his reason for being in the cave wasn't really related to the overall story. He simply crash landed and tumbled into the cave due to hitting some turbulance while flying. While he was out, the engsami were already in the caves, looted him, chucked his unconscious form into the hole, before caving in the exit to prevent it's use as an escape (being at the point that they were looking for pockets of resistance and alternate means of escape the Lohrke could have used). Deme was not captured at that point because the engsami that found him were just grunts and weren't aware of how valuable a Nedynvor would be.

ideally I'd be able to get it in printed media, but with the state American comics are currently in, that's kind of a long shot. I'll most likely be resorting to webcomicry, possibly trying to release a print version after/ during that with some extra stuff in it or something. Regardless, when it eventually goes public, I'll be sure to let /quest/ers know, assuming we're all still around then :V

the map posted earlier in this thread is pretty accurate, and much neater looking/ easier to make out than the one I sketched up for my own reference when drawing the quest, with the exception of it missing the admiral's chamber, the Leviathan pit and the docks. As for the perpetually locked door, I never intended for that one to be opened. Behind it is the main living quarters and barracks of the fortress. If I let the characters start wandering around outside of the dungeon area, the quest would have never ended, or come to a very abrupt BAD END D:

>>317525
to be perfectly honest, I never really came up with what he was delivering. But odds are good, it was stolen by the Engsami when he was looted.

I assume this was somewhere else beside the discussion thread? Probably in the actual quest thread where people just skim anything that isn't a quest post.

I apologize if that did happen... now that augmented limb possibility, please tell me that's an acceptable question?
>>
No. 7757 ID: 95ab41

Lohrke limbs don't regenerate. Currently there isn't anyone who can build anything more than a stiff fairly useless limb with just a simple elbow hinge. But Lohrke Technomancy is a rapidly developing thing that is usually spurred to innovation through necessity, so at some point, it's possible he could get an artificial replacement.

How long do they live?

Anyhow, I do suspect that they be using railguns to supplant the lances within a generation or two while everyone else is still getting the hang of cartridge ammunition. It simply seems like a natural progression of their electrical gadgetry.

I could see them minimizing and improving the Shock Lance into some kind of automatic weapon (perhaps pencil sized charged shot.) To cover for the lengthy capacitor charge up and cool down railguns seem to have.
>>

>>317558
Lohrke generally live an average of 80 or so years, some live longer.

I haven't really put much thought into how the Shock Lance will evolve, as the comic I have planned takes place at roughly the same time Journey Quest went on. But I suppose that would be a fairly logical progression.

>>317680
The comic will not directly involve the characters from the quest, but they will be showing up as cameos/ supporting cast for certain segments.

I do have plans for another quest, but it most likely won't be Journey related. I also might end up waiting until March or so to start it, so as not to get myself distracted from working on my Journey comic for my Senior Project this coming school quarter

and second, a short story I wrote for class. Intended as a story a Ploverlor parent might tell their children to make them behave.

