Grey Gale Song

I am Icae, formerly of the military rank ‘Iir’ in the Atyrian tribes.
Decades ago, my devices wrought ruin upon the face of Rekiszerat, the Spiral of Life. Rekiszerat, compared to many other worlds I have seen, contains little in the way of fuel or metals. In addition, almost every creature in the Spiral could boast near-complete regenerative powers far beyond those of alien spirals. For the most part, these two facts were irrelevant to others. But not to me.
Decades ago, I took from my prisoners like I was harvesting the fields, and not only consumed but utilized the carcasses of my enemies; in my war machines, I used my enemies’ blood as tar, their bones as grit, and their flesh as fabric. Often, I would leave them alive, so they might regrow the limbs, organs, bones, and muscle I used for my work.
Decades ago, I was feared and hated by all who knew my name. Even my brothers, propelled to leadership by my weaponry, turned against me in disgust, banishing me from my home and eventually even my world. They feared me, and they were right to fear me.
Decades ago, I made a promise to give up those ways. To build where I had destroyed, to make whole where I had divided. To learn, and to help others learn. To never hurt another soul again. This I have done.
But all of that was decades ago. Now I am called ‘Iricae’, with the civilian rank of ‘Dex’, and I am a quiet tinkerer for a peaceful Star-cult. No one would suspect any different. At times, even I forget the past.
I treasure those moments of ignorance.
