"Ah, yeah. About that. Master Rastin's body was found last night. He has been presumed dead. Right now this is still top secret, but people will know soon enough. He left a lot of plans for naming his successor. Plans involving you. I have been instructed to tell you as little as possible. Only what you need to know."

>...A heart? Really? Well... whatever. Fine.

Ah, I see. Don't worry about Rastin; we know enough about his plans to know that reports of his death are greatly exaggerated.

Well, turn us over to Coralina and we'll get to work.

...Yes. Later today, you will be presented with a list of people. You're going to pick one of them. That is all I can tell you right now. You will understand more as we get to it.

>What did you do with the rest of us?
Huh? You're still the same size. I just inset you into this golden heart.

Anyway, see you when the time comes for picking who we goes with next. Say, are you one of those?

LeVerne sets you on a table. There are several people here, some which you recognize, many you do not. You recognize Coralina, Naveen, and Vox, the Elf from the Sorcerer's Guild. In spite of being guild leaders, you do not see Remi Leda or Dr. Burton here.

"Ahem." LeVerne clears his throat, and what little talking there was quiets down. "Master Rastin will not be in attendance this evening. I will be conducting the meeting in his place."

>Coralina Madison, Vresch's Summoner. The one who discovered the Orb of Infinite Psyche, as well as the one who nearly ended the world. She is doing her best to atone for this mistake, but is not sure where to start. She's helped the orb to discover how Neotis works, and Vresch is setting her up to be the leader of the city. She is a highly capable Conjurer, the best the Sorcerer's Guild has yet seen. She is not pictured here.

Dr. Simic speaks up. "He called us all out here with barely a day's notice, and can not even bother to show up to his own meeting?" He sounds bitter. "Ladies and gentlemen, our magnificent leader."

"Something important came up." LeVerne replies. "In fact, that is the subject of today's meeting."

>Dr. Ivanis Simic, head of the Transcendants, a guild dedicated to medical, chemical, and biological science. Known for being very good at what they do, but have a seedy reputation. Dr. Simic himself is especially mysterious, as the reclusive man rarely leaves the guild hall.

"Recently, there have been reports of a male angel destroying police bots with reckless abandon. We have code named this individual "Valkyrie," and we want everyone to do what they can to stop him at all costs." LeVerne continues, displaying a picture of 'Valkyrie'. "This artistic interpretation, provided by FurReality and based on eye witness accounts, is all we have been able to get of him. He is very tall, very strong, and wears his hair in a long ponytail. He carries an enchanted, customized shotgun and a rocket launcher of unknown origin. Maximum force is recommended."

>Naveen, leader of FurReality. In spite of the group's name, it seems to be a media-based group of artists and directors. They are primarily responsible for the recording and distribution of Neotis' television and radio shows, movies, music albums, and books. Naveen herself is one of the Seven Sammich Sinners, and embodies Lust. She is not pictured here.

"Wait wait, hold up. We got called here so you'd tell us about some random dude with a shotgun who likes shooting up robots? He hasn't, like, attacked civilians or anything, has he? I don't see much problem otherwise." asks Mitch Erane. "They're just robots, right? You can just build more or something, right? This ain't a big deal."

>Mitch Erane, head of the Experientialists. Potentially the largest non-religious guild in Neotis, it consists primarily of kids, thrill seekers, and society's outcasts. A very informal group, it is almost completely off the books, and very unpredictable. Mitch himself is very outspoken, charismatic, and proactive, but not very bright. He prefers to leave the planning to others.

"I think the problem here is that this means there's less law enforcement protecting our citizens right now." answers Ragas Melin. "We should be on the lookout for other insurgents trying to take advantage of the chaos, and quell any such uprisings within our own guilds. Rastin is asking us to play nicely until he can sweep another new problem under the rug. Am I wrong?" He asks LeVerne, a bit smugly.

"...That is correct, Mr. Melin." LeVerne answers after a moment. "We would appreciate it if the guilds took this opportunity to keep their followers in line, and be on the lookout for crime."

>Ragas Melin, high priest of the Church of Life. The single largest guild in the city, a massive number of converts have subscribed to their doctrines. The Church offers immortality to its followers if they prove themselves pious enough. Ragas himself claims to be 1700 years old, and his supposed immortality has helped cement the religion's popularity.

"Question." Comes the nearly emotionless voice belonging to Lisa Iwakura. "Do you think my guild could have some say in the production of the replacement police bots? We've had some design ideas to replace the current models. They're far too heavily armed for mere law enforcement."

"I'm sorry, Miss Iwakura, but the construction of the police force is to remain an entirely governmental project. I regret to remind you that we are still not accepting private aid at this time." LeVerne answers.

"Of course you aren't." comes the tired reply.

>Lisa Iwakura, head engineer of the Technotics guild. Nicknamed "Giraffe" for her neck; hates the nickname. The guild is heavily dedicated to the advancement of electrical technology - engineering, computing, robotics, and architecture. Most of the machines used in Neotis today are of their design. Strong rivalry with the Sorcerer's Guild, but otherwise not very politically oriented. Lisa herself is known for having very outlandish engineering ideas that rarely work, but the ones that do have caused revolutionary advances.

From the seat next to her, Michael Portman speaks up. "You want my boys to help hunt him down? We have enough firepower to conduct a full time war, we can take care of a single vigilante without issue. The NWA doesn't tolerate terrorism."

"And do what? Kill him?" Mitch asks, a bit concerned.

"If necessary. He is using lethal force, and my men have a right to defend themselves." Portman replies, not really paying attention.

"Master Rastin has instructed that should he be located, he is to be stopped by any means necessary." LeVerne affirms. Portman takes this as consolation.

"I'll let them know."

>Michael Portman, head of the Neotis Weaponry Association. Very militaristic and gung-ho about problems, they have been a very proactive guild, coordinating all sorts of projects to defend the people. However, some of their efforts have been morally questionable, and they have been mildly unpopular lately. They are under the same kind of scrutiny as the Sorcerer's Guild, and for similar reasons. Portman himself is considered very over-cautious, and supposedly always has 2 back up plans at all times.

"So, was that it? You just wanted to tell us about this Valkyrie so we'd be on guard? That's rather weak. I've known about... him, for a few days already. It's old news." Seras Nightsun says disapprovingly. "There must be more to it. This could have been said in an email. What aren't you telling us?"

>Seras Nightsun, founder of the Bleeding Hearts. She strongly believes that as long as people knew what was wrong with the world, they will do something about it. Seras got her own radio station, then walked the streets and broadcast what she saw. Based upon this ideal, she has gathered a small following of reporters all seeking to find the truth. Has many enemies among the other guilds, but is widely respected by the common people of Neotis.

LeVerne answers. "Very perceptive, Ms. Nightsun. This is indeed not the only thing we're discussing today, nor is it the most important. It simply ties well into the main topic today: Rastin has been murdered. Evidence places the Valkyrie as the prime suspect."

"For real...?" "I don't believe you." "That's impossible."

"We found the body. There will be an open casket funeral on Monday, three days from now." LeVerne continues, ignoring the sudden outbreak of chatter.

"...Oh." "He's actually dead...?" "This is really serious..." "Well fuck." "Okay...? Now what? Do we vote or something?"

