I trail after Violet as she flails around the house. She tries to heave a hay bale to the door, gives up, finds Lucy’s leash and collar, tries to hook the lead on my collar, fails spectacularly, then starts crying into her hands on the bed.

At least Lucy’s alive, although it sounds like she was found out and turned over to the authorities. Also, while Violet is trying to capture me, it doesn’t seem like she’s doing it for Gargill.

On a pragmatic side, she might spill more details.

>Pat her
I jump up on the bed and put my hand on Violet’s shoulder. She might be a nosy predator who clearly has some kind of complex about my penis, but I can sympathize with what she’s going through. Not every snake can be as smart and impressive as Lucy.

I flinch when she reaches out to cling to me and try to relax when she starts to pet my soft fur. I’ve been in her grasp before, she’s probably not going to hurt me.

Violet finally dries her eyes and sits up. She keeps running her hand down my spine as she gets ahold of herself.

“Can I put that leash on now, Rudger? I can take you to my house, it’s a lot like this one, you’ll like it.”

>A
I’m dying to hear more of what Violet knows about Lucy. I can pretend to go along with her for a bit, just until I’ve gathered all my intel. Who knows, she might have her own set of knives I can pinch when I leave.

Leash loop in one hand, loose clump of hay in the other, Violet walks me a few streets and turns away, to what is basically an identical house. Her furniture and lawn plants are different, but otherwise it’s a comforting familiarity. She ties my leash to the sofa leg and makes several more trips to bring armfuls of hay.

While she’s gone, I unhook the leash fastener, locate all the exits, make note of her single butcher knife hanging in the kitchen, and her short bed. Every time I hear her approaching the house, huffing and puffing, I get back in position.

She finally collapses on the couch. “Well! That should be enough for you, right? Oh, let me give you a little bowl of water…”

She returns with the water and I wait for her to release me. She doesn’t. Does she know I have to use the bathroom pretty often? If I hadn’t been taking my own lawn breaks I would have made a mess by now.

I’m debating whether to put a few pellets on the floor to prove my point when the doorbell rings. Violet sighs and gets to her feet to answer it.

“Mrs. Green, I haven’t seen you since I visited your house in my school years! Have you heard about what happened to Lucy? The police visited me this morning, I couldn’t believe it.”

“An officer visited me as well, I told him Lucy’s been acting strange since her husband passed, but nothing near murder! My poor hatchling, she’s been locked up in jail with no one to comfort her.”

Murder? Oh no–she must have killed the Gargill employee! But what happened to the women she was trying to save? Did they escape or did the police catch them?

I don’t have much time to think when an older snake who resembles Lucy, must be her mom, and Violet come back into the living room.

“What is that?” Mrs. Green asks, pointing a finger at me accusatorily.

“That’s Lucy’s pet rabbit, I couldn’t leave him alone to starve. When Lucy finishes her trial she can take care of him again.”

“He’s the one that turned my Lucy strange! Why, I ran into her out in town some time ago and she kept going on and on about him, even though it’s terribly improper to have unfixed prey in the house. You ought to get him taken care of while she isn’t here to argue.”

“Well…He’s been naughty before but I don’t want to go against Lucy’s wishes. It might be better to have him dethumbed.” Violet gives me a guilty look.

Maybe they'll be convinced not to dethumb you if you can display your skill at chess? Clearly Lucy hasn't done so because you wouldn't be able to pick up the pieces without them.

Also gesture towards the restroom. If neither of them know how to care for you, they have no business making you unable to do any basic self-care.

Your defense right now is to look meek and scared. Not as though you understand what she's saying, but just afraid of her angry tone. Green is a lost cause, but if you elicit Violet's sympathy you should be alright. She's certainly not going to maim you right there if you don't seem to be actively escaping

Yeah, trying to look smart right now doesn't seem like the play. Mrs. Green certainly won't have the same response as Lucy, and we don't know about Violet.

Either way, they would need an appointment with that vet to have it done. If Violet makes the wrong call, we bolt.

I forgot how awful predators can be. When I talked to her, Minnie tried to assure me that her owners aren’t bad people, they just don’t understand that prey are people, but after meeting someone like Lucy, it’s hard for me to accept that narrative.

>Look meek and scared
Violet would need to take me to the vet to maim me, and I can escape if she ever tries that. In the meantime I just have to be patient with her airheadedness.

I press myself against the back wall, tuck my hands at my stomach, and stare at Violet with my big sad eyes.

“I’ll-I’ll think about it, in the meantime he’s probably as shocked as we are.” Violet stutters. “Can I offer you a pinkie, ma’am?”

“Oh, I suppose. Thank you dear.” Mrs. Green huffs.

