First and foremost: how much of who is where?

Before you turn the jammer off, you're going to have to determine if there's any other enemy neumono in range outside. Does the jammer have an adjustable range? If it does, turn it down until just Rikek and Rakae are in it, then have them stick together and carry it. If it doesn't, you're going to have to step outside of its field and check. Once you determine it's clear, then turn it off for a moment to determine Rokoa's position. Can you still keep your empathic block up, even with all the pain?

You're also going to want to find a room with a solid ceiling and floor. You don't know where all that open space above you goes, or if there's a raised floor under your feet. Rokoa could pop out of either one.

Is it possible that Rokoa tried doing the "needle trick" right before facing Three Stripes, and got it partially wrong? Would this kind of insanity be like what happens if the needle is left in too long?

"Rakae, can you set the jammer to a very small range, with just you two?"
>"The minimum range is 3 meters, so you'll be able to step out of it without going too far."

If I can hold my emotions together after everything so far, the pain won't stop me. I poke my head into the hallway. Most of the blood is Rokoa's, but the only body parts are severed limbs of the salikai. Nevertheless, Rokoa must have significant injuries.

Four stripes is still attempting to pacify Rokoa, from what feels like two or three floors down. Three stripes is most likely somewhere in the facility as well. The three pacified soldiers are together, one floor down. Rokoa is also one floor down as well, but not with the soldiers. Her current excitement over this situation shouldn't be surprising, but it still makes me uneasy. I don't think any needle trick was involved. Normally I would rule it out, but for her, I will make an exception.

I can reveal ourselves to Rokoa as well, if we wish to ambush her, but I am not sure if that is her immediate intention given her location.

She probably plans to spring the troopers. Briefly check on the salikai in room 101 and ask him if he set up any security measures, then follow Rokoa's blood trail downstairs.

Bring a gun or two.

Better stock up. Take the plasma sword, both grenades, and the guns with the most ammo.

Most likely she's going to kill the predators to free herself and her comrades, but with her mind as fucked up as it is she could be doing anything. She might be heading in to rip her comrades to shreds for screwing up in the first place. Or eat them alive. Or some combination of all of the above. Point is: she's crazy, cunning, and unpredictable; Don't assume anything about her.

Get on the radio to Rikek and Rakae to relay what you've sensed, and to ask them to start looking through rooms on this level for a security camera console. Knowing the salikai's paranoia, it likely has at least one camera in every room in this facility. If it's still working, then they can track Rokoa and what she's doing, and relay it to you.

I tell Rakae and Rikek to try and find a way to use that lobby terminal, or failing that, the terminal in 102 for any security camera options. Failing both, to turn off their flashlights and hide. For now, while they inspect the first terminal in the lobby, I check on the Salikai in room 101.

Some smoke pours out, as does the stench of burned insectoid flesh. I am guessing this interrogation room was soundproof. The salikai is motionless. A low buzz of the electrocution table tells that it was turned on until the battery life began waning.

I hate to think that Rokoa managed to find herself a weapon sufficient enough to help her overpower a salikai. Then I think of the possibility that she didn't find any weapon. I realize, then, that the thought of an unarmed, half naked neumono single handedly taking down a salikai does absolutely nothing to relieve me.

I have one plasma sword, two grenades, a magnum with 15 shots and a plasma rifle with battery life for 50 shots. Although I don't know the specifics of these grenades, they appear to be regular fragmented grenades. It is the egg-like capsule that I can't use safely, and have left with Rakae.

Fucking hell. I hated having him around for the possibility of him doublecrossing us, but now we don't have anyone to teach the predators to help us take on the hive. How the hell are we going to escape now?

I just hope this facility here is actually y'know IMPORTANT somehow. This place may be our only hope.

Well. I'd say sprint down to Rokoa but she probably set up traps and shit. Move quickly but carefully and quietly.

Rokoa ripped off a Salikai's arms bare handed strapped it to its own torture device and then wrote you a message in her own blood.

And I think that blood trail is where Madam Crazy went. Any maps of this hidden facility that tell us where that might be?
>>
No. 398590 ID: 369d34

Turn off the juice to the torture rack. If you do get the power back on, you don't want any of it wasted on electro-roasting the salikai's corpse.

With things looking this dire, it's time to make a contingency plan. Directly ask Rakae or Rikek to arm the egg-bomb, and set the timer to twenty minutes, then hide it. Don't use the radio; Rokoa might be listening. If you don't give them an all-clear code phrase inside of fifteen minutes, they should run to the underground lake. If you've somehow survived, you'll meet them there.