The Lazuhrek
The cold wind howled mournfully across the plains. The sun was receding below the distant tree line, and night was quickly setting upon the rolling hills of the marsh. The road cutting through the fields lay barren all along its length leading to the gates of a small little hamlet nestled cozily within the hills. Following the road, the wind blew through the buildings, chilling the stone and rustling the bits of litter clinging helplessly to the nooks and crannies of the alleyways. Windows quickly shut, and shutters slammed by hurried hands seeking to seal their domiciles from the outside world, for very soon night, the dreaded night, would be upon them.
But not everyone in the little hamlet was bustling to seal themselves away, no. One child, a lazy, disobedient little sprat of a child slept, hiding amongst a pile of rubbish behind his house, out by the old tool shed. He would go there every day to avoid detection from his parents, rather than doing his chores. The slamming of shutters, and the calling of his name startled him from his wistful slumber.
“Alan! Alan! Come in, come in this instant! It’s almost night, Alan!” his distressed mother called. Every night, it was the same thing. Alan’s parents close up their home tight, they bring in the animals, they drag in his little sister, and put her to bed at sundown, then nag him to come in and try to put him to bed as well at such an unimaginably early time as sundown. Then, once he and his sister were tucked into their beds, their parents would sit down at the foot of one of their beds and tell them the “reason” for the night time fret, and the early bed times, and Alan would just roll his eyes and blow them off, rolling over and waiting for them to leave. Once the parental figures had left, and gone about their own business, Alan would spring from his bed, still wide awake at such an hour, and jimmy open the shutters over his and his sister’s bedroom window.
“Don’t do that Al! Mom n’ Dad said the Lazuhrek will get you if you’re naughty and stay out late!” his sister would always chime in as he began crawling out onto the drain pipe. Alan would just snort and shoot her such a look that made her cover her face with the sheets.
“There ain’t no ‘Lazuhrek’ and there never was, but I’ll close the shutters back up b’fore I go if you’re such a sissy.” He would sneer at her before swinging the shutters shut once more. He would then go gallivanting around town, unimpeded by any other kids, or even adults, as they are kept themselves locked up at sunset. Alan would continue this pattern every night, returning to this bedroom window, shimmying up the drain pipe, greeted by the startled yelp of his little sister as he clattered against the shutter opening it.
Once again, predictably enough, night came upon the tiny hamlet. Windows and shutters clasped shut, the winds blew through the vacant roads and not a soul was seen under the vigilant watch of the moon high above the land. Save for one soul. Alan strolled through the chilled streets as leisurely as he has for the past several weeks. Alan cavorted down, into an alley, he kicked over a garbage bin and scattered the trash with his feet, chuckling to himself all the while. Suddenly, he froze mid kick, a half eaten fruit rolling down the alley. He whirled around, a startled look on his face.
“Is someone there?” he queried. “Hm… could have sworn I heard something… but no one else has the balls to be out here at this hour.” He shrugged and moved on.
As he emerged from the alley, once more Alan whirled around. “I definitely heard something that time… Where are you!?” he demanded, but got no response, only a faint chittering noise. “Hmph, just some dumb animal.”
It was nearly time for him to return to his bed. Alan began making his way back to his home. The chittering grew louder, but now accompanied by the sounds of claws on the cobblestone streets. Alan’s heart jumped up to his throat when he heard the claws clack right behind him. He took off into a sprint toward his home. As he hopped the fence to his back yard, he looked over his shoulder, and a look of horrified disgust pierced his face. He refused to believe it, it couldn’t have been real, all those little baby stories his parents have been feeding him and his sister were true, the large hairy figure bounding after him couldn’t be anything else. The creature gripped the fence with its mangy hair covered foot, just as a man would with his hand, and vaulted over. He made a mad dash for the tool shed, doubting his ability to climb the drain in time. He threw himself inside and slammed the door shut, barring it with an array of tools. The aging wooden frame of the shed creaked and cracked in the wind. Alan brought his face up to one of the knot-holes that permeated the wooden frame. He saw nothing.
The wooden shed rocked and creaked, loud scratching sounds etched at Alan’s ears like fingernails on a chalkboard. He grabbed a tool, anything he could find with a lengthy handle that could fit through one of the fairly small holes. He frantically looked through the holes until he could see the mangy fur of the beast and jabbed the tool through plunging it into the body of the creature, pulling it back in and trying again, but there was no longer anything there. Alan drew the tool back and peered through the hole once more. He saw nothing but the yard and his house, just a few yards away, but seemed like miles.
The shed began to rock once more, Alan frantically searched the knot-holes for any signs of the monster, but threw himself back against the pile of tools in horror. Through one of the knot-holes, the horrific mangy beast had begun, impossibly, squeezing through, it’s head and neck already in the tool shed, the skin and fur on it’s horribly eyeless head pulled back revealing rows of horrible, sharp, serrated fangs, drooling in anticipation of its next meal, the long nick ridden ears constantly fixated on Alan. He screamed.
The next day, Alan’s sister woke up and wondered why Alan didn’t wake her when he came back last night. The window was open, the curtains wafting in the cool morning breeze like tendrils, reaching out, motioning to the bed across the room. “It’s not like Alan to have left the window open…” she mused to herself. She wandered over to his bed, sleepily rubbing her eyes. “Al? What happened last night?” she sleepily said as she drew back the covers from his bed. A look of horror spread across her face as she did so “MOOOOOM! DAAAAAD!” she screamed, as she started in terror at Alan’s bloody gnawed up shoe lying in his bed.

I'm aware that this post is about a year too late, but I'll post it nonetheless.

I've grown quite interested in nedynvor as a race, and I have a few questions concerning them. Some of these may seem obvious, but I'd rather ask and obvious question and know the answer than to simply assume things.
So:
-Where is the "ear" of a nedynvor? How do they hear?
-What is their secondary air-collection organ called?
-Do they have teeth? How do they get through the exoskeletons of the bugs they eat?
-What does the Great Sky Dragon look like? What is its size?
-Is that fur they're covered in?
-Do they lay eggs, or give live birth?
-Does the number of tail prongs a nedynvor has drastically effect his/her flying or appeal to mates?
-What is the approximate age range of a nedynvor?
-When do they reach maturity? At what age do they learn to fly?
-How often do nedynvor use their tongues to interact with objects (as opposed to using their hands)?
-How does the size of the keratin skull-plate differ from nedynvor to nedynvor? Does it grow with time, or it keep the same proportion as they age?
-considering their inability to handle objects with much finesse, what instruments would a nedynvor play?
-Considering their lack of front teeth, how do nedynvor pronounce sounds like "th", "f", or "v"? Is there a certain nedynvor "accent"?
-Do their internal organs differ drastically from a human's?
-Does the male nedynvor's "finger claw" give them any special position in nedynvor society, such as craftsmen or the like?
-On the subject, what are the nedynvor "crafts" that these kren merchants are so eager to buy? How does one with a hand the size of a table go about crafting anything intricate?
-What type of society do nedynvor have on their island?
-I've been assuming this one, but is the plural form of "nedynvor" simply "nedynvor"?

I'll probably have a few more questions later. If you can answer these, it would be much appreciated. If not, then, well, fuck, I suppose it's my fault for posting this a year late then.

wow, that's a lot of questions outta no where.

>-Where is the "ear" of a nedynvor? How do they hear?
Their ears are located near the base of their head plate, near the organ on the back of their head.

>-What is their secondary air-collection organ called?
I never actually came up with a name for it, I'll have to get back to you on that.

>-Do they have teeth? How do they get through the exoskeletons of the bugs they eat?
Yes, they have teeth, and they crack open hard shells and eat the juicy bug meats inside with tools and their hands, or just eat soft shelled insects.

>-What does the Great Sky Dragon look like? What is its size?
kind of like this http://tgchan.org/kusaba/questdis/src/125697377237.png
It is roughly the size of Rhode Island.

>-Is that fur they're covered in?
Downy feathers.

