WITH THE STATE INSPECTION AT THE HANDS OF LORD BRIGADIER GENERAL QUINTON DELEVAS SUCCESSFULLY NAVIGATED, MORDRE BUSIES HIMSELF WITH ATTENDING TO KYOGROCK ARCANOWORKS, AND LEARNING MORE OF HOW THE PLACE HAS CHANGED IN HIS ABSENCE. WHILE MORDRE PLOTS, KEDDIC WALKS, THE 4TH HEIR OF THE HARKSBURTON LINE LEADING A CARAVAN BACK TO MORDRE'S BASE OF OPERATIONS.

>GOLEM QUEST TEMPORARILY BECOMES KEDDIC QUEST, UNTIL SUCH TIME SHIPMENT REACHES THE ARCANOWORKS OR KEDDIC DIES

I hired some five wagons, each with a pair of horses to pull them, along with drivers for each. Miss Jezebel has been fiddling with some components in the wagon second from the back, and has thankfully kept her viperish tongue in check. Honestly, I sometimes find myself wondering why Mordre chose to hire her... and then I see a particularly brutal murder machine of her crafting, and recant my doubts. Lord Donwick Dregas, still contentedly sitting in the upturned hand of the clay golem Geodiaz, brings up the rear of our caravan, as I take point, leading us across the landscape. Despite our slow going, we make consistent progress... which is something of a problem right now. Our path originally brought us through the Cursed lands of the fallen Mosmordren Empire.... and our hired drivers seem more than slightly reluctant to press on.

"Look, we had no issue passing through on out way here, why would there be trouble now?"
>"This land is not only cursed in a definable manner, but was also the home of the Mosmordren Empire. No way am I going in there."
"But the curse was placed more than a decade ago, by now it's potency has faded greatly."
>"Doesn't matter, what you paid us isn't nearly enough for stuff like that."

I sigh at this comment, as the caravan already cost 120 marks to set up, leaving me with 353 marks of the 473 Mordre handed to me. I must admit, I was a bit surprised at how hard the bargaining was back in town... and now I find myself disappointed in the quality of the work I hired, and I begin to wonder if this reticence is genuine, or simply part of an attempt to squeeze more money out of us.

What should I say or do?

Did we replace our ammo during the night, he asked hopefully.

Anyway, I don't recall us asking her if her father requires help or aid on any project. Let us ask it like this:
*Yawwwwn* "Aaaah, morning my dear, did you sleep well? My tea should be here shortly, so let me ask you before the ears of maid's arrive: Does The Blue Knight need help in any way we can provide? If you could answer quickly that would be smashing - I have a lurking feeling that Illia was taken with my mention of this Blue Knight and would swoon if I could help him personally."

If he needs help:

"Lovely! I'm sure my men would love to help. here is just dying to sink his teeth into a proper challenge. I do so hope this is the start of a, ah...what was that line? Oh blast it all."
Door opening sounds. Sound of serving wear approaching.
"Ah, Illia! Oh, thank you."
"What is it, sir, you're never quite this nice when I bring you breakfast before."
"Ah, yes, yes, well, I was just remembering a delightful line from that play you went to about the dashing young hero, Richard I believe, and his, ahem...lover...who worked to free a man against that oppressive state. Oh, it was about friendship and the state police or something, what was it?"
"This looks like the start of a beautiful friendship. Also, I believe your golem...device...thing is on. Which means you're distracted, or waffling."
"Bah! I was merely trying to remember something. Anyway, my dear, I hope this [Illia speaks the lines almost word for word as well] 'Is the start of a beautiful friendship.' Ill-!"
"I'm going, sir, I'm going." Laughter. "Tell that Blue Knight if you see him that he does sound dashing, would you? Maybe I could control the golem when-"
"Out! Out I say, with your feminine wiles!" Female laughter. "Bah!"

If he doesn’t need any help:

“Ah, I see. Oh well then. Erm, do you know if any villages are beset by bandits or plagues of any sort that I might make right? It seems rather poor taste to come so far without letting BANG have his fun and all. Erm, pardon me for a moment, I must get my breakfast. I’m sure you can deal with him by yourself for a few minutes.”

We should segway onto the nature of her mission and if she requires help on this venture. Pay attention to anything that might aim her goal towards 'Core Being', or possibly attack the township - I doubt the attack, but we should play the cards close to the vest. Something like this, say:

“But enough about your father’s positions. What of yours my dear?” Sounds of a man cutting up his food and eating. Toast being buttered, eggs being cut, bacon being crunched, these sorts of sounds. “Not to pry, mind you, but if you’re so close to Trekel would you need help meeting the locals? Or some geography? I know the fields quite well, I must admit, but I know the town better and have a fair share of friends there.” Splutter of a cough that turns into a nice laugh. “Ha…ahaha…he…Bang and Oggroth might favor you with a story about Blair the Pickler, eh lads?” More laughter. “But, heh…hahah…ahh…If I could help you along with your mission this far north I’m quite sure that would help relations with your father, wouldn’t it? Of course, if you’re already done, or do not believe in friends helping friends, I understand although I would hope you would offer us the same kindness.”

If she needs no assistance, I'd say lets escort her back to her father or, if not, just go to the near-by village. I doubt we're getting more iron without attacking the Blue Knight, and unless we can make her talk about her mission I doubt we can get more out of her.

[Author forgetfulness: You guys suggested replacing ammo previously and I omitted it, so: RETCON: Mordre now has the two Skyfall rounds and four more regular Anti-Golem Rounds stored on his lower back, and a full six Anti-Vanguard blades stored on each of the hip hardpoints (Ammo totals, for clarity: 6 Regular AG rounds loaded, 4 stored on back, 2 Skyfall: 12 total cannon rounds. 12 AV blades stored, with 6 loaded, for 18 total blades. ”Well, ‘tis morning now, and I doubt the rain shall let up. Dame Valiria, are you heading back into your father’s land? I could use an introduction if you would be willing.”

“..Yes, yes of course. Well, as you said, the rain is unlikely to relinquish it’s grip on the land for the nonce, so if you are ready..”