They bustle into the kitchen and I relax slightly. I eat some hay and make an orderly pile of poop on the floor while I listen to them gossip.

There isn’t much new information, the snakes don’t even know the real reason Lucy went to that house. They do say that Lucy is being held at the county jail, in another town, which means my brothers and I would have a hard time trying to rescue her.

I wrinkle my nose at the smell of the dead mouse. Best not think about it.

Finally, Mrs. Green leaves and Violet gets a chance to check on me.

“Rudger, what’s that nasty smell? My goodness, is that your waste? I didn’t know prey had to use the bathroom so often.”

I tug on the leash and Violet frowns at me.

“Now mister, I don’t want you running away or causing trouble if I let you go, you hear?”

I give her another big pathetic look.

“Alright, alright, here.”

She unhooks the lead and I carefully walk toward her bathroom. She watches me do my business in the tub.

“Oh, Lucy must have trained you. That’s good, I didn’t want you to make a mess in my house.”

She bends down to scoop me into her arms and I allow her to haul me to the sofa, where she puts on the radio and starts to pet me.

>Lucy is being held at the county jail, in another town, which means my brothers and I would have a hard time trying to rescue her.
Even if we were able to rescue her, housing a snake among the rabbit rebels would be a daunting challenge. You would need to hunt down other rodents for her to eat.

I think we should follow your dream about the wolf face. Maybe you've been gifted the power of prophecy and Gargill really does have ties to the mammals?

If we can find something to incriminate Gargill or frame him for a crime, maybe the problems it would cause him would make it harder for him to press on Lucy's court case, and harder for him to interfere with you and your brothers.

Scan the room a bit from Violet's lap. Look through any open windows in view. Lucy's house was ransacked by someone looking for you, is Violet going to be safe if whoever that was looks for you here? You should be ready to leave at the first sign of trouble, but try to get a better idea of what happened and where Lucy is before then.

>Will Gargill look for me here?
They might, which means I have to stay vigilant.

>Scan the room
I already toured Violet’s house and yard while she was getting hay from Lucy’s house this afternoon. Since it has the same layout, I’m familiar with all possible escape routes. The knife in the kitchen is the best thing I could take with me if I left for good.

>What’s on the radio?
The usual war news, broken up by propaganda and cheery jingles.

>What I know so far
Lucy went to see the Gargill worker, who also happened to be a snake. They argued and at some point Lucy bit and killed him. Somehow the police found out and captured her, and Gargill was informed as well. That night, someone searched Lucy’s house and took the knives.

>What can I do?
I want to visit the scene of the crime to search for clues about the rabbits, which Root can help me with. Grass would like to attack reptiles and could be convinced to target Gustave himself. Sky can provide weapons and tools, and all might be daring enough to return to the factory for a rescue mission, or to search the offices for incriminating evidence.

I hate to admit it, but Violet’s good with her hands. While I’ve been stewing on her lap, I’ve been getting a deluxe massage. She knows how to scratch at the base of my ears and rub my shoulders. I turn my head to give her better access to my chin and she coos at me like I’m a baby.

I want to relax completely, but I’m scared that if I get aroused she’ll want to cut off my balls. But maybe if I show Violet I’m enjoying myself she’s more likely to be empathetic to rabbits and my cause? Wait, does this mean I’m being disloyal to Lucy?

Well…she knows I’m close with my brothers. Rabbits can love lots of people, being nice to Violet doesn’t mean I like Lucy less.

I arch my back into Violet’s palm and she blushes and shifts her thighs. What?

Not every lonely female snake can be as interested in rabbits as Lucy is, can they? It’s true Violet was weirdly into watching me masturbate the day I ran away and met Minnie, maybe it’s a repression thing. I don’t want to seduce her, but I can play up the affectionate pet act if it makes her happy.

I knead her thighs with my paws and purr. Violet plants a kiss on my head and squeezes me in a tight hug. I crane my neck to check for a boner. Well, there’s a bit of chub, but as long as I face down or away she shouldn’t notice.

Her fingers pinch gently down either side of my spine, which feels really nice. I nuzzle her hand with genuine affection the next time it comes near my face. Sheesh, if Grass could see me now he’d be so mad. Poor guy doesn’t know what he’s missing.

Violet finally sets me aside, turns off the radio, and goes to the phone.

“Hello, please connect me to the doctor’s office…Yes this is Violet Beauregard, I’d like to make an appointment with Dr. Duerf for the soonest warm day, if he’s available...Yes, that’s perfect, thank you.”

Oh, she’s going there to get her ‘treatment’, isn’t she? I guess I’m just irresistible. After some polite goodbyes the viper comes back to sit next to me on the couch.