>-Do they lay eggs, or give live birth?
They lay eggs.

>-Does the number of tail prongs a nedynvor has drastically effect his/her flying or appeal to mates?
It doesn't tend to effect their flight, and appeal to mates would generally depend on an individual's personal taste. Some women like a guy with only 3 prongs compared to 5.

>-What is the approximate age range of a nedynvor?
Nedynvor tend to live 40-50 years, and leave their parent's homes around the age of 8.

>-When do they reach maturity? At what age do they learn to fly?
When they leave their parent's homes and set out on their own, they are considered an adult. They generally are taught to fly around 3 or 4 years, when their feet fully grow in.

>-How often do nedynvor use their tongues to interact with objects (as opposed to using their hands)?
It's not super common. Their tongues were originally used to extend into insect burrows, paralyze, and drag out potential food.

>-How does the size of the keratin skull-plate differ from nedynvor to nedynvor? Does it grow with time, or it keep the same proportion as they age?
It tends to keep the same proportions as they age.

>-considering their inability to handle objects with much finesse, what instruments would a nedynvor play?
I don't really know, honestly. I'm not so well versed in musical instruments.

>-Considering their lack of front teeth, how do nedynvor pronounce sounds like "th", "f", or "v"? Is there a certain nedynvor "accent"?
Who said they don't have front teeth? Did I say that? I don't remember saying that, but I guess I might have at some point? Anyway, if I did, I'm retconning it now and saying that they do have front teeth. There is, however, still a Nedynvor accent, as their mouths are still shaped kinda different than most other species' being a tube and all.

>-Do their internal organs differ drastically from a human's?
They, for the most part, have the same kind of organs, though not necessarily in the same arrangement as humans, due to very different anatomy.

>-Does the male nedynvor's "finger claw" give them any special position in nedynvor society, such as craftsmen or the like?
Not really. It labels them as "male" and thus basically makes them a worker or some manner. Nedynvor society is a matriarchy.

>-On the subject, what are the nedynvor "crafts" that these kren merchants are so eager to buy? How does one with a hand the size of a table go about crafting anything intricate?
Their primary export is maps. Nedynvor are the most renowned cartographers. As well, foods, arts, clothing, basic sort of things like that.

>-What type of society do nedynvor have on their island?
A matriarchy. Females hold the higher offices. Males and females both form the work force and defense militia.

>-I've been assuming this one, but is the plural form of "nedynvor" simply "nedynvor"?
yes.

Alright, a few more questions, mostly just out of mild curiosity this time than a need for facts:

-What would a nedynvor accent sound like?
-What would be considered "fashionable" clothing to a nedynvor? Do they even have "fashion"?
-Do the sharp feet get in the way when putting on clothing, or have they found a way around that?
-Have nedynvor been known to (willingly) consume alcohol or other "questionable" materials?
-What is the nedynvor relationship with the Hat'kal?
-What is the term used to say "having to do with nedynvor"? Nedynvorian? Bit of a mouthful.
-How important is it for a nedynvor to have sharp feet? Is it important (comparable to personal hygiene) or more preferential (like hair length)?
-Does the Great Sky Dragon have any sort of power (besides being the size of Rhode Island), or is he acknowledged like a god simply because of his relationship with the nedynvor?
-What are the other gods' views on the Great Sky Dragon?
-Exactly how long is a fully-grown nedynvor's tongue?
-What kind of armor would a nedynvor wear?
-What are the other races' thoughts on nedynvor? Do they have any natural enemies or allies?

Thank you for the info so far!

>-What would a nedynvor accent sound like?
I'm not really sure, to be honest. I haven't really figured out anything regarding the Nedynvor language (spoken or written) to really decide how it'd effect their speech when speaking in the trade language.

>-What would be considered "fashionable" clothing to a nedynvor? Do they even have "fashion"?
Scarfs are very popular. That's the main one I've established so far.

>-Do the sharp feet get in the way when putting on clothing, or have they found a way around that?
They have a way around cutting up their clothing. Some clothing is designed to accommodate their blade feet, otherwise they just practice not cutting up their clothing, since they live with their blade feet almost their entire lives :V

>-Have nedynvor been known to (willingly) consume alcohol or other "questionable" materials?
Yes, I don't see why not.

>-What is the nedynvor relationship with the Hat'kal?
They don't really interact that much. The Ashom-Ashe empire has plans to eventually attempt to take the Sky Dragon for themselves, but it's not a priority target. Otherwise, any Nedynvor living in cities or villages in the path of the Ashom-Ashe warmachine will be assimilated or killed just like everyone else.

>--What is the term used to say "having to do with nedynvor"? Nedynvorian? Bit of a mouthful.
Probably just "Nedynvor"

>-How important is it for a nedynvor to have sharp feet? Is it important (comparable to personal hygiene) or more preferential (like hair length)?
It's an usually an important hygiene thing.

>-Does the Great Sky Dragon have any sort of power (besides being the size of Rhode Island), or is he acknowledged like a god simply because of his relationship with the nedynvor?
It's extremely humongous, and flies through a means that no one can adequately explain. Aswell, it seems to provide for the Nedynvor living on its back.

>-What are the other gods' views on the Great Sky Dragon?
The gods in Layridin aren't believed to interact with each other unless they are grouped into a single collective pantheon, like the one the Hat'kal have assembled.

>-Exactly how long is a fully-grown nedynvor's tongue?
An adult Nedynvor's tongue can be up to 5 feet in length.

