The air today is thick in Moot Point. Fog creeps through the streets, rising into alleyways as if the harbor itself was making an effort to fill the city. On the far cliff above, Augustine Moot looms; her sword lit with a powerful magelight lantern to warn sailors of the rocks below.

His fist comes down suddenly. “I can smell the lichfire on you, boy! I did not wait five hundred years and- and- and travel to the edge of the world and back for a thin dribble of a story.” His face contorts with grief, shaking his head in exasperation. "In all that time I have heard nothing, and then a sign in the sky draws me to a town built in the shadow of that woman!" His fist hits the table again. "I must have answers!"

Ok, he wants a bit more of a story, not information. Take it from the top, man. Rumours, call to adventure, mysterious handsome fisherman, attempt to help, tragic story, daring never-before-done lich possession, et cetera.

Oh. Okay... well, warn him ahead of time that the lich probably isn't anyone he knows, but if he still wants the story then you'll tell him more. Only thing we really need to omit is the sex scene.

If he's looking for someone he's lost contact with then we could try finding them?

Apologies. You can go in greater detail but omit names. When the story is done, you can ask him why the hostility for Augustine Moot.

Alright, so it looks like maybe WE don't necessarily know enough of the circumstances here. We can absolutely give a more elaborate telling, but that is essentially the tale in summary, after all -- huge outpouring of lich energies once a spirit moved on of their own accord and relinquished that power.

But ... why does the statue of someone matter?

I suppose what we need to ask is who she was, and why. This harkens all the way back to the wars, I suspect.

"It's simple: a champion-class Pirate Captain contracted a fatal disease while adventuring, turned into a Lich, and decided his reputation (and marriage) was more important than becoming an unstoppable murder god. He did the lichfire thing because he didn't know it was more than sparkly theater lights.

As for Augustine, we keep her giant anti-magical statue because it attracts all the merchants to our city. Your giant dog is kind of the inverse, brings your city to the merchants instead.

This is a big city with millions of mortals and we would really appreciate it if you didn't stomp on everyone."

...it occurs to me that he cannot lie with his words, but he can lie with his face and actions. He might even be able to lie with his inflections. They're part of speech, but so long as the words are true it's fine, right?

At this point I don't think he's here to deceive, but he might do so to smear the name of those he dislikes, or even just out of habit.
If we suspect deception, we can just ask him to explain his feelings through words, and confirm important facts in a straightforward way. I don't object to anything he's saying or implying just yet... but after the story, we could ask why the lichfire beacon was important to him?

He's searching for someone particular!
It wasn't even a woman who was the lich, though.
Just an old sailor who stuck around for too long.
An old sailor man at that.

The statue is of one Augustine Moot, assumed founder of our current home of Moot Point. What she did to gain a grudge from this devil is unknown though. He'd want to share it with you, at the least.

Kol should comfort him: it seems he is only here because of an "accident of Fates" unrelated to his circumstances. The important part is no one who lives in Moot Point now should get hurt over history long past.

Tell him honestly that you truly don't think this is the same person. You don't see how it could be. They were a sailor, held back from death by love, kept from hungering life and empowered through aid most inventive. The beacon was a sign to your Sender, so he could nail down the location and come back aboard the boat.

Your reluctance to share the tale is a mere matter of privacy and in no way intended as an attempt to obfuscate the truth. If pressed, you could tell the tale in exhausting - and embarassing - detail, but for now he may know that the lich's name was Adrian.

When this inevitably disappoints them, offer to help. If the town's founder has past history with him and his quarry - his lost patron, you guess? - then perhaps he could tell you of it and you could investigate on his behalf if any clues remain here. It may be for the best that he receive aid. There are many souls on this barrow that seem in need of some kind of resolution to their limbo, so you'd be happy to help answer the question of their lost lord.

You'd rather not have another war, though.

Speaking of which, you know of someone who will insist - with frightening ferocity - that a historical account of the war and the times be written down by, er, 'living' witnesses. Is this something that can be arranged?
>>
No. 922995 ID: 2007b6

I can give you better answers if you make it clearer what you really want to know.
>Who was he?
Adrian, captain of the Sea Scar.
>What affairs?
Marriage to a selkie.
>Why the beacon?
To help targeting a portal onto the ship.
>I can smell the lichfire on you, boy!
For one reason or another we end up having sex with nearly everyone we've come to help, often as a key part of solving their problem. It's a sorta weird, embarrassing specialty to have, as a team of spirit guides, but there's no arguing with success.

