Eligos blinks, and then laughs. You doubt he's learned his lesson, but at least you can say you warned him. If he wants to keep playing stupid games after this, you'll make sure he gets stupid prizes in return.
While you were making Eligos sweat, one of your servants quietly brought a drink cart in with a bottle of wine and some glasses. You make a mental note to find whoever it was and thank them later, and fill up a glass for yourself, having a feeling you'll need it to make it through the rest of this conversation.
"Where's your human?" Eligos asks, immediately proving you right. He looks around the parlor owlishly, as though Umara might appear out of thin air.
"Not here," you say, unwilling to give him any more than that.
"Did she get the package I sent her?" he asks. "She didn't mention what sort of books she liked, so I tried to include a little of everything from my English collection. I'm not expecting them back anytime soon, so -"
"She got them," you say. Umara seemed pleased about the books, too, but you're obviously not going to tell Eligos that. You don't want to inflate his ego any more than it already is. And you have no idea why Umara was so happy with those old books, anyway. Should you have been buying her books this whole time?