>-What kind of armor would a nedynvor wear?
Most of the time, light armor that wouldn't inhibit their flying capability to much.

>-What are the other races' thoughts on nedynvor? Do they have any natural enemies or allies?
A lot of people in Layridin have never actually seen a Nedynvor. They usually tend to keep to their own island. As was mentioned in Journey Quest, some people would pay handsomely for a Nedynvor slave, as they are quite rare and exotic finds on the surface world. Mountain Lazurek find them a little disappointing due to their size and relative frailty. Otherwise, most people just treat them how they generally just treat any other members of other races. Thus, it'd probably vary from city to city, or person to person.

Usually I'd stop asking so many questions at this point, but:

-What is the height and weight of an average nedynvor? Do the males and females have any significant size differences?
-Do the nedynvor have their own form of "technology"?
-What is the approximate strength of a nedynvor (about how much weight could one lift above his head)?
-What level of areal maneuverability do nedynvor possess? How quickly can they turn or stop?
-Do the nedynvor utilize any other weapons besides their feet?
-Does nedynvor society have any special laws? What is the nedynvor "punishment" system for said laws?
-Do all nedynvor eat bugs raw, or do some prepare the food before eating?
-Are nedynvor capable of eating foods of the earth-bound races, or are they limited to bugs?
-Do nedynvor have a cuisine parallel to candy?
-On the note of candy, considering tongue length, how many licks do you think it would take a nedynvor to get to the center of a tootsie pop?

And one request: could you draw a smiling nedynvor? I'm still curious to the nature of nedynvor teeth.

Again, thank you for the info so far!

>-How does an infant nedynvor break out of his/her egg? Do they have some sort of "egg tooth" to break the shell before their legs grow in?
They have a boney stub at the end of their leg that will eventually grow into their feet that they use to punch through their shells.

>-What I meant by "what kind of armor would a nedynvor wear", was "what would nedynvor armor look like?"
Um, I don't really know. I've never designed any so far. I would guess Nedynvor armor belonging to those on the island would look like it was made from either cloth, or parts of insects/ large worm creatures or something.

>-How does a nedynvor hold a pencil for map drawing? Do they have their own type of writing utensil?
They still have fingers and an opposable thumb and are able to grasp things. They just generally use a larger pencil, pen, or brush when drawing/ writing.

>-What would be considered nedynvor "table manners"? Do they have a certain type of etiquette?
Never extend your tongue to another person's dish, do not handle utensils with one's tongue, keep one's wingmits close to their sides at all times while eating (this is mostly to avoid buffeting neighbors while dining).

>-What silverware would a nedynvor use? Do they even have silverware?
They use pretty standard silverware, sized up a bit in the handle department to accommodate their large wingmits.

>-What does nedynvor architecture look like?
For the most part, kind of like a Hobbit hole, but often times with a structure like a windmill extending from the top. At least on the Sky Dragon island.

>-Do the nedynvor "air gills" inhale oxygen like lungs, or is it similar to a shark where they need air actively flowing over them to work?
They inhale, kind of like a series of nostrils along the back of their head.

>-Can nedynvor close their "air gills" at will (besides by tilting their head back)?
Yes, they can clench the openings shut.

>-Does the male index finger have 2 or 3 phalanges?
2

>-Are the fingers of a nedynvor covered in the same feathers as the rest of their body, or is there a notable difference?
No, the wide fingers are toughened bare skin.

>-Two of the five fingers of a male nedynvor are located below the thumb, I've noticed. Do they use these fingers for anything, or are they simply vestigial digits?
The two "fingers" located further down their arm are vestigial.

>-Does nedynvor society have a particular currency?
Nedynvor currency is metal slabs similar to old oriental style "coins" called "Counn." It is only used on their island, and even then, the Kren have begun the process of attempting to assimilate them into their global currency plans.

>-What are a few of the species of bugs that nedynvor eat?
That's still kind of mutable/ unknown. I've still hardly come up with the native fauna in Layridin. So I'm open for ideas for creepy crawlies.

>-What traits would be seen as "desirable" in a nedynvor?
On males, the plummage, how well their feet are taken care of, and sometimes size of their finger claw are all fairly common desirable traits.
Females, their crest (both size and number of protrusions can factor in), wings, and body type (some male nedynvors may very well not like their woman to have large hips the weirdos

>-What would an "ugly" nedynvor look like? A "handsome" one?
That kind of depends on personal preference I would think.

>-Do nedynvor have any way of gaining altitude while flying?
Once air-borne, they can flap their wings to gain altitude in bursts, just like a bird.

>-Can nedynvor whistle?
Some, but not all.

>-Do nedynvor record any history of their kind?
Yes they do.

>-On that note, are there any notable or "heroic" nedynvor historical figures?
I'm sure there are, but I haven't come up with any at this point in time yet.

>-What is the height and weight of an average nedynvor? Do the males and females have any significant size differences?
Nedynvor average between 7-8 feet tall. I'm pretty terrible at determining what would be a logical height to weight ratio. Females are noticeably taller than the males.

>-Do the nedynvor have their own form of "technology"?
Nedynvor are about on par with the majority of the world technologically. It's the Lohrke that are really ahead of the game in that area.

>-What is the approximate strength of a nedynvor (about how much weight could one lift above his head)?
This would also kind of vary depending on the individual. I guess an average Nedynvor would about on par with an average human. They have fairly brittle bones, so they can't put to much stress on themselves or they risk severe injury.