In that particular case, the lich was possessing me as part of an effort to reconstruct damaged memories and locade his husband's missing skin.

“Oh… Sorry, its just that some of the story… well, its gets rather… well, intimate. The spirit was a sailor, a rabbit named Adrian. His husband, Caleb, had given him mana oil to make him more powerful and keep him from fading away. However, his husband was a selkie, and he needed help uncovering where his skin was hidden.” Kol sits down. “Adrian used his lichfire to make a beacon so that one of my partners could find his way back to the ship. Then I allowed him to occupy my body so that we could search for it.”

Rodwin searches the Medium’s eyes for any hint of deception and sighs, resting his horned head in his hands. “Root and Stone, it was all for nothing... I’m a fool to have hoped for a sign.” He lifts his head. “But who is that sculpture for? Who is that woman?”

Kol scratches his head, “That’s Augustine Moot: founder of the city. She also created the Order of the Senders. There’s a school up on the hill above the city. I know a bit about her but my partner, Gabe, would be the one to ask. He's a Sender as well.” His ears perk up. “Why? What happened between you two?”

The fey swallows, as though tasting bitter memories. “I only ever saw her once. She appeared out of thin air in Lord Hekal’s throne room, wearing a long red cloak and wielding a sword made of light. As a duelist I placed myself between her and my lord, but she aimed her blade at me and suddenly I was... somewhere else.”

“By the time I returned they were both gone...” he bows his head and closes his eyes. “To once again be... stripped away from someone I was supposed to protect... it was the greatest insult. I vowed to find them no matter how long it took." Rodwin grits his teeth and continues, "When my body failed me, I sealed it with an ancient binding spell and became one with the land itself. But… as the tides of mana ebbed, I was forced to take my search northward and wait for a sign..."

"Uh huh. Well, you of all people know what it's like to be remembered for something you didn't do. Same goes for Augustine, apparently. She might be a hero but the church has discredited all her 'violent' adventures of glory and conquest in favor of "all loving hero who sliced the boundaries between people" and whatever else they want to claim she did.

You should correct them in person.

And Augustine was a portal queen? Gabe's going to love that."

Ask when this was exactly. If it was just before Moot Point was first saved... I wonder if Lord Hekal cooperated with her somehow to make the portal and save the town? Like, by possessing her and using his massive mana pool to augment her skills as a Sender? That would be quite the twist!

Regardless, tell him you plan to find out what happened. I'm sure historians will arrive within the next week or so to interview his servants and possibly also himself. They might have some relevant information for him, or at least an avenue of investigation. Before then we can do some research ourselves to see if there is some hint as to the fate of Lord Hekal.

...how did Lord Hekal retain his memories as a lich, anyway? Was he not a lich as we know them, but some other form of supernatural immortal?

Seems like a very reasonable question, and while we haven't got a complete answer handy we'd certainly know where to go to look it up. You've been waiting half a millennium already, now that the end's in sight, a few more hours should be no big deal, right? Let's park the fog-dog somewhere safe and out of the way, have Gabe drop a beacon here in the throne room, and check in with Cecil Ocher and/or whoever's in charge of historical archives at the Order of Senders. Surely they'd have some sort of comprehensive account of their founder's adventures on hand.

“My partners and I might be able to help. We have access to archives and historical records about Madam Moot. Let us search for you.”

“I... I would like to trust you on that. Unfortunately I don’t know how long I can sustain myself...” Rodwin shakes his head. “The mana here is so weak...”

“Just give us time. Can you rest the bargast somewhere nearby that won’t... you know... crush anyone?”

The devil is silent while he thinks, opening his eyes to fix Kol with his gaze. “I will give you one year to find out what happened. If in that time you cannot give me an answer, I will continue my search through other means.” His claw thunks heavily into the table, punctuating his decision.

“This sounds like we’re making a deal, right? You stay put for a year, and we find out what happened to Lord Hekal. If we don’t, then...?” The question hangs in the air on silk strings of hope.

Rodwin sighs, “I don’t know... I’m no longer bound by fae law, this isn’t a binding pact. I’m saying that if I cannot find answers in one year, my... condition will force me to find another arrangement. If what you say is true, then you and your comrades are my best hope of uncovering the truth.” The devil’s eyes narrow into thin, gleaming slits. “But if I sense that you’re manipulating me, keeping me from the truth, or attempting to seal me away... I will raise this city and anything bearing her likeness.”