LeVerne clears his throat. "AHEM. Hmm. Hrhmm. May I continue?" He waits a moment, and silence returns. "Master Rastin has left a will. In it, it determines how the new heir will be decided. There will be a simple contest to determine which amongst you will control the city of Neotis. This contest will last until the end of the month, at which point we will have a new supreme dictator of Neotis. Any questions before I read the rules of the contest?"

>LeVerne is the right hand man of Rastin, now deceased. His first name is unknown - in fact, very little about LeVerne is known at all. All that is known is that he has been with Rastin since before Neotis was established, and that he is a dedicated companion of the insane tyrant. He likely knows much more than he lets on.

"Ah, er, um, y-yes..." comes the meek voice of Dr. Cornelius Vox. "I was, er, um, wondering how, he, er, you see, I'm a bit-"

Terra Kisaki interupts him. "Oh just spit it out already! You need to stop stuttering, you incompetant oaf."

"S-sorry, I just wanted to know, um, how he, er-"

"I don't care what you wanted to know. LeVerne! Just get on with it already!" Terra says, silencing Dr. Vox for the time being. "B-but I-" "Shush."

>Archmagus Terra Kisaki, leader of the Sorcerer's Guild. Most gifted mage the guild has ever seen, but is very selfish, and always angry. Widely considered too immature for her position, she rules the guild with an iron fist. As an Archmage, she has at least a basic understanding of every variety of magic, and excels at Evocation in particular.

"...Very well then." LeVerne continues. He holds up the Pendant. "The key to becoming the new leader of Neotis is this pendant. Whoever brings it back here after the end of this month will get the job. So, the first person in this room with the pendant after 15 days have passed will be the new dictator for life of Neotis."

>Dr. Cornelius Vox, Dean of Magical Education for the Sorcerer's Guild. While he is not the Guild Leader, he must always be present with Archmagus Kisaki during political and social outtings due to her status as a minor. This is primarily an excuse to try to keep her in line, as she is very prone to emotional outburst, but Dr. Vox is not very good at controlling her. He excels in Abjury, primarily, but also has a good understanding of Transmutation and Divination.

Christoph Goldsman raises an objection. "That's it? Really? This is insane! That'll drive the entire city into madness! Everyone will be fighting over that useless little trinket! Why the hell would you do that?! This is cruel! Unjust! You-"

"Ah, I have to disagree with you there, Christoph."

>Christoph Goldsman, Retirement Association's Head Organizer. Clear headed and morally strong, he is a good speaker and well liked, but prone to outbursts. He is in very good shape for his age. The group has some sway due to its numbers, but lacks much in the way of resources.

Kal Royale continues. "Justice is the rules of the game, the rules set by the strongest. Rastin is... was, the strongest. He determines what counts as justice. If you disagree, you should just... win his contest. And then, you can set your own rules, and you can do whatever you want. It'll be... your justice. Me, I rather like Rastin's justice. It is very whimsical, fleeting. A chaotic justice."

"Pretty words for a barbarian like you, Kal." Christoph retorts.

"Brave words for an old man like you, Goldsman."

"Okay, enough of that." LeVerne interupts. "The rules are not up for debate, only for clarification."

>Kal Royale, Men's Club's Strongest. He is obsessed with strength and justice. The Men's Club is the unofficial police force of the city. They have a poor reputation among the people, but were well liked by Rastin. Contrary to their name, their membership is not exclusively male, but the majority are. Kal himself is the final Sammich Sinner.

"Ah, yes, I have a question." says Jay Henderson, a man who had up until now been very quiet. "Could I have a look at that pendant? Before we get started?"

"Master Rastin has specifically instructed me not to let you touch the pendant during the proceedings, Mr. Henderson. If you wish to analyze it, you need to win it." LeVerne answers.

"...Win it? Could you clarify what that means?"

>Dr. Jay Henderson, Arcanitech Leader. An eccentric leader for an eccentric group, he has been with Arcanitech ever since it was called Ignometics. The group seeks the advancement of magical technology, as opposed to the Sorcerer's Guild's focus on magical learning and the Technotics' focus on mechanical mastery. They are kind of a go-between group for the two, and are on friendly terms with each.

"As I feed this list into Rob, I will just say to all of you that you might want to reconsider the way you have been doing things up until now, and decide just what it is you really want." He says this to everyone, but LeVerne is clearly looking directly at the pendant.

As LeVerne holds you in his hands, you can hear his thoughts.

Now, pick who will be the one to begin with their hands on you. The next 15 days will be extremely chaotic, so choose wisely.

New priorities, then?

Alright, how about this: Rastin is very obviously up to something. He orchestrated his own alleged death, real or otherwise. This whole contest is a gigantic post-mortem roulette gambit and he's left us as the determining wildcard factor.

Our goal should be to discover what REALLY happened to Rastin and figure out how his plan changes what the terms were in the beginning.

This means we have to pick either LeVerne or Cora, as they are the only ones who are in on what's going on behind the scenes.

I'm going with LeVerne. He knows everything and if we pick him, he has to spill the beans.
No. 199284 ID: c2c011

How can Cora become the mage empress who rules the world with an ironfist if we're not there to guide her? So Cora of course.

Picking LaVerne would be quite interesting as well though. But I think we can get him to help Cora out and take him as our right hand guy for Coras rule. After all he should know how things worked under Raistin and be able to help us make sure they run smoothly when Cora takes over.
No. 199286 ID: 9c88ce

>>199265 >>199266
I vote for Kal. He's the final Sammich Sinner!
And things will get interesting very quickly.

What's more, if we go to Cora, everyone will be trying to kill Cora.

I like that girl a lot, and that's exactly why I think we should not be given to her right off. Whoever gets the Pendant of Infinite Psyche will become an immediate target. Say what you will, but Cora still doesn't know her way around the city, and she panics in direct confrontation.
We should therefore be given to someone with a decent grasp of the city -- any of the guild leaders.
I also, personally, think it should be someone we do not want to end up with, and then work to undermine them. Throw the Bads against each other, sortof thing.

Why Kal?
Because he's the last Sammich Sinner, so he's sure to be a lot of fun.
And because he is not a nice person, so we won't have to feel bad when we leave him behind.

But regardless of who we pick, above all else, we should not be given to Cora.

What Would Rastin Do?

Otherwise: LeVerne.

Cora. We're too restricted with everyone else in what we can and can't say, without cocking everything up.

Christoph is most likely to divide the orb up and share dictatorship as to prevent assassination attempt (for a while, there'll be a lot of usurping being planned. So cementing a council would be crucial. And it'll probably only work if he's extremely public with all of this)

If we're worried about giving away too much to an enemy, why don't we just pick a friend?

Like Vox or Seras? Then we can say whatever we want in an attempt to get them to genuinely help us.
Whoever leaves this room with the Orb will become an instant target for the others.

After we've left, the orb can change hands with nobody the wiser. But we should really, really think about all the consequences of who we're going to here, right now.

I'd sooner vote for LeVerne than Cora. Anyone but Cora!

(Changing My vote thanks to convincing author shenanigan's and appeal to sense instead of caution).

I'll second LaVerne.

We promised to help Coralina along, but she's gonna need to mature, and the best way to do that is get her to stand on on her own two feet and WIN US BACK WITH HER OWN STRENGTH AND WIT, without us as a crutch (Damn your argument, gnome). I have faith.

