On top of that you're pretty darn cute and very easy on the eyes. Most people only dream of being half as interesting as you. So take a moment, feel good about yourself, make a toga, give Roz a good night snuggle, and pass out.

And don't be so quick to write off that scarring as a bad thing. Right now it's almost certainly up to something sinister, but no technology is inherently evil. If you can gain an understanding of it then who knows? Perhaps you can manipulate it serve, rather than hurt you?

We exit the PVD and survey the beds. I pick one at random and start preparing myself for some much-needed rest.

Behind me, I hear Ashela.

I cover myself up and feel Ashela join me. She places an arm around me, most likely out of habit. This feels strangely familiar, so I don't bother moving it away.

Titzi floats down in front of me.

"It's okay. He kind of went way out of line just now. I'll yell at him when he pops back out tomorrow."

"It's not just that. Everything about him seems sleazy. I really think he's trying to manipulate you, and every time I try to make you see that, you get mad at me."

"I get frustrated. You don't seem to care what I think at all."

"He's stealing you from me. You're the first truly kind person I've ever met, and I feel like we're drifting apart. I keep thinking about you and him running off together and I just-- damn it, I don't want to lose you."

I look at Titzi in silence for a moment, then reach out my arm and touch her gently. She jumps a bit at first but doesn't fight it.

"You won't lose me, Titzi. You need to trust me a bit more."

"But what if he--"

"He won't. I won't leave you, I swear."

Titzi's usually angry voice quivers as if she's on the verge of tears. "Can... Can I sleep here tonight? Please."

"Of course you can. It'll just be me and you, okay? Um, and Ashela apparently."

I help Titzi remove her belt and slide her into the bed with me. Ashela places an arm around me again and I decide to do the same for Titzi. She smiles at me.

Shortly after, Betsy joins us and we all fall asleep together. I don't recall much about my past, but I hope I was as happy then as I am now.

I don't know what tomorrow will bring, but I'm not afraid. Whatever happens, I'll be ready for it.