Kol slowly nods, one year being longer than he had hoped but nevertheless, worryingly short. He asks, “One thing that might help: you said this was five hundred years ago? Can you be more specific?”

“Five hundred and thirty years, during mid-autumn. We had just returned from a campaign on the Plains of Dawn.” He waves a hand, “Sir Opinel will assist you with the details if you need.”

“Can we come back to speak with you?”

Rodwin raises an eyebrow, “You’ve earned that right, I suppose. You may come and go as long as the bargast is not damaged.”

Tell him you will do your honest best. In fact, does he want regular updates? You can't promise steady progress but you can still tell him how things are going.
As for his mana problem, would mana oil help?

Oh and you usually get paid for jobs. Will he pay you for your work, once you're done? If not I guess we could try to persuade the local government to give a reward for "defending the city".

So far he has been a rather kind host. It's only appropriate to thank him and promise to do our best to uncover what happened that day.

>raise this city
Pretty sure you mean "raze" as in demolish, not raise as in elevate.

Mana oil is worth considering, but remember our goal here is to lay the dead to rest, in order to prevent spiritual environmental damage, not necessarily to give them everything they want.

Sounds like the negotiations are pretty much settled for the moment. Let's put a good-faith effort into the research project, but... maybe start laying the groundwork for more militant solutions too, just in case that doesn't work out. A year should be more than enough time to gather some sort of reinforcements, given such an unambiguous threat to the whole city.

“Hey, welcome back! You okay?” Casey asks.

“Yeah...” he shakes away the haze of his spirit walk, “What happened?”

“The bargast changed course! We felt it shake, and I think it laid down!” Gabe shoots a thumbs up at his partner. “Good job big guy! You turned on that charm!”

“Indeed, good job lad.” Sifr slaps his nephew on the back. “I knew you could do it!”

“Not exactly,” Kol pulls himself upright. “I just bought us time. I talked to Rodwin; apparently his master, Lord Hekal went missing five hundred and thirty years ago and he’s searching for what happened. He seems to think Augustine Moot was responsible.”

“Was she?” Casey asks.

“He said she appeared in his court in a red robe, carrying a sword made of light and somehow sent him away.”

"Yep, that was her." Gabe says authoritatively, "Its a spell, not a sword. She was the only one ever to master the Claíomh Solais.”

"He said that he'll need more mana, and that he'll continue searching 'by other means'."

"Ominous!" Gabe remarks, "Anything else he said?"

"He warned me that, if we try to banish him or damage the bargast, he'll rain doom down on the city."

"Sounds about right." Sifr shrugs. "I'll get in contact with the Guardians, we'll make arrangements but… hopefully we can get this sorted peacfully."

"Oh, and he said Sir Opinel might be able to help us. His background will come in handy."

Above them the Knight laughs, "A shame, looks like our fated battle will have to wait. A knight's duties never end, even in death."

"We'll start there." Casey decides, "I'll figure out what Opinel knows and make a timeline. Gabe, the Sender Academy should have archives dating back to madam Moot's time, can you find them?"

"Ugh, research…" Gabe makes a face. "I'll see what I can do."

>>
No. 924628 ID: bcc41d

We could bring Sir Opinel along to the Sender academy. The historians there would know better what events to ask about, or what might be beneficial in asking about - and surely they'd have some interest in seeing someone so long dead, yet who still haven't lost their wits and will to hunger. I'm betting they'd be about as eager as Casey to pick his brains.

As an added bonus, we could show him the sights and the town along the way, maybe introduce him to Mitzi (who as a romantic is just gonna DIE from meeting a 'live', actual knight). Should be fine, no? With some (strong) perfume and a hood, he'd probably pass as a living person and I hazard he's interested in seeing what's changed in the world since he last was a part of it.

He might get ga bit disappointed re: that whole noble death thing, mind you. World's pretty safe these days. Not a whole lot of dragons to slay, fellow knights to duel and the fey are, uh, still wild, but ruly for the most part.

Their plans decided, the Spirit Guides clamber out of the cavern and step back into the sunlight.

Casey pauses and turns, “Look’s like the fog’s rolling back.”

Beneath them, the Moot Point bustles with activity. Its citizens fill the markets as rumors spread their busy fingers through the streets.

