Okay. Well, when I was still a girl, I had a deep-seated interest in the dark and the mysterious. My friend Jake and I would spend hours together, poring old books or looking at curios from the antique shop. We were... very close. One day, we found a very special book, a very rare book from before the days of book burning and witch trials. As you've probably guessed, it was a book of conjurations.

Jake had a lot of trouble with it, but I was a natural. The material came easy to me. I learned how to mindlink, how to conjure creatures and objects, how to call specific creatures to me, and how to bind them to a specific place. Jake cheered me on, and we grew excited with our new ability. Not that we had any idea what to do with it.

You're probably expecting something horrible to happen at any moment, but that first book... everything was fine. It was when we found the second, the Book of Demonology, that things went wrong.

My own shoes wore out a long time ago. I've been scavenging destroyed stores, but its hard to find intact pairs beneath big blocks of concrete.

>WHAT DID YOU THINK WOULD HAPPEN?
I REALIZE I SCREWED UP, OKAY. But its a little late now.

>I think she gets it by now, guys.
...Thank you.

Anyway, I thought I wasn't a fool. I prepared the strongest binding circle I knew, and summoned the weakest demon in the book. Its description said it had no powers to speak of, and was generally considered friendly, as far as demons go. It was physically frail, and generally considered pitiful.

I was not overconfident. With the information I had, I thought I would be okay. Jake was there, and he was looking forward to it so very much.

...Pretty much, actually. I wanted to summon it to see if I could. I didn't have anything I wanted it to do. Maybe just talk to it a bit, then send it back.

I was pretty arrogant at the time. I am a very good conjurer, you see.

>How did it break out?
That was entirely my own hubris. One corner of the circle pictured in the book was slightly worn, and I screwed up trying to guess at what the symbol was. The demon, Vresch is his name, actually pointed it out to me, and wrote the proper symbol into the book.

>It should have AT LEAST held long enough to banish the thing.
If I could catch him again, then yes. It would hold. He told me that it was a strong enough circle to hold almost anything in my book of Demonology. Vresch said I did pretty good, all things considered.

Jake ran as soon as he got out. The coward. I can't believe I liked him.

Well, let's see. Automobiles, fire alarms, traffic systems, military launch codes, telecommunications, security systems, and all sorts of things I am probably forgetting can all be manipulated by him as soon as he gets access to them.

So YES. YES, HE INTERNETED THE WORLD TO THE GROUND.

He also used giant robots, though. There's one roaming in this city, even. I showed it to you here: >>25187

>So you need to find him, and banish him? And, of course, you're the only one that can do it, since you summoned him?
Well, anyone who knows the circle could banish him. But its hard enough to find people who are still alive, let alone who know anything about conjuring. So its pretty much up to me, yes.
>Well, I assume you have the circle memorised now?
Completely and entirely. I could write it in my sleep.

>>25283
Because I was dumb enough to risk blindness summoning another demon to hunt him down. The circle worked perfectly. Unfortunately, that demon was far too weak compared to what Vresch now wielded.

>Alright, so where and why do we come into this picture?

Well... yes, but I'm not sure any of them have been on your order of magnitude. I mean, you broke the fucking world (by accident). That's pretty... well, pretty ridiculous.

Nonetheless, we have shit all else to do, and sitting in the middle of a wasteland doing nothing for eternity doesn't sound very fun, so I'll start with some basic advice.

Don't listen to everything we tell you, not all of it is useful. For instance, taking that doorknob was a complete waste of time and energy. If we tell you to do things like that again, try to ignore it.

Now, can we get a quick run down on your capabilities? Maybe a bit more in-depth on conjuring, and some ideas as to what you are physically capable of?

I think we should explain how we work...

There's a number of voices in here. Some will try to help, some will ignore you, finding your story uninteresting, some will try to screw you over. Whatever entertains each of us.

Even if it's "take the doorknob and make a hat with it".

Now, for a useful question. If he destroyed the world, wouldn't his power suffer from the destruction of what creates technology in the first place? Perhaps it's time to go ludite. I guess we can get the plans for emp weapons in here and try to weaken him (or at least get rid of the robots).

Perhaps summoning an electrical demon of some sort to make all technology go nuts would be more along your line of expertise.

