It's been a day since you received Silva's letter.
It seemed to be in some kind of code but Styx was able to translate. It basically reads.

>I'm sorry for what I did. I am wounded. Please help me. I am at Torral.

Rose and Styx say it's best to just ignore her. To let her die in Torral.

Actually, I have an idea. Is there any way to turn a human into a slime person? We already have a archer, but not a slime. Besides, I think it would work very well in a few ways. He'd be a slime himself so it would be ironic, he can't well harm other slimes if he's one of them, and he can't really return since he'd likely be killed by his 'friends' for being a slime.

...besides, the slime kid needs a playmate... he's just too cute to be on his own.

Guys, we really do not want to bring him back to our base unless we're planning to treat him in the same manner that we're treating all the rest of our minions. It will be an active drain on the morale of some of our people to see that we're keeping someone around and openly abusing them- far more of a hit than it would be a bonus for those who would like having someone to push around.

Just offer him one opportunity to swear to willingly serve us in all things, and if he refuses kill him. We don't need a morale case and disposing of him in any particularly fancy fashion is just a waste of time or being cruel and usual, which our minions will disapprove of.
>>
No. 358020 ID: a2fa74

>>358019
No, it's penance for being a completely remorseless murderer.
The slimes were treated far worse when they were slaves of humans, and he killed them because they're not slaves anymore.
He gets butler duty so he gets a taste of what his victims had gone through.

Completely aside from that? What kind of overlord refuses to throw people in prison?
>>
No. 358022 ID: 3fd4fb

>>358020
Firstly, it is ridiculously hypocritical of us to think that we can force anyone else to do penance of any sort with even a scrap of justification. With our history we cannot take the moral high ground here, amnesia or not.

Secondly, we are explicitly trying to avoid the kind of situation where we have enslaved people who hate us lying around. It doesn't really matter whether we call them minions, prisoners, or slaves; they're still people who detest us and are living in our base. I don't want that. Our base should be an exclusively pro-us environment.

And my answer to your question would be "the kind who would rather execute them than deal with the trouble of managing prisoners".
>>
No. 358023 ID: b1f0e2

while I would disagree about having responsibility for our previous incarnation. The point that keeping someone as a mistreated slave is both a potential morale damaging thing, and a risk to our security.

So either we perma execute him or we don't abuse him.
>>
No. 358025 ID: d4155c

Hmmm, butler duty is nice, but it won't be helpful to have a butler with 0 loyalty. Making him a slime person can at least solve a few problems.

For starters, it's a punishment that fits the crime. We've done that to several of our members, but considering that Leon's actions were pretty bad, a suitable punishment should be done. The slime king wants justice? This is pretty good justice. He's down one murdering hero and up one slime person. Sure he'd be with us, but the story would spook heroes. After all, would they really want to fight slimes if they might be turned into slimes as punishment?

Also, Broww is a title right? So he may have some pull. If he's a human, he could use that pull against us if his buddies find them, but would he be able to if he's some cute little slime person? His friends would be his enemies.

Plus this may make him a unique unit and perhaps make him a her... or at least gender neutral.

>>358023
Being a butler is not abusive. We we aren't inflicting any horrors on him, it's just a bit demeaning.

If he misbehaves we punish him, but that is completely normal.

Now, compare this to infecting him with the plague, which will rub our good-aligned members the wrong way. Most notably Alice and Kass. We can't afford that.
>>
No. 358051 ID: d4155c

Well, he might, he might not. He may go after slimes in rage, but if he was doing it out of superiority as a man triumphing over simple slimes, then wouldn't that strip him of his pride? Besides, some times the best way to learn to respect someone is to walk a mile in their shoes... slime trails would also suffice if they have no feet.

Besides, we should give the elder some closure. Just making him a butler might not fulfill the request and I don't want to off the guy. ...We could make him a slime person butler though if that suits everyone's taste.
>>

>Being a butler is not abusive. We we aren't inflicting any horrors on him, it's just a bit demeaning.
Which is why I suggested butler. Not a "sexually molested slave", not a "abused regularly prisoner", nor a "forced into transformation into a new species servant". Also, while being turned into a slime is hilariously ironic, it does not stop him from killing slimes. It only makes him more likely to want to kill them and more likely to get away with it. Plus who knows how much it costs.

He would be no less disloyal then others we enslaved. And talking of his crime is highly hypocritical.

He might still be disloyal if we don't work on that... And keen on spying on us for our enemies. Unless we work up his loyalty... Which, in consideration, we have done before with all our other enslaved followers. We could just keep him unarmed and not allowed into restricted areas until he is loyal.

>And talking of his crime is highly hypocritical.
Sylva, the old Overlord, and the mysterious third party member destroyed the town because it oppressed and enslaved the slimes and adamantly refused to stop when the old Overlord demanded they let the slimes go.

There is nothing hypocritical about being protective of a group you've helped in the past, and so far we've basically kept our violence restricted to people who are out looking for fights so there isn't the genocide/random murder angle at work here.
>>

Considering all the different methods of punishment, I have to go with just killing him.
Permanent death was possible if killed in the demon world, right?
>>
No. 358061 ID: 40cb26

It might be a bit much to actually infect him with the plague, but saying it will freak him the fuck out. Which is fun.

The slimification thing, if it's possible at all, may be more or less as terrible. If he keeps his personality and gets a new body that isn't too bad. If it basically consumes him and replaces him with a new slime creature that's the same as killing him, but creepier.

