Thank Miss K for not lying to you, and tell her it means a lot to you.

Then tell Lia that we said you're the only person in the area willing and able to go down there, that the quality and relevance of the information you bring back depends entirely on how much they're willing to tell you, and that they're obviously in dire need of information if they're so shocked. Also, that not bringing you up to speed means that we will be supplying you with the best information we can.
If she doesn't bite, then you can tell her we said guns are bemusingly quaint compared to some of the things we can bootstrap. If the carrot doesn't work, we use the stick.

so, Player, it just so happens the dungeon went up a couple of levels! maybe all of them!

be careful, Lia may try to get you arrested. miss K may help you flee but the shit has officially hit the fan, and is now dripping of the roof. you may ned to consider not being able to face a weapon handling demon/person or maybe not returning to the dungeon at all due to Lua reporting the shotgun to the authorities.

it was just kinda odd to not have a explanation or a warning ._.

Miss K: "Its not about trust, Greenie."

It IS about trust, because they are trusting US and our knowledge to make up for what they aren't telling you. We'll have you dual wielding railguns in no time. Or something. Tell them to tell what they know or we might teach you how to make gunpowder! Would be hard to make even the bullets the weapons use, but even a primitive hand lobbed grenade could do wonders.

As for what we heard... much more was implied than actually said. We'll speculate later, if we don't get directly explained here. Don't think it would help to mention we heard anything, so don't.

player, lia will rat you out. if she doesnt, she will rat that the dungeon has gunpowder weaponry, and thus, it will be deemed the most dangerous of all. some weapons she called angel slayer.

you dont need to menance her. but what you are going to do is very stupid as it is necessary.

you will get back to the dungeon. you will tell Lia and Miss Q that you cant really make another choice. and you will do it if they help you or not.

now, as it is, you have no way to even understand these guns, even tho we, the orb, do. you can tell them that we saved you, lia and miss Q should not care.

you must tell them that it will be their fault that you will die there because noone wants to talk about these guns.

because the choice is either a slim chance of survival to stop the village from getting eaten, shot and sacrificed or leaving as soon as possible to the next city to survive the following onslaughter, only to have the same thing happening again.

anything helps. anything at all.

Telling them if they don't tell us we will make guns seems like an incredibly bad idea (not saying we won't actually help you make them, just we don't need to tell the world, especially when it seems to be 'top secret, eyes only'.)

Also, this is an opportunity to tell them a SWASHBUCKLING COMBAT STORY. How can you resist?
>>
No. 246829 ID: 475f37

Hold on, Player.

Basically? Yeah, guns, firearms, are a sort-of taboo thing. Lia (somewhat hypocritically) criticized Miss K for being a bad actor and not just telling you it was just ordinary magic.

The main thing seems to be that demons having them means trouble, especially if they've got more than the one you saw, or more powerful versions.

Miss K and Lia are not supposed to tell you anything, though, and I'm guessing it would have something to do with spreading dangerous knowledge. Lia seemed particularly adamant on this point, and she doesn't quite trust you, since you got back alive from a gun-toting demon.

Honestly, and here's my advice: I don't think we should press on that issue any longer. Give them some time to think things through, to accept that you know about guns, but that you aren't likely to do anything bad with that knowledge or go spreading it around for your own gain.

To that end, you should say that if it's so important to them, you'll keep mum about the whole thing whether or not they tell you anything more and if you get your hands on one of these guns, you'll take it to them, rather than try to sell it or show it off. It might earn you some more grudging cooperation.

Player, Miss K refused to play along with Lia's attempt at deception. Thank her for refusing to lie to you, and tell her it means a lot to you.

Then tell her we want to talk and hand us over to her. We need to speak with her where Lia can't interfere, and it shows trust, good faith, and a willingness to keep her secrets secret.

We're going to negotiate; find out what they are willing to tell you in exchange for what secrets we will keep, and what help they will offer in exchange for the help we can provide.

Not to be a sourpuss and rain on your parade, but I don't think Lia's gonna listen to anything we say unless we bring some damn good arguments to the table, and we're not... always known for that. She also kinda doesn't like us already, remember? Let's not go down that road again.

That aside, it's Lia's trust Player should try to gain here, since he already has Miss K's to an extent, so trying to keep her out of the loop isn't the best of moves. She'd just grow more suspicious/irritated with Player and Miss K... and heck, the two women are obviously friends, and I wouldn't want Player to drive a wedge between that friendship.

Err... I was saying for Player to hand us over to Miss K. Lia refuses to even touch us, and Miss K is likely much more willing to discuss these things with us and seek a compromise.

tecnically we have 2 big arguments for us.

one is we saved player from a gun user, the other one is even if they DO tell us why guns are bad we are going to make player effective against them, either by making our own guns or properly preparing player to fight them.