In the meantime, we'll sow seeds that will make her eventual takeover that much smoother...by working from the INSIDE.

No. 199378 ID: 5fe4a8

Another vote for Kal, here. He's a fan of Rastin, so he's at least got to be interesting.

And Cora would die if she started with it.
No. 199395 ID: a594b9

Hey guys, it's pretty obvious at this point that Rastin has things set up so that in 15 days, Vresch will fall. No matter what we do, that will happen. Thus, we should aspire to be in the hands of someone who follows our philosophy at that point.

Also, the Valkyrie is using an ENCHANTED SHOTGUN and has a LONG PONYTAIL. It's Kara, fools! Remember, she is rather flat, very tall, and very strong? It's not surprising that people are mistaking her for a man.

Let's look at our choices here and how they relate to what I assume we want: a peaceful world free from injustice, where anyone can decide whether to live in the city or not. The latter thing is really the only reason I wouldn't want Vresch in charge: people are being forced to live in his city and that's wrong.

LeVerne is associated with Rastin, and we've already seen what happens if he's truly in charge. We also have no idea what LeVerne would do if he were in charge. There's no indication of his character aside from being loyal to Rastin and very patient with us. We also don't know how well protected he would be! He might be able to go hide in a bunker, and then we'd be kinda fucked because then Rastin might be back in charge again for REAL.
Cora is... well her main goal has been to knock Vresch off his throne, and she's not associated with any group. If Vresch falls in 15 days she's going to be an independent agent. She has a good chance of getting the backing of several different groups but the people will be unlikely to trust her without Vresch's help setting up a good backstory. She's a good person though, so I assume she won't cock everything up if she's leader. She's a good final choice, but not a good first choice because she doesn't have a lot of power behind her to watch her back.
Dr. Ivanis Simic is seedy. Not a good final choice. Might have good bodyguards, so not sure if he'd make a good first choice either.
Naveen... kinda tried to rape Cora. We could pick her first if we want to get revenge. She also has next to no power so it probably wouldn't be long before she lost us. On the other hand she's in control of the media and could smear/blackmail people to keep them from getting the orb...
Mitch Erane would be an interesting final choice, as he seems to be a relatively good person AND would follow our orders. Not much power behind him though. Would make an awesome first choice if we want to sacrifice him.
Ragas Melin is a goddamn fraud. He can't possibly be 1700 years old. Magic wasn't around until Kara Quest and supertech didn't arrive until recently as well. If we choose him first we'd be doing the city a favor by letting him get taken out, and although he has a very large following it doesn't seem like they are particularly militaristic. Well, there's power in numbers, I suppose... but his pride could be a weakness to exploit.
Lisa Iwakura isn't politically motivated, which means she's gonna be fairly useless as a final choice. There's no real reason to act against her either. Leave her be.
Michael Portman is paranoid and morally questionable. If we picked him we'd probably be safe for the whole 15 days. He is a bad final choice and bad first choice. Steer clear of him.
Seras Nightsun is an interesting person! Unfortunately she doesn't have a lot of power behind her so she'd make a bad first choice. Wouldn't be bad if she won, though she is a bit too idealistic, really. The world doesn't work like she thinks it does.
Terra Kisaki doesn't seem like a very good person, and has a lot of personal power behind her. However... if we picked her, Cora might be able to get some support in deposing her?
Cornelius Vox... I'm not sure what to think about him. He might wind up being bullied/forced into handing the orb over to Terra.
Christoph Goldsman seems like a good guy. He's not strong though so he makes a bad first choice.
Kal Royale is another Sinner, and is another bad final choice. He's got a good amount of power so picking him first is a bit of a gamble.
Jay Henderson is another neutral party. I'd LOVE to have him analyze us... but then what? He probably has some good power though.

I vote for Ragas Melin. Let's take this fucker out.

I actually rather like LaVerne, he seems the most clever and easily the most neutral of all our choices. I meant he's the operator of Rastin's will but I don't think he'd hand us back to Rastin if it means he gets to be the leader. I mean look at this guy I bet he could KO Cora's gorilla in a boxing match.

... note to self, arrange that boxing match.

So yea one more vote for the big LaVerne.

REMI! We're friends of Cora.

Listen, it's vital that you get the stone off of the pendant. We're just the stone, and the rest of it contains tracking gear. You need to ditch that crap right away. I dunno, maybe just sticking it in a microwave or something would work.
Rastin seems to have either died or faked his death, and has it set-up so that whoever holds the pendant at the end of his little contest is supposed to be his replacement as leader.

Equally important is the fact that Cora seems to be falling for you. You'd make a cute couple~
No. 204835 ID: a594b9

Aw man, this sucks. I wouldn't have wanted you to have us on the first round.

Okay Remi, listen close. Rastin's set up a game of sorts where whoever's holding us at the end of a 15 day period starting today becomes the new leader of the city. Currently, this information is not widely known, as far as we know. LeVerne knows, but does not wish to be chosen, as you just found out. Others who know:
Archmagus Terra Kisaki
Dr. Cornelius Vox
Christoph Goldsman
Coralina Madison
Dr. Ivanis Simic
Jay Henderson
Kal Royale
Lisa Iwakura
Michael Portman
Mitch Erane
Ragas Melin
Seras Nightsun

Thankfully, the terms dictate that they stay in the meeting room for the next half hour. Don't believe us? Look at the big TVs. So, you have a choice. Hand us off to someone else asap, wait a while before giving us up, or try to keep us for the long haul.

What this guy said. You seemed like a fun guy to hang out with, so now we're stuck to you!
I guess you could say our heart is yours.

> Master Rastin wants you to put this jigsaw together yourself.
Let's play a game.
In this game, we go along with you on any last-minute errands you had to do during the second apocalypse. In the meantime, we'll be trying to figure out Rastin's plan and set things up to get our Golden Ending.
You don't have to tell us what Rastin's plan is, because that would ruin the game and you probably wouldn't anyway. You are pretty much obligated to help us actually do things, and at least humor us when we talk to you. In exchange, we are pretty much obligated to keep you alive for awhile and help you accomplish things, because you're our current means of transport, probably the closest thing to a neutral party around here, and also a pretty cool guy who doesn't afraid
The 'winner' of this game is whoever gets the most done at the end.

True cooperation is encouraged! But not totally required.
Just think: you've been given a plot ticket towards your own personal dreams and aspirations! Even if they're not actually yours! And all you have to do is not fuck up.

Now lets get down to buisness. First of all, fuck Rastin. The dead troll won't stay dead and he's gonna have expected this and fed you with false information for just such an event as this. So we're gonna go down the jigsaw puzzle route.

Now, I assume you're not really after running this city yourself. We kind of want Cora to get the power, and we want you to help her. Not directly of course, but make sure that maybe she gets a bit more vital information than the rest, and maybe her opponents get some misinformation about her.

In return we can set you up with something nice later on. Or now if it's in our power.

It is beyond your own capabilities, at least.

I will keep that in mind, if there is a next time.

>Passing us off to someone else as a last minute prank, though? Inflicting us on innocent bystanders is not cool, dude.
That... was not a prank. It was entirely serious. I was expecting you would fill her in on everything, and help her decide what would need to be done next. And she is hardly an innocent bystander.