What would be ironic is if he became the slimes protector in some way. I'm not sure how to do that, though. We'll probably end up just keeping him around for now.
>>
No. 358064 ID: f70e5e

You call the Elder Slime over. He looks into the treasury.

>"Alalia!!!"

A short demon pops out of the chest.

>"Whaaaaat?"

>"WHAT DID YOU DO!?"

>"Oooh. I was uh.. Cleaning up a bit."

>"Where is the gold!?"

>"I ate it."

>"You WHAT!?"

>"I ate the gold. You know that stuff never rusts. I figured it'd be better to eat it then to let it just lay around and take up space."

You hear the Elder shake in rage. You decide to step in.

"Excuse me, what manner of creature is this?"

>"She is a Mimic. A demon that lives off of treasure. I'd kept her here for a while to protect her so long as she didn't eat EVERYTHING"

She rolls her eyes.

>"You were just going to give it all away anyway. Better use for it in my opinion."

>"I'm regretting my decision.. She's yours."

>"What?"

"What?"

>"I'm afraid I can not pay you back so she is your prize. She's actually quite useful."

Alalia ducks back into her chest.

Ugh that just figures. Not that I mind having a mimic, and while losing money we never got isn't technically a loss there is still the matter of not having enough money to build the barracks that would hold our new recruits.

Tell the elder slime of this specific quandary and that we have immediate need of monetary wealth. Ask if he has something, or a number of somethings, of rareness and value to sell off to humans.

She totally has the entire pile of gold in storage. Greedy mimic!

Question is, do we keep this fact to ourselves and steal the Elder Slime's entire hoard via the mimic, or force her to spit it back up and take only a reasonable amount?

We might be able to get an alliance with the Elder Slime, though that wouldn't really do us much good considering he needed our help to fight off just one group of adventurers.

Sell one, keep the other for the plan. No shoes unless they're really cheap. Emily can't wear them and she's our main melee. Well, beastgirl could.

*get whole bunch of money, Fabio has awesome stuff.* I think we know who's the true mastermind here.

Well.. let's see what the shoes cost. We can at least afford the barracks easily now.

Also, pic up some cheap glass or copper jewelry or something. Nice stuff made out of a cheap material, please.

Ask for a discount on the next thing you guy instead of more money straight up.

Ugh, I'm tired of this. Bring the mimic in here. She has greed above all else, so lets take advantage of that.

"I'm sorry if I bothered you earlier. Look, here's the thing. I was all looking forward to fixing my castle up, and now even with these two I'm well over a thousand short. I am assuming what you ate is gone forever. I'm alright with that, really. But I also see you wear more gold. If you're willing to part with enough to cover the 1800 for my total expenses, I'm willing to set aside a quarter of the gold I earn until you are paid back double. And after that I'll give you 1/10 of whatever I earn. If you want it in the form of replacements for your items or other jewelry or valuables instead of coin you're likely to get an even a better deal. How about it?"

Oh and buy those shoes, if we can.

"G650 for both? Fabio, you're a great friend, but that's really not fair. Give me G850 and you'll still net a tidy profit. As for the shoes, always interested. But how much faster, and how much are you charging?"

>"The shoes are only G50 and let a unit move an additional space, 2 if running. As for the G850.... How about G800?"

You look at Alalia to see if you can get anymore from her but the chest is locked shut

You figure you can probably get a good amount of scrap stuff really cheap.

800 and he throws in the shoes. Buy a barracks and some jingly junk.
>>

800? That's pretty close to our goal.

Those shoes are pretty damn good. Move speed is a major advantage, believe me. Buy them!

This.

Fabio already moved up quite a bit from his original offer, so we shouldn't push it.

G800 and throws in the shoes sounds good for me; if he won't move, then I guess we can buy them but that's annoying.

Buy a Barracks when we're done, and figure out what exactly our other remaining fortress restorations would entail.

Seconding this. We should say we agree to the 800 and will also buy the shoes.

800, we buy the shoes, we fix up the barracks, and power ourselves up. Nice and easy.

Besides, he's been nothing but bro to us. We should be bro back.

Bah, stubborn mimic. Lets ask Fabio about loans... next time. We don't want to squeeze him harder than we already are. 800G, 750G after the shoes.

You decide to just leave it as it is. You take the 800 and buy the shoes along with some copper junk. He throws in the junk 'on the house' leaving you with G905.

You teleport back to your castle and pay Styx the G300 needed to repair the barracks.

>"Excellent.. This will be done within the week. I'll make some additional space for out newest recruits in the meantime."

"Sounds good. What is next after this Styx?"

>"Well my Lord most repairs so far have been for comfort or cosmetic reasons. The only main defense we can build right now with our meager gold supply is the floatation ring."

"What purpose did that serve?"

>"It simply prevented land bound heroes from reaching us easily."

There is a loud knocking sound at the front doors.

>???: "Overlord, we know you're in there! Open up!"

>Styx: "Like that."

Have Kass answer the door. A good-aligned cleric would throw them off.

This is in the demon realm. Humans will not respawn. It is, in fact, safe to use Nyx. Also, Rose need not worry about death for now. Get Megan out here too. Ruby and Alice should hang out behind pillars, but be ready to flee.

Well, we don't want to greet them with a plague-spreader, but having Kass open the door means putting our healer in stabbing range of potential hostiles.