“Indeed, I imagine there’ll be many people wondering why the city has a new mountain.” Sifr chuckles as he strokes his mustache. “I believe it would be best if I took Sir Opinel to the Sender Academy and explain the situation. We’ll need to move quickly to keep the curious from trespassing.”

“What about us?” Casey asks, “Shouldn’t we come with you?”

“No, you lot go home and rest, you've earned one.” He smiles affectionately, his old eyes shining with hope. “You saved the city; mysteries can wait for another day.”

He sighs, “What comes next will be meetings and arguments between the guilds of the city and the Spirit councils. Long battles of pomp and opinion where a Guardian’s word holds a lot of weight. They would only serve to distract you from the real goal.”

Thank him profusely for jumping on the sword of responsibility for you. Then do take a break - but send a message to find Caleb with a letter offering an explanation for why you need mana oil, though. Although... I wonder if the fey world is going to react. Given the war between Hewn and Hekal, there may be a few old fey with grudges left. If Hewn is alive and still 'High Warden' or whatever he'll likely make some waves, diplomatic or worse, once he hears of Rodwin's continued existence. After all, it'd still be his reputation and position on the line if Rodwin lives and has the chance to clear his name. I see the potential for any number of fey or fey agents to involve themselves here

... really, it makes me want to suggest to Sifr that Rodwin's details be obscured until we know more of the fey side of things. If the LAST occasion lead to a magical proxy war of cray proportions we might still see real trouble, despite the current weak levels of ambient mana.

It might be wise to ask Caleb and other trustworthy fey friends - Nixie and Vivian - to see if they know anything at all. Perhaps they've heard of stories or know notable fey who may have been alive at the time that are still around.

"Thanks, Uncle Sifr. We might want to check on whether Rodwin’s presence will cause any problems with the remaining fey courts. We don’t want to bring down any retribution from old enemies.”

“Mmm,” the Medium nods sagely. “I doubt any of the fey will be comfortable with a devil living so close. I’m not up to date on my fae politics, but I’ll ask the Binder’s Circle. Cervantes always has an ear to the ground there. He might be able to fill in some of the gaps from the Court’s records as well.”

He extends a hand and Kol shakes it. The palm is worn and leathery, and the joints creak in his grip but underneath it all is a steely strength. “It was an honor working with you three. I get the feeling you’ll be joining me as Guardians someday soon, I’m looking forward to that day.” Sifr pulls his nephew in for a bony hug and claps him warmly on the back.

Epilogue

Gabe’s last gate for the day closes with a clap of thunder thats rattles the cabinets. Kol flops down on the couch, spreading his arms across the back and rolling his head back. “Oof! Fates, what a day.”

Gabe sits next to him, back straight and tail twitching with agitation. He nibbles nervously at a nail, “Yeah... glad you’re okay...”

Casey squeezes in next to the Sender, “Yeah, that was... intense.”

“What’s up? You guys seem worried.” Kol slips an arm around Gabe and rubs his shoulder. “We did it, didn’t we?”

Gabe smiles back at his partner, his mousey incisors peeking out. “Yeah, its just...”

“Well, while you were away on your spirit walk, your uncle seemed really worried.” Casey speaks up, putting a hand in Gabe’s. “He tried not to show it, but he was pacing all over the place, wondering whether he should go in after you...”

“Yeah. We were, ya know, scared something could have happened to you.” Gabe snuggles up a little, tucking himself cozily in Kol's arm.

If things are about to turn naughty (and why wouldn't they?), Kol should be the focus of any sybaritic activities, given that he played the biggest part in saving Moot Point from the Bargast.

After all she's been through, she deserves better than that. In fact, they all do. Kol ought to get up, then kneel down to their level to give 'em both a comforting hug, and them return it and with each other, for awhile. And then he can also give 'em each a smooch too.

Kol’s mind flashes to the scarred and burned walls of Rodwin’s mind and nods. “I can understand why. It was a risky move, and luckily I was able to talk him down... but it could have gone sideways at any minute. I’m glad I made back to you guys. Thanks for watching out for me...”

Kol slips an arm under Gabe’s legs and hoists him out of the couch. His partner holds onto his neck as the bigger rodent stands up and cradles him. “How about we go upstairs and celebrate?”

And speaking of stuffing butts, Casey could slip her aura tentacles into her or the guys' butts (or her vag) when their positioning would make it uncomfortable, awkward or impossible to use dick or fingers for that.