>How do those signs work, anyway? Would they work for just anyone? Does everyone out there watching the signs know about the contest now, or do they think this is some weird new reality show?
The signs list the name and location of the current holder, as well as a picture of their face. It will work regardless of who is holding you. There are no written instructions as to the nature of this game, although I am sure at least one of the guild leaders will go public with the rules at some point.

So, Rastin has set himself up with a new identity and plans to arrange for us to fall into either his hands or the hands of a person under his sway but without well-known ties to himself. His girlfriend has been kept out of the public eye, so she's a potential candidate.
Kara's return probably has a lot to do with it.

Yes. I was betting my life on it. I was going to be the decoy so Remi could get you away from here. Kara was probably camping the first NPT to leave that meeting room, since those are the only way in or out of the place.

"What do you even want with Neotis, Ms. Sigurd? Ruling a city is a lot of work. And obtaining the pendant this early on ensures you will be targeted by everyone. Even you have your limits."

"Ruling a city? What? No. Rastin needs that for his big, stupid plan that makes everything suck, right? I'm gonna destroy it. Take it out of the city and blow it to shit."

"...I am sorry, Ms. Sigurd. But I can't allow that." Kara cocks her shotgun. Ch-chk.

I think I will need whatever aid you can provide, Orb. I am not even sure what caliber that gun is.

>How fast can you run?
Fast enough, if I can stun her. But I am still cornered, right now.

On a related note? Spilling the beans about Rastin's plans would certainly improve your odds, since Kara is ultimately out to sabotage him.

Well, you could ask her why she feels the need to destroy a shard of a ball full of perverted voices that rarely get anything done, then revealing to her exactly what our part in Rastin's 'plan' is; or you could go with what someone else will inevitably say because I am stealing this plan from them and tell her that, oh yeah, Hope is free from the giant ass-fuck crystal thing Kara sealed her in.

So, you ask her, which is the bigger threat - Hope, wielder of the source of magic; or a shard of a ball that has voices in it?

Other than that? She's got a huge shotgun in your face, and it's ready to fire. We know from experience (please don't ask) that she's too single-minded to actually fall for anything long enough for you to get up, clonk her over the head, and escape.

Actually. Wait. That's not a bad plan. Hand us over willingly; we'll see what we can do. Be ready to react, though.

Whatever you do, do not actually hand us over. We might be able to influence her, but you know what? She's a pyschotic bitch, and I don't really want to factor that into our plans at this juncture.

You need cover between you and her. She has wings, so she can maybe fly? I 'unno, but don't risk it. Indoors is a good option.

Consider disabling her shotgun. You seem to rather significantly enhanced? Cybernetics? Must weigh quite a bit. Deliver a quick stomp to the barrel of that shotgun on your way.
No. 205261 ID: 059120

Grab it, break it if you can. Remind her who told her about these plans, again. Rastin's not the sort to brag about his plans and get himself killed. Isn't it obvious you trying to break this thing is part of the scheme?

Kick her shotgun away and pin her down, shove us in her face and inform her that no, she is wrong. The orb is not Rastin's tool. Make her listen to us- like, put us around her neck. I don't want to have to kill Kara... what we know about her past might be enough to convince her to at least stop trying to destroy us, and go back home to her kobold husband.
No. 205275 ID: 6547ec

Okay, so you're considerably more durable than we first thought. Another one of those little factoids we really could have used earlier.

Can you just stomp the barrel of the shotgun, rendering it useless? Not sure how weird magical augmentation works on weaponry, but hey. Simple and to the point.
No. 205290 ID: c2c011

Damn, you really pack quite the punch. Keep the shotgun from her and tell her that if she keeps this up the George might get caught in the crossfire.

After you got the shotgun away from her, ask her if she wouldn't be willing to tag along with you to a nice place where they serve good tea. Then you two can talk things over and if she still wants the orb medallion after that then you can find a more remote location to settle things, where there are no bystanders to get caught up in it.

No. 205351 ID: e31d52

You need more time then. How do you make it take longer for her to fire? By forcing her to take more time to aim. By distracting her.

Throw us over her shoulder. Then punch her as hard as you can directly in the solar plexus.
No. 205352 ID: c2c011

Throw us in her face while you keep going towards her. We will try to distract her while you disarm her. But just to be safe you should probably dodge out of the way scant moments before she pulls the trigger. That thing has a bit wider spread than a normal shotgun but I'm confident you can do it.

And from the looks of things there isn't really any good cover that you can get behind in those two seconds.
No. 205357 ID: 059120

Throwing us again probably won't work as well a second time. You probably don't have the moment to spare, either. How about "Oh, greetings, Master Rastin."

Yet even a glancing blow caused this much harm. It did not strike anything important for my functioning, but my interior is exposed, which is a bad state to be in.

Fortunately, body slamming seems to be a highly effective strategy. I believe Ms. Sigurd is now unconscious. I do not think I will ever use this type of attack again.

Steal her shotgun. ... And her helmet.
Although you're a pacifist, a gun that fires huge blasts of fire and shrapnel would be useful in, say, opening doorways or something. There are lots of ways to use that which don't involve hurting people. Besides it's probably safer with you than anyone else.
As for the helmet, you have a gaping head wound and are likely to scare small children. This will cover it up.

After that, put Kara somewhere safe and out of the way, I suppose.

Hmm. I think I would prefer she followed me with her vendetta, rather than you. If you get destroyed, this contest becomes nullified. True chaos will descend upon the city as everyone fights for the position, with the only plan being total annihilation or subjugation of all other factions. Right now... right now there is a goal. By all accounts, you've been loyal to Rastin since before Neotis. How'd Rastin and Vresch end up working together again? I can see how Rastin would enjoy his end of the partnership, but given Vresch's love of plans I'm surprised he'd pick him to work around. So either Rastin was able to figure out he got summoned again somehow, or Vresch was after the crystal and ran into Rastin still around it. What was Rastin doing between Kara killing him and Vresch showing up again, too? Ten years is a while to not get anything done.

What would you do if we're still in your hands in fifteen days? Not that I honestly expect that to happen. Is there anyone you're hoping for in particular? What are you going to do once you don't win, for that matter? Assuming Rastin's actually dead, you're free to do whatever you want. You think Vresch would still keep you working for him? Would you want to, anyway?

How do you feel about Vresch? Hope? Cora?

What was the point of handing us off to Remi? Why not just invite her and leave you off the list in the first place? Though I suppose we do have a record for write-ins...

I have arrived at my stronghold. This place is an underground facility, hidden from Vresch's web of sensors. It was built after Vresch had finished the city, by people who expanded on their own. There are all sorts of places like this all throughout the city. I have left Ms. Sigurd in the room beyond that door, and tended to her wing and arm. She is resting now.

I have replaced my suit, and acquired a hat. It clashes with my outfit. I should probably wear something less conspicuous than a business suit, in any case. If you have any stylistic suggestions, I can attempt to accomodate them. Anything that covers both my right side and my head should be sufficient.

Let's start at the beginning of my story. A long time ago, I was not named LeVerne.

I was programmed to follow any order I was given by Master Rastin. I was there when Ms. Sigurd defeated him. I am uncertain, but I think he might have actually died then. I do not know.