Hey Player, ask if armor that's proof against guns is also forbidden knowledge. If it isn't, I'll pass along the formula for a new sort of fiber you can make bullet-proof clothes from.

You don't need guns to beat guns, you just need to be able to survive the gunshots.

A properly made trauma plate is only good for several hits, true, but if one of those hits would have killed you it is well worth having. A trauma plate in his shirt, held just over his heart is a good idea and not so costly in terms of extra weight.

then ask K to work on a high power hand-crossbow, so you have SOME kind of ranged weapon to counter theirs.
also a ceramic plate can stop a bullet, only once though because it breaks. but it turns a deadly shot into just a very painful one.
>>
No. 249719 ID: de86eb

Technically you can also use a variety of overlapping fiber weaves to stop bullets, well the smaller stuff anyhow like shot pellets. Rope armor, for instance can be so effective as to require a fairly large and powerful slug to penetrate.

"The voices tell me that spider silk can be woven into lightweight bulletproof armor. Also, they're saying some rather unkind things about you, Lia, but the gist of it's something like 'unless she has a magic army hidden in her closet then player is the only thing standing between horrible death and everybody else'. A few are saying any secret worth more than my life to you isn't worth my life to me.
You obviously don't trust me, Lia. No, more than that; you've been patronizing and outright hostile to me all night.
Please, can you tell me, why should I trust you? How can I trust you?"
>>
No. 250056 ID: a5038a

If you can get ceramic, you can make a vest that will carry ceramic plates. They will take one shot and bust most likely, but it will be some protection.

Of course, while it wouldn't be like wearing heavy metal armor, it'd be heavy enough to stop you from jumping around, which is a big part of how you fight.
>>
No. 250065 ID: 62806e

If you can get enough high-quality spider silk, and if you can spin it into usable thread, you should be able to weave it into cloth. Layer that cloth multiple times, at least 20 folds, to make armor.

If you can't get enough spider silk, but you can get chemicals like black hair dye, caraway oil, wood alcohol and ammonia, chlorine and white phosphorus, and a dozen other things that I'll mention if you go this route, then I'll be able to instruct you in how to make the kevlar fiber. Kevlar is five times stronger than steel, and it is wonderful for stopping bullets. Spider silk could be better, depending on the sort of spider, but it would be nearly impossible for you to synthesize given what's on hand.

Making kevlar will prove to be a challenge, honestly.

The process for making the ceramic plates is comparatively easier, although the very best (better than you'd need, I would hope) requires rather rare material.

For stuff that is proof against a shotgun you'll need a good high fire clay, say a cone 10, as your starting material. You want a high fire clay because it's water-resistant, dense, and brittle. Form this clay into tiles, and sandwich the tiles between a thin metal backing of the lightest metal with a reasonable tensile strength available. In your case this will likely be sheet metal steel. If titanium is available, use that instead. If weight is a problem, use aluminum (not as good as steel, but lighter and less expensive than titanium).

These tiles are your trauma plates. You can make the plates in large sizes to save a little on weight, or make them in small sizes and attach them like lorica plumata to make a bullet-proofed vest that you can repair as needed (provided you make extra tiles).

If you need extra strength in the tiles themselves, place a honeycomb shaped metal armature inside the clay before you fire it.

A single large trauma plate will weigh around eight pounds. If you choose to make a lorica plumata trauma vest expect it to weigh around forty pounds (but it will also provide superior protection, due to the increased coverage and ease of field repairs).

Relying on your legs isn't the worst idea you could do, acrobatically-conditioned as you are.

Anyway, perhaps it's time to move on and set out? We'll be here forever if people are going to run these ideas through you to Miss K, then she can tell you why she can or can't do about 'em, and so on and so forth. Not that the ideas aren't good, but I don't think you'd approve of anything that weighs you down, and the lightest alternative, kevlar, will be tough to synthesize, since there's no way anyone has the materials at hand or even the necessary tools.

And for all that's holy, you need to do this, at least: Ask if Lia is willing to do you a favor. If she is, ask her that she take the halberd you borrowed to corporal Clash. If her oath of secrecy thing doesn't prevent her from informing the guards who are supposed to keep demons out about them having guns, she should tell them what Player told her. Forewarned is forearmed. Or she could make up some story on her own, so your cover isn't wrecked, since she's such a great keeper of secrets.

The spider silk would work if you layer it. It'd be like cloth-mail. The ductile nature of the spider silk thread is what would make it work. The silk spreads the force of the bullet hitting out, and since bullets have little mass they do far, far less damage when they hit a thick spider silk pile. It would still leave a hell of a bruise, with the possibility for internal bleeding from the blunt force alone. It doesn't stop the shot, it just spreads the force out enough that it doesn't kill you.

