Ivar is silent for a moment, making no sign of moving.

Find a sprawling table where you may assemble findings, with chalkboards and such to draw on.

, Mudy immediatly asks.
>"What's known about his origins? I didn't know he was immortal... Though that is somewhat obvious in hindsight."

Ivar nods.
>"Many stories are told of who or what ze Skullking is, and how he came to be."
, he begins.
>"Some say he was a man driven mad by his lust for power and was zen possessed by a devil, ozers a man who got carried away with protecting the ones he loved... But most say he is completely ze product of his own demented mind. Swallowed by ze evil zat lurks wizin all of us when he no longer attempted to control it.
>Such a force far greater zen any of ze devils below or ze ancient gods beyond ze stars: Ze pure Element of Evil."
He pauses.
>"Zat is what the Skullking embodies."

As they talk Rune leads them to a quiet table in the back of the huge library, away from listening ears. He pulls a map from one of the shelves nearby, which he and Ivar spread across the table.
Mudy stands on the chair to get a good look.

Mudy runs his hands along the map, memorizing the layout.
>"What would be the saf...LEAST DANGEROUS way to approach the Claw of the Skullking?"
, he asks.
Rune points to the land near the Claw of the Skullking.
>"Whichever way we travel, we will always have to cross zrough ze Infected Wastes, or brave ze rapids leading to ze Edge of ze World. Zer will be enough challenges to make each course equally deadly."

Mudy takes a moment to contemplate. His eyes fall on the desert.
>"With his alliance with the dark elves, the enemy must have had little trouble crossing the desert."
, he states.
>"If we can sway them to our side, he'd lose that passage, leaving only the sea. What sort of fleet does he command?"

Rune points to the Isles of Men and lets his finger run around the edge of the Kraken Sea.

If we can get the humans as allies and help them get rid of the pirates we'd be able to get anywhere by ship, i'd say we head there first.

After that getting an alliance with the dwarves would probably be easier than with the dark elves.

Unless we try to lead an army of dwarves through the infected wastes, I don't see what the point in befriending the dwarves is. It's not like they won't defend themselves if the skull king marches an army through their country.

No, the Dark Elves are the key here. He can march troops right into Moonshine thanks to them. The Elves should use their fancypants rangering skills to guard the Forest of Dread while we head to the Dark Elves and try to sway them to our cause.

PS: Where do goblins and kobolds live? And where is there some small conquered country we can claim is ours?

Also, make it a point to ask more about Ivar and Rune's background. (wall of text, you asked for it)

Mudy showers his servant with more questions.
>"Tell me, what is the skullking's influence in each area? Are the human isles free or subjugated? In what way does he control the Dark Elves? Are they willing servants, or are they being manipulated? What of the dwarves in the mountains? Does the skullking's influence reach that far?"

Rune takes a moment to take it all in. He at the map in utmost concentration before answering.
>"As sad as I am to admit it, us humans are far too chaotic und unorganized to form a single nation, but with zat curse comes ze blessing zat ze Skullking cannot control us all at once. Ze isles and seas are plagued with wars, naval battles und political intrigue, leaving ze Skullking only ze most oppertunistic pirates to handle.
>Ze last news I heard about ze Dark Elves was zat ze Queen Empress Darkmoon "Nightengale" Arrow had disappeared und her children's council ruling in her place offered ze alliance to prevent zeir destruction. But, we must not forget zat ze Dark Elves are inherently evil, und may simply be trying to profit from ze conflict.
>Ze Dwarves are steadfast in zeir opposition of ze Skullking, but ze Skullking has driven them far up zeir mountain fortressess. Before you arrived ze Skullking was planning to overtake ze High Elves first, so ze Dwarves would be surrounded."

It's obvious Rune is tired out from all the explaining, and he takes a moment to breathe

Mudy stares at the map as he considers what he has just been told.
He taps the Infected Wastes twice and asks if there are any countries in it.
Rune shakes his head solemnly.
>"Ancient tales speak of marvelous kingdoms und citadels along ze Edge of ze World, with views of ze world behind zem und ze endless stars in front of zem. But zen.. it all turned to dust. Noone knows why. Ze Skullking now inhabits zeir ruins."

A silence follows. There's just something about the confidence in Rune's and Ivar's explanation that is tragic.

Mudy pulls and pushes the other boxes but finds no way of opening them. The large ring on each of them is attached just below the lid, making them absolutely useless.
There are no other buttons either.

He keeps his ears peeled for the voices behind the door.
>"I KNOW YOU KNOW WHERE HE IS. DON'T PLAY WITH ME."
>"MAYBE YOU WOULD HAVE FOUND HIM ALREADY IF YOU DIDNT KEEP WASTING YOUR TIME SAYING THA-- UGH!"
It sounds like the fight is rather onesided.

Mudy forces his eyes open to see if everyone is decent - they are. However, no effort seems to rouse them from their comatose slumber.
Getting on the road early today is not going to be possible.
He orders some water to refresh himself with.

A maid quickly brings it over.
>"Good morning,"
, she says cheerfully,
>"I hope our common room was to thine liking. Thou may pay for thine stay and the Moonshine Brew when thou art feeling more awake."

Mudy raises his mug.
To adventure!

Okay, so it seems like one of two things is the case:

1: We are the weak sibling Raitel feels bad about losing, and somehow in exchange for our memory we seem to reincarnate in a teleportation box that also seems to travel through time (Raitel was wearing her old clothes, and the events we observed matched up with what we have gleaned about this weak sibling we have heard of). The boxes seem to have a failsafe so that if killed near a box, we get put back in our old body, should it be salvagable (not something to rely on if this is the case).

2: Booze made for wierd-ass dreams.

That said, I really think we should get the elves (yes, both of them) to start teaching us swordplay and elven agility. We will probably never get stronger, but we are small, and dammit we should learn to be quick. Mudy is still somewhat a rogue, after all, and he should get quick feet and a quick blade to match his quick wit (yes I know a bad line, still true).
>>
No. 6306 ID: 1c53e8

>>6305
And just to clarify, when I talk about learning elven agility, I mean about how to be an evasive, speed-based fighter who tries to dodge attacks rather than block them, not about somehow absorbing elven racial traits.

....although that would be cool too in a weird way.
>>
No. 6308 ID: 95484a

>>6305
Okay, no. Unless the ale killed us and/or sent us back in time (and then the box sent us back?), I think that was just a pretty standard dream/flashback sequence, to.. probably just before we lost our memory.

Still, the boxes are weird. Not just that ours had a music-based teleporter, but that there's so many of them.

Whatever the reason, though, a little extra agility sure couldn't hurt.