>-What level of areal maneuverability do nedynvor possess? How quickly can they turn or stop?
I personally, imagined them as moving very much like a Seagull when in the air.

>-Do the nedynvor utilize any other weapons besides their feet?
Yes, one weapon I had toyed with the concept of for a Nedynvor was a tonfa-like blade that went along their wing. They'll also use standard bladed type weaponry. Though everything they use has an extended hilt. (the Shock Cudgel is a 2-handed Lorhke weapon. Deme wielded it in one hand)

>-Does nedynvor society have any special laws? What is the nedynvor "punishment" system for said laws?
They do have laws. I'm not terribly sure what they all are just yet, however. Punishment for grievous laws is banishment from the island.

>-Do all nedynvor eat bugs raw, or do some prepare the food before eating?
Yes, they do cook and prepare food. Usually visitors to the island can't possibly stomach the idea of Nedynvor cuisine prior to it's preparation.

>-Are nedynvor capable of eating foods of the earth-bound races, or are they limited to bugs?
Nedynvor are insectivores. They can't really stomach most other forms of food. The bright side of this is that insects are pretty much everywhere. Some may have a stonger stomach than others, though, and might even enjoy the occasional exotic cuisine. But if they ate just that, they would become malnourished and eventually die.

>-Do nedynvor have a cuisine parallel to candy?
Yes they do. The Raudom moth excretes a fine silk, that when prepared with certain ingredients is very sweet and pleasing to even non Nedynvor palettes.

>-On the note of candy, considering tongue length, how many licks do you think it would take a nedynvor to get to the center of a tootsie pop?
Does wrapping the whole thing with their tongue count as one, or multiple licks? The world may never know.

what're you doing with these anyway? If you don't mind me asking.

>-What is the breeze like on the Great Dragon?
While in flight, the winds are very strong.

>-How do nedynvor raise their children?
Children are home schooled, taught to fly, defend themselves, and taught the family trade in the roughly 8 years before setting out on their own.

>-Which parent nurses the child?
The male usually does the majority of the raising.

>-Do nedynvor marry?
Yes. No, I don't actually have a Nedynvor wedding ceremony thought up or anything.

>-Can other races survive on the Great Dragon?
By the time the Great Dragon reaches it's final altitude, the air is to thin for most surface dwellers to survive.

>-How much weight can a nedynvor carry before it starts drastically effecting his/her flight?
They need to keep any loads they carry with them light if they plan to do any flying. a load much greater than, say, an Adventurer's Pack would probably begin to interfere with their flight capabilities, certainly over long distance.

>-How do nedynvor access the metal they use for counn? Is it simply mined from the Great Dragon?
The metal seems to be a naturally occurring feature in the lower layers of the crust on the Sky Dragon's back.

>-How thick is the crust of earth on top of the Great Dragon?
Several hundred feet.

>-Are there any plants that grow specifically on the Great Dragon?
Yes, but I haven't actually come up with the specific ones yet.

>-What do nedynvor use the house-windmills for?
For milling stuff. Making bread, grinding spice, grinding bugs, manufacturing trade goods, etc.

>-Considering the downy feathers, are nedynvor particularly flammable? Would this get in the way of forging counn or other metal items?
Not really anymore flammable than most birds.

>-Obscure question: do nedynvor eat ants? If so, do they catch them in a manner similar to anteaters?
Ants don't really technically exist in the settings, but they would eat an equivalent, and yes, they might, if necessary resort to eating them like an anteater/ pangolin.

>Personal Question: Are you open to ideas for questions you haven't been sure about so far?
Couldn't hurt.

Wait, they mine the Great Dragon's crust? How do they know what depth to stop mining? Are there mining accidents where they jab a pickaxe into the dragon?

I find the fact that there's metal on its back to be kinda weird. I mean, it's not like you can just dump sand and dirt on something for centuries and have ore show up. Wouldn't there need to be some sort of seismological or volcanic activity going on to deposit metal ore?

It could be that the ore is simply the shed scales from the dragon itself, both explaining its frequency and depth.

>-How good are nedynvor at climbing?
They are quite good at climbing.

>-How well can nedynvor dig through dirt?
Not very well without tools.

>-Would a nedynvor have a good singing voice?
Possibly. That really depends on the one singing, and the person listening.

>-Do nedynvor dance? If so, is there anything special to it?
Yes they do. It involves light graceful leg movements with big sweeping motions of their wings and neck movements.

>What kind of bread is it? Does it support their insectivore palate?
The most common bread they make involves grinding up bugs or worms into the dough. It's known as Grub Bread on the surface, and is considered an exotic delicacy that many people don't even want to try.

>-For making bread, do they harvest grains, or do they have their own type of "bugbread"?
They harvest grains as well as mash bugs up in it.

>-What is the temperature like on the Great Sky Dragon?
It varies, usually very frequently. They don't really experience any kind of set seasons as the Sky Dragon rarely ever follows the exact same path across the sky each year.

>-How high does the Great Dragon fly?
Several miles. I don't know exactly how high.

>-How far (or long) can an average nedynvor fly before having to rest?
On average, they can fly for a few hours before requiring a landing, depending on air currents.

>-What is the value of counn? How many counn would it take to buy a loaf of bread?
1 Counn = ~.7 Guild Marks (Kren international currency). 1 loaf of Grub bread would normally cost around 3 Counn.

>-How fast are nedynvor on foot?
Slightly below human average, proportionately (they are quite a bit taller with long legs).

>-Do nedynvor keep pets?
Yes.