Regardless, Hope began to attack Ms. Sigurd. I would not know the outcome of that battle until later, for while they were distracted, I took Master Rastin and fled.

Outside, I met Master Vresch. I do not know how he got there, but at the time, I was not very bright. I did not question it. He healed Master Rastin, although I know not how. But it was not perfect - Master Rastin had fallen into a coma. He was not going to wake up without extensive medical treatment and close, professional attention.

Master Vresch built him an underground facility within moments, filling it with all sorts of medical equipment syphoned from the recently attacked tower. He placed me as its guard, and said he had other matters to attend to. I made Master Vresch promise he would come back for my Master. He is a man of pride, after all. He would not, no, he could not break a promise. Or so I had thought.

I did not see Master Vresch again for over ten years.

As per my last orders, anyone who had discovered the facility was eliminated. I am completely and entirely unable to disobey an order from Master Rastin. I did not want to hurt them... but I had no choice. Master Rastin's life was in my hands.

After 10 long, bloody years, with not a single drop of tea to be served, Master Vresch returned, as per his promise. On that day, I swore a vow of non-violence. It has been very difficult to maintain.

It was at that time that I met Bicardi. He had also fallen into a coma, from some sort of head wound. Master Vresch set about restoring both Master Rastin and Bicardi to consciousness. It took a long time, but not as long as my wait. A month or two, perhaps. It is hard to say. I was not always aware during that month, you see.

At that point, I do not know what was going through Master Vresch's mind. Pity? Prudence? Boredom? Curiosity? Perhaps he just wanted an assistant. I may never know, but he decided to reward me for my long, long wait. He decided to improve me.

I learned a great deal about a variety of topics Master Vresch deemed necessary. Medicine and warfare. History and politics. Manners and elegance. Philosophy and beaurocracy. Physics and chemistry. I was to continue to be Master Rastin's personal butler, as per my request at the time. Before then, I was too stupid to realize how cruel Master Rastin could be. Over the next 6 years, I grew to dislike my master, with his cruel and violent whims. But I had no choice. I am his slave.

After my modification, I became as you see now. Only Master Vresch knows how to repair me - even I do not know how. I can not go to Master Vresch right now. Should he find me, he would dismantle me and learn of Master Rastin's plan by pruning my database. This would be very suboptimal. Currently, I can continue functioning without any repairs, but I am vulnerable. I doubt anyone in the city has the know-how necessary to repair me... except maybe Ms. Iwakura. Possibly.

I must also apologize. Previously, I lied to you. I said I obeyed Master Rastin's final wishes out of fear. The truth is, I can not disobey him. I must see his vision completed, or die trying.

I would appreciate if you told no one any of what I just told you. I anticipate you will certainly tell someone, at some point, because that is how you do things. This is why I can not tell you of Master Rastin's plan.

I can not tell you that Master Vresch can only survey parts of the city he himself built from his manse., and places built afterwards do not normally have his uplinks built into them.

I can not tell you anything about Master Rastin. I can not tell you that Roselle is the only person in the world he cares about, and I can not tell you that she is actually his 15 year old daughter he wants no one to know exists. I can not tell you that I am expressly forbidden from ever mentioning her existence to anyone.

I can not tell you that I do not care who wins, as long as it is someone humanity has decided to follow. I have no right to determine how others wish to live. Humanity should decide Humanity's own fate.

Please consider everything you have done up to this point. Please consider, very carefully, what you want to do from here on out. I can not tell you that I am very afraid of what will happen to the people of this city.

...I do not know what move to make next. I did not expect to need to make another play in this grand game. This grand... violent... unnecessarily lethal game. I do not expect to survive these 15 days. The fight with Ms. Sigurd is but the tip of the iceberg.

Thank you, LeVerne. For what it's worth, as long as you're with us, we'll do everything we can to keep you alive through it. And even after, if we can. You seem a good sort.

As for deciding the fate of the city, fortunately, we're very good at doing things we have no right to do.

Now then. To business. You're probably going to be attacked soon. This place have any defenses? Security cameras? Anything?

Get a trenchcoat to go with the hat you've got on already. You'll look like some random schmoe.

Since you've sworn an oath of nonviolence (and are pretty damn likeable) I strongly suggest handing off the orb to someone else. Since we're early in the game it should be someone we don't like, who is egotistical enough to want the orb at this point but ALSO not powerful enough to hold onto it for the full 15 days.

Someone like... Ragas Melin.

(can we do this properly this time, guys? Trying to be like Rastin and trolling the entire room just got LeVerne hurt without accomplishing much of anything.)

Can you not tell us the location of this old facility? Can you most definitely please not tell us it was anywhere near a lolcats server facility and never was? That blood on you from the past has an identity, I just hope its not from anybody we personally knew.

Don't be so glum, the orb has a substantial amount of luck to it and not just our voices. We hardly get our holder killed, close, but not killed, knocking on wood of course. I don't take it you have something adorable to look at nearby to make you more cheerful? Don't worry, Rastin's your Skynet, maybe we'll find your John Conner soon if we're not it. If not, we're kinda like him in a way.

PS, thanks for all the not backstory bro.

One big question then. You can't tell us Rastin's plan, but you can tell us this: why did he allow Sigurd to kill him?

Thanks for that, LeVerne. You are a scholar and a gentleman; we'll do what we can to get at least most of you through this operational, if not intact. For what it's worth, you've put us in absolutely the best place to start this game. There's little urgency beyond the game actually ending from here.

Do you have a plan for getting us out of here and into someone else's hands, or are you intending to just open the door and punt us into the distance? The latter sounds like it could be fun, but we'd like to hear your thoughts on the matter.

But first of all you need to lose that suit and make yourself look less conspicous. Smear some dirt in your face as well, make sure you don't really look like the La Verne people know.

After which it's probably time to check up on what the others are doing to win. Then we can decide which one we're going to hang out with for a while when we're planning our next move.

> No right to determine the fate of this city. But it is you. Only you.
> Please consider everything.. Please consider, very carefully..
In the end, we want Cora to win. Not just because we've been with her longer. But because she's a good person. Cora feels responsible for things. Even when they're not her fault. She tries really hard.
She'd probably say she has no right to this city, either. But that's at least part of the reason why she is one of the best candidates. Because she would respect that role.

Vresch told Cora to make friends. We should do that on her behalf, even if it's not the way Vresch intended it.
Find the more reasonable faction leaders. The ones who won't go mad with power and won't shoot you on sight. You will explain to them, in as much detail as you're allowed to muster, what is going on.
You will try to form an alliance between all the various non-crazy factions to minimize city damage and combat craziness. You'll create a bubble of stability in a city gone mad.
When we return to Cora, you will make sure that there is still a city for her to rule, and people to help her rule it.

And, before all of this, you'll throw us at Kal Royale before you do it.

We're honestly a liability at this point. Any time spent with you is just shortening your lifespan, and we'll probably end up with someone dangerous regardless. Throw us at Kal, because he's a crazy. He's a Sinner. He's Wrath Incarnate.
We'll try to guide Wrath as much as we're able to take out the other crazies. I don't know how successful we'll be, but it's better than putting you and the other non-crazies in danger this early in the game. We'll try our best.
And if by some horrible fate we're still in the hands of a crazy on the final day, please put everything you have into pulling the other factions together to put that person down.