I look about the cave, noting the Premen already packing away their gear, and Bang polishing off the last of his breakfast, the whole of my party largely ready to depart. They note my appraisal, and look to me expectantly. I turn back to Dame Valiria as I motion for my party to make ready to march, their response immediate: I note Valiria observing their alacritous response with approval, I seem to be solidifying myself in her eyes as a leader in my own right.

”Then let us be off.”

With nothing more than a nod, Dame Valiria strides out of the cave and into the light rain, my own party trailing behind her as she leads us further south. As the day passes, a heavy fog starts to roll in to complement the unending drizzle, reducing visibility to pitiful levels, though this does not seem to impede Valiria’s progress. We eventually reach a large, shadowed mound obscured by the fog, scores of shapes moving about it: This mass resolves itself into an active mine, soldiers and miners, all dressed in blue, still laboring despite the poor weather. At the sight of our group hands jump to swords, but as Dame Valiria steps forward, the look of concern is replaced with surprised recognition, and several run into the buildings about the mine, before shortly returning in the wake of a teenaged boy in ornate armor dragging an oversized sword alongside himself, a smile lighting up his face as he sees Valiria.

“D-d-dear sis-s-ster, it is g.. g-g-good to see you! F-f-fah..finally coming b-b-back home, th-then? And wh-wh-who are these ind-div-v-vvv..viduals with you, who p-p-possess a Soul G-g-guh..grave?”

“Little brother Vonjeen… I am only returning for a short while, and I’d thank you to leave it at that. As to those with me, the Mage Mordre wishes to meet father, and I agreed to introduce them. Perchance, do you know where father is?”

Knight Vonjeen, son of the Blue Knight and little brother of Dame Valiria, continues to smile beneath his matted locks, as he appraises our party more thoroughly while offering another stuttering response.

“F-f-fa-father is in the n-n-n-Northern outpost. D-d-do you n-n-need-d an Es-scort?”

“No, that will not be necessary, but thank you for clarifying fathers location. ‘Till next we meet, little brother.”

Without any further comment, Dame Valiria leaves a bemused looking Vonjeen behind as she starts marching again, and I am forced to follow her lest I lose her in the fog, the mine and the other child of the Blue Knight fading behind me as we continue our march. As the world once more becomes completely shrouded in mist, I hear Oggroth comment to me from atop his mount Hairy Steak, a contemplative tone in his voice.

“…Little warrior in fancy armor looked weak… but the sword born by little warrior, while looking to drag on the ground, left no furrow. …It is suspected the little warrior kept the blade above the ground on wrist-strength alone… but this idea could be wrong. What are Chieftain Mordre’s thoughts on this?”

What should I say to Oggroth?
And should I say or ask anything more of Dame Valiria?

[To Oggroth]: "Perhaps the lad was simply cold, it would make sense given the downpour we experienced yesterday. Call me crazy, but he seems like the real selfless type. It isn't hard for me to imagine the boy standing out in the rain, keeping a watchful eye out for foes like Dulu. Of course the thought is mostly speculation, as I don't know this Vonjeen personally. My take on Vonjeen: Valiria didn't react to the way he speaks so he most likely just has a minor speech impediment causing him to stutter. Let's not bring it up because there's no need to, we don't want to seem insensitive.

The lack of a furrow could be because he's carefully holding up the sword with extreme strength, but that seems like a lot of effort. It's quite likely to be a side effect of whatever runes and magic are affecting the sword. It could be effectively weightless, it could be buffered on a cushion of air or perhaps it only cuts specific things. What did our magnetomantic senses pick up?

"Dame Valiria, I take it that your brother Vonjeen is the overseer and protector of that mining community? He seemed quite happy to see you and wanted to accompany us, yet you refused his offer. Did you not want him to leave his post unneccessarily?"

From what we've heard so far Valiria seems quite politically minded. My guess from the way she treated her brother is that she has gotten tired of her family treating her like a girl that needs to be protected and that she is out doing her own thing to prove herself and strengthen her father's holdings. She doesn't seem to be too happy about returning home, but the fact that she's bringing in a potential ally seems to make it worth it...

I think we should try to really get on her good side when we meet her father by asking if all his children are as strong and ambitious as Valiria.

We should make sure we remember that Jezebel mentioned needing Superconductive material.

That means Aluminum, Tin, Tungsten, etc. Those'll be the easiest to acquire, I'd think, as Aluminum and Tin are very common substances, and Tungsten...well, not so much. It's a premium armoring material, after all.

Niobium/Tin would be the best material for Jezebel (I think, at least). No idea about how common Niobium is.

Conversely, we could ask Gialgorra where he gets his supply of Superconductive Materials, as I highly doubt that he doesn't make use of them.

What language did he use? Premen or common language?
>>
No. 194033 ID: b4c60d

To the premen, in the preman's language:
"Oggroth could be right - despite appearing weak, he could possess fantastic strength. Or maybe there is a rune in his armor or sword that lessens the weight, or increases his strength, or it was merely a decorative sword, or any number of things. But do not assume that because one looks small and weak that he is. Think of Jojo, or Moss when I first found him. Strength is not always evident." Pat to the great beast's flank and turn to Ugrokk.

"Well, Ugrokk, what did you think of that meeting? Is there anything you gleaned from watching that young warrior or anyone else?"

And because I don't doubt the premen will wonder why we're not speaking English.

"I know, I have taught you the common tongue to assist you because I feel that it will become a great strength to you, to know this language. But, as I'm sure Ugrokk knows, digression is the better part of valor. In front of a stranger, to speak premen is a coying tactic. To make them assume you do not know their tongue is a skill most advantageous."

And switch to common for Valiria.
"So, was that your brother, my dear. I hope it wasn't my fault you left so suddenly - brotherhood is such a rare value and to leave it... Ah, forgive me, lost in thought. I just know the pains that family can bring far to well. But pardon my prying, I just hope you make amends with your brother before he takes some damn fool idea into his head and goes charging off into battle for the family's honor and because his brother is a bookish and spineless wimp and he will defend the families honor even when it means dying cold and alone to far from home. Why? I wish you had said before you...forgive me,I'm rambling. I'm sure Illia would give me a stern talking to if she was here. I hope I haven't distracted you too much. Ah, ah, yes...I noticed that your brother's sword left no farrow in the ground. Prodigiously strong, I take it? And Northern Outpost? Has your father freed one of this research outposts as well, I wonder? They do contain such secrets. I...forgive an old man, I am trying to talk to forget, just making words." Fall back slowly to walk with the Premen.