Kevlar is more reliable. Spider silk varies depending on the spider, but kevlar is great. It would behave in a similar fashion to spider silk armor though.

She's right though, spider silk (and kevlar for that matter) would not stop arrows, stones, or blades. Fiber armor is strictly good against bullets and other high velocity projectiles. If you want to stop a blade, chainmail is still your best bet. Platemail for rocks and arrows.

Also. >>250212

"I am an adventurer, so I can't fault you for questioning my sanity. I suppose nobody can be entirely sane if they spend their life going into the unknown and risking death. But I don't think what I am matters, so much as what I do.
Yes, the person I brought into town was a half-demon. The person who had been taken from her home and warped by horrible magics. The person who spent who knows how long as a tortured and tormented slave to demons. The person who was maimed and dying when I freed her. The person whose life I tried my best to save. The person I made as comfortable as possible while she was dying. The person I buried because nobody else was willing to give her any kind of funeral.
Yes, she was half demon, but more importantly she was a person. She wasn't a threat, she was an innocent victim.
I only regret that I couldn't save her, and I'll wear your venom over her as a badge of pride. I'm not so cruel as to turn a blind eye to the suffering of innocents.

The same goes for the voices ball; it's a horribly vile mess and it knows it, but before anything else it tries to do the right thing.

I would have thought that you, "Evangelina Mélange Oates, daughter of Lord Charles the Merry", would have put more stock in judging people by their actions than who or what they are."

We're the ones she has a problem with... and she isn't completely wrong about our nature, but she's way off on yours. I think the only way Lia is going to trust you is if you put us down and talk with her yourself. And yes I do think you should try no matter how she's been acting.

And this is why I said we shouldn't shove any more on the secrecy issue. Exactly this, in fact. I saw the potential for conflict 'tween K and Lia because of us and you. If Lia didn't trust us, why would being suspicious of her and tossing accusations in her face improve that?

Learn from this, Player. Losing your temper with someone you should be working with never helps. Listen to yourself!

"Why am I supposed to give my life for yours?"

When was that ever the issue? Lia didn't make you choose a life of adventuring. You did. She didn't make you stick around once you met demons and the dungeon got closed. You did. She didn't make you decide to try to do this to help people. You did. And for most of the right reasons too.

So... get on with the program. Go find Sun, send him here, and then head off. I think it's time you dove back into that dungeon and give tempers a chance to cool down.

we are not blaming Lia that player choosed the life of a adventurer. we are blaming the demons for putting everything in high stakes, lia just happens to know what their hand is.

if you didnt realized player is no longer a "adventurer". he really isnt any more adventurer that a textbook definition of a superhero is a adventurer.

this isnt happening here just for the money, nor for the loot. there are no quests to be made (literally), the danger is now stratospheric and we are still in the need to do it. dammit, we barely managed to save the town of a reaally, reaaaaly small boss.

what is next, a APC with a teleport ring inside? what are we supposed to do? be dense and retarded to the situation and leave everyone to die?

player, if you are going to get Sun, you will need to stay low. it would be better if you could organize a evacuation of the town if you really want to give up on the dungeon, but this may get you arrested, so its up to you.

That's exactly it. He chose to help people, and she's intentionally withholding information that could help him help them. More than that, she's trying to keep Miss K from helping us either.
This isn't just about Player's life, this is about everybody who will die or worse if nobody can prevent the demons from attacking the town. At this point player is the only person they have; if he fails, they all die.

Player, go tell Sun to head to Miss K's place. After that, well, you might as well go find that guard so you can talk to him. Alone.

I beg to differ. Whatever Player faced with Charlotte and Charlotte's mom, it was definitely not a 'small boss'.

And, as Lia rightly pointed out, we don't KNOW what else the demons have, or even what they're up to. The only way we'll find out is by going down there. If they have so effective tools of conquest and carnage, why didn't they use them already in their first attempt?

It's a fair toss-up between there ACTUALLY being something worse, or it just being a lone shotgun they happened to have acquired. Recall, it could just be an ancient relic they've recovered. The 'honor guard' Charlotte had certainly didn't use shotguns, if you recall what we saw back then.

Finally, Player is most definitely an adventurer. Why wouldn't he still be in this to make a name and some silver for himself? It's not like that makes him any less a decent person. Crawling is his career, that's just how it is, as I understand it.

>>250336

This village certainly has more than Player to rely on against threats. Case in point: The dungeon guards. Case in second point: Whatever reinforcements is arriving from the larger cities within the next week. Player is the only one who will be actively seeking out the demons and face them in their lair(s), but that does not mean this village is defenseless or without support.