“I suppose I’d better get ready for bed.” she says, out loud, to no one in particular. “Rudger, where will you sleep? I have a cushion you might like, here.”

She puts a soft, silk pad on the couch and gives me a little wave goodbye before going to her bedroom. I listen closely as she shuts the door and settles into her covers.

What should I do tonight? I don’t know which reptiles have good night vision, so I’ll be on high alert for any suspicious sounds if I go out.

I suspect Gargill will be watching the dead snake's house for rabbits, if he suspects Lucy of working with them, so we shouldn't go there. We should start scoping out the factory for possible entries and exits and for surveillance.

We want to do that from afar, though. Are there any lakes nearby? Lakeside residents often keep binoculars to look at the boats on the water or the far shores. If not, we could snoop around Violet's house for anything useful. Just make sure she's asleep first and stay quiet about it.

>Did Violet call the vet?
The vet is Dr. Alfie, so I think she was talking to a reptile doctor. There’s no way of making sure of this, since I think phones work by linking two lines via an operator, not by dialing in a specific number. If Violet tries to take me somewhere tomorrow I’ll just pretend I want to stay at the house or run if necessary.

Using what Grass and Sky told me, I consider the layout of the town. I want to investigate the factory, but I don’t like the idea of going there at night alone without friends or weapons.

I wait for Violet to fall asleep, slide off my cushion, and leap up on the kitchen counter to look at the knife more closely. It’s sharp on one side, basically a sword in my hands. Should I take it and go outside to explore or sleep on my lovely comfy cushion?

What if instead of the large butcher knife, and considering all the knives in the home were taken (probably for evidence), what if instead, we take something like a glass bottle, break it, and use that as an improvised weapon. sharp glass can be dangerous. Nobody is gonna notice a glass bottle going missing except Lucy.

If there is no bottle, I dunno, use a glass cup. Might not be as powerful, but still sharp.

whatever you use, just break it outside where no one can hear it, away from the house. Broken shards near the home could be seen as evidence.

No, which is inconvenient if I’m trying to find dirt on Gargill from documents, or communicate with reptiles via anonymous messages. It doesn’t impact my day-to-day life, but I can see how it’d be really useful longer term.

>Don’t take the knife
It’s hefty and awkward and I’m planning to scout tonight, not fight. I set it back in place and jump down to the floor.

I carefully open the back door and sneak between yards towards Lucy’s house. I hide in a mostly covered spot and eat grass while I wait for a car to appear.

No one comes to ransack the place a second time. Once I get bored and test the doorknobs, I learn both entrances are locked! Violet must have had a spare key.

I can see most of the inside through all the big windows, but it hurts that I can’t even go in anymore. This is the house where I learned to play chess and ate a bunch of delicious food I’d never seen before and felt happy and safe.

“You didn’t bring back a glass cup or something we can use?” he asks blearily.

“What? No, I’m-I’m gathering intel. I’m going to find out where the police station is and then I’ll keep Violet company during the day until she goes to the doctor.”

“Uhmmm, ‘kay. You said she’s another snake? Stay safe.”

I head back toward town. I don’t hear or see a single reptile all the way to the street where I came with Lucy to the vet. The biggest buildings are here, the way they block out the sky makes me nervous.

“There’s a light on in two places, and I go up the windows to look inside. The bigger building looks like the vet’s office, but with a long bench thing instead of a raised table, and the other building just has desks and one solitary lizard snoozing by the phone.

The vet's office... they might have records of does scheduled to be spayed, which Gargill will be pushing right now, but the lack of literacy puts a wall in the way of that, too.

It’s a separate spot from Dr. Alfie’s. It could technically be another vet’s office? It looks like they deal with larger animals though.

>Reptile on guard?
The building with the sleepy guy doesn’t have any signs that give away its purpose. There isn’t anything for sale inside anyway, so I’m pretty sure this is the police station. A town like this probably doesn’t get much crime, so it makes sense why they’re only one lizard on night duty.

That’s reassuring. Even on a warm night like this, in the densest part of town, there isn’t much danger of being seen.

I could go further…all the way to the factory. No, I did enough for tonight, I better go back to Violet’s house and rest.

>Steal a gun
It’s a crazy idea, but I kind of like it. The guards at the factory all had guns, although I never saw one used. Much easier to assassinate a reptile from a safe distance away instead of having to get in stabbing range.

>Watch Violet
Like Lucy, she’s kind of aimless on cool days. She puts on a thick dress and languishes on the sofa. I try to entertain her by jumping around the furniture, but after watching a while she just sighs and stares longingly at a photo of a male reptile who I assume is her husband.

