>your name, which you chose yourself, reflects that.
Which means you're not using the name given to you by your parents, right? I hope they're not insulted by their son/daughter pretty much telling them, "I hate the name you gave me, so I'm changing it!"

Unless you changed your name to protect your parents? That way none of your enemies would know they're related to you and won't attack them to get back at you. Because if that's the case, then it's a good thing you're not using the name they gave you at birth!

You are MAKALA HELLSCOURGE, veteran Red Witch of the Easthills Dragon-Clan. Almighty master of the elements and arcane spellcraft!

Also you're currently stuck in the middle of an underground river. It's really fucking cold.

If you're a master of the elements can't you just... make a bridge? With rock or ice?

Uh, DUH. SPELLCASTING. You know, that thing you devoted your entire fucking life around!

You chuckle, marvelling that such an obvious solution hadn't crossed your mind. Nearly drowning must have shook you more than you thought. Ah well, no matter.

You ready yourself mentally, mulling over what kind of spell you might like to cast to get you out of here, but then you make a sudden realization.

Ha ha, cheeky. But you can't swim! Why learn to do such a tedious thing as that when you could just cast a floating spell on yourself... but only if you had your Grimoire.

Without the book, it doesn't MATTER that you're a master level witch, you can't cast nearly any of your spells... only the few, simple ones you've readied for the day.

B-but hey, you've gotten out of worse situations before. You're a smart gal, you're sure those three spells will be enough to get you to safety.

Submit a weak, beginner-level spell that Makala might have readied, as well as a short description of what it does. Three will be chosen, and be available for the duration of the quest.

"Roar" spell. It increases the strength of your voice by several times. You always keep it ready in case you'd want to shout at someone in anger.

Use it to shout for help.

T3rr@ 5p1k3 (warp pull) - You're not sure how you invented this spell, but it works. Terra Spike (normal) causes high pressure in the earth, which usually forms instant stalagmites from the ground up. Your spell is different - it causes a tiny black hole to appear with minimal critical mass required to 'plug the hole', while simultaneously causing a hollow sphere of subspace around the hole to 'fracture'. End result: earth go up. And anything around the hole is sucked in. And at the edge anything nonmagical is sliced up by a void cleaver.

This spell would be amazingly powerful... IF YOU COULD CAST THE DAMN THING. Unless you're standing in a ley line to increase your casting range, this spell's range is about ONE FOOT, putting you directly in danger of the terra spike and more importantly the slicing sphere accompanying it.

Feather Fall - A must-have for any dungeoneering wizard. This spell is what saved you from the previous 400-meter waterfall.

Voodookinesis - Not many mages focus on physical strength. You do. In your case, you can link two different objects together at a distance of about 10*level feet, and imposing force on one object will cause the other to develop a near-parallel force at the opposing side. The problem is, both objects have to be about the same weight (note that the objects may have differing masses if the net force imposed on the objects is almost the same), and you're lifting their combined mass.

Mage hand: Weak telekinesis (5lb at 25ft+5ft/lv)
It's a basic but useful spell, but it's also good for remote pick pocketing and hilarious pranks (Tying shoelaces, undoing belts, etc).

Entangle -- Causes a bunch of green, tendril-like vines about two inches thick to emerge from all surfaces within 20 feet of the target point and begin clinging to everything but the caster.
>>
No. 841583 ID: 904bad

Vague - It's effects are kinda hard to explain...
>>
No. 841589 ID: 13fded

Lesser Thermal Conduction - Select two targets. One will gain heat the other will lose it.
It's a much weaker effect than the equivalent level fire or cold, and is at the lower tier, so you will only produce ice or fire if the targets are already cold or hot.

>But you can't swim! Why learn to do such a tedious thing as that when you could just cast a floating spell on yourself...
You learn to swim for those occasions you happen to lose your Grimoire. Like right now. Bet you wish you took the time to learn how to swim right now!

Ray of Frost. Shoots a laser of coldness out of your fingertip. Can't seriously injure anything bigger than an insect unless they're extremely vulnerable to cold, or you hit 'em in the eye or something, but it's a handy effect for training accuracy with more powerful attack spells, or nonlethal dueling, or making ice cubes as a party trick. Repeated castings might be able to construct an extremely flimsy ice bridge.

Embarrassing Updraft. Basically weak levitation, but only works on clothes which are being worn by someone. Originally developed for pranks, such as giving someone a wedgie from across the room with quick and plausibly-deniable casting gestures, but it's also handy for surviving a fall, or walking across something that can almost but not quite support your weight.

Make Presentable - A convenient repair/cleaning spell for the caster on the go, the caster and all their gear is cleaned, polished, dried freshened (as applicable) and otherwise made to look and feel wonderful. It can't repair serious damage but it can all but negate daily wear and tear.

Lanternlight - Conjures a source of heat and light that will float within arms reach of yourself, can be repositioned relative to your body or the light refocused between a torch or spotlight at-will.
>>
No. 841625 ID: 94bef7

Walk on Water - Pretty self-explanatory. Allows caster to walk on water and possibly water-like substances.

Deafen - Dampens sounds in the affected area.

Dry - Makes target become free of moisture faster.

Pickpocket - Makes an item from a hard to reach area such as a chest, crevice, or another one's pockets to appear onto the caster's hands or pockets.

Alright let's try to get out of this bind with some of those vines. Cast Entangle on the general area between you and that other large rock, then drag yourself over there. You'll be closer to the shore, and the vines should give you good footing to stand up on the rock so you can try to jump with Feather Fall to extend the distance you travel and land on dry land!

So, uh, it turns out that the vine growth trajectory follows whatever path gives the plants the least resistance.

Meaning they followed the water's current and immediately went in the opposite direction you wanted them to.

You learned a neat fact about these magic vines, though.
>>
No. 841840 ID: 66a4ca

These vines are way larger than what I'd expect from a beginner-level spell. Or perhaps that's coz there's a lot of water here for easy growth.

So! I guess we'll be trying shouting then? But what should we shout?

"Wow, look at all these free blowjobs here!"

If you had both hands available you could make a lasso out of vines to try to pull yourself over to the other rock. Or the riverbank if it had something to lasso onto. Wait, maybe you can still do that by using your mouth to help manipulate the vines.

I don't suppose you can climb on the rock you're on now? Then you could try jumping off it with feather fall, towards the other rock, then use that as a stepping stone basically. Does feather fall even work that way? Or will it dampen horizontal velocity too?
>>
No. 841846 ID: 094652

You have enough vines to get a grip. Climb on the vine bush, make some rope, then jump to the other vine bush and do what you can from there.

What's going on downstream?
Anything you could float towards with a makeshift vineraft.
I mean you can paddle, even if you can't swim.
