In a room, a man sits.

Waits.

He doesn't know what he's waiting for. He just knows that he's there, waiting for something.

There are others there too. Sometimes the others fight. He doesn't like it when they fight.

When they fight, the push, they shove, they attack, they wave their arms frantically and scream at each other. Nobody can understand anyone else. They all speak different forms of gibberish.

But he never fights with them. He sits in his corner, curled in a ball. Not wanting to get hurt. Not wanting to hurt anyone.

Eventually, they all stop squabbling, and come to a peace of some sort. It happens every time. This is his favorite thing in the world to see, to try and be a part of.

It makes him happy when they stop fighting. He gets up and walks around, excitedly waving his arms like everyone else, squawking in his own breed of gibberish.

None of the others understand him, though. This makes him terribly sad.

Now, he just sits in his corner all the time, waiting.

He doesn't know what he's waiting for. He just knows that it is now coming for all of them.

Soon.

You are a PFC in the United Earth Parliament Army, American Armed Forces. The year is 2089. It's almost 6 years to the day after an alien invasion of Earth began, in which millions of humans were abducted, never to be seen again. Many people commonly refer to this event as "The Rapture."

The circumstances around the sudden attacks, and their even more sudden agreement to withdraw has been a mystery to everyone. Surely, with all their superior technology, and with humanity only budding into full sentience, should they not have wiped us out completely?

There are many conspiracies pertaining to this question, more than you would like to spend time wrapping your head around right now.

Right now, as a matter of fact, you are wondering around the forests of North Georgia, practicing your survivalism skills. You have your battle rifle just in case. You have just finished your first term in the army, and are considering a stint now in the special forces. Thus, you are here in these god-forsaken, slightly-irradiated woods.

Why is the forest slightly irradiated? That is something you don't know either. No nuclear weapons went off here during either WW3 or The Rapture. You look down at your Rad Badge. It still shows an acceptible color. You breath a sigh of relief.

But enough about where you are, why don't you tell me a little about yourself?

>Please choose a name, an advantage, a disadvantage, a hobby skill, and a misc. skill. You also have 5 character points to allot in any way you choose amongst any numbers on your character sheet. When filling any of the slots, please try to use only one suggestion per post.

>Yes, I know, it's writing only, mostly, but everyone else is having fun and I want to try it too. I want to finally try contributing instead of just lurking. I want to try and keep this semi-serious, but I like fun just as well as the next guy. So if you think I can do anything to make this better, please let me know.

Wait, what? Why? Won't that just result in a vast number of unnecessary posting that would be better off condensed?

Also, how potent should these things be? Advantage and skill especially.

Ok, one choice is stupid.

>How potent?

Remember that you're an ordinary human being. No superpowers, no abnormal abilities. Just human stuff for right now.

Advantage: Grim Reaper's Sprint: After downing or killing a foe in combat you experience a surge of adrenaline and moment of clarity that lets you attack another enemy immediately in seemingly no time at all.

Disadvantage: Clumsy Mom: You were dropped on your head one too many times as a child. You suffer a penalty to any IQ related skill tests... but at least you're less likely to suffer the effects of a concussion.

Hobby skill: automobile mechanics: you like to work on old vehicles in your spare time.

Misc. skill: stealth: you can sneak by a guard, stay in the shadows, and keep quiet.

As for stats, what are HT and FAT?
>>
No. 49134 ID: 783004

HT is Health, how healthy you are. This determines things like your base hit points, your resistance to disease, your likelyhood of getting back up after a devastating or crippling blow.

FAT is your fatigue, your wind. It describes how in shape you are. Fatigue slowly goes down depending on how tired you are. You can use your fatigue points to put GREAT EXTRA EFFORT into most physical and some mental tasks. Sleeping a full night will restore your FAT to max.

So, to make sure I get it, using terms from other RPGs and synonyms:

Strength = Power = Muscle
Dexterity = Agility = Reflexes
IQ = Logic = Intelligence
Health = Endurance = Constitution = Body
Willpower = Determination = Composure

Shouldn't FAT be a derived attribute from WL and HT? Like (HT+WL)/2?

You are correct about those interpretations.

Think of fatigue as its own base stat, like the other 5, except that it is expendable. If we made it based off of two stats, we would get an abnormally high base stat (which isn't entirely impossible). When your fatigue is low, when you get tired, it becomes harder to do everything. The willpower stat is there to give a chance to get around the difficulty of that. ("You can't throw one more punch because you're so tired, but you will your fist forward again anyway, breaking the man's jaw.")

I'm trying to make the rules as complex as possible while streamlining them too. I don't want to be one of those imposing "you collapse under the weight of 150000 copper pieces you're carrying" DMs, but I also don't want this, the story I'm trying to tell, to become "Trainride Toppa Mudy Lagann".

I just want the character sheet to be a very quick reference to "can we do that or not?", not a end-all, be-all to the character.

Like I said, if anyone has questions or suggestions, I welcome them openly.

Of course, I mean no offense whatsoever to the author of Mudyquest. He has an ability to captivate people with his art and storytelling skills, railroad or not.

I need to go to sleep now; I have drive from memphis to atlanta, via mississippi in the morning. I know that this may be a little awkward for me and the players simultaneously, but I promise you if you try to stick with me I'll get something off my chest I've needed to for a long time, and at the same time tell a dramatic, captivating story for everyone on tgchan to enjoy.

>I'll choose randomly from all the choices available when I return, one for each category.

Well, the point of making the derived attribute an average (adding HT and WL together and dividing by 2) is that, as an average, it will never get higher than both attributes. I don't get what you mean by 'we would get an abnormally high base stat'.

But that's just questioning your reasoning, not your decision.
