You float across the dining table, watching your minions eat Styx's surprisingly good cooking.

You float over to Alice who's simply staring into her food bowl. She teeters back and forth on the verge of passing out.

Well, we probably shouldn't choose our destination based upon how fun their names are. What are the notable cities around here, and what are they known for? What assets could we reasonably seek there? Where are we relatively unlikely to be recognized as a former evil overlord('s eyeball)?

I am disinclined to go recruiting mercenaries and so forth, but perhaps we could seek routes to profit other than combat, if they're available. What are our best options for making cash?

"In what place would I be able to easily make money?"

>"The Land of Trial my Lord. It is a fighting city where warriors from all around go. The challenges offered there all reward money and equipment as prizes. Your Enslave ability and Tame powers won't work in this land however. If you want quick cash I highly recommend this place."

This.

We can still recruit, just not mercenaries looking for money. That does not a loyal army make. We'll want new heroes just starting out, looking for help to get going, or a good cause to fight for. Young, impressionable minds, willing to learn.

I'm still astonished at how easily people connect the tailed figure that menaced with spikes of evil to the floating eyeball. What gives us away as the same creature? If we can somehow go unrecognized we might as well go for the arenas.

But if we'd be recognized, you're right and that's out.
>>

I don't think we should be going to arenas yet. We are still too widely remembered as 'that evil ruler guy' to want to be seen by the general public yet.

Honestly, I favor our current enslavement methods over more conventional recruitment. The fact that our minions were all dragooned into service puts them on equal footing with one another, in a way, building us toward a situation where our more experienced employees can say "you'll get over it, we all did" to new people. It also ensures that they're magically bound to our will in similar ways. I just can't see conventionally recruited people responding in any kind of positive fashion to our usual discipline-enforcing strategies.

I don't like it, we still lack much in the way of front line units that can take a hit. We need a few strong warriors and front line fighters. But I suppose us Emily and Rose would be an effective team... Ask if there is less risk of losing your servants in this trial.

I'm still curious about the doll. Can it be remade to serve us, or would we have to capture Silva herself for that? And how can those arms be used to make Emily stronger? Or maybe even us? When we get our body being able to equip a staff for fire magic would be nice.

Is that eye icon on our 'eyeball' our emblem in some way? Styx's mask seems to have the same symbol. That might be how people are recognizing us.
Either that or living constructs who order around mortals are not that common.

is anyone else getting the vibe that this is a world that could use being conquered? i mean slavery seems fairly common, the attitude we encountered at the mage tower suggests racism is fairly widespread, and so called the heroes decided to horrifically mutate someone out of petty vengeance(if they were at all concerned with justice they would have either killed her or imprisoned her). i'm starting to see why our old self decided to conquer the place. though there might be a more viable means of forcing the world to change.

Actually, Rose wants a effeminate, weak willed, male, black-haired, Hero spear-user on the team. Put out the ad, it would be a nice reward for her loyalty.

That uh... doesn't sounds like a job ad. More like the personals. How about we just keep an eye out for warriors to keep our lady company when we get there, eh? And let's not forget that this is OUR harem, nice as we may be this time around.

You try to figure out why the hell Rose would want something so specific but decide it's best not to ponder such things.

"Ah, before I go I needed to ask you one more question. I obtained one of Silva's Dolls and some doll parts. Can Emily use those parts and can I rewire the Doll to make it more loyal to me?"

>"You probably can't change the doll's loyalty without the help of a spell. As for Emily..."

Styx grabs the doll arms and tests them.

>"Hmm... Yes the staff one would allow her to cast Fire at a range of 1-5 and the blade gives her the ability to do 2 attacks per turn. It'll cost G75 to attach them successfully to her body. They'll also both function as normal arms.

You thanks Styx for her time and tell Emily you'll get her another arm as soon as possible.

You gather up your troops and prepare to head to the Trials. Rose yawns and joins the group.

