>a gender would be nice.
Technically, I have no gender. My kind does not reproduce. You may choose to think of me as whichever gender you prefer.
>What are the limits of your magic, and the limits of magic in general?
Magic is the art of transforming and animating objects and forces. It is controlled by runes that bind and direct energy. It can change things from one form to another, bring life to lifeless things, and (much more easily) bring death to living things. It always requires a writing surface and a source of power. I know little more than that.
My own enchantments are written on a stone where an ordinary creature's heart would be. There is no longer anyone on the island who understands them.
>what are all your passive abilities? you told us you can sense family members, but what else?
I can enter the form you see now, with all the mass and strength of a creature this size.
I can simply shrug off many kinds of damage and recover from nearly anything, given enough time and energy, as long as my stone is not damaged. It is enchanted to be practically indestructible. I am somewhat vulnerable to fire.
I am fast and nearly tireless, but I was designed when the land was still in one piece, so I have no means of travel other than walking and climbing. I cannot fly.
As a magical creature, I gain energy from weather, from fear in my enemies, and from feelings of safety in my family. There is little of any of those tonight. Fortunately, it will be a long time before I run low on energy.
My hearing, night vision, and sense of smell are sharper than those of ordinary people, though not exceptionally so.
I can sense which members of the royal family are near, and roughly in which direction, though this ability has a fairly short range - about the width of an island. My Prince is already out of range, and I cannot sense him. It is not a pleasant feeling.
I also know a few minor spells - I can light small fires, shatter small objects, and create a small light source. Like any magic, these require a surface to write on.