[Response in Premen tongue, to clarify]
”Hm.. I noted runes on his armor and sword alike, ‘Tis true, But none seemed active at the moment: It could be he IS that strong, As without some form of magic it would be more than passing strange, For his sword to leave no furrow when dragged… And upon reflection, I heard no noise to indicate the sword being dragged, Though it could easily have been muffled by the rain. …Well spotted, Oggroth the Mountain, this ‘Knight Vonjeen’, He seems to have more to him than meets the eye.”

My rumination and praise is well received, Oggroth nodding his head as he falls back into formation with a wide grin, as I then turn to Ugrokk, to see if he spotted anything as noteworthy as Oggroth did. But before I can even speak, Ugrokk notes my gaze directed his way and offers his own observations.

“Warriors seemed to respect.. Vaan-gene? Not the false respect of one who gained power through their heritage, but the hard-won respect of one who proved their worth. To have such respect at such an age, it is assumed the leader is a capable one, both on and off the battlefield. More than that, would only be baseless speculation, our meeting too brief.”

”Hmm.. your appraisal is taken under advisement.”

I conclude my brief exchange with the Premen in their tongue, as I turn my questions back to Dame Valiria, only stopping to consume some metal before I speak in the common tongue, fishing for more information.

”So.. your brother seems a nice lad, Dame Valiria. Is he in command of that mining facility, it’s.. overseer?”

“Indeed. He refused a posting to one of father’s three keeps, even when nominated unanimously by his peers and underlings alike: He claimed he would rather be sure he earned his position, rather than riding on father’s coat-tails.. He can be quite stubborn..”

”If I may ask, why did you reject his offer of escort?”

“The mines are a likely target for further incursions, and he is still young and sentimental: He likely would have made the tactically unsound decision to accompany us himself, despite being the protector of that facility. To avoid having to reject his presence, potentially undermining his authority, I decided it would be better to simply reject the whole of the escort. …That, and Vonjeen takes after father, in that he seems to view me like some delicate flower that must be warded from harm, no matter how many times I prove this concern to be unfounded. …I suppose that is why… forgive me, but I feel I am being overly familiar with someone I only just met: I would be most grateful if we could simply march in silence, I have much on my mind.”

Not wishing to antagonize the person who shall be introducing me to the Blue Knight, I accept her request, and the rest of our journey passes in silence, before-

[19+5+17=41, >10, >20, >30, >35, >40]

I see a collection of shapes moving in the fog, one of them dwarfing my own form: While the Premen move hands to weapons, a massive blue golem festooned with Sapphires and rubies alike emerges from the fog surrounded by Hounds, a heavy cloak untouched by the rain fluttering about the massive figure that overtops me by several meters as it grinds the point of it’s massive sword, larger still than my Edge of Oblivion, into the ground. For a moment the Hounds, those blue-tinged life golems Keddic observed before and described in great detail, reach for weapons as the floating monsters attached to their forms hiss and growl at us, but the massive figure (which I must believe to be a golem) waves it’s free hand at it’s companions, who obediently put up their weapons as Dame Valiria speaks.

“..Father, it is good to see you. I present the Mage Mordre, owner of a Soul Grave, who wishes an audience with you.”

The Blue Knight rubs a hand speculatively against it’s metal chin, a hollow, booming laugh rolling from it’s form to herald it’s response.

“Why hello my little Vali, it is good to see you too. Well, if my daughter is introducing you, I could hardly say no: What brings you to my lands…. Eh, which of you is this ‘Mage Mordre’?”

As the massive metal figure of the Blue Knight, which looks like nothing more than a metal golem greater in size than myself by a considerable margin (at least twenty four feet tall) peers about my group, I wonder at the situation I find myself in.

I doubt he's actually a golem. Possibly a human controlling a Golem-like armor, similar to the description of the Shell of Gavrock? Coloration leads me to believe it to be made of Blue Steel, though it could just be paint or similar.

"That would be me...er, my apologies, I'm not terribly sure on what to call you, not knowing your actual name, sir Knight.

Ah, well, as the kind Dame Valiria said, I am Mage Mordre, operating this golem directly and remotely. I control and operate the Kyogrock Arcanoworks to the north deeper into the Azelhaedran State.

I'd heard of your presence in the area, and thought I should introduce myself, as well as talk on other matters such as trade or alliances.

Can you sense any bood inside the armor? Is it solid metal? hollow? completely undetectable?

He might be controling a golemn from afar, but more likely would be that he was bound to the shell in death. We know that is a reasonably common way to get sentient golems. No need to get jealous till we know for certain.

It would explain why the girl didn't ask about us earlier though. If he IS controlling a golem remotely, you must discuss jovially with him. A touch of hurt pride may be in order, but we should act very interested in a discussion and comparing notes on the subject. Too bad we didn't take the boon to know what we are talking about earlier.
>>
No. 194262 ID: 275a5d

Lets think about it logically: Valiria mentioned that Dulu was strange for being able to talk as a golem. That suggests that the idea of binding a soul to a golem giving it sentience is not normal to them, so thats unlikely to be the case witht hte Blue Knight.

Additionally, long distance golem control is unheard of, so the idea that the Blue Knight developed it in secret without it even being known that such a profound figure had developed such a method seems highly unlikely.

Hence, my theory that it's some form of magically powered armor

(That, and the picture says "Blue Knight GOlem Armor" :p)

Ah, its elementary my boy. If the figure you see before you was simply a shell to hose a man of similar size, then it would be phrased simply as armour, not golem armour. The fact that it is called golem armour shines light on the fact that the man controlling it would need significant magical effects to do so, thereby giving the object the title of 'golem'.

I also have evidence to prove that he is indeed occupying the golem and not controlling it from a concealed location. Other that the fact that armour is something that is worn, Lady Valiria refereed to it as 'father'. Unless this is part of some clever ruse to throw possible assassins off of his true location, it would seem to point to that the armour before us indeed houses her father.

If I am wrong I am going to feel very stupid.

