Life is hard.

People are mean, and nobody will give you any break.

Everyone will kick you when you're down, if given the chance.

Not so long ago, this kinda things were what I went by. I believed it and nobody could tell me otherwise.

But... stuff is starting to make me wonder if that's right. I've met people and seen things and I can't tell what's right anymore.

Things I knew to be true all the way to with my heart, suddenly aren't. Things that couldn't possibly happen... have, and will again.

...Maybe I should start where everything began.

The bus arrives, and Shortstack and I get on, going to our usual seats.

> Morning, Tameka! How-- Ohhhh! You didn't brush your hair before school again! I swear, you are hopeless, girl!

That's Courtney. She's been my best friend since Kindergarten. We've rode the same bus every year. We even go to each other's houses.

> Come on. Have a seat. Let's see if we can get your hair under control before we get to school.

"Thanks, Courtney..."
I slide into the seat with her, and she starts trying to brush my unruly hair.

Here's some of what the paperweight block thing looks like. The back looks like it used to have more carvings, but they've all worn down.

The parts indicated with yellow are some sort of metal. I don't know what kind of metal. Feels like there's a bit of give to some of the parts. I wanna be careful not to bend them too much.

All of my stuff seems to be in the bag. Not a lot of room for anything else to be in there. I can barely stuff the thing in for the walk home. I'll look at it more later.

Guess I can see if anything's on. Don't think there's any cartoons left, though. Only those boring real shows. ...but I guess I can see.

I'll be in the living room, so I guess I don't need that box thing holding the door open.

Looks like another late night for Mom and whatever Rod's doing.

I set the kitten on the bed, then go to let Rebeka in. I call out a goodnight and turn out the lights, taking a seat on my bed. Rebeka flits over as well.

>"It was a bit of a bumpy start, but now you know what sort of things these demons can do. And that was a somewhat simple one."

"Y-yeah..."
I look at the kitten by the light filtering in through the window, who has curled up at the foot of the bed.

"...why does it still look like that? Wasn't it white before?"

>"...well... Demons can sometimes leave behind a taint in things they have possessed. Even something as brief as what this little one endured. We'll have to keep an eye on it to make sure there aren't any other side effects."

Eep. And I just thought it might be neat to have a kitty.

""That little bracelet around your wrist is a focus for calling your armor and weapon back to you."

"I was wondering what happened to it." Certainly more convenient than having a big ol' suit of armor just sitting around taking up space.