Is that okay? Can you do that for us... Teabot?
No. 216426 ID: f4963f

Seconding getting us in Kal's hands. He'd be a dangerous leader, but if he's like the other Sammy Sinners, it shouldn't be hard to influence him. Cora and the other sane candidates will be a lot safer with him off their hands.
No. 216439 ID: 40cb26

I like the way this one thinks. Yes we should probably go to Kal first... but YOU need to go see Ms. Iwakura directly. See if she can repair you to some degree, speak on our behalf with her, let her know her support will be rewarded with research funding and such. Offer whatever would appeal to her most greatly, while still keeping it responsible and fair to the other interests we hope to win over.

If it is possible, see if you can be modified to some degree. I doubt she could do much about your programming but if you can change your appearance to something the others wouldn't recognize that should be very useful.
No. 216466 ID: 059120

Is pretty close to a great plan. Let's see, I'd mark the people you should try forming an alliance between as You, Cora, Remi, Lisa, Chris, Jay, and Seras. Mitch and Vox are maybes.

I think we've covered you enough.

Cora is a generally good-natured person. I'm not sure if she'd be up to running a city, but we've spent enough time with her to know she'd try to do a great job. She really trusts us, so if we went to with you she'd go along with the plan for sure. Of course if we don't, she might not trust you at all, being Rastin's lackey, and it's not like we can write a note or... The doorknob! Ask if she still has the doorknob. She's probably the best bet for you to visit first. And then let her take control of meeting the rest of the leaders. The "Rastin's Lackey" trust issues probably apply to everyone else, too.

Remi is pretty cool. Cora got to be pretty good friends with her, so she'd be good to go meet next. She seems to be good at negotiation and PR, too, so that would help in forming an alliance.

We don't know much about Lisa, but she appeared to be an alright person. Plus she's the only hope you've got at getting repaired, right?

Chris seems to a reasonable, experienced man. Honestly, from the only moment we saw him, he sounded like you. We don't know much about him, though.

Once again, we don't know much about Jay. I respect what Arcanitech is doing, though, and he didn't have any notable apparent flaws. Save him for later.

Seras gets respect for being an idealist who's gotten so far. If she exposes this game, which she's surely going to do, then... shit. You might want to try and find her first, before everyone in the city is after us. But still, she'd be act as a good conscience, and her investigative abilities could help keep track of what's going on in the chaos.

Mitch might be okay, but could also be an serious risk. I wouldn't go after him until you've got most the others. His organization is large and willing to do about anything, so they'd probably be helpful overall.

Vox seemed like a much better leader than Terra. He'd be good to get in if it didn't mean Terra would, too, which it unfortunately probably does. Avoid him unless they get separated.

That leaves Kal, Ragas, Ivan, Naveen, Terra, and Mike. Also Hope, Kara, Vresch, and Rastin.

Kal seems like an interesting fellow, if not a very good one. He'd definitely be fun to hang around with. If we're not going with you (which I vote for), try and get us passed off to him.

Ragas is a creep, and possibly incredibly dangerous. I agree with the guy who keeps telling us to try and get rid of him.

We don't know anything about Ivan. His organization seems to be fairly amoral, but he could still be a good person. Or he could be the worst of the lot. If we can get some time with him, it would be cool find out what he's like. Otherwise, consider him a potential threat.

Naveen is not a good person. The media is a powerful tool, though. And she's definitely better than some of the others. I would mostly ignore her.

Terra is a threat. She's immature and powerful. Getting the Sorcerer's Guild out of her control would be nice.

Mike is pretty much on the same level as Ivan. He's potentially a lot more powerful, though.

Hope's probably the most dangerous. Of course, she's got the other half of us, so we might be able to keep her a bit under reins. Or make everything multitudes worse. Probably the latter. And if she's actually going to assist the Secluded, they might be a concern. They're planning on running away to space, if you didn't know. We can probably ignore them if Hope doesn't try using them for something, though.

Kara's probably the next most dangerous. Thankfully, we've already got her down. For now. I've honestly got no idea what to do with her. We need to take care to George, though. He's probably around somewhere.

Vresch is a serious threat. I can't predict what he's going to do at all. This game is definitely going to screw with his plans, which is going to cause problems. We need to be on the watch for him.

Rastin is dead until we see evidence to the contrary.

Hmm, so it sounds like Bicardi was actually the Jacob Cora knew, too.

So, yeah, in summation. First, we need to do something about Kara. Then we split up. You should go form an alliance out of the more reasonable leaders. Go after Cora, then Remi, then Lisa, then Chris, Jay, Lisa, and Seras. We'll try and work the threats against each other. Kal's the coolest holder for that. We're talking about Kal, Ragas, Ivan, Mike, Terra, Hope, and Vresch here.

>have you ever tried not obeying an order? I mean would you short out if you disobeyed or something?
I do not "short out," or anything so self destructive. I merely freeze, and find myself incapable of performing the forbidden action. Your ability to read minds is useful for circumventing this restriction, but only concerning the spoken word. I am still incapable of performing a forbidden action.

I put on some bum quality clothing. This is the first time I have worn such an attire. We shall see if I make a habit of it.

As for defenses, no. This facility's primary defense is that very few people know of it. It is also rather close to Rastin's manor, as well as the Technotics building. This place's location is only known to myself, Master Rastin, and Jacob Bicardi. This makes it a liability in the long run, but it is good for temporary refuge. I will leave Kara here, but I should not stay.

>why did he allow Sigurd to kill him?
In the past? I do not believe he did. She simply won. I do not think anyone allows someone to slam them into the ground at such a high speed. In the present? I am uncertain.

My "plan" involves taking you directly to whoever you wish to go to, and then handing you to them directly.

From my understanding, the current plan is a simple one.

I will deliver you to Kal Royale immediately. Afterwards, I will go see Ms. Lisa Iwakura, and hopefully get repairs from her. I will attempt to recruit her into an alliance between her, Coralina Madison, Remi Leda, Christoph Goldsman, and Seras Nightsun. Mitch Erane and Dr. Cornelius Vox are also to join if conditions are ideal. However, from what I know of the politics of the city, Mr. Erane would join any cause Ms. Nightsun approved of. He seems to idolize her. When I see Ms. Coralina, I will be sure to mention doorknobs. I will leave Ms. Sigurd here, entirely disarmed. Should I run into George, I will give him directions to this location.

If there are no problems with this course of action, I will set out immediately. If there is anything I should acquire first, now is the time - this building is stocked with all sorts of equipment for emergencies.

>Actually... what about going with him? We were going to split up anyway, and he's right here. He's not Kal, but anyone will do, really. What do you know about Jake? How loyal is he to Vresch? Why would he have come here?
I do not know why he came here. However, he is to Lord Vresch what I am to Master Rastin. He does not disobey him - not out of any programmed commitment, but out of loyalty. He believes in what Vresch is doing.

"Heh... Hello, LeVerne. You seem pretty busy lately.Where's Rastin got to? What's this "Holder" business?"

Anything he knows will likely end up being known by Vresch. If you think you can stop him from doing that, I could give you to him.

No. 216508 ID: 059120

We probably can't. What would Vresch do if he found out? He's going to eventually, y'know.

I can't think of cover for what's going on either, though. So that basically leaves knocking him out.