>Find a boardgame
The cool weather feels great to me, so I’m in a generous mood. Violet needs something to take her mind off things, and I go to her shelf to look for something fun.

>Chess check: Failure
I don’t see a familiar checkered board anywhere, only a fresh deck of cards and a bag of dice. I don’t know any games to play with those, but I take the box of cards to Violet and prod her leg.

“What is it Rudger? Do you like these? They have nice pictures on them, look.” Violet shows me some cards with black and green colored lizards in fancy hats and clothes. I leap up to her side on the sofa to get a better look.

“There’s familiar letters in the corners of the cards, but I don’t know what they are. I learn over Violet’s lap and scrunch my brow to try and commit the symbols to memory. She gasps and starts petting my back.

I can’t help thinking about mating. I don’t think it’d take much to have this pretty snake under me. It worked for Lucy, maybe it would help my mission if I did the same for Violet?

A. Focus on the cards
B. Seduce Violet

No, I really shouldn’t get distracted. Learning some numbers and letters is way more important to the mission, and who knows how Violet would react if I kissed her or something. If we can’t talk to each other, we better not have sex.

I take my hands off her legs and point at the cards insistently. I try to keep my hips turned away from her huge eyes.

“Do you want to play a game? Lucy said you could play chess, so cards shouldn’t be too hard.” Violet slides off the sofa onto the floor and starts shuffling the deck. “Let’s start with Crazy Eights, that’ll be fun.”

I eagerly join her on the ground. Violet deals me a hand of six cards, flips a card off the top of the deck, and puts a card from her hand on top of it.

Uh…is she not going to give me any instructions? I pick something random and toss it on the pile.

“No no Rudger! That’s a scale, we’re playing clovers.” Violet nudges my card back toward me patronizingly. “Do you have a five? See how there are five clovers here? One two three four five! You can play a five of any suit or match the suit.”

Oh, I get it, we’re counting. I know how to do that, although that doesn’t work with the cards with pictures.

I study my hand until I’m interrupted. “Rudger, let me see, oh, you don’t have anything you can play so you have to draw cards from the deck.”

I sigh and do as she says. This is a trivial game compared to chess, and I master it once Violet actually tells me all the rules. There’s not much strategy involved, but since my attention is split on learning my numbers and four letters, I still have fun.

I’m the one who has to stop first to use the bathroom and eat. Violet looks a little disappointed but she cleans up the cards and goes back to resting on the sofa until evening falls and she goes to bed.

What should I do tonight?

We need to plan this out, see if the sleepy guard is there again, find possible ways in. Then we'll need to consult with your warren about the plan to get a GUN and raid the factory to rescue some does.

We will need info on the police station AND the factory before we set this in motion, because once they find out a GUN is missing security will be ramping way up. The GUN acquisition and raid will be a major one night mission.

>Find Lucy
From what Violet said yesterday, Lucy’s miles away in some dingy jail. Rabbits can’t drive, but I guess I could hypothetically hold an important reptile ransom to get her set free. I really miss her…I’m glad I stayed loyal today, it makes me feel a little better about our relationship.

>Take the knife and go to the police station
I’m attached to this gun stealing idea. Since it’s a rainy day I bet the officer on guard duty will be even sleepier. Now’s the perfect time to find a way in, even if I end up just using the front door.

I wait until I’m sure Violet’s asleep before I take the knife from the kitchen and head out into the rain. Oh dammit, my leaf cloak is still at the burrow and if I go there it’ll waste time.

My brothers are good people, but if they see the knife I bet they’ll want it for themselves. I go back inside to put the knife on its holder thing and hurry through the neighborhood to the burrow.

>Rabbit at the burrow (random choice of three options): Sky
Just the rabbit I wanted to see! I shake him awake for the second night in a row and he groans and kicks at me with his feet.

“Sky, Sky, hey, I think I found a place we can get a gun.”

“Mmmyuh stop bothering me…”

“You can figure out how it works and we can use it to fight long range, c’mon, get up and help me steal it.”

I pat his arm insistently until he rubs his eyes and listens to me explain the police station and the tired guard.

>Encounter avoidance check: Failure
I look through the window and see the same drowsy lizard at the desk by the phone. His head droops down on his chest, which rises and falls slowly.

I’m about to usher Sky toward the door when we both jolt at the sound of boots on pavement. They’re coming down the street, what should we do?

>Run for cover
“C’mon Sky, we have to hide!” I drag him out of the light of the window and look for the closest bush or alley. Dammit, the buildings are too close together and there’s no greenery in sight. The nearest shelter is a car parked on the side of the street and we dart underneath it.