I extend my left hand to the Blue Knight as I motion for the Premen to put away their weapons, and as the Blue Knight takes my offered hand, shaking it firmly, I cast my Magnetomantic senses outward, appraising the form before me. …Hm, I can definitely feel blood, flowing as it would in any normal human body, situated in the chest of this construct before me, in a hollow within the metal (the metal in question wholly Blue Steel) large enough to house a single occupant: This seems to be a Golem Armor, much like the one I have considered forging for Arkus out of the morphic fluid at the Arcanoworks. ..Hm, a means to grant the potency of a golem to an individual warrior intrigues me, and I find my interest in trying my hand at crafting such a thing renewed with this realization, even as the Blue Knight responds while releasing my hand.

”Oh? …Hm, I doubt you managed to hollow out a Soul Grave, Especially at that size, so that makes it unlikely this is a Golem Armor. Likewise, from your phrasing, you imply yourself both here, and not here. Coupled with the fact the Soul Grave itself is talking… Well, short of this being a Sapient Soul Grave, which I find rather unlikely… That would leave only the option of directly interfacing with the Soul Grave, Likely from a distant location, as otherwise what is the point… So, is my guess that you control this golem from afar accurate?”

>>194219
”An astute deduction, sir knight… Ah, forgive me, but I’m not sure what to call you, I have only heard you referenced as the Blue Knight, Or as ‘father’ by your progeny, such as Dame Valiria here.

”My name is Carkiano, though the moniker, That is, the title of ‘Blue Knight’ works equally well, I am most used to being referenced so. So, what brings you to seek a meeting with me, Mage Mordre?”

”Well, I operate Kyogrock Arcanoworks to the north, Likewise in the Azelhaedran State’s… less lawful regions, The same as your own holdings, unless I miss my guess. I’d heard of another individual working to restore order to the State, And I thought I’d introduce myself, get to know my ‘neighbor’, As well as discuss matters of trade, or other endeavors of mutual benefit. Especially sine, if my assumptions are correct, we have a mutual foe, An individual to the north… with a talking Small Tomb in his service.”

At this, Carkiano the Blue Knight makes a clucking noise as he tilts his head to the side and leans in closer, his hollow, booming words sounding far more intent than a moment ago.

”You know something of the one plaguing me? Why, that is… very useful information you possess. If you seek trade and some form of agreement to our mutual benefit… Well, simply say what it is you desire that I might be able to provide, And I would be happy to help you, for more information on this assailant, And whoever guides it. Does this strike you as fair?

Before I have a chance to respond, Dame Valiria speaks up at my side, after politely coughing into her mailed hand to interject back into the conversation.

“Among other things, the Mage Mordre has noted he seeks metals in general, and steel in particular, father.”

”Oh? That I can easily arrange, I have iron and steel alike aplenty, As well as moderate supplies of many other metals, ores and alloys alike: From nickel to copper, magnesium to tantalum, lead to tin… Well, why not simply say what metals you seek, I could part with much, For more information on this… Small Tomb, you said? And the one that guides it: Information for supplies seems a fair barter for us both, Does it not? What say you?

Carkiano seems a forthright and cunning fellow. We should be equally forthcoming. This one will be a good ally, if only because he is reasonable, strong enough to keep the peace in his holdings, and he has iron aplenty.

"Information for metal seems a fair opener to long term trade to me, though I hope we will be able to trade goods for the resources as well at later junctures. Copper and tantalum both would be of immediate use to me, in batch quantity. Nickel, iron to make steel, and alloying magnesium I will need in industrial amounts on an ongoing basis. The story of the talking Small Tomb is tied to my own adventures of late, but a bit of history will make the whole tale clearer. Small Tombs are so numerous because they were easier to make, the driving energies being that of a single hero's soul. In most cases such a soul does not retain volition, the process of entombment slaving the will of the hero to the metal of the golem. But not in all. A strong willed soul can keep his freedom if the mage making his golem is willing to loosen the bonds. Dulu, for that is the name of the soul in the talking Small Tomb, was tough, clever, and dangerous in the flesh. I fought him with this Soul Grave and twice he proved a flexible and inventive enough warrior to severely impair it so that he could quit the field. The third time we tangled, I killed him. Even in death he had a way to flee capture, having submitted to a master in soul magic. His soul fled to his master's sanctuary, where a new Small Tomb was forged around him. When I first met Dulu he was in the employ of a group of bandits in the forests near the border with Duras. The bandits were well organized and under the command of a magnetomancer of considerable talent. Dulu fought my Soul Grave to a stand-still, relying on a morphic weapon, healing potions, preternatural awareness, and fantastic agility. He quit the field only when I began spending some of the more expensive powers my soul grave has for dealing with golems and powerful mages. When I next met Dulu he sought to assassinate Sir Keddic Harksburton The 4th of Castiliathen, who had organized the terrorized villagers of Droba (now styled Trepany) to resist the bandits in the region. I had sought to meet Sir Harksburton anyway, and together we drove Dulu off. The third time I met Dulu he was in the company of Balboa, a man who had slaughtered an entire village in cold blood, down to the last child. Tracks in the village showed that Dulu had no hand in the slaughter, but he did endeavor to protect Balboa when I tracked them both down. They were fleeing to the succor of a rebel-held magic research facility. The State army was assaulting the facility, and I was able to dispatch Balboa and Dulu, and help break the fortifications. This golem is, after all, a siege engine. Several days after Dulu was killed, Sir Keddic had the misfortune of meeting him again. Dulu was this time in a Small Tomb, a masterfully built one at that. Dulu's style as a man favored morphic weapons, and as a golem he is composed of a body of morphic metal, an expensive and time-consuming material to make. He is enchanted to absorb magic energy, and uses the energies to form extra limbs while fighting. Should you need to fight him, overloading him or using no magic at all are the best options. In his second life he retains his preternatural senses and deadly cunning, and is more agile and durable than before. I have little hard proof, but some testimony from interrogations of apprentices who assisted Dulu's latest attack on Sir Keddic and circumstantial notes suggest that Dulu's master is a man of great renown, likely the Archemage Weinsho, though I admit the possibility of someone posing as him. In any case the master has the resources and skills to craft Small Tombs. Circumstantial evidence points toward the master being behind the recent unification of the bandits under strong leaders, as well. If I had harder proof I would present it to the State and my contacts in Mortal Coil."