>-What would be considered a feat of areal prowess for a nedynvor? (So I can get a grasp on their flying capabilities)
I'm not really. Aerial combat in general would be viewed as a very impressive feat. Sharp angle turns, especially vertically, might also impress.

>-Is a nedynvor egg fertilized before or after it is laid?
Before.

>-How well can nedynvor swim?
Depends on the Nedynvor, but most all of them are naturally buoyant due to their light bodies.

>-Do nedynvor have lips?
not really, no.

>-Do nedynvor have any special greeting? (parallel to shaking hands/hugging and the such)
Nedynvor perform a one arm/ wing hug as a means of greeting.

>-What would be a few curses or exclamations said solely by nedynvor?
I wouldl ove to answer this, but I haven't come up with anything for the Nedynvor language, really, and would probably want to give the untranslated version along with a translated one. "Son of a liege" is still used by Nedynvor, as sometimes the island gets a few of those filthy creatures infesting it. Otherwise, I haven't thought of any interesting cusses for them.

>-Do nedynvor make soup/stew?
Yes.

>-Are there any other non-insect creatures that live on the Great Dragon? Have any other species adapted to the altitude?
Yes, many of which I haven't gotten around to designing or even conceptualizing yet :V

>-What are the properties of this "Sky Metal" found on the Great Dragon?
It is hard, lightweight, but more brittle than iron or steel, so it doesn't make the best weapons or armor. The metal is indeed shed scales of the Great Sky Dragon.

>-What would the relative stamina of a nedynvor be? Can they outlast a human?
Outlast a human doing what? Running? Flying? Having relations?

>-We know few residents of the world have actually seen a nedynvor, but what do the nedynvor know about the rest of the world and the races living on it?
Many of them have never actually seen the other races, except for the Kren. The ones that never leave the island only ever see members of the other species that come to the island during the month it rests in the ocean, and thus have nothing to go by other than stories (That Ploverlor story about the Jungle Lazurek basically being a boogey-man has reached the island, so for some of them, that's the image they have of Jungle Lazureks)

HEY IMMA BUMP DIS

What are some guidelines for names for these races? We haven't heard all that many names for lazurek. None at all for river/mountain varieties, in fact. Do those have different naming styles? I'm curious about Lohrke and Nedynvor names too.
>>

>>355057
I'm only several months late with replying to this, whatever.

>Can a nedynvor outlast a human at running?
No, Nedynvor are pretty poorly constructed for running. They can cover some pretty good distance and last a while with floaty, loping, wing-assisted strides, but a straight up run, they would, on average, not be able to out last a human.

>Do nedynvor wear hats?
Yes.

>What is the average wingspan of a nedynvor?
an average wingspan for a Nedynvor of Deme's height would be around 13 feet wide from finger to finger.

>What is the average IQ of nedynvor?
About on par with humans.

>How does water get onto the Great Dragon? Does it rain?
Storms are brief but frequent on the Sky Dragon as it crosses the sky. Additionally, pools of clean water seem to well up from certain locations on it's back.

>Do nedynvor use any grooming utensils? If so, what are they?
Yes. Common utensils include a sort of whet stone, used on the feet, a sort of towel used to keep their head plate clean, a brush that resembles a pipe cleaner for their teeth, and a pick to help prune/ straighten their feathers.

>Can nedynvor click their tongues?
Uh... I wanna say, yes?

>How well can nedynvor pick up scent?
Due to the peculiar arrangement for their olfactory senses and being combined with their air-gill, they are not particularly adept at picking up, or tracking by scent.

>How good is nedynvor memory compared to humans?
Nedynvor have decent short term memory, but poor long term.

>What games do nedynvor play?
I haven't, at the present date, come up with any particular sort of games played in Layridin. Sorry.

>What color are the Great Dragon's scales?
Dark shades of grey. They basically resemble rocks.

>Do nedynvor get motion sickness?
I'm sure some do, but not from the general motions of the Sky Dragon. Maybe from any turbulence during flight.

>Do nedynvor have particularly keen eyes?
Nedynvor eyes can spot a Lohrke sized creature from several hundred feet in the air. A small creature like a Mundu worm would not be as easily spotted from high up, obviously.

>Can a nedynvor take off from a standstill, or do they need a running start?
Nedynvor actually require a high up point to jump off of to get themselves into the air. They are adept climbers, which allows them to find a spot to leap or drop from.

>What eye colors do nedynvor have?
Most tend to be earthy tones; brown, dark brown, yellow, etc. On rare occasion you might see one with blue eyes.

>Do any nedynvor differ in feather color?
Nedynvor tend to have white, grey, or shades of brown colors for their feathers, with bright, vibrant colors on their plumage. Nedynvor can actually have varying combinations of these feather colors. Not all of them are a solid color like Deme was.

>What materials do nedynvor use to build their windmills?
Trees grow on the back of the Sky Dragon, so wood and "stones" taken from the dragon's back tend to make up the bulk of the windmill construction materials. Like the Nedynvor houses, though, the windmills tend to be built into ground mounds at the base.

>What uses (besides currency) would the skymetal be particularly useful for?
Weapons and armor, as the metal feels unnaturally light, though less durable than hardened steel. Some metal frequently finds its way into building material as well, being used in the frame work for windmills, windows, doors, etc.

>What pets do nedynvor keep?
Various types of birds, not many creatures can really function on the sky dragon at full altitude. Some even keep larger insects as pets, though in troubling times, they might run into problems with pet nappers wanting to eat them.

