Chapter One: Of Truths and Secrets

Our tale begins in a dark and eerie forest. The moon glitters in betwixt the silhouetted leaves. There is the sound of a bell ringing in the distance to the east, and the gurgling of a stream to the west, all around you are fireflies and the calls of nocturnal birds. The breeze flows gently over the long grass. But what is that odd chattering? Could it be... snickering? You are faced with a choice, either go:

Right then. Seems like we might want to visit those two. Or at least one of them. Basically, I agree with >>777579.

>Suffice to say that many have tried, all but two have succeeded
I assume you mean "all but two have failed" or "only two have succeeded" or else that doesn't really dissuade me from trying.

Still, problem for later. We should probably get the basics down before we try something more complicated.

so quick question... what can I do as a jackalope?

also are we the jackalope that is just a rabbit with horns or the one were we're a rabbit with horns and the hind legs and tail of a pheasant? I've heard them described as both with the one as them just as a rabbit with horns being more common.

Cheshire:"Indeed, but then again, a slip of the Lip is no fault of the Mind. Xander is the only Shifter who is still with us. His tutor, alas, has gone into hiding since Xander overthrew him."
>777583
Cheshire:"The First Shifter ruled this land, in a time long passed. The second, you have already met. He considered the King a tyrant, and arranged a coups. With the powers the King taught him, he turned against him, banishing him to a place none ever return."
>>777698
Cheshire:"Undoubtedly, we'll need some clothes for you, as well as establishing a base of operations.
>>

Do jackalopes require clothes? Cheshire cats don't. Unless you mean your stripes or something.

Or did we remain humanoid enough to need clothes. Man, we really need to find a mirror. Or a pond or something.

Well okay then. Let's get going.
Why did Xander consider the king to be a tyrant?

All right, lead on, Cheshire. Clothes, a reflection, a base of operations. Take me where you will.

And now, give Cheshire a motorboat! As an excuse to ride on his head.
>>
No. 777846 ID: ba506f

So the shifter thing is probably not something I should bring up if I ever come across Xander again huh?

So Then, where can we find me some clothes, a base of operations as you called it, and a mirror so I can see what I look like now. Because I'm not going to lie, since I found out that I'm a jackalope now I'm kinda curious to see what changed.

Cheshire:"Or how the Cat envies the Dog, as a matter of fact..."
*grumble grumble* man's best friend indeed, moronic things can't be trusted with any food for god's sake... Stupid dogs, humans like them more because they're too stupid to know when to disobey. People like dogs more because cats are smarter than them.*grumble grumble*
>>777787
Cheshire:[i]"There is a town nearby. To the west. You should be able to go there and find what you need. They are friendly to newcomers, and many of them had the same fate you did."
With that, Cheshire fades away.

You remember that that the road runs North to South, perhaps if you return to the central tree...

You trek west a ways, and come across a large river. It is full of glow-eyed fish. You can hear a twig snap behind you. Upon wheeling around, nothing is there. You begin to feel as though you are being watched by something other than the glow-cheeked frogs and the far-above birds...

Cheshire is visibly appalled, then regains his trademarked expression. "The bell is for you to get my attention, the clothes are for you, as you are currently not wearing any and the sword...
