You are a child again, running through your village. You are playing with your friends, Bradford and Alina. In an attempt to hide from them, you activate your father's providence, using the wind to boost you onto a roof. However, Alina is coming up from behind you, and she can see you from her viewpoint. You can climb down, use one of your father's elemental providences, or go down through the chimney.

You go down the chimney of the house, coughing away the dust when you land. Thankfully, this is the house of Valegia, one of the village elders, and she's always been nice to you. You dash through the cottage doors, just as Bradford turns the corner, the two of you run, thinking Alina is still behind you, when she suddenly jumps out from the corner your about to round. Startled, you grab Bradford and run towards your house. That's when you hear the scream. Confused, you dash faster. By now, you all mentally agree the game is over, and Alina is right behind you. As you burst through the door, you see your mother, being choked by your belligerent father. Panicked you suddenly release off a burst of fire. Your father moves away immediately, but your mother is hit square in the chest. What's more, as she falls the fireball hits the furnace, blowing up immediately. Your father grabs the three of you and puts up a cocoon of earth with his providence. When he finally deems it safe, the earthen shell breaks down. You see your house burning down around you, and your mother on the floor. All you've ever known

all you've ever cared about, is going up in flames. It feels as if your very soul is ablaze. You look down and see your hands are suddenly covered in fire one second, water the

You wake up.
You are surrounded by your friends; Windvale, Bradford, Alina, Nyss, Recticulus, and Oracle. You have been moved to the hospice. Your skin is covered in ash. Windvale looks at you seriously. "Nathaniel, Valegia died last night. At that moment, you erupted into fire. We think your ability to copy providences returned, and defaulted to your last providence: your father's. Luckily, Nyss wasn't in bed, but we had to get Oracle just to move you here and Recticulus to keep you from bursting into fire again. Also...I'm assuming you remembered some of what happened that night? We could tell you were having a nightmare."

Valegia is one of if not the last of the elders who sealed your providence away. He was mentioned very briefly a few times. They were in charge of the day to day of the country, I assume more elders live but he might of been the last of those that sealed us.

Can we copy only 1 skill at a time? Presumably, we're copying our dead father right now, would we have to drop that to copy another, or will they slowly accumulate?

If we drop a copy (assuming we can) does that restore full power to the person we were copying?

What's the range? Activation conditions? ...obviously, the target being alive, or in reach, isn't one. Does the copy have to be consensual?

(Right now it looks like the best use of this might be offensive power nullification- copy a foe's power just do cripple it for them).

Do we have conscious control over what we're choosing to copy?

You don't know. That part of your memory is still locked you seem. You don't want to experiment right now, but you might want to ask an elder. However, the Overlords just sent you a message to meet you in their tent. Apparently, the 4 of you will be teleporting back to the hidden forest, to show you the new invention of the Mechanitors.

Well then let's go do that, make sure we tell someone where we are going. Have we been doing that? It's important people know where we are going. Do we have a line of succession if we should suddenly die?

The teleportation goes off without a hitch. The clearing seems the same, except for a few differences. There are far more Overlords and servitors awake and about than last time, and there is many large pieces of machinery. Exulon comes to meet you, and initiates a thought-speak. "Morning King. It's been a while. We're testing a new techno-What was that!" The Mechanitor is interrupted by an explosion.

Golems are attacking.

You recover quickly. On the horizon, you see a battleline of golems followed by their chariot riding-controllers. This wave seems to be entirely made of lava golems, but there is a large object following them. It takes a moment for you to realize what it is, and when you do you nearly break down. It is a demon, at full power, flying towards you.

At the sight of the demon, the Overlords go into Overdrive, facing their invention. Exulon grabs you by the arms with your manipulators. "I need you to hold them off until we're ready. What we have might be able to keep that demon down for a while, but we can't be disturbed while the pilots are prepared."

>Do we have a line of succession if we should suddenly die?
We have nobles, generals, lieutenants, and friends. We also have an unborn child, though I think technically he or she would be a bastard if we died before the wedding. Not really an issue for the sole successor, though.

If we died, I assume one of our closest friends / allies would be installed as regent until the kiddo came of age. Our core group is loyal enough, and we have a direct enemy before us (and maker blessing the kingdom through the wish), so I'd think it unlikely they'd splinter into factions and start a civil war over succession. It's possible without a strong independent leader, and considering who our bride-to-be is, that our kingdom might end absorbed into the elf empire instead of surviving as an independent nation, but that wouldn't be the worst thing.

>You don't want to experiment right now, but you might want to ask an elder.
Experimenting would be a bad idea, as we could conceivably permanently damage the providences of allies. Talking to the elders, and Oracle, for insight at the first opportunity would be smarter.

>Hold off a demon
...who teleported in with us?

Also it's been long enough I forget the rules in this setting: what kills demons?

>what do
Do any of the enemy have providences? We could hit them with our copy ability, crippling their power down to 1% output. Might as well experiment on hostiles.

Get the @#$%ing army! WHY IS NOBODY SUMMONING THE ARMY?!

Have them push the enemy golems in the demon's path. Your units will get plastered if they make contact with the demon, but those golems are likely anti-demon protected to prevent friendly fire (for the sake of preserving expensive gadgets).

A uniform whirring sound can be heard from where the Mechanitors are working.

The first signs of the demon's retinue appear, as lesser Demons begin to rush forward. It appears that the Breakers are now online however, and gun down many of them on the way.

(You now have 3 Breakers and 10 servitors fighting with you. There are 3 lesser demons in melee range, and 7 lesser demons in psychic range.)

A shining crown of steel begins to rise from the ground as the Mechanitors scramble into combat positions.

The Breakers fire down another 5 demons, leaving only one in combat with you. A Watcher suddenly emerges from the shadows and screams, causing you to lose your focus and release your psychic powers. The Lava Golem blazes into melee combat with the Breakers, who are now unprotected. Finding 4 lesser demons in your way, you are now too surrounded to attempt any psychic powers.

I'm thinking retreat-since I can't help but imagine that unless we can down ALL the enemies around us quickly we're going to get blenderized by the incoming attacks if we're on our own.