>Are there any diseases or illnesses unique to the nedynvor?
Wing Rot is an infection that causes the skin on a Nedynvor's wings to wither. Their feathers begin falling out, and the flesh on their fingers begins to wither and recede, making the finger bones visible. This impairs their ability to fly, obviously. It can be treated, but it takes several weeks for the wings to recover.
Geppaner's Tongue is named after the Nedynvor who discovered this disease. It causes a Nedynvor's tongue to swell up several times the size of normal along several feet of it's length. This results in the Nedynvor having to extend their tongue and not be able to retract it, or else it might block off their throat causing them to suffocate. As well it impairs their ability to hunt and eat. There is a cure for this disease.

>How far can the average nedynvor throw a fist-sized rock?
Several yards

>What are a few stereotypical nedynvor names?
Demesi, Ashedel, Dofanon, Trepano, Huperna, Letano, Obamit. All names are then followed by "of [City of origin]" such as Demesi of Angoldas.

>How do you pronounce Demesi anyway?
"Deh-messy"

>>355122
>Do nedynvor believe in an "afterlife" after they are fed to the Great Dragon? Is reincarnation an idea in their culture?
Yes, reincarnation is a thing in their culture.

>Are there any days that nedynvor hold in particularly high regard besides the Dragon's month of rest?
Yes. There is a series of days in which the Nedynvor celebrate their believed origin. Over the course of these 5 days they feast, hold festivals, and exchange gifts.

>Is there such thing as nedynvor religious garb?
Yes. At some point I may even design it :V

>What is the approximate population of nedynvor on the Great Dragon?
roughly 800,000 Nedynvor live on the back of the Great Sky Dragon.

>This is a silly question, but are there any nedynvor that worship other deities?
Yes, but pretty much all Nedynvor still view the Sky Dragon as their creator.

>Is there any chance we could see what a baby nedynvor would look like?
I'll try and post something to answer this tomorrow after I've slept.

sorry for the delay in answering these, hope you didn't lost interest in the down time.

A lot of the races I just put in some real world equivalent to base their naming style off of. For example; Hat'kal have vaguely Aztec sounding names.
Mountian Lazurek have Nordic sounding names arranged with their clan name first, then first name, then family name.
River Lazurek have Germanic sounding names and are arranged “First name - Tribe name - Family name.” For example: Stitzend Din Rhass.
Engsami have vaguely Middle Eastern or Persian sounding names.
Kren names tend to be somewhat difficult to pronounce with a human mouth, with hard clicking sounds, and apostrophes. They usually have some manner of nick name that is far easier to pronounce for their friends and customers, usually somehow linked to their real name. Example: Chet’threktch’chka is shortened to “Chet.”
Lohrke names vary widely, but all have the same sort of structure; First name – Prefix denoting their working caste ‘ Family name. For example: Tav Unt’bel, “Tav” is his first name, “Unt” is the prefix denoting that he is a soldier, and “bel” is his family name. Another example is Tav’s cousin, Marana Tok’bel.
Ploverlor have vaguely Irish sounding names.
Tomias tend to have names similar to Native Americans. They sound more impressive in their native tongue, but when translated into Trade, they sound similar to “Dances With Clouds” or “Hearer of Winds” for example.
For Nedynvor, truthfully, I either use a fantasy name generator or just sort of hit keys on the keyboard and sound it out as I go. Then add "of [city of origin]" at the end.
And for Jungle Lazurek, I never really figured out any sort of real world equivalent to base their names off of considering the two I've named; Aggeia Snoow, and Cevel Latobo. I think Aggeia came from a name generator, and Cevel was just something I made up on the spot.

hope that helps

Hey I just finished going through this entire discussion after reading the story, and was wondering a few things too.

-How do you pronounce Nedynvor?
-What are the Nedynvor' legs made out of? Is it bone?
-How dense are their legs compared to their bones if they are?
-How do their legs grow? They whet or sharpen their legs and is a regular thing so they have to regenerate somehow.
-How did you come up with the idea of bladed legs?
-How did you come up with the name of the Nedynvor species?
-Do they have reproductive organs like most birds with a cloaca?
-Have they used their blade legs for fighting for mates before they became civilized? What kind of history do they have? Has there been any wars within the Nedynvor?
-Do they do leg fencing of some kind for entertainment?

By name of the species I meant, how did you come up with the word Nedynvor?

I'm not surprised about all the leg questions. You don't see Swordfeet every day! They must be dangerous dance partners!

Are mountain Lazurheks friendly? They look very scary, but having one as a big brother who can give me piggybacks would be awesome! ^.V.^

