This. Everyone I've known who's gone adventuring has come back faster, stronger, richer, and sometimes with MAGIC POWERS.

Or, y'know, dead.

But that's better than acting like a pathetic gutless mouse, who can't even rat up to tell the rat-ess that he loves just how he feels. Better a broken spine than none at all.

I don't really think it would be helpful now. I mean, what would I do with a fire right now? It would just be wasted. There's a time and place for everything.

Tunnels it is, then. I hop down from the table with Scars and head over to the wall. I can see the ho--who's that?

>"Captain, I need you t-- Oh. It's you. What are you doing here?"

Oh cheese, it's General. Well, we might as well give up now. He's not likely to let us through if I tell him we're going adventuring off in one of the unexplored tunnels.

No, there are few cats here, although they do like to mess with us. Mostly we get the scars fighting other rat tribes. Or ourselves. I happen to know General has given my friend more than a few of his eponymous scars.

General lets us pass, looking preoccupied. We enter the first tunnel.

As far as I know the closest unexplored tunnel is this hole into a big cave. It's a really steep climb down the wall, and then there's a human-sized doorway and a bridge across this big pit.

Maybe? I'm a bit confused. You said:

>>There's a door straight ahead and one to the right that seems to be blocked by a large hunk of stone right in the doorway.

I thought you meant we were looking at the door ahead (the one with the thing next to it) and that there was another door (blocked by rock) that we couldn't see. Were you in fact looking at the blocked door (with a thing next to it) and there was an open door to the left?

At any rate, yeah, at least take a peek in the mousehole; if you have a bad feeling, well, don't get so close that you could get ambushed. If that doesn't turn up anything useful, we'll have to decide between fording the river and finding some way up to that thing.

I have an idea in that regard, actually; can you throw the hook completely over the thing from one side, then move the string so the hook catches it and you can snug a loop around the thing?