Additionally, say the following:

"Now then, so that you have some idea as to the nature of my information:

The Golem that has slain your hounds was formerly an extremely skilled mercenary known as Dulu the Golemslayer. I encountered him twice when he was still human, with our second encounter ending with his death. However, his soul was recovered before I could do anything, and he was given dominion over the Small Tomb body he now possesses.

As to its capabilities, Dulu himself possessed an apparently expansive knowledge of how to destroy golems of all sorts, and strength of will and awareness that bordered on the supernatural. In his current body, he is composed of a material known as Morphic Steel, a substance which gives him incredible durability and flexibility, thanks the substance's ability to reshape itself to impressive degrees. At least 3 jewels upon his body allow him to redirect and absorb any magic he comes into contact with, using it to fuel the growth of additional limbs, up to at least 8, which as you're aware is also the number of blades he carries on his person. I've also been informed that he can either turn invisible or teleport, though the report was slightly unclear on that part. Bang, was there anything else you noted in your engagement?"

"Yes, well, Dulu is phenomenally dangerous...but ultimately not the one who should concern you, as you have no way to prevent his soul from being recovered unless I miss my guess. The one who should concern you the most is the individual that did this to him.

Is the information so far as you wished?"

I would recommend against mentioning Weinsho. INformation can't be taken back. We should give info on Dulu, enough to catch interest, and save the ringleader for finishing the deal.

Additional trade can be arranged after we've dealt in info.

[Just double-checking, but you do know that the second encounter you cite for Dulu (at Trepany) never occurred, and is a lie, right? It was an assassin from the Land of Dragons, Luo of the Winding Path, who attacked, Dulu was uninvolved, though he was later cited asking after Mordre in the area. Oh, right. I forgot to suggest this. If we decide to make the Pangolin Golem for Arkus, inscribe the Spatial Distortion runes on the Cockpit-orb-thing. This will ensure he is save from all but the most powerful strikes. Some Rubies that work in a way similarly to Dulus should be put on the Golem and on the cockpit. maybe we can create a new amaranthine Annihilator for Arkus' as well, it would be nowhere near the power of our upgraded one, but it would give him ranged attacks. He could also use the rubies as amplifiers for spells.
In any case, Arkus needs to learn an insta-transportation spell to use if the Golem gets raped, or some manner of rune to do the same thing.

>>194579
[Last I had seen, the plan was to make the Pangolin largely a raged combat specialist, with dozens of hand-cannons built into it’s shell for omnidirectional fire (pop up from under armor plates/scales, fire, then recede back under protection of armor), with two Soul Grave-scale mortar pieces built into each hand, and some Morphic Steel spike and claw setup both for clawed attack in open form, and rolling up into a spiked ball for smashing and impaling stuff. But yeah, Something like the Amaranthine Annihilator could be made, but in absense of Pristine Souls (which work only on Mordre) it will be rather considerably weaker. That, and the Eyes of Winter, the two rubies that are Mordre’s eyes, are exceeded in quality only by the single massive gem topping Arkus’ pilfered yeti shaman staff. …Though you could use that to set up a decent single-beam variant of the Amaranthine Annihilator.]

”As to what I could use in the here and now, Steel is my highest priority, but tin, tantalum, niobium: These I need in smaller amounts than steel or iron, To facilitate research endeavors, as well as nickel, Magnesium and copper: I find myself in need of a great many metals. And so, to facilitate their accrual, I shall tell you all I can of your foe.”

”Indeed, I could supply much of what you seek, I have fairly comprehensive metal trading networks, And it would be a small price to pay for useful information. So, what DO you know of this foe of mine?”

”The story of the talking Small Tomb requires some backstory, So I implore you to bear with me as I set the stage: Small Tombs are much more common than Soul Graves, Largely due to their method of creation: They need but one soul, One of heroic qualities bound within the metal to power the golem, Unlike Soul Graves, which require mass amounts of souls. In most cases, the soul used to power Small Tombs is just that: A power source, and nothing more: But this is not always the case. The Small Tomb that plagues you is powered by the soul of one I know, An individual once known as Dulu the Golemslayer, a dangerous individual. Beyond a plethora o experience facing down golems, he was preternaturally aware, Making him a vexing foe to try to strike down, evading most attacks: This trait has only grown with his transformation into a Small Tomb. I first encountered Dulu in service to some bandits, and still in the flesh he damaged this, The Soul Grave I utilize in a one on one contest with nothing more than a morphic weapon. The contest was close enough at the time that he was able to safely retreat. The second time I encountered him, I was able to slay him with considerable effort, But his soul was able to escape despite his death: ‘Twas after this he became a Small Tomb. When next he was encountered, he demonstrated the power of his new form, Threatening an extensively guarded caravan with a multitude of potent warriors, Before finally being forced to quit the field when those with him were slain. His new form, forged of Morphic Steel, is dangerously durable and flexible alike: I know him to possess a morphic staff that he favors, as well as eight cleavers. While he normally has but two arms, an insidious enchantment can change that: Sapphires embedded in his form guide a form of contact magic absorption, With the energy he takes powering the creation of further arms on his form. Thus far, he has been seen to have up to eight arms that he can use quite readily, Though I do not know if that is his limit, or simply the extent of what he revealed. Due to his focus on melee combat, it is recommended to either avoid magic use, Or to use so much that you might overload his enchantments, preferably at a distance. As to whom the Small Tomb Dulu serves, I have little hard evidence, But considering his soul to be housed in a newly made Small Tomb, With his mind intact, no less, coupled with testimonials from captured accomplices, I suspect him to serve a mage talented in both Golemcraft and Soul Magic. While I cannot yet prove it, I suspect this mage to be Archmage Weinsho, Though I admit there is a possibility someone is using his name falsely. If I had more substantial evidence, I would bring my claims before the State, As well as my contact in the Mortal Coil, but Dulu’s master has been fairly careful, So for now I have only my suspicions.”

The whole time I spoke, Carkiano patiently waited, attending to my words with a singular focus as he periodically nodded the head of his golem armor. As I conclude my comprehensive report on Dulu the Golemslayer, Golemslain and Golemformed, the Blue Knight takes a few moments before he finally responds.