>How do you pronounce Nedynvor?
Ned-in-vore
>What are the Nedynvor' legs made out of? Is it bone?
Well, their legs are made of bones and meat, like most living things. Their blade feet are made of a short extension of bone near the ankle and keratin, like hooves or antlers.
>How dense are their legs compared to their bones if they are?
The keratin blades are dense, to support the weight of the body on such, otherwise, tiny points.
>How do their legs grow? They whet or sharpen their legs and is a regular thing so they have to regenerate somehow.
A Nedynvor's blades continue to grow, just like a human's finger nails or a deer's antlers. Regular maintenance is required to keep the blades from becoming to long and keep them from becoming to dull.
>How did you come up with the idea of bladed legs?
Jehuty from Zone of the Enders
>How did you come up with the name of the Nedynvor species?
I actually don't know if I remember anymore. I think for Nedynvor I just did my method of hitting random keys on the keyboard and sounding it out as I went.
>Do they have reproductive organs like most birds with a cloaca?
As some people in the IRC know, I actually don't put a lot of thought, generally, into the reproductive organs of my species because it rarely, if ever, comes up in my stories. But, in the one porn picture I drew of a female Nedynvor, I did not give them a cloaca. Though they do lay eggs.
>Have they used their blade legs for fighting for mates before they became civilized? What kind of history do they have? Has there been any wars within the Nedynvor?
Yes, their blade legs were used much in the same way deer or mountain goats and such use their antlers or horns to compete for mates or territory. The Nedynvor have always lived on the back of the Great Sky Dragon. Yes, there have been multiple wars amongst the Nedynvor, most contained within the island. In recent times, there haven't been any outright wars breaking out on the island, though there was a conflict that erupted involving the Nedynvor off the island.
>Do they do leg fencing of some kind for entertainment?
Some cities on the island still have a form of dueling involving their foot blades. They refer to it as "Blade Dancing" and is very similar to fencing, actually. It is commonly used as a form of settling matters of honor, or intense arguments, and is on occasion fatal.

Mountain Lazureks have varying personalities. Mountain Lazurek societies put a heavy influence on strength and an impressive display of strength and fighting prowess could get non mountain lazureks inducted as official "brothers in arms" into the clan. There are certainly some friendly mountain lazureks scattered about the societies.

Oh, hey I came up with Macifayo the same way. It's pronounced Mac-i-fay-oh (short i sound after mac, like in ick). I did a google search after to make sure it wasn't used.

I don't know where to find that but there were some of Demesi with... something more mammalian done by Queblock on Furaffinity.

Thanks for responding to my questions ^^;

Do the Nedynvor on the Great Sky Dragon have a formal system to convey the landing location of the Dragon to those Nedynvor on the ground who wish to return?
Also, does the Great Sky Dragon always land in the same time period every year?

I was thinking that those Nedynvor who wish to return would gather in coastal settlements and major cities when the Great Sky Dragon's landing time is near. When the Dragon lands, Nedynvor messengers would spread out to the towns and cities within two weeks travel of the Dragon, relaying the location to the Nedynvor on the ground.

yeah, Queblock is my secret furaffinity name that I use to hide my porn from potential employers. The female Nedynvor porn can be found on that gallery as well.

>>361412
The Nedynvor on the Sky Dragon don't really do anything special, other than brace themselves and their belongings during landing procedure. It's basically up to the Nedynvor to keep an eye out for when the Dragon begins to decent below the clouds and try to calculate it's trajectory, relaying information via messenger to others. Alternatively, they can get the information from the Kren who keep close tabs on when and where the Sky Dragon looks to be landing. It tends to land roughly around the same time, give or take a week or two, which can gradually throw it off, making it land in a different month. As well, sometimes it may even wake up early.

Why do Lorkhe have such huge feet?.......Sorry, I honestly could not think of anything else to ask. In all honesty though, it must be hard to sneak when your footfalls must make more noise then the gear you carry.
>>

On the contrary, huge feet would help you sneak better, as the greater surface area reduces pounds per square inch. Twigs are far less likely to snap under a Lohrke foot. Also, when placing your foot on the ground, you don't put all your weight down at once while sneaking. With a larger foot, this is easier and smoother.

I suppose the large feet would make it harder to traverse difficult terrain, if it weren't for the sticky grabby qualities of Lohrke soles. A real disadvantage would be the extra muscle mass required to move around such ungainly lower limbs- I bet they aren't very agile!

This is all conjecture of course. I wonder how close I am to Lucid's take on things?

The main reason they have such big feet is to increase the area they have contacting surfaces giving them better stability when they're wall/ ceiling walking around. The sticky deedlybobs on the bottom of their feet provide a sort of cushion which muffles their foot falls slightly, and since they pretty much always walk around barefoot, the don't make as much noise as someone tromping around in boots or shoes.

And yes, you're actually pretty close to my original intent, and I didn't see Lohrke as being particularly agile.

Is it just me, or do Lohrke use up a lot of energy? From powering the light-emitting reactions in their glowy bits, and in creating and secreting the glue from their feet and tail, it seems like they'd need a lot of protien. Does anyone have any thoughts on the matter?
>>

How to the Lorkhe handle grime buildup on the sticky bits of their feet and tails? Is it handled by their secretions pushing the grime off, or does it build up to be a hygienic concern, or even interfere with their adhesive abilities?

Phosphoresce doesn't consume protein, just calories, and since it's "cold light" I imagine not much. As for their wallhax, welcome to the wonderful world of van der Waals forces. No glue needed. Also magic.

the sticky secretion from their tail and feet isn't always being pumped out at all times, they can control it. It does cause a build up of debris in their little wigglers that line the appendages, and maintenance of that is important. If something it organic and gets stuck up in there long enough, it may be dissolved and consumed, as they can still eat through their feet/ tail like they did as babies, though they don't gain as much from it as they do from eating normally.

>>361689
Somewhere in one of the Inside the Quest threads, someone asked Tav about that. When he shows up in the comic (if it ever actually gets beyond page 2) he's going to have an experimental prosthetic. There's a concept design for it in the ITQ thread somewhere.

It'd be easier to lace Lorkhe absorb-able organic dust with powerful poison, then spread it around in their path. The dust gets stuck in the wrigglers, consumed, and kills the Lorkhe or makes it ill.