Primary objective now is to get Three Stripes and see if him working with Four Stripes can stop Rokoa. Failing that, the backup objective is to jam or block up any other exit from the facility, taking the last one out before blocking it.

>I doubt they're all sadistic monsters.
They are. They also have a great deal of strength behind deceptively twig like legs, along with particularly sharp claspers. While they aren't as biologically hard to kill as a us, they are still able to tear us apart, and if what I know about them is true, they greatly enjoy doing so.

I cut the power to the table, and go to make sure that the salikai is dead. On touching him, one of his broken leg twitches, but nothing more. That may be a latent reflex motion. Even if he was not dead, I would have no idea how to treat him.
I move back to the lobby. Once I make the hand gesture to cut the radio, I begin talking.

"Rakae, is there any map of this place?"
>"If there is, it's not here, not that I can find."
"Anyway, I would like to arm the heavy bomb for 20 minutes. I am going down to Rokoa. If you don't hear from me in 15 minutes, run to - "
>"Polo. We're locked inside."
"... say again?"
>"I don't know how or when it happened, but the facility is in a kind of lockdown. We can't open the main doors out of here." I'm going to head to room 102 and check the terminal you said was in there."

We still need an exit strategy, of course. If we can get to her before she does anything, and disable her somehow, we can at least ensure that she doesn't fuck us over while we do whatever task she demands of us in exchange for our safe passage to a new hive that won't kill us. Or something.

The safe is locked, and the fridge is almost fully stocked with food, which I mention to Rakae and Rikek over the radio.

The couch has had much of its outer fabric ripped straight off of it.

I briefly hop up over to the ceiling. I don't want to spend much time examining, but the furniture alignment made climbing easy. Although the sides are blocked off to prevent going to the lobby, it looks like I can traverse my way down. I see faint light coming from down below. There could be a way to subdue Rokoa. Remember that neumono knockout poison the salikai wanted test subjects for? If you're lucky, it'll have synthesized a test batch already. If you're really lucky, there'll be a dart gun to fire it from. Even if it's a more general neumono formulation, it'll still slow Rokoa down.

Can you sense which way Rokoa is going? I'd guess she's heading towards the predators. Once she kills them, her comrades will be free to aid her. Though with how screwed up in the mind she is, she could be doing anything.

Ask Rikek or Rakae to start searching the rest of this level for anything that might help. Warn them to check for traps where Rokoa has gone. As unlikely as it is she could have set any up, she's defied all your expectations.

About now would also be good to lock all of your radio link's microphones on. If something does go bad, it's going to go bad in a hurry. There won't be time to hit the transmit button. This way the others will know what happened.

"You two search for anything of use on that level, aside from the terminal. Do watch for traps Rokoa might have set up where she has been." I say over the radio.

I slip down out of the ceiling and land in a security room. The lights are on, and I was pleased for an instant until I realized that all of the controls and monitors have been bashed in and broken.

Rokoa is straight ahead. If this is like the first floor, she is in the hallway ahead. She is moving around in a small vicinity, and a bit high up. She might be in the ceiling.

Weapon out and at the ready. Slice the pie into the hallway, sweep it in a 90* motion and take it slow, you don't want any surprises. Check the ceiling and look for any open tiles in the hallway outside.
>>
No. 398909 ID: 369d34

It's looking like Rokoa got up into the ceiling to ambush anyone who came down the hall. Wait a little bit and sense where she's moving, if at all. If she's staying put, you'll know she's waiting to ambush.

Even though the monitors are smashed, the security console might still be active. Check for labeled buttons or controls. You might get lucky and find one for the lockdown release.

Are the walls here are the same as on the first floor, and block off the ceiling space? If so, the only way out of here is the door. Ready your rifle, aim it up to where Rokoa is, open the door, and fire.
>>
No. 398918 ID: b85f8c

That could be a good idea. It depends on if we can shoot through the ceiling tiles... if we can, that's a free hit on her. Or more than one hit, if we can fire fast enough.
>>
No. 398919 ID: b85f8c

...on the other hand, we need her alive, optimally. If she was threatening to hold our friends hostage that means she at least can entertain the idea of not killing them if we do her task.

She'd just have to give us a better chance at surviving, is all. Maybe we can use that explosive egg to assassinate the human while being as far away as possible when the human dies.
>>
No. 398929 ID: affb00

I don't think Rokoa has to keep your friends hostage. All she has to do is escape intact and sane (relatively) and you're a sitting duck against her entire hive. You might be able to out-maneuver them, but Rikek? And the predator who's helped you would also surely be killed.