”…Well, that IS some rather critical information you have given me, And I shall be sure to take it under advisement for future dealings with this foe. Steel you shall have aplenty, and supplies of tin, nickel, copper, and magnesium, All can be supplied regularly for what you offered me: However… Tantalum and Niobium are rare enough that I can only offer a one-time supply of, Lest I drain my own resources, for someone I just met. …Hm. Your Soul Grave seems well-forged, and your allies here look competent: Mayhap you could be of further use: I am trying to track the strange red life golem, The one that sprouts blades from it’s form, if the reports are to be believed: Care to join me in hunting it down? Ah, and I’ll need to know where you are based, So that I can have caravans sent to give you the metal I promised.”

”I occupy a research outpost to the north, Kyogrock Arcanoworks. Most of the towns and villages north of here could point you to it, I’ve had dealings with the majority of them. As to the life golem hunt…”

Well, most of the important ones have their own distinct fighting style that would only be hampered by such an armour. But it is not a bad idea at all. Just kind of strange to pour the resources into such a fighty armor for such a "Stay in the capital and research" kind of mage.

It might be Aurockoth, if the title of The Living Sword is to be taken rather literally. I don't recall Keddic telling us he was red, but I don't remember anything saying he wasn't. ”I cannot help but note the description you give is familiar, Bearing a strong resemblance to a life golem one of my comrades hunts: If it is the same beast, he would not only be more than willing to assist, But his knowledge of the creature would likely prove most useful.”

”Oh? And who is this comrade of yours?”

”Have you ever heard of Keddic Harksburton?

”A Harksburton? I certainly know of the family, Talented warriors from Castiliathe, one and all.. If this one’s name is Keddic… which one is he? The third?”

”The fourth, actually.”

”Ah-ha, I had wondered why I had heard so little about the current heir: I’d feared he had either retired or chosen to seek wars in far-off lands.. It is good to hear the Harksburton line is well, I fought alongside his father before, And while I have not met him, I have heard nothing but praise of the fourth Keddic…”

Carkiano the Blue Knight stops speaking, as he taps the hilt of his massive sword, and ruminates aloud.

”If a Harksburton would be interested in the death of a life golem, Enough that you’d recommend his presence, coupled with the being’s use of blades.. …You suspect this life golem to be The God of Blades, Aurockoth?”

At this comment, I see the soldiers about the Blue Knight visibly become stricken with fear, flinching from the very name, Dame Valiria’s face going pale with worry… and Bang sporting a growing manic grin, a wild anticipation in his eyes. …It would seem the name Aurockoth is rather well known.

”The description sounds fairly similar to the one Keddic has given, So I consider it a possibility, that the life golem you seek and Aurockoth are the same. I do not assume this to be completely accurate, but in case it is that creature, It would be best to wait for Keddi-“

”If it is Aurockoth, I want nothing to do with it, And I’ll count myself lucky if it passes through my lands: This is not a fight I could hope to win, facing the Living Sword, No matter how many resources I brought to bear. …I thank you for your words of caution, for if this assailant truly… Truly is the Reaper Made Flesh, then you have saved my life, And that of those with me now… I suppose it was only a matter of time, that monster always seeks war, And the Azelhaedran State has been growing more turbulent as the days pass: ‘Tis only natural it finally comes here…”

The warriors about the Blue Knight look relieved, as if a death sentence was repealed at the last moment. …If Aurockoth is such a monster, what makes Keddic think he could slay it? I yearn to learn more about this Aurockoth, since it seems the Blue Knight is familiar with it, as well as the Harksburton family: His insight could prove valuable.

”There is no guarantee this is Aurockoth, We only have the one report to go on-“

”Part of me already suspected, already feared it to be the case: Your words have simply cemented them: I know of no other life golems, That could ravage my followers and the surrounding landscape so: Bodies, armor, swords, mounts, trees.. even the earth itself, Rent apart as if by impossibly large and sharp swords and spears, More than a hundred men dead before they could even shift from marching formation: Either it was Aurockoth, or someone has crafted another nightmarish life golem. …I had been trying to convince myself I was over-thinking it, But with your own appraisal I find my doubts cleared: This must be Aurockoth. …I suppose I shall have to order patrols to the west curtailed, Lest I lose more to his wandering battlelust-induced rampages. …Hmm, maybe if I have my holdings disarm, put up a more peaceful appearance, He would pass them by as to insignificant to attract his notice…”

As the Blue Knight continues to ruminate, Bang sidles up beside me, and covertly confides in me.

“Hey, if you want to hunt down Aurockoth, I’m game: Next best thing to fighting a Core Being, fighting a living legend like that.”

Hm…

What should I say or do?
Do I have anything more I wish to say or ask of the Blue Knight?
And how do I respond to Bang’s comment?
Or should I do something else?

"I don't blame you for being wary of Aurockoth, he is a fearsome beast. And I won't ask you to expend your forces to fight against a monster like him. Instead, I propose a different approach that might solve a good portion of our problems: Consolidate your forces and occupy territory near the Arcanoworks. Naturally you'll have the State to deal with, but I can vouch for you if you are willing to hear me out. I wouldn't say that I am understaffed, rather I am outnumbered by enemies in this region. The three most pending threats to my operation, and by proxy yours and the state's- Dulu's master, Aurockoth, and a core being trapped under the earth near Trekel. At the behest of the state, I have abstained from attempting to destroy the core being. Not that I don't trust them to do their job... I just don't trust the fact that they might be interrupted while performing the task. I cannot assault Dulu's master until I have conclusive evidence of just WHO he is, and Aurockoth is likewise unchallenged because it would be a foolish pursuit to fight an opponent with such destructive force at this junction. What I'm asking of you, Carkiano, is to help me defend our respective outposts and villages. From what I have witnessed and learned so far, neither of us can expand in the Azelhaedran State without suffering terrible losses from foes beyond our reach. If we work together, we can find a way to fend off Dulu and his master's cronies, and possibly deter Aurockoth from attacking our forces further. What are your thoughts on this? Have I overstepped my boundaries for a first meeting? I ask so much of you because I wish to lessen the amount of battles we will have to fight in order to bring some semblence of peace to the Azelhaedran State."