It stinks–my head brushes against the undercarriage and I get oil smeared on my fur. We huddle behind a wheel and listen as the steps get closer, then move past.

“That guy has a gun too.” Sky whispers.

“Is he the one who’s been hunting us?”

“No, that’s a chameleon, and we’ve only seen him when it’s light out. This is a gecko, they can see better in the dark, I think.”

“You brought your weapons, right? We could go after him instead, he’s out in the open so it’s easier.”

Sky scratches one of his damp ears. “I dunno, wouldn’t we need to hurt him really bad to steal the gun?”

Sky’s right to be worried about taking a reptile head-on. Better go with our original plan.

“Okay, let’s wait a while for this guy to get far away and then we can go to the police station.” I say assertively.

Sky nods. We huddle together under the car and I try to wipe the oil off my head. Ugh, I hope I can get it all out, otherwise Violet is going to notice the stink and the smudge.

After half an hour of tense waiting, we creep back to the window to check on our target. The lizard’s still snoozing, although sometimes he stirs and adjusts his position.

“Let’s see what the entrance looks like.” I whisper.

It’s a double door set-up with polished brass handles instead of knobs. I jump up and grab onto the handle and brace my feet on the other door to give Sky a gap inside. He holds it open for me from the inside and I land softly on the linoleum.

The lights are on and we tip-toe past the open offices until we find our guy. His shiny pistol is in a leather holster, secured by a metal snap fastener.

Sky gets closer to examine the mechanism. He waves me over and shows me wear to put my hands to hold the pouch in place while he pulls the button free.

The officer doesn’t react to the sound. Sky puts his hands around the grip and pulls it free.

>Officer sleep check (75% success): Success
The lizard doesn’t stir. We backtrack to the door and squeeze out, back into the open air. Sky has the gun wrapped awkwardly at his chest, muzzle pointed down and to the right.

I’m shaking a little with excitement. My plan worked! It was pretty easy too–besides the scare with the guy on patrol we didn’t have any trouble at all.

We run back to the burrow, wake up Grass and Root, and sit around Sky as he starts patting down the weapon. He finds the spot to release the magazine and we count out eight precious bullets.

“Let’s find the higher-ups at Gargill and shoot ‘em!” Grass says. His eyes are alight with excitement.

“I dunno, it’s kind of an awkward size for us to use. How are we going to aim and shoot?” Root protests.

What’s my plan for the gun?
>>
No. 1120982 ID: 94d85e

What kinds of scrap do you have laying around the burrow? Could you tie this gun to a tripod to stabilize the aim? You'd have to abandon it after an ambush if there were survivors.
If you're bringing it somewhere to shoot someone instead, take some of the bullets out. You can find more portable, if less potent ways of hitting the flat end so the pointy end goes bang.
>>
No. 1120984 ID: cb76eb

You have to use it as part of a trap. Your fastest runner has to lure one of the more dangerous people (Gargill, the chameleon, ect) to a burrow. As they're standing around outside the entrance, the gun handlers fire from behind them in a opposite burrow or camouflaged gun nest like a ghillie suit
>>
No. 1120986 ID: fd169b

>>1120982
that or at least a bipod on the muzzle. at your size this is less a sidearm and more like a rifle, best used in an ambush. Your biggest advantage here is that no one will be expecting you to have it. Position yourself well, on a high shelf or within a bush, and you can end them before they know you're there.
>>
No. 1120990 ID: d30887

This is only the beginning. They have an army at their beck and call, but you now have the one thing that will make any individual reptile back the @#$% off.

They are going to notice a missing gun. Go to ground, stick to burrowing for now. If you can link your nest to multiple zones, it'll be easy to set up a long-range location to assassinate a jerk, then cut the tunnel off.

Use Violet's fridge rabbits as decoys if you need to fake your death.

Right now a guy has lost his gun and will probably be a bit reluctant to tell anyone because that could cost him his job.
Its the kind of surprise that could turn a bad situation around, but only once.

I pick up the gun and try different ways of positioning it in my paws. I hold it like a rifle, but the shape of the pistol isn’t really suited to it. I can grab the barrel and reach the trigger at the same time though, so it’d work in a pinch.

“Grass is right–we have to take advantage of this opportunity while the reptiles aren’t expecting us to be armed. That policeman might not tell anyone he lost his gun and even if he does they aren’t sure we have it.”

I mime out the shape of a short tripod. “Sky, you could make a little thing out of sticks, with like a, a flat part on top we can reset the gun on to keep it stable. We’ll wait in a bush for the chameleon and–”

“And kill him!” Grass ruffles my ears. “You’re pretty smart Windy–”