Going with him would be the most fun. I vote for that. Preemptive seeya, LeVerne. Good luck with Plan Apoliticalyption.

He would be a pretty amazing liar if he did. He was suffering from a head wound, it's probably he actually got amnesia.
No. 216512 ID: e3f578

Rastin probably planned for such a possibility that Jacob would get us considering the rules of the game. He may not be concerned about it.

Pfft, we could handle convincing him to not tell Vresch anyway. We got Cora to contemplate getting to this city and working with the Demon that she presumed ruined the world and her old life. We convinced Hope to give Cora the benefit of the doubt for working with Vresch and Rastin should she ever successfully pull off a dangerous plan that would kill a lot of people. So yeah, we could handle convincing Jacob not to help a man who saved his life. In comparison to Hope, he's small time. It would be nice knowing his thoughts as well.
No. 216527 ID: f4e4f9

Actually, it saved his life. He basically told us he was going to die in that fight.

Also, LeVerne, you shouldn't be so pessimistic. Expecting to die shouldn't occupy your mind at all. Expecting to have your plans succeed, and to survive to enjoy their born fruits, and how you can do so, should.
No. 216598 ID: c2c011

Hmm, this could be annoying. We don't really know enough about him to be sure if we can keep him quiet ot not.

Best bet is probably to lock him in a place where he can't get out for 15 days but will stay alive.

Although it's possible he might have some sort of remote communication implant that will allow him to get out.

Hmm, maybe you should just tell him that all will unfold according to Vresch's plan and he doesn't need to worry about a thing.
No. 216640 ID: 5c7574

Okay, damage control time. Politely (as if you could do it any other way, you impressively dapper man you) inform Bicardi that Rastin has found a solution to Vresch's request to replace himself with Cora without arousing undue suspicion, while satisfying his own need to turn everything into a game. Nothing to worry about.

Under no circumstances should he be allowed to touch us. If necessary, inform him that to ensure Cora wins, an enchantment has been placed on the amulet that will slowly drive the holder mad, and the only people it won't affect are yourself and Cora. Because it wouldn't be Rastin's game if it wasn't rigged, would it?
No. 216662 ID: 932552

Don't let him touch us. I'm sure he's a nice guy and means well, but I doubt our ability to keep Vresch uninvolved. Vresch will just screw up everything in what will most likely become an increasingly desperate attempt to keep things under control.

We're agents of Chaos, if anything. We won't get anything done if Vresch gets his hands on us. But maybe we can use Vresch indirectly.

Tell Bicardi the factions are fighting for dominance. You're going to try to minimize the damage. He'll probably report back to Vresch, who will try (and fail, but try) to stop things from exploding.
Be vague. Act like you don't know the whole story. Don't mention us.

If Bicardi asks you to come back with him, tell him you can't, you have to try to go protect the city.
It's not like he's really capable of stopping you.

Actually, his right arm is a powerful mechanical replacement. He could, indeed, harm me. However, I am at a staggering advantage overall, but were he to hit one of my current wounds that could likely incapacitate me.

>knock him out
I can do this if necessary, but I'd rather use it as a last resort.

>Story time
"Master Rastin has decided to honor Lord Vresch's request to elect Ms. Madison as the new leader of Neotis. You know how he works - he likes to play games, make things more interesting. The one holding this pendant at the end of the month is the new leader. I am to ensure that person is Coralina."

I briefly explain the rules of the contest to Jacob, and mention the meeting. I tell him to tell as few people as possible about this, to limit the chaos of the contest.

"So, why do you still have it? Shouldn't you have given it to someone by now?" Jacob asks.

"Things were... complicated, at the meeting."

"...I am sure they were. LeVerne. Let's work together on this. I watch your back, you watch mine. I'm interested in Cora ending up with that rock at the end of this, too. Waddaya say?"

A truly tempting offer. We have worked together for many years, and know each others' secrets. He would be a poor enemy for me to make. However, in this situation, an ally so closely in touch with Lord Vresch could be quite the liability.
No. 219724 ID: 6547ec

He already knows the whole story, so if he's going to blab too much to Vresch, he's going to do it no matter what you do now. The important question is if we can trust him. If we can, go for it, give him the orb. If not, knock him out and stuff him next to Kara.
No. 219726 ID: 55e935

No. 219909 ID: 5c7574

Okay, LeVerne. You trust Jacob? Here's what to do.

Let him down, gently, now that he's been determined to not be a threat (at least overtly). Tell him that you didn't want him to be involved in this game of Rastin's. Because there is one more rule, one that you didn't tell the others because it wouldn't need to apply to them anyway. One last rule for Rastin to thumb his nose at Vresch with, a rule that you MUST ensure is followed. That rule is that no one is allowed to tell Vresch about what happens to them while holding the pendant. If he asks why, remind him, it's Rastin.

Tell him that you didn't want to involve him because you didn't think he'd be comfortable with that rule. But if he can follow it, he can help.

"...I suppose." I say, after a long pause. I set Jacob down gently. "However, if we are to work together, there is one more rule to this contest I must tell you. Under no circumstances may Lord Vresch be made aware of what happens while you are holding the pendant. If you can not agree to this rule, I can not allow you to participate in this event, in any way."

"Okay, sure. I can do that." Jacob replies almost too quickly. I doubt he is actually committed to following such a rule, as he is a liar by nature. But, I will not be getting a better answer than that.

"Very well. Let's go." I say evenly. There is no need for him to know how little I trust him. In addition, if I take him out of here immediately, he will not discover Ms. Sigurd.

"Where are we going?"

"We're looking for someone to start the contest with this pendant. It was supposed to be someone at the meeting. I intend to give it to one of them."

"Oh? Who did you have in mind? Nightsun? Remi?"

"Kal Royale."

"...Huh." I do not think he expected me to pick someone so violent. It is very against my own nature, I must admit.

Ms. Seras Nightsun, the honest reporter of Neotis. I expected someone more violent to be the first I would come across. Perhaps they are readying preparations. It has only been a few hours.

She approaches me quickly. One of the few people in Neotis taller than I, Ms. Nightsun's intimidating height belies her peaceful nature. She is not a timid woman. Not in the least.

"LeVerne. You've always been a man of peace, in spite of your crazy leader. I don't know why you are so loyal to him, and it doesn't really matter at this point. What are you trying to do? What do you hope to accomplish? I'm having trouble seeing the point of all of this. It can't end well, you know that. What is going on here, LeVerne?"

This seems too confrontational for an interview. She's really worked up over this. I think I should tread carefully here. Jacob is also a bit of a hot head. He might make this worse, but for now, he seems content to let me handle it.

Tell her that you intend to do what must be done. The pendant will end up in the hands of someone competent and able to lead the city, you're going to make sure of that or die trying. But she needs to trust you here, it might seem as if things are going wrong during the contest, but in the end it will all end up the way it's supposed to be.
No. 220191 ID: 40cb26

Ask her to simply trust you. Be as simple and sincere as you can. If she continues to demand an explanation just tell her that you seek the best possible end, but it requires complex and dangerous means.

That... probably won't satisfy her, but it should be enough to get her off our back for now. Personally I like her, wish we could go with her for a while and explain things but it would just get her killed.

But since she's here, how about we take some advantage of that? She can contact our eventual allies, and ask them not to interfere until we give the word. Let the violent ones kill themselves off first.

