A little black barn owl sleeps exhausted in his armchair. He has had a very long, grim night. As he had difficulty sleeping, he helped himself to sleep by means of fine wine.

He still has duties to tend to, though. The sun rises through the distant window. He cannot stay locked in his armchair all day. That's for Saturdays.

What shall he do, then?

I'd attribute your sleeping problem to insisting on being active during the day when owls are usually nocturnal.

What are your duties?

Still exhausted, he merely groans.

It's Sunday. If Saturday, yesterday, was the day he had to hold his duties up during an emergency circumstance, that which normally he'd be taking the night off like a proper owl, then today would be Sunday.

>_What are your duties?

While he only attends the weeknight rounds, he leads his townfolks in particularly bonding activities to strengthen faith on Sundays.

He . . .

Oh, he does have to get up doesn't he? He can't miss Sunday. Not with that.

Bugger. Alright. Guess it's time to muscle out of the sleep stage back into the waking world. This is gonna take a stretch or two.

On the count of three. One . . . two . . .

And he's up! Points for the night owl, striving for daylight for his good fellows! . . . Yeah, he probably would've liked sleeping more, to be honest with himself.

But today is Sunday Congregation. He can't miss Sunday congregation. He has duties to uphold to his brothers and sisters, to his lovely townsfolk, the good children of faith they all are. He can bear the soreness just to bring up their hearts for the day. Then once it's done, he'll just come back home and sleep.

. . . He'll proooobably take the CARRIAGE to church today, though. Brother Jonah's a pretty charitable sort. He won't mind.

He also debates whether to rinse his feathers first, having showered yesterday, or just get dressed.

What would you say?

go ahead and shower before you go. cleanlyness is next to godlyness (or so they say)

If you're late, you can make do. If not, go ahead and rinse. It'll help wake you up.

"The morning breaks, the shadows flee;
Lo, Zion's standard is unfurled!
The dawning of a brighter day,
The dawning of a brighter day
Majestic rises on the world."

Anyway, yes! Good work getting up! As has been said, shower if there's reasonable time.

You applaud the fond choice in poetry, and after considering time limits, you decide to shower. The sun, after all, has barely left the ground in its sunrise. That would mean that the Brothers and Sisters of your congregation would be there first, not the townsfolk. They arrive, or start to, once the sun has left the horizon.

That gives you - - ten minutes? At best?

You decide to sing as you shower. Nobody else is listening, and nobody will tell. Besides, the shower has the best resonation for it, other than the church private altar room. You sing there, too, but only when nobody is around.

You personally think you have a good voice. But you don't go bragging about God's good gift just like that. Others consider it oddly smooth for an Owlite, or they might say it has a good range, which you agree with. You can hit plenty of notes, but you don't really sing anything other than your own written verse.

Sometimes you write to forgotten gods. Sometimes you write about the affairs of gods you created. And other times it's church hymns. Either way, it gets that good sort of ancient or otherwise foreign feel to it.

And, pardon mental language, DAMN if the shower isn't the best place for it.

Right. Nothing wrong with enjoying your shower, just don't lose track of time. That would be unfortunate.