>Rose: "Ready when you are."

"Good. Oh that reminds me.. One of the many fragments of my mind said you wanted an effeminate weak willed dark haired male spear user. I'm simply curious as to why."

Rose blushes bright red and tries to stutter out an answer when Emily flies in front of her with a magazine.

>Emily: "Oh Rose is always reading this things about girl boys, see?"

She waves the magazine in front of you.

>Rose: "Emily! What the hell!? Don't go through my things!!"

>Emily: "But it was right beside your bed."

>Rose: "SHUT UP! Give me that back!"

>Emily: "Okay okay. I don't see why this is so special, you have a bunch more."

Hmm... the obstacle course sounds great for Rose, but I wonder if Emily or us would be allowed to go, given the flying thing. The Fight sounds good but I don't think we have that much cash, and if we do we can't well spare it. Is there a questdis thread? Because I can't find one.

In lieu of questdis thread I will post this here.
I was thinking on my PR plan from earlier. I posited we "pretend" to be the "son" of the overlord, begotten via a failed contingency against death.

However it occurs to me that this is the actual TRUTH. We do not have the old overlords memory or personality. Nor body actually. So in effect we are an entirely new being. This should not be just a cover-up for PR purposes but what we really believe ourselves to be, because its the truth.

The old overlord had noble intentions and became corrupted, how amusing that our own intentions are power and conquest and yet it is those intentions that will lead us to ruling with a care and compassion. To having loyal and loved companions (a desire for power and conquest doesn't render one unable to love). And to maintaining our public image above all else.

We should come up with specific wordings to explain this to our most loyal and first followers. Styx and Emily. After doing so I suggest a speech given to all the other minions together.
Finally, when we finish up with the trials we should look for a town in need of saving and offer to be their savoir and protector (read: hero) with our army (read: ruler) via annexing them. Treat them VERY well to help spread rumors of the new benevolent ruler. Make PEACE with those who have the reputation of being the nicest all around.
The exact wordings of the 4 speeches that are needed are something I think we should hash up in a questdis thread.

You need two guys for them to act out yaoi fantasies. I'm pretty sure she just likes bishies.
Besides that? Going out of our way to make Rose happy builds loyalty, and not just for Rose. Seeing that we take care of our people makes others respect us more, which results in improved loyalty across the board.
Take Alice, for example. She knows we didn't give a damn about our people before, so every time she sees us building good relationships with our people her resolve against us weakens.

TL;DR: Doing nice things for people makes people think we are nice.

Other things we plan to do that have no or disproportionately low rewards:
Research treatments and cures for Plague Spreaders.
Heal Styx's face.
Improve Emily's build quality.
Not use the corruption potion.
Repair the Sylva's Doll we acquired.
Etc...

We definitely need to train our lower level minions. Disgaea this ain't, so trying the "overpower one character" gambit would be a pretty bad idea.

No, we need to find some way to effectively train our troops without having to micromanage them every step of the way. Particularly if there exist a possibility of larger scale battle in the future.

Another idea, try to see if it is possible to hire a "private investigator" of sort. Someone who, when we pay him, would go out and find the location of specific units we ask him about.

Not basing our recruiting strategy on luck alone would be VERY welcome. It would also make finding a guy suiting Rose's taste a lot easier too.

I like the idea. Could we perhaps build a training room in the castle where we could have our minions fight each other without fear of death? I imagine they would level up that way.

>Tell styx that not only do you think she is beautiful, but you would prefer if she took off the mask when it is just the two of you; it is her choice of coursed but you want to see her cute face.
This is pretty much base flattery and she'll know it. Cute art style aside, massive scars are generally not actually attractive and I don't want to lie to her. If we tell her to take off the mask when we're alone, it should be for something more like "I will not forget that they are a mark of what you suffered for your devotion" than "You're beautiful anyway!"