Suggest to Bang and The Blue Knight that, with our forces, focus, and a plan, we could do significant damage to the Mortal Blade. We know that Bang and Keddic would both jump at the chance, but admit that it would not be without cost. Tell Blue and Bang that we will contact Keddic and - as he has the most experience with this living demon - we will ask if he feels ready for such a confrontation. If not, then we won't press the issue. If he does, would Sir Carkiano be willing to assist. To fight beside another Harksburton again would be a great honor, would it not? And even if we should need to flee, at least striking a blow without dying would be a fine honor.

I can't think of anything else to ask. Somehow get him a permanent ally, but I can't for the life of me figure out how.

Yeah, agree. I still think we should Tell Keddic, and let him decide. I mean, this -is- the monster he's been sworn to hunt down.

I am unsure if we should. Withholding such a fact from a friend seems... bad. And there will likely be hell if he finds out we did not tell him. And yet, I do not think he could win. He could not best even Dulu. I do not wish to see Keddic die. I also doubt we could assist him to any great effect.

Oh, neither do I. The last time Keddic thought about loosing, he really didn't feel up with a Aurockoth duel. And, as much as his blood boils, I doubt he is up for a duel now. But we must tell him, so he can be ready.

I honestly have the lurking feeling that the Living Reaper is heading towards Keddic as we speak, too.

>>194702
Hmm… I know Bang here would rather obviously be amenable, and Keddic has clear reasons to be involved… While facing Aurockoth now may be a foolish choice, that does not mean I cannot start preparing to face him: I find Keddic to be a valuable asset, and helping him slay AUrockoth would likely cement his will to serve me, not to mention the likely ludicrously potent soul that could be gained from such a struggle. Hm, so, myself, Bang, and Keddic, as the founding core of an anti-golem (more specifically, anti-Aurockoth) group seems a fine starting point, but I shall need to accrue more resources and capable (and willing) warriors to participate in such a fight. A thing to consider.

[SIDE QUEST ACCEPTED: TO SLAY THE GOD OF BLADES]
[Current proposed party: Mordre, Keddic, Bang]

>>194716
”All in due time, Bang.”

After doing what I can to verbally placate Bang’s unending lust for battles against foes of as much lethality as possible, I turn back to Carkiano, a new thought entering my mind.

”Carkiano, I have a request to make: Could a joint training session be staged, Between your hounds, and my own men? I find my more conventional soldiers in need of… Seasoning, and more varied contests will give them that.”

”-Hm? Oh, yes, certainly. I assume at the Arcanoworks, then? I shall send what Hounds I can spare along with the first caravan, Though I could only loan them to you for two days at the most: I have a limited number of Hounds, after all.”

>>194717
”I thank you for your generosity. I also find it necessary to note something: I have resources of my own to offer in trade, Bronze, rubies, and hand-cannons, and I wonder: What amongst that would you wish to trade for?”

”Bronze is useless to me, but rubies… Well, I certainly need not tell you the value of gems, eh? ..But what is this ‘hand-cannon’ you speak of?”

”I suppose you could consider it a man-portable artillery piece, With the ability to convert most metals into more ammunition, As an inbuilt magical function. They are quite devastating.”

”…Portable artillery, you say? I find myself intrigued. I’d need to see such a thing in action first, But if it performs admirably enough, I could offer much for such weapons, As well as for rubies…. I could even offer to have Golem Armor cast, For your followers: I imagine such would do? Please note I would not be able to replicate my own armor, It’s materials and crafting far too consuming for mass production… But nevertheless, potent armors could be made, To armor your forces: Just be aware the crafting is slow, So individual batches would be small, dozens at the most. And before I could even begin such an undertaking, I’d need to see that both your rubies and.. hand-cannons are worth it.”

”A fair stipulation: Mayhap some samples could make their way back, When your first caravan to the Arcanoworks returns to you.”

[Possible trade of Rubies/Hand-Cannons for Mass-Production Golem Armor discovered]
[To clarify, these golem armors would be the size of power armor, not full-sized Golem Armors like what Carkiano currently is employing. Still highly durable, and enhances strength.]

I deliberate on the matter, of whether I should tell Keddic, but ultimately decide that deceiving him would likely backfire: Besides, unlike Bang he seems to demonstrate at least some modicum of restraint, so I doubt he would simply go haring off to face down Aurockoth unless he thought he at least had a chance at victory. …That, and I have a sneaking suspicion that Aurockoth may in fact be here for Keddic himself. I resolve to mention this matter to all my followers when next we are alone, so that Jojo can discern this knowledge and bestow it on Keddic. Speaking of that….

”Hmm… well, the day grows old, and night approaches: The rains will get even colder, and I doubt either of our groups Would appreciate being trapped in the wet chill for too long. I must say, this has been a very interesting meeting: Thank you, Vali, for bringing Mordre to me: I feel this to be the start of a very beneficial relationship, For the both of us. So, unless you wish to avail yourself of my hospitality, And travel farther south to one of my holdings to rest, I fear this will be where we part ways for now: I have much to attend to, in no small part thanks to what I have learned here. So, unless there was anything else…”

As Carkiano trails off, I see him glance at his daughter, who pointedly moves closer to our group: It would seem she feel inclined to travel with us for now, if we choose to part ways with her father. I find her reticence to return to his holdings intriguing, but not nearly so intriguing as what I have learned of my southern neighbor, or the goods I have secured shipments of/the potential to trade rubies and hand-cannons for Golem Armor.

What should I say or do? Should I travel with the Blue Knight further south, or should I return to my own holdings?
[Last chance for questions/conversation with the Blue Knight unless you travel with him]

I believe we have a surplus of food. Perhaps we could talk about trading that.

Also, side note, but we should either get more mage skins to get kyorto or find some more mages to work for us...arkus by himself is too little for all the various projects we've given him....It will be tough considering we'd need the mage to be extremely trustworthy b/c they may find out about our secret...

Also...new thread time soon?

Dozen golem armors.. cool

Who should we assign them to? Maybe we can ask for special armor designed for mages?
So Arkus, Jez, Jojo, maybe our 3 humans who are at special training program (forgot their names), Lord Dregas (golem armor wearing golem operator) ... hmm, who else do we have who could benefit from this?

What can we find on the borders of the Blue Knight's territory? Any chance we can pick up the skin of an unwanted mage or a good battle with plenty of spoils? If we can expand our holdings somehow then that would be good.