But, let's adress something important:

People are different, and not always easy to trust. If you think it is enough for some stranger to say 'you must help me so that I can help you' to get someone to offer aid and trust, you are sadly mistaken.

What am I talking about? Well, from her point of view, Lia does not have good reasons to trust or like Player.

Let's list them, why don't we?

-He's listening to and being guided by what is, in her opinion, an ambigous, possibly manipulative match-making (*cough*pervert*cough*) orb full of wild opinions and dangerous ideas, one that she has developed a clear distaste for. Point against Player.

-He's faced demons with dangerous weapons and suspiciously returned alive and unharmed from such a match, despite her knowledge of just how dangerous guns and demons are. Humans sometimes collaborate with demons. Player wouldn't, but how would she know that? Another point against him.

-He's wanted by the local guards for something stupid he's done. Chalk up 'nother.

-He's placing one of her friends at risk by dragging her into the mess he's embroiled in. Her friend. Potentially getting in trouble. Because of some golddigging scoundrel of a crawler. Of course she'd be resentful and want to get rid off him and encourage her friend not to help him.

-He's being obnoxious and demanding she break trust against whatever her, possibly sacred, role as a keeper of secrets is. That'd be the straw that breaks the donkey's proverbial back.

So hop down from the high-falutin' horse. There were different ways to gain her trust, and you advocated aggravating self-rightousness that was bound to grate against her.

Now we don't get whatever thingy Miss K was working on, we don't get to check out the different 'tones' she spoke off, we certainly don't get Lia's trust anytime soon and we may not be able to count on Miss K's support as surely.

So, this ain't great, you'll agree. Not unfixable, but anything but great.

We're in a bad situation, emphasizing it won't fix it. We were irritating about it, but the fact that Miss K even stood up for us means that at least she believes that we're not wrong about it. When she cools off, maybe she will tell us about the tones and crossbow later on.

Now, since we currently have no objective other than run into the dungeon and pay the dungeon guards a visit to give them their halberd back, may I suggest that we should probably not plan on coming up until we can prove that they have advanced technology?

A trust she may be regretting, after having clocked her friend hard enough to lose teeth. Had I been in her shoes, I most certainly would be considering my actions deeply, and with regret.

...Still, I'll refrain from pointing out the extent of the mistakes of my peers in the future. I just wish you folks would have more of a care that some advice may cause unfortunate encounters like that one.

I know we're not the most diplomatic of orbs, but please, give it a try, and don't just abandon all sense of restraint when you don't get what you want. That's what cost us aid from the Twins. And however people in this town may act towards Player, as a crawler he needs their support, directly or indirectly, as much as they need Player's.

Where, for example, would Player be now without Manuel's torches? Where would he be without Father McLaughing's gift of silver, or his holy water? Without anyone to sell goods to, supply him with a meal or a place to rest?

You reap what you sow. He's already having to be wary of the guards because of the whole debacle with the halberd and his re-entry into the now-forbidden dungeon (which is why I advice returning the halberd by a proxy). He can't keep alienating people like Lia, who might have been helping him, albeit not in the manner some of us would have preferred.

Get some ammonium chloride, or the mineral sal ammoniac, and dissolve it in water. That will make the water chill for no obvious reason. It will also make it slightly acidic, so use a container to keep it away from the skin.

to my understanding, the demons havent used more guns because it does not belong to them "directly". the dude wielding it was a bit "stranger" that the usual, pehaps to the point he would be a emissary from another demon family.

but you have JUST touched the information Lia posess. we do not know if they can manufacture guns to power up a army, we do not know if they can make more ammo or the expensive black smokeless gunpower needed to make it good.

we do not know how well they are trained, or even if they are trained asides "point hole to the enemy, squeeze trigger till victory".

what if they know gun-specific strategy? everything could literally go to hell because of a skilled sniper, let alone a silenced gun wielding dude that knows dynamic entry.

>>250385
it was to my understanding that player is going in tomorrow. this will put the demon's plan on that dungeon in a checkmate.

with the summons on the dungeon dimming quickly, the local monsters dying and the sudden clearance of adventurers not getting in the dungeon, its likely that even with charlottes (possible) death they will have to decide on something drastic before the dungeon is properly cleared for high level adventurers.

Probably time to get back into the dungeon. Let her handle this. Just remember to use the terrain to your advantage if you run into firearm equipped demons. If you can get close enough then you will gain the advantage.

Oh, and what she said about us. Some of it is true, some of it isn't. But you don't really have to worry about it, we are really trying to help. Just sometimes we kind of mess up.