>After doing so I suggest a speech given to all the other minions together.
>Finally, when we finish up with the trials we should look for a town in need of saving and offer to be their savoir and protector (read: hero) with our army (read: ruler) via annexing them.
I think all this is premature. Our castle is still a ruin. Our best troops are still relative newbies, no better than the dime-a-dozen people all over the place. Until we've got a functioning base and either much greater numbers or seriously crack troops, we shouldn't be getting so ambitious as to annex towns.

And until/unless we start making significant changes in how we do things, there's not a lot of point in getting everyone together and boldly telling them about changes in our personal convictions (which still won't stop us from holding them enslaved). So holding on that seems appropriate as well.

I am not really inclined to go on sidequests to get specific new people when we have so much else to worry about. Let's just keep the prettyboy thing in mind as a potential recruitment target of opportunity in the future, or something to do if Rose is bummed for some reason.

And I am really not interested in holding more private talks with Alice. Alice's loyalty appears to be gradually rising, so I'm willing to say that she doesn't need additional mucking about with her morale at this time.

Agreed. The "go hunting on your own" mechanic seems custom-built for this, honestly; having basically all of our troops go fight battles alone or in pairs would probably be the fastest way of leveling them offscreen from the available options that we have at the moment, and it would get us loot as well. We could hold back two people as our personal escorts and send out the rest to do that all the time; that might level them relatively quickly.

Or if we just want relatively high-level minions straight up, we could scan through the available battles for some who are alone and then mob and enslave them. It would probably take a relatively short time to stage up to having minions of levels 10-15.

Congratulate Emily and Rose. Tell Ruby to get some rest, you have an awesome new staff for her.

I see two problems here:
1. They will be killing heroes and thus giving us a bad name.
Possible solution: Limit them to fighting monsters.
2. They may die
Possible solution: Training arena in our castle
Possible solution: Make recall stones that teleport them back to castle if they are about to lose.
Possible solution: Limit them to fighting easy targets; Problem: Will they get XP?

I meant every word.

While I will grant you that IRL scars aren't beautiful (and they do look adorable in this art-style), having scars does not automatically make a person ugly. Yes her face is blemished with scars but she is still beautiful despite them.
>"I will not forget that they are a mark of what you suffered for your devotion"
I am ok with that too.

actually, can you ask styx what sort of materials she will need to brew a potion to restore her face and vision? And if she knows of any spells, artifacts, etc we could go hunting for to achieve that same goal.

>How did ruby lose?
If I had to make a guess its because she is a level 4 support character.

>Ruby is extremely weak in everything but her magic. She's best kept in the back for support.
HP: 17
ATK: 1-2
SPD: 3 Spaces
MP: 3

She can buff an attack to do +5 fire damage (if cast on self she would do 6-7 damage in melee, if she hits) and one attack spell which cost 1 MP and does 12-15 damage to enemies who are 5-7 squares away.

>killing heroes and giving us a bad name

Dude, no. They don't really DIE. They respawn in town. This isn't a major sin-we're basically only robbing them- and we're sortof evil anyway. I am NOT interested in trying to beat this quest as a pacifist.

I don't think anyone cares if we kill heroes for exp and loot, I mean, heroes do it too, why else would they wait in random areas for people to come fight them?

You'll find the spear user later. Ruby is already exhausted and you are certain the others will soon follow.
You decide to take all your spoils and head back to the castle. Right now you have G90.
----------------------------------

Back at the castle you float over to a bathing Ruby.

>"My Lord?"

"Ruby, I forgot to give you this earlier."

You hand her the Metamagic Rod.

>"!!! My Lord! This rod, it's amazing! T-thank you!"

"It is nothing. I hope you use it well in combat."

>"I will my Lord! I promise!"

You leave her alone and go to check on Styx's progress with the translator.

You enter Styx's room.

>"My Lord."

"Styx, how is the translator coming along?"

>"It is complete my Lord. However while making it we received a letter."

"A letter? From who?"

>"Silva.."