>So what exactly was the general world population's reaction to "Cybernetic Demon Overlord Is Haxxing Us?"
...Oh. Right. Yeah, the world leaders pissed me off here.

They nuked his giant robots. It worked, but most of them were in populated areas. Most of the world's largest cities are irradiated hellholes now.

And Vresch just built new ones. A lot of people fought back, with whatever they had, which is why most cities are in ruins, but a lot of them are still okay.

>If he destroyed the world, wouldn't his power suffer from the destruction of what creates technology in the first place?
He didn't want to destroy it, that I could tell. He wanted to rule it. He's taken to making slaves out of most people he finds, but I'm allowed to roam free just about anywhere. I think he feels duty bound to let me be, or something. I don't really understand it.

Alright. Conjuring has two basic steps. First, I create the creature to be summoned. I can summon nearly anything I like, but only up to so large a mass. Its not called from anywhere; I literally create it on the spot. What this means is I can conjure things that don't really exist.

The second step is the Mindlink. With creatures I've made, this isn't an issue. My eye binds to their eye, and I can see what they see. Back when I had two eyes, I could still see out of my own eye, but that's no longer the case. With the mindlink, they follow my thoughts like a puppet, doing my bidding. Its very useful.

There is also Calling, where I summon a specific creature from somewhere else. For a Calling, I need to make a sealing circle to bring it here, and hold it in place. I also need to know the creature to be called.

Once sealed, I can establish the mind link as normal through another ritual. Its at that point where Vresch broke out, by the way.

according to different mythologies, religions, and folk tales, there are many different ways to defeat demons/monsters/what-have-you. Any idea which specific one this tech-demon comes from? For instance, I believe that one belief says that if you know a demons 'true name' if is bound completely and utterly to your will. If our good friend Vresch is affected by this rule, then theoretically all we need to do is discover his true name and banish him with it.

Ok seriously, talk to this guy. From what I'm hearing he wants to rebuild the world as a more advanced society then it already was. While he may be working towards his own benefit, it seems like it may benefit us as much as him. If you can somehow work with him, rebuilding the world may not be so difficult, and something tells me he likes you, it may just be that every time we have an owner there is sexual tension somewhere, but who knows. Either way simple diplomacy never hurt anyone... that I can recall, plus you have us if things go sour.

>What happened to your other eye?
My right eye got blasted when Vresh broke the mindlink, and is now sealed. I can not see out of it, and I can't mindlink with it. I doubt Vresch can see out of it, but honestly, I don't know.

My left eye is the only eye I can form a mindlink with anymore, and I am blinded completely while I have something summoned. Just a second ago I conjured an eyeball, to show you. Now here's my eye normally.

>And what about Uncalling? Would that be an option?
Yes. Banishing is performed by creating a sealing portal connected to whatever dimension I intend to banish to, and then getting someone inside of it. The one I know can be used to call or banish anyone from... wherever Vresch was from.

>What happens if you create a creature but don't mindlink it? can you define some basic behaviors, or does it just sit there?
If I conjure something and don't mindlink it, nothing holds it here. When I break a mindlink with a conjuration, it vanishes. Same thing if I never establish the mindlink in the first place.

Coralina, this book of Demonology.
The names, specifically - were they just names, or did it have some notation of the importance of the name?

According to legends of old, knowing a demon's True Name gives you power over them, making them forced to follow your will and instructions.

If "Vresch" is his true name, you should be able to order him around... If it's not, and it's simply a name he answers to, you might have to figure out what his True Name is somehow.

Any other voices want to offer a take on this?

>Is there any problem with scale on the banishing circle? What about materials?
Technically nothing is stopping its size, but the entire circle needs to be made out of special saltpeter and sulfur mix. It smells horrible, but isn't too hard to make. Getting enough of it to build a mile-wide circle... well, that's a very intimidating thought.

>About how much mass?
Uhhh... Fuck, I have no idea. About 5 times my own mass? Maybe more? I've never tested the limits, and summoning gorillas is usually enough to solve my rubble clearing needs.