The game was Rastin's last set of instructions. You are going to follow them to the letter. On the other hand, there's nothing that says you can't do things that aren't stated by the instructions.
You being picked was an unexpected complication, but you're going to make the best of it. We're going to try to bring about the best possible outcome within the boundaries we've been given.

For that matter, ask her if she's started thinking about what she'd like to do about all this. She's a reporter. No doubt she'll want to start telling people. Gathering like minded individuals. Rallying some sort of defense.

If she asks for the orb, deny. Whoever holds the orb will be a target. That should be common knowledge.
But tell her you have complete faith in her abilities.
No. 220337 ID: 059120

First off, explain that this was Rastin's final request, and you're obligated to fulfill it. Now that it's been started, though, you've basically got free roam. You've got a loose plan to try and make things work out, but you're honestly curious for any advice. Ask what she thinks you should do, and what she plans to do.

Also yes all of this is perfect as usual.
No. 220435 ID: 059120

Some things you should stress are that you realize the gravity of the situation, that you're working on a peaceful resolution (that she could help with), and that you don't expect her to trust Rastin's left-hand man and the one who set things into motion. Do not mention our half of the plan, I have a feeling she would heavily disapprove of us sowing more conflict, even if it's for the good in the end.

"I am following Master Rastin's final wishes, to the letter. I am going to do everything I can to mitigate the consequences of this, however little it may be. I did not anticipate being selected initially, and I apologize in advance for all of this. It will only get worse. I do not expect you to trust me. You have very little reason to do so. I realize the gravity of the situation, and I am doing what little I can to resolve this peacefully. I only hope it will be enough."

Seras stares at me a long moment, her eyes narrowed.

"...Alright." She finally acquiesces. "I take it you have something in mind for me? I can at least hear you out."

"What do you plan to do about all of this, Ms. Nightsun? You're a reporter. Don't you think you should be reporting? Tell people about everything. Tell them what it all means. Get the public aware of what is about to unfold, before they are swept up like leaves in a storm. Whoever holds this pendant will be a target. This must be common knowledge. You need to-"

"You don't need to patronize me."

"I need your help, Ms. Nightsun."

"Yeah, I got that. For being the strong, silent type, you talk way too much."

And then Ms. Nightsun leaves. But as she does, she waves back at me. I choose to take this as a good sign, in spite of our rough parting.

After she is gone, Bicardi asks, "...I think there is more going on than I have been told."

"Not really."

"So yes, there is."

"No, there isn't. I've told you everything."

"What didn't you tell me?"

"Jacob, stop."

"Fine. How was her right hook?"

"Hmm. Where were we going again?"

"To see Mr. Royale, of the Men's Club."

"Then let's go."

The travel time was, quite thankfully, uneventful this time. I was beginning to wonder if I could simply walk down the street without being accosted.

We arrive at the Men's Club. Kal SHOULD be here, but who knows with him. The bouncer at the door tells us, "Only the strong may pass." He seems to be blocking the path.
No. 220498 ID: 5fe4a8

Be a gentleman. Ask Jacob if he would prefer to deal with this.
No. 220499 ID: 40f9f7

Perhaps ask him how to prove your strength?
No. 220501 ID: c2c011

Hmm, how are you equipped in the sensitive external testicle compartment? Because if you're lacking those you could simply challenge him to Rochamboe and let him go first, he will probably give up after 2 to 4 kicks.

Or if that doesn't float your boat then just take turns punching each other in the solar plexus until he gives up.
No. 220507 ID: 059120

Asking Jacob if he'd prefer to handle this sounds like not a terrible idea at all. You should do that!

"Would you like to deal with this, Jacob?"

"Yeah sure."

>how are you equipped in the sensitive external testicle compartment?
I have none. Regardless, Rochambeau is not a good idea. I have some difficulty controlling my strength output. I would not want to kill the man.

"H-hey! Put me down!"

Now may be a good time to mention the capabilities of Bicardi's prosthetic arm. It is capable of lifting 800 pounds without much issue, and has a full range of movement.

"Don't touch my face."

Beyond lifting strength, however, it is not particularly strong, although that same strength can be used to make a powerful right straight. Its fingers are particularly adroit, and can be used in the fine manipulation of all manner of small objects.

"Hey, LeVerne?"

"...Yes, Bicardi?"

"Butlers are awesome."

"...If you insist."

"I do."

We proceed into the Men's Club.

Look around for Kal. How you actually going to explain the fact you're handing the orb to him to Jacob? Or to Kal, for that matter. Maybe you shouldn't even try handing it to him personally. Just leave around somewhere where he'd find it.
No. 220548 ID: c2c011

He probably has a grip that would seriously fuck you up as well. Hmm, he must have some pretty decent leg muscles as well as back muscles to use that lifting capacity.

Anyway, lets look for a secretary or something that can point us to where Kal is.
No. 220562 ID: 5b4f6a

Kal is not going to want to talk, he is going to want action. Find him, toss him the pendant, wish him good luck, give him a manly thumbs-up, and walk away. Swagger a bit, if you can.

"I found Kal."

"Haheheheheh..." Kal laughs. "You're a brave man, coming to my stronghold with just the two of you. And with the pendant, too! Whatever are you thinking, LeVerne?"
No. 220596 ID: 66bf15

"simple, here, it's your problem now." and hand us over. we will then engage operation dick his plans up.

"We were thinking you might like getting your hands on it." Then, of course, toss us over and leave. Y'know, after Jacob stops being at knifepoint, I mean.

Seeya, LeVerne. Good luck.
No. 220623 ID: 40cb26

Now then, we need to give him a rationale for why we want him to have us... "Delivering this to you. Better I hand it to you than it be stolen by the unworthy or be taken from the weak. If you can survive this trial, you earn it fair and square. Just release Jacob and it's yours." Don't put us directly in his hands right away, we want Jacob to not notice Kol's reaction to us. We'll try to not provoke a sudden response but you know us.

Good luck, LeVerne.

Goodbye, my friend.

"We were thinking you might want it." LeVerne drops you. "Release Jacob, and we will be gone. You may retrieve it at your leisure. Do you accept those terms?"

"...Yeah, I think that I do." He shoves Jacob away. "Get out of here."

Team Butlers leaves.

[[Feel free to start talking to him now; we'll begin the next chapter with that. ]]

Hiya. Kal Royale. Strongest of the Men's Club. Former co-owner of Seven Deadly Sammiches. Embodiment of wrath.

We're the Pendant of Succession. We're here to help someone ascend to the throne of ruler of Neotis! And it could be you! Or someone else. Who knows?

What are your plans for this competition? Now that you've got us, people are going to come after you now, y'know.
No. 220651 ID: c2c011

So, Kal dear old chum, what is it that we will be hunting? Anything less than hunting boars with only a knife would be below such a manly man as yourself.

By the way, how are your brothers these days?
No. 220674 ID: 40cb26

Well now, aren't you the eager one? And here I was afraid we'd be playing defense. I do hope you choose worthy targets though, ignoring the lion for the lamb will only get you eaten.
No. 220691 ID: 754124

Hey Kal. You ain't nothing. I bet I could whup your ass if I weren't stuck inside a pendant.

Anyway, we're going to make somebody King of the World. Do you have what it takes?