Also, thinking of uses of their magic, Gabe could theoretically create small Gates to allow auto-fellatio or auto-cunnilingus. Unfortunately just for others, since him losing concentration and causing the Gates to close while using them this way would be real bad.

Now, what could Kol use his magic creatively for sex-wise? Pushing his body beyond normal physical limits in the bedroom immediately comes to mind, but sounds kinda obvious. Spirit walk to share another's body and experience what they feel? Partially separate his spirit to connect with his sexual partner and share what each is feeling? Are those even possible?

“Apparently, yes.” Kol chuckles and slips a finger around Gabe’s waistband and tugs at his shorts, tossing them to the floor. He slings the Sender over his hips in a straddle and pulls him forward into a kiss.

Gabe’s hips grind hungrily against Kol’s stiffening cock and he moans appreciatively as a hand cups his ass with a squeeze. Another hand slips between his legs and teases out soft squeaks muffled by Kol’s lips.

As the pair continue to make out, they’re suddenly dropped onto the bed. The boys land in a blushing tangle and giggle to one another.

An impish smile spreads across her face. “I’ve got an idea. Gabe, get closer.”

“Yes ma’am!” The Sender shuffles forward on his butt, until he’s sitting dick to dick with Kol. His hips roll gently with anticipation; a single drop of pent up lust drips between the two, spread thin by the twin shafts sliding against each other.

“Good, keep that up.” Casey twirls a finger and a thin loop of aura uncoils, wrapping itself around the frotting boys. A deft twist and it constricts, squeezing them together and slithering up and down their lengths.

“Ahn! Oh fuck, Case! That’s good!” Gabe gasps as his tip is kneaded against Kol’s. His hips buck into the grind and Kol groans in response.

Gabe squeaks, loving the sight of his partner’s cock caressing his. “Don’t just sit there, Kol. How about you show some appreciation?”

Kol wraps his arms around Casey’s waist and drags her backwards. The Binder gasps as her partner dives between her legs and laps hungrily at her folds. Casey’s knees go wobbly as Kol’s tongue slips inside her, trying to find shallow sensitive spots to tease. She manages to raise her hips and Kol withdraws to happily suck at her clit. As he does, he feels her thighs shuddering as drops of her salty satisfaction drip from his chin.

Casey’s breath heaves as she comes down from her peaks of pleasure and turns around. She pushes a strand of hair aside and kisses Kol deeply, tasting herself on his breath. Wordlessly immersed in her passion, Casey reaches between them and lines him up before sinking herself onto his cock.

Slowly riding her partner, Casey feels a soft pressure under her tail. She “mmph”s back at Gabe encouragingly as he sinks inside, savoring the sense of fullness. Her eyes roll back with bliss as the boys begin to rock carefully in and out; their shatfs taking turns thrusting in a gentle, coordinated fucking.

Together, Kol and Gabe build up speed, giving their partner a passionate double stuffing. Casey flops forward and hangs onto Kol’s chest as the pistoning cocks drive the breath out of her. Sandwiched between thrusting, happy lovers, her body surrenders to the push and pull of pleasure.

She reaches out a shaky hand to add her aura tentacles to the mix, but there’s simply too much fucking going on. Her eyes seeing stars, Casey lets out a long, drawn out “Fffff-uuuuck!” as the pair thrust in simultaneously and send an orgasm crashing through her like a rogue wave. Muscles clench in rhythmic concert, telling the boys that they’re doing a good job. They smile and bite their lips as they redouble their efforts, trying to push their lover over the edge once more.

Casey's whole body shivers as the rough fucking pushes her beyond her limits. She writhes in place, pinned between her lovers and feeling spread and stretched. The slap of Gabe's hips against her ass, the base of Kol's shaft grinding against her clit, the smell of sweat, and sound of hot breath above and below: everything comes together to send the Binder into another explosive, shuddering climax.

That one moment of perfect balance finds its end as the mice lock together and the boys finally reach their end. Tight and hot, Casey's body welcomes them as they bury their shafts and let go, feeling one another pulsing within her and separated by millimeters. Twin cocks fill her with white hot sprays of cum as clenching muscles desperately cry out for more. Everything dissolves into a grasping, sticky mess, where no one can tell where they one mouse starts and the other ends.

Exhausted and spent, the three spirit guides flop together in an intertwined tangle of limbs and tails. Gentle nuzzles bring each other closer as their hearts beat as one. Soft sighs and contented murmurs herald the onset of slumber, as the saviors of the city close their eyes.