>Does damage to conjurations affect you in any way?
Other than damaging the conjuration and straining the mindlink, no. If a single blow damages a conjuration too much, though, it has a chance to sever the mindlink, which... would blind me eternally. I've once had a near-burn, and had the eye sealed for a couple minutes. I try to unsummon things before they die, now.

>Is there a limit to the range of a mindlink?
About 100 meters or so.

>You do realize your taking a magical artifact right to him right? I mean sure, we ain't Excalibur, but if he gets his hands on the orb, we'd be helping him and not you.
...I'll hide you.

>True naming
I've read up on True Name magic before, but I've found no books of formal studies on it, so I don't know how to use them. And even if I did, I doubt Vresch is his true name.

>Finding Vresch
Now, as for finding his general location, well. He's set himself up as the ruler of the world, and runs the only radio station on the planet. He lives in the center of Neotis, the city he built. The place is crawling with his robots, though, so it'd be pretty close to impossible to make a circle big enough to have him in it without him noticing it.

...I've been avoiding the place like the plague, but I do know one sure fire way to get there.

Already, time for some fun with computers. Lets try wording it differently. It might be that the bot reacts negatively with the term "stop" in this context, so how about "Can we pick up some <Blank> on the way?"

Coralina searches through all the junk in the front, trying on everything but finding nothing of particular interest.

Reaching the backroom to forage for more articles of clothing, she comes across a peculiar piece of armor.

Having time to spare, she tries it on, finding it a little big. Slipping on the pants and boots that came with it, she manages to hear a nigh-audible squish from inside of one of the boots.

Quickly, she feels lightheaded and overcome with a feeling not unlike she had during when she summoned Vresch; sTRONg, cONFid-DENT, POWer-erfUL...

Her eyes start to blur, overcome with these NEW EMOTIONS. THE URGES. THE FEELING OF VIOLENCE.

NATURAL INSTINCTS POUR IN AND SHE RUSHED FOR THE DOOR, NEEDING SOMETHING TO HURT.

SHE LOOKED UP AT THE ROBOT, EYEING ITS MASSIVENESS, HER BODY TWITCHED VISIBLY AS IT WAS AGITATED AND FULL OF MIGHT.

THE THOUGHTS PORTRUDING THROUGH HER MIND START TO COME OUT OF HER MOUTH IN A VOICE NOT LIKE HER OWN.

"...tear and rip and tear..."

"...rip AND TEAR YOUR GUTS!"

maybe i wasn't clear. you lose the use of an eye when you conjure something, so having only one eye remaining is a problem that you should find some way to solve. if you could find a book on summoning angels, you could get one to heal your eye. if you can't, then you need to find a way to get more eyes, such as making a change with something you conjure that would result in you having more eyes afterwards. if you've seen TMNT, mutagen fuses two things together in way that benefits the more intelligent of things being fused; you could fuse yourself with a potato, which has many eyes. if you can't find one, a spider also works; it's got about eight (so seven more than you)

Now we're passing Vresch's windtrap arrays. Giant pillars with small slits everywhere, designed to funnel the wind into a turbine. He has enough power to fuel the world five times over, according to his radio broadcasts. Its ridiculous, just how much ground they are spread over.

Even if it means that you could use his liking for you? Use it not to undo the damage, that can't be done, but to at least start to rebuild? Every man listens to his woman, even demons. You could slowly change his policies. You could slowly free the slaves, or at least make their lot in life a bit better. Here's some food for though.

Going by that guard's directives, you are authorized to order a guard to fire upon another guard, who will in-turn have to fire back as per Directive 004. Going by this theory, you can command ever guardbot to kill other guardbots or even themselves as per Directive 005.

If this is not true and there are other directives preventing this, then this particular guardbot has disobeyed Directive 005. That would mean that these guardbots are capable of acting outside their programming, and could be swayed to serve you instead.

It doesn't matter. Vresch just made these robots, out of his otherworldly powers and whatever was lying around. What difference do loopholes make when the reason there's no DIRECTIVE 000: OBEY. VRESCH. is that he doesn't need one to control them?
If he ever sees you as a serious threat, he'll make some that don't have those nice directives and send them after you.
That said, go ahead and mindfuck this guardbot however you can. You're stuck playing Vresch's game, you may as well impress him at it.