You're pretty much stuck with one of two choices: either incapacitate Rokoa, or go assassinate some human. Considering the situation, I'd think it less of a suicide mission to assassinate the human. It does seem odd that a QI would want someone dead that her entire hive is trying to protect though.

The floor is wet with enough of a constant puddle that a cut wire electrifies the whole surface.

Whatever makes the least noise. Though I guess stepping on the puddle would make audible noise too so you're pretty fucked here for stealth.

Also, consider cutting a wire that provides power to this floor, to blind rokoa.

Will the bio-armor protect you from electrocution? If so... Proceed with caution. The fact that Rokoa isn't moving seems to suggest that she's left one big, obvious trap - and if the armor makes it a harmless trap, she would know that too - while she waits to get you with some less obvious trap or ambush.
>>
No. 398944 ID: 369d34

Looks like this was likely the power cable to the first floor. That's not going to be a simple fix.

Could you get back up into the ceiling in the Security Room and see if the power cable runs back there? Then you could cut it with the plasma sword. Failing that, you could break the seat and back off that broken chair in the other room and use them as "stepping stones" in the electrified water, assuming they're non-conductive. Either way, once you're close enough to the power cable, you can jump onto it and climb up to get a clear shot at Rokoa.

Of course, this plan is moot if the bio-armor is electrically insulated. If it is, you could even pick the power cable up to zap Rokoa with the live end, if you get the chance.

Don't slice all the cables. You don't know what you'll need power for later, and sliced cables are not easy to repair.

That live cable must be drawing a lot of current through, so it's going to be warmer than the others. Try holding the back of your hand to each cable to judge the heat level. Also give each cable a solid pull. If there's no additional anchor on the cut cable, it'll pull through the hole.

Rokoa is basically a murder machine that occasionally finds a reason to restrain itself. It currently has no reason to.

A) that contradicts what she said earlier in this thread and also what happened in the mission in the main thread, and
B) WE are the one with the hostage.

We don't know SHIT about how Rokoa reacts to the enemy holding a hostage.

Are we certain that this is still the same cannon? It is quite possible this is an out-of-time intermission, as last we saw Rokoa (>>384706), she was definitely pretty far away from here.

It is likely a prequel.

Call Rikek and Rakae and inform them that Rokoa broke the electrical cable to the first level, so there's no way to get the equipment up there working for now. Get them down here to provide backup when you breach room 202. But before breaching from the hall, check the ceiling in room 201 for another way into room 202.

>>399078
Going by the general attitude of Rokoa and Rokoa's hive, she'd probably shoot through the hostage to hit Polo. Rokoa knows her hive's soldiers are tough, and these soldiers would have somewhat failed in her eyes, since they were captured. Where the price of that failure lies on the scale of discipline to death is unknown.

Second post no longer seems to exist.

So, the neumono see the salikai as monsters because they don't do empathy. I assume they don;t all enjoy inflicting pain, though.

Four stripes is one or two floors down, depending on how much of a gap between two floors there are.

I have great doubts that a hostage may help, but given their docility, I don't believe it would hurt either. Perhaps I will call Rikek and Rakae down here as well. They can remain in the jammer bubble themselves. On the other hand, they probably are in the middle of barricading the door, and perhaps it is best if I face Rokoa.. alone..

"Rikek, Rakae, please come downstairs instead and give me backup. I am going to talk to Rokoa. Just stay off to the side and watch my back."

A moment passes while I gather myself, before telling Kara to follow me. It didn't strike me at first, but I realized how odd it is that she does follow my order rather than me having to pick her up and guide her along. The manner in which the predators are affecting them are beginning to get entirely unpredictable, not that I ever fully understood them. I may want to test this fact later. Nonetheless, because of the unpredictable nature, I would rather bring one soldier than all three. I doubt it would make a difference to Rokoa.

With all of us gathered and the hostage in position, I hit the button, and the door opens.

>"Hello. Nice armor you've got on."

The lights inside are off. It's likely that she sensed Kara coming.

"... I want to negotiate. If you try anything, I'll... shoot your hivemate."
>"You don't say. Let's negotiate, then. Who do you like least among your friends? The wimpy boy, or the family runt?"

"I'm an emotional cripple, like you said. I don't care about either."

Then cut her into many tiny pieces and incinerate the pieces.

Okay, that'll probably end up causing a paradox, but you should at least try.

