It is dark. You are dreaming. And you must find him.

You give him a little kiss on the forehead. He thanks you, and he says he feels safer now. You remind him of his mom a little bit.

Apparently, Gavin does not have the same power as you. You had to make the light path yourself. You wonder if he has some sort o different power.

Ask him to try... extinguishing a light. Perhaps while you can create, he can destroy.

Tell him not to sweat it, we are just trying to figure out how this whole dream thing works.

Can you smell or hear anything in the darkness? If not i guess well just have to keep following the light trail.

You both continue following the trail, and you ask Gavin to listen very closely with you.
You swear you can hear the faintest sound of windchimes.

He backs away from you a little, because he's going to try transforming into a dinosaur. He tries really hard to think about becoming one, but unfortunately it doesn't work.
>>
No. 527402 ID: a23afd

>>527398
Aw. Well, maybe he doesn't have any control over the dream. Wait, maybe YOU can turn him into a dinosaur? Having an unpowered assistant is fine so long as you can make them stronger.

Also follow the sound of the windchimes.

You focus all your energy on Gavin but he doesn't change at all.
And you would, if you knew what direction it's coming from. There's like an echo, almost as if this world was inside a dome.
>>
No. 527417 ID: a23afd

Hmm. Well, keep going forwards, for now. If we find a wall that'll give us an indication of where the windchimes are, if this IS a dome.

Ask the boy about his family.

As you follow the path of lights, you ask Gavin about his family.

"Well, my mommy's really nice! She always gives me kisses when I get hurt or lets me sleep in her bed with her and daddy when I get scared at night. Daddy's mean to mommy sometimes, but I know he loves me. He taught me how to ride a bike and gives me lots of hugs and kisses"

Hearing him talk about his parents warms your heart. Though you frown a little when he talks about his father being mean to his mother...

do the wind chimes sound closer?

How adorable,
Wait...
His father is "mean" to his mother...
Worrying.
The implications, VERY worrying.
>>
No. 527483 ID: a23afd

That could mean any number of things, from mouthing off due to stress, to spousal abuse. So to clear things up, just ask him if his parents get along most of the time.

He looks down a little bit and tiny tears well up in his eyes. "They fight a lot. And that's usually why I'm scared at night. I get scared that they'll stop being my parents. Dad yells the word 'dee-virce' a lot"
>>
No. 527519 ID: a23afd

Yeah, sounds like that's just relatively normal not-getting-along. It happens. Reassure him by telling him that even if his parents don't get along, they'll always be his mom and dad.
>>
No. 527560 ID: 9ddf68

tell him that his parents love him no matter what but it sounds like hard time may be ahead. Just let him know that even at times when life just seems unfair there will always be something to make it better down the road, you just have to make it there first. Like this road of light we walk. Right now it's kinda dark and scary but if we keep walking it will get better at some point. even if it takes a while to reach the end and we see even scarier things as we walk it, the bad can only last for so long before all that is left is the good. so lets see where this trail will take us hmmm.
>>

Reassure him by saying whatever happened to him is at least a thousand times worse than losing your parents.

It is too dark. You can no longer hear anything. The wind chimes have stopped, and you have no idea where Gavin is either. His breathing seems to have halted.

You manage to flicker a light.
What you see doesn't really shock you, but you can hear a small gasp. You cant tell if it's from Gavin or whatever this thing is.

What you see frightens you.

Dodge what? It hasn't attacked yet.
Besides, you're too scared to move right now. Those are some fangs you don't want to see in your neck.

Ha, screw that.
First off, mate, your form is a bit lacking. Good on you with the blood and the teeth and the whole "lurking in the darkness" deal, but you arent quite there yet. See, the trick to good horror is SUBTELTY. you cant just burst in from the darkness going ABLOOGYWOOGY at us, you gotta get us nice and primed, put us off ease with some good spooky happenings and the occasional chase, keeping us from seeing you in the first place.
I will admit though, the whole silence deal is rather good. VERY offputting. Still, work on your form and try again in a few updates!
Remember: SUBTELTY is where true horror lies. Get us wary before trying to scare us shitless!
(Yes, I am really suggesting we give the nightmare pointers.)