As much as I'd like to travel south and converse with the Blue Knight, Dame Valiria does not seem to wish it, and Carkiano likely has much to take care of. We likewise, must return to evaluate our projects and drill every last crumb of info about Aurockoth and his abilities out of our knowledgable companions, and make sure Harksburton doesn't go haring of when he hears of this turn of events.

Also, offer lodging and supplies to Dame Valiria for as long as she feels she needs to be in the north. It's the least you can offer for helping to facilitate these arrangements. Promise that we'll not pry into her business, but to feel free to ask anything.

Also, consider the Rune Sword we took from Daobo the Bloody. Consider inscribing the runes onto the Edge of Oblivion once we've discerned their purpose, and gifting the blade to Keddic.

And check on that goddamn Core Beings progress from maximum possible range.

SHIT. Nearly forgot.

"Given the generous hospitality you've shown me, I feel it only right that I warn you...

Aurockoth is not the only major danger besetting this area. I'm not sure if the State wants me spreading this information, so please try to keep it under your hat to a degree, and if anyone asks, you did not hear it from me...

Near the Village of Trekel, a Core Being is growing. I discovered it and began efforts to hamper it's growth, but it is still making progress. The State has appropriated the site and refuses my aid, so keeping myself appraised of it's status is difficult, and I still work to think of a way to remove its threat.

As your lands are in the potential hazard area, and given that you have been nothing if not kind, I simply felt it would be a failure on my part if I did not warn you."

Food Trading is a good idea. More mages, less so. All we need is a group of people to listen to Arkus who he can bark orders to while he studies.

But anyway, please ask the Blue Knight about Alexander Armstrong. I have some worry that Alexander is trying to reclaim outposts from him. If not, he might give us some direction to meet Alexander - if everyone feels up to continuing south and trying to find this mysterious man with his powerful morphic magic. We should, however, send a message to Keddic and make sure everything is ok in the Arcanoworks.

And one idle suggestion: Can Jojo and Ulzrick possibly search for Lu Bu to deliver him some rather creepy-but-hopeful message that the Gift Horse Golem wishes to congratulate Lu Bu on his victory, and we will one day come to visit. Or something like that, just so we know if Lu Bu won his duel, and that we now have an emperor as a friend. Who could one shot the Living Reaper for us, if we needed it

>>194865
See, the only one I think would work would be maybe Lord Dregas. Arkus and Jojo are mages and Jojo isn't gonna get into the front lines and Arkus prefers to just one-shot his foes if he fights at all, and I doubt either would like to have a suit of armor. Ellorika - maybe - but Vespinto and Ulzrick are too stealth-based for big suits. Jezebel, well, we haven't really gotten any good fighting info out of her. She could do well with one, she might not.

However, having golem-suits doesn't mean we need heroes to pilot them, or have heroes in them yet. Get three-to-five. If nothing, we now have a small squad of golem-wearing fighters.

And can we try and get some Ham and some Soap? We're rather close to our next level in both and I would like to see what Soap unlocks.

[For those wanting more mages that could be trusted with your secret, consider this: Lenryt is one of the seven Grand Elder Mages of the Mortal Coil. Next time she has a job, you would be completely within your rights to, assuming successful completion of whatever she requests, asking for some trustworthy mages, as she would likely be able to accommodate that as well. Conversely, you could ask her to help expedite the release of Kyorto from her tower, if you want to go that route.]

>>194850
”Ah, before I forget, there is another resource I could trade: Do you have any interest in foodstuffs, or-“

”On that subject, I have all I could ever need… Well, unless you have some specialty food.

”..Actually, I can think of one: Perchance do you favor spicy goods? Blair the pepper pickler has some marvelous crafts, That any who fancy spicy foods would likely swoon over.”

”Ho-hoooo? Interesting. Like with the hand-cannons, I’d need a sample first, But that certainly sounds like something I lack. Send some example back when the first caravan arrives, And I’ll let you know if I could use any.”

>>194931
”A curiousity plagues me, that I hope you could alleviate: I heard that Alexander Armstrong, one of the State’s military officers, Is active in these general areas. Have you run into this individu-“

”..Yes, that one. I have run into him a time or two, But for now he seems willing to leave me be… Though I know not how long that will last: He is quite the patriot, and anyone possessing an outpost but a State representative… Seems to aggravate him… which he displays by flexing menacingly.. Prior to meeting him, I was unaware one even could flex in a threatening manner.

>>194906
”..Ah, one more thing I must mention, In light of how generously hospitable you have been: North of Trekel, there is a Core Being partly manifested. I was the one to discover it, but currently the State has… Decided they shall handle the situation. Still, considering how much of a threat this could pose, I feel it only right to warn you: I only ask you not mention you heard of it from me. As of yet, it poses no immediate risk, But… this one seems irregular, trying to circumvent it’s restrictions: Despite being trapped still in a cellar, it is trying to manifest about it’s prison, Gaining freedom without having to wait to be let out, Or for the door barring it to rot away.”

The Blue Knight, who had been moving to leave, turns to face me sharply, and surprises me with a bow, after a moment of careful consideration.

”..Well. I thank you for the wealth of knowledge, And I hope you shall find my return gifts to be satisfactory. Largely due to all I have learned here, I must depart immediately, As there is much to attend to. …And, as it seems Vali… Will not be accompanying me, I ask that, should she choose to stay with you, You provide her with suitable lodgings: A father worries, you know. …It was most illuminating to meet you, mage Mordre, And I imagine we shall have a great many further dealings in the future.”

As The Blue Knight’s party departs, I consider all I have learned, and decide that I should return to the Arcanoworks: Trade is going to be picking up, and I would like to see for myself what has happened in my absence. I start our group marching north, and return to the cave we used as shelter earlier just before nightfall, as the moderate rain becomes a full-scale downpour. Hopefully, the rest of the trip home shall be uneventful. …But the greatest thought that occupies my mind, is that with food having grown so plentiful amongst those who are beholden to me, and metal, both for the crafting of equipment in general and hand-cannons in particular incoming….

I may be ready to establish initial supply lines to Mordreden, the initial reason I even came to the Azelhaedran state.

Slowly but surely, my rise to power is coming together, with my secret still largely intact. …Excellent.