Kill plan:
Shut the door. Then shove the plasma sword in the lock to disable it on both sides. After that, start cooking a grenade and cut a hole into the door to toss it in. Then slap the fallen panel over the hole to keep her from throwing it back out NO MATTER WHAT.

Talk plan:

Tell her that's irrelevant. We're willing to take the deal she gave us before in exchange for safe passage offworld for both you and your friends, and some way to improve the odds that you'll come back from the mission alive, aside from her armor. She's not going to kill your friends, mostly because she's going to be tied up with guns pointed at her while you're gone.

Don't say anything. Shoot the base of the match, then shoot her in her good eye. Get the hell back, because she's going to be wildly swinging that axe at you. Dodge to your right so you all have a clear shot, then unload into her. When you're certain she's dead, keep firing.

If that barrel is open you could probably kick it and it will splash all over her and her candle thing. She also doesn't seem to have any guns, so keep an eye on her spacing from you if it all goes south backpedal and shoot.

Now she seems to be using the barrel of fuel as a bomb, but if she lights it up it'll probably just burn instead of explode. you could probably just shoot her.

Until you can get word from your hive it's best not to assume that's a safe place to retreat to anymore. About all you can gain at this point is information that Rokoa might know. If you learn why her hive has landed here you may be able to negotiate on their terms or at least figure out how to avoid them in whatever self destructive campaign they've embarked. The other thing you might want to know is who is this human Rokoa wants killed and what are the reasons that her hivemates would not have simply done the deed already.

In exchange you can tell her what you know of the predators and how you came to be in such an unfortunate position with regard to her hive. That is, you were hunting moton eggs as a tradition, when all hell descended upon your pathway out.

String Rokoa along for now; Answer "The wimpy boy." Then ask if she knows how to lift the lockdown.

Perhaps play to her vanity and compliment her on taking down that salikai bare handed. Maybe thank her for saving you the trouble of killing it yourself.

"That fire would hurt you more than it would hurt me."
>"Fire? This isn't some regular fuel. Yes, it will hurt me more than it hurts you if it goes off, but is that okay with you? There are more things below this bunker, and you'll have to go through all that if you want to get out of here scott free. The salikai, before I toasted him, told me it was like a whole subterranean jungle down there of things that not just seem to hate neumono, but seem to hate all living things as a whole. He had a whole family, he said! Gonna be real ticked off when they hear their green buddy is dead. Real interesting, and I'd love to see it. Think you can handle it yourself after you take a point blank explosion, with my armor or not?
"All that is irrelevant. Who is this human you wanted out of the picture? I am still willing to listen to that for safe passage out of here."
>"Just a trader, but I'm very very certain he's going to try and pull his diplomatic strings and play us like puppets. Rest of my hive won't listen, but I'd like to look out for 'em, you know? I don't want to do it myself, but if I can get someone outside the hive to do it, no skin off my back. After all, it's not like they'd believe you if you claimed I did it. Pretty sure Kara there is too braindead to worry about it either. A suicide mission on our flagship, like I said, but I think you'd do it for your buddies to get out of here!"
"I'm an emotional cripple, aren't I?"
>"No, idiot, if you really were, you'd be a rogue. You're cold and calm to a fault, and would see a mission through to its end and try to save everyone."
"I would like to know how to end the lock down."
>"Too bad I didn't ask the salikai how to do that, after getting him to lock it down. I just didn't care. Now about that suicide mission? If you accept, I'm sure we'll be able to carve our way through this facility just fine."

She's insane, and many of her actions don't line up, like why she didn't leave here or how she has been so lucid despite supposedly being 'pacified'. Trying to work with her, either to escape, hatch plans or do anything... I can't see it happening. Every part of the back of my head has been telling me that she needs to die, and the cards she has to play against me doing that will likely only strengthen over time.

She is completely superior to me, and as I think of ways to kill her, almost all of them I am sure would result in my death instead. I have to keep it simple. It might be a bluff that this is a liquid that would explode, but I am absolutely positive that she is not bluffing when she could and would throw the fire inside.

"Rakae... Rikek..." I whisper quietly behind the cover of Kara.

They don't say anything, but they look to me to ask what it is. It is only important to understand the next word anyways.

"Run!!"

The door swings back to slam shut.

It's the little satisfactions I like most. A little drink after a long, hot day, a nice little word from a friend, or a day off of work that I have inarguably earned.

BLAM

So I can honestly say that I am absolutely elated, that in this move, I have wiped off that unending smile of Rokoa's. Even if it was just for just a fleeting instant, she didn't feel excitement or aggression, and just felt an honest, unpleasant surprise.
