? Do you know where it leads out to, or where any keys or such for it are?

>Well, what's keeping you in? Is the door locked? Do you know where it leads out to, or where any keys or such for it are?
Well... kind of. There is an elevator, but it is password coded. Mom knows the password, and so does Captain D, but I don't. Ta'Ch'Ch might.

There isn't much down here, in the lab. There's my room, and this room, and a hallway, and Mom's room, and the lab, and the elevator, and the storage room. In the back of the storage room is the emergency exit, but the door is locked and I can't get through. Mom has the key.

It occurs to me that if your mom managed to genetically engineer you and your brother, she should have the ability to perform gene therapy.

So the question is...why hasn't she? Gene Therapy could cure a lot of your ailments. Then there's cybernetics and all that nice stuff.

TL;DR, there's no reason why you should be cooped up like a prisoner when there are viable alternatives to improving your life.

So then. Our best bet would be figuring out the password. Is there any way to get camera onto the elevator? They aren't wireless or anything, right?

Well, onto other things, what's in the lab down here? What is it for? There some secret research and development being done in this place? Is there anything interesting in the storage room?

...wow I ask a lot of questions.

Hmm. The other option is getting the emergency exit open somehow. It's not a very good emergency exit if it needs to be manually locked, is it? Either way, we need to figure out a way to use Allen towards our goals.

What's Allen in for, anyway? Maybe we can help him out while he helps us. He seems friendly enough. ... crazy scars notwithstanding.

>So then. Our best bet would be figuring out the password. Is there any way to get camera onto the elevator? They aren't wireless or anything, right?
Yeah, there's an elevator camera. The elevator is pretty rarely used, though, since it only goes between MaxiSec and here.

>Well, onto other things, what's in the lab down here? What is it for? There some secret research and development being done in this place? Is there anything interesting in the storage room?
Umm... Mom works down here. I don't know too much about it. Most of the lab stuff is for taking care of me.

>What's Allen in for, anyway? Maybe we can help him out while he helps us.
Uhh... 108 is in for self inflicted bodily trauma and accidental homicide.

>It's not a very good emergency exit if it needs to be manually locked, is it?
Its locked so people can't get in. I can go out of it no problem, but Mom would kill me if she found me outside. And going out the emergency exit means I can't get back in. I'd need Mom's key.

And if I prop it open too long an alarm goes off. I've tried. Mom was really mad at me.

Hmm.

I would suggest asking Allen to look around the place. Who knows? He might find something out if he stars looking around the facility?

Tell Allen we're still here. We don't have anywhere to go, so we'll always be right here to speak with him.
Except when it's time to sleep. Because that's when you sleep. Um.
.....
Actually, Allen's not too bright. He's really nice, but he seems pretty ditzy.
We're sure he means well.

Something subtle like figuring out the passcode might be beyond him. He's not exactly Direct PC material. ... Why don't we have him act as a helper, instead?

Ask Allen to get involved with the other inmates. Help them do things. Like how #108 wants to explore. Or if, say, anyone else wants to learn more about the facility. Whatever it is they want to do, help them do it.
The only rules he needs to follow are...
1) Try very very hard not to hurt anyone, and
2) Do not tell anyone why you are doing this.

And then, periodically, come back here and tell us what's going on (even though we can mostly see it), and if necessary we'll give further instructions.
Eventually, someone will either make it to us, or stir things up enough so that we can walk outside by ourselves for.
Or, at the very least, it'll be way more interesting than anything else we've been doing. Right?

Let the Gambit begin!

"Yes, I'm not here right now."

Allen pauses a moment. "...What?"

>I would suggest asking Allen to look around the place. Who knows? He might find something out if he stars looking around the facility?
This is a good idea. "Keep looking around, I'll be in touch."

"Oh. Okay! What should I look for?"

"Um..."
>Have him act as a helper. Eventually, someone will either make it to us, or stir things up enough so that we can walk outside by ourselves.
Oh! That sounds good!

"Go look for people to help out. Just be nice, help people with anything they need. Especially if they're trying to learn more about this place."

"Oh! I can do that! I can do that!"

"Good! But I have two rules you need to follow. These are very important. Rule 1: Try very hard not to hurt anyone."

"I always do that!"

"Try harder. And rule 2: Don't tell anyone about me, or why you're doing this."

"You sure? Why not?"

"Because if anyone knows about me I'll get in biiiiig trouble. So keep it a secret. Just look around, have fun, be helpful. And come back and tell me about what you learn. Okay?"

"Yes! I can do that!"

And then Allen runs off, to be helpful, hopefully.

I can do this. I feel like... like I have hope.
