Sometimes we have to dig out new tunnels. I think this one was for quick travel between the house and the gathering place in the forest.

He's managed to help the other one up, and is looking for the source of the voice. I don't think he's seen me. They look somewhat familiar...

Yeah, lutes... hey, wait a minute! That's Tune and Melody!

"Hey! Tune! Melody! Up here!"

Tune responds.
>"Huh? Who's that? What are you doing up there?"

"What are you doing down there? I thought no one had explored this cavern!"

>"We only come to this part. Come on down, let's get a better look at you."

"Down? Are we looking at the same sheer drop?"

>"Yeah, yeah, just climb down, it's not that hard."

Melody looks vaguely bemused as Scars and I get to our feet and brush ourself off.

>Melody: "Short end of the stick as usual, eh, Scars?"

>Scars: "Yes, ma'am."

Tune turns his attention to me.

>Tune: "Who're you, then? Do you have a name yet?"

>Melody: "I don't think so. He looks like a houserat to me. Probably his first time out of the burrows. What're you doing here, anyway?"

"Sticks! Match... Fire. Matchy Fire McMatch. No, wait, Sticks. Yeah, Sticks."

>Melody: "That's not how it works. You don't get to choose. You do something, or are something, or have something, and you get named for that."

>Tune: "We don't have time for this. I'm not naming him. Can we just go?"

>Melody: "Hold on, Tune. Why are you here, Scars? Did he bait you here?"

>Scars: "He's my friend! He said we could go on an adventure. I asked him to."

>Melody: "Oh, very well. Whatever you do down here, be careful, alright?"

Can you climb back up if necessary? If not, better ask if you can borrow that from them when they're done. Or think of making one yourself. Unless you (or Scars) know of another way to get back.

"Hey, can we borrow that?"

Melody tosses it down to me.

>Melody: "We don't need it right now, and we can make more if we do."

>Tune: "If you say so. Come on, let's go."

They both disappear from the opening in the wall, and I follow Scars across the bridge and into the large, human-sized tunnel.

This stick is starting to seem less and less cool as we find out more of this interesting place. Maybe you should wait until you're near a lot of dry organic matter like wood or paper in order to have maximum dramatic effect.

Yeah, probably.

I trail Scars down the darkened hallway, until we arrive at a stone room with a single flickering torch. There's a door straight ahead and one to the right that seems to be blocked by a large hunk of stone right in the doorway.

We could check out the hole, or the other doorway, or try and get up to that thing by the door somehow. I get a bad feeling about the hole, though.

A roaring sound grows stronger as we walk down the hall, until a raging torrent of water comes into view. It's moving pretty fast... I think if I fell in I'd be swept away in an instant.
>>

Is that a torch on the wall? Oh well, look around, and into the tunnel (with someone holding onto you so you don't fall in just in case), what can you see?
>>
No. 259463 ID: 679e7a

Don't forget to check the other doorway too; there may be a gap where you can at least see what's past the rock.

>>259463
By other doorway, do you mean the mousehole?
>>
No. 259602 ID: 679e7a

>>258754

Maybe? I'm a bit confused. You said:

>>There's a door straight ahead and one to the right that seems to be blocked by a large hunk of stone right in the doorway.

I thought you meant we were looking at the door ahead (the one with the thing next to it) and that there was another door (blocked by rock) that we couldn't see. Were you in fact looking at the blocked door (with a thing next to it) and there was an open door to the left?

At any rate, yeah, at least take a peek in the mousehole; if you have a bad feeling, well, don't get so close that you could get ambushed. If that doesn't turn up anything useful, we'll have to decide between fording the river and finding some way up to that thing.

I have an idea in that regard, actually; can you throw the hook completely over the thing from one side, then move the string so the hook catches it and you can snug a loop around the thing?
>>
No. 259673 ID: 6d4402

The door ahead was blocked by the rock. I went down the darkened, unblocked doorway.
