o~{Yes. I did.}

The figure stands, slowly coming into view in the haze, initially recognizable as a strong, sleek, tough-looking creature with long antennae draping haphazardly from his asteroid-emblazened head. It does indeed appear that he has tripped, over a reasonably-sized blue stone, softly aglow.

>>488314
>>488317
o~{Yes.. yeah, hello.}

The creature reaches up, straightening his antennae before starting.

o~{...Wait, what the hell?}

He reaches down, lifting up the stone, looking at it.

o~{... It's a rock. It's a BLUE rock.. okay yeah, no duh, moron. This was not here a second ago. ...and a second ago, I wasn't hearing voices.}

As soon as the creature lifts up the stone, the scenery nigh-instantly fills out. Bright colored plants in planter boxes are lining what appears to be an immaculate paved street, with euclidean buildings in the background and fluffy white mountainous shapes behind them in several directions.

o~"...This is going to sound really stupid. But did you just talk?"

It seems more likely to this one that we were sent here, as our form often has artifact-level tengen abilities. then again, it is always comforting for us to assume we are somewhere for a reason.

Sorry, don't mind or little bickering among ourselves. May we present ourselves to thee: we are the orb of infinite psyche, the favor of Xom, the Voice of the Ancestors, and many other things, depending upon the culture of the society we find ourselves in. The creature blinks as it evidently hears more voices by some strange mechanic.

>>488328

o~"Whoah, whoah, wait, slow down. You're saying you got broken? you remember this? This happened recently, or.."

The creature takes the object from its mouth, holding onto it vaguely in its hand as it looks at the stone closer, tail drooping.

o~"...How long were you laying there?"

>>488329
He falters, expressing falling a little.
o~"...Yeah, you're.. you're in heaven. I mean, I guess. It doesn't really matter what you call it, but.. ah hell, I'm sorry, I should have realized..."
o~{Damnit, this is not my area of expertise.. sure quick on the uptake, though.}
o~"...Sorry you got broken. If it's any consolation, you look perfectly fine now.."
o~{Consoling a rock. Good job, Mazra.}

>>488353
o~"Artifact.. Xom? Orb of what? I.. think I missed some of that."

He flicks his antennae and raises a brow.

o~"...You wanna help me though, huh? Interesting. Well, I certainly can't see any reason not to let you, but.. just ask me if you have any questions, alright? I don't have any clue where you came from, but it probably was different."

The creature starts stepping up along the path again, shaking his head and rolling his shoulders back, his posture and face shifting back into flow, glancing down at the stone as he walks.

o~"You can call me Mazra, by the way, if you wanted my name. Anything you want me to call you?"

Mazra(o~) stops still, seeming to nearly lose his composure once again before compromising and staying stock still with a surprised grimace on his face.

o~"Is.. is that so."
o~{Fuck. Oh.. oh fuck, I should not have called its sense of humor b.. ffuck. Oh god..damnit.}

He lets out a long sigh, and closes his eyes, seemingly trying to clear stray thoughts from his mind.

o~{...Okay. Okay. Sorry. Sorry for calling your jokes bad. ..if you indeed heard that. ..Test, 512180, Kamuna is my soul's ambition.}

He resumes pace.

o~"...Right. Well, looking crazy isn't exactly a problem here. Besides, I'd have company, at least."

o~"Anyway, You wanted to know about my life? ironic choice of words, but okay. I'm an angel, or whatever you'd like to call it. I'm basically just here to fix everyone else's f--screw ups, implement system changes and improvements, and.. eh. well. A few other things."

He pulls the tube back into his mouth and inhales, a small stream of bubbles blowing off the tip in a serene breeze.

o~"It is a cig. ..okay, it was a cig. Up here.. things don't stay the same all the time, you know. People complain, don't want to be reminded of certain things, ideas get passed around, and before you know it..."
o~{Not that I have a problem with it or anything... still feels pretty much the same. Just more bubbly, I guess.}

He glances down at himself.

o~"It's just kind of what happens to us. 'specially to us, actually, but only for circumstances like this."
o~{I could have sworn I caught the bubbles looking pastel once, but that's going a bit too far.}

He takes another drag, a small light emanating from his palm until a small string forms, laced into the stone.

o~"Sorry, it sounds kind of a hassle, but we've made it better. Even before that it was probably useful more often than a problem anyway."

Mazra turns down a street, quickening pace a good deal. He pulls the string back behind his neck and lowers his hands, the stone now on a single piece of string against his chest.

o~{There's multiple of them... today is getting more interesting by the second.}
o~"Hope you don't mind, I like my hands free. Good? Good. Don't worry, you're fine. Oh. Yeah, I should probably mention a few of the 'rules' here. You're not going to d.. shatter again, so don't be worried about that. You're also not going to be accruing any more lasting damage unless you're almost literally trying to hurt yourself."

The kinked antennae on Mazra's head flick and then settle, his pace increasing a slight bit more.

"Interesting that you can't remember anything... but don't worry. Someone'll fix you up eventually. You're going to like it here, trust me. There's lots to do."

I thought angels had wings and halos and stuff. Do they all look like you? Speaking of looks, who's that Cyral-looking dude over there behind you, by the pool? A mortal or another angel? There's a billboard or something behind you, and... a shop behind and to your right? What's the layout of this place like?

Oh, right, we should probably mention. Our viewpoint shifts around, we don't control it directly, usually.

Us enjoying it here would depend on if there's interesting problems to be solved. We don't go for idle amusements too much. Not unless it's a competitive thing and we're helping someone be the best they can be. I guess you can say we're a helper stone. That's what we live for.

Mazra checks behind him at the cyral-like creature and the painted wall.

o~"Oh, that's just some artwork on a wall. There's a lot of blank canvases around here.. in more ways than one. ...Hey, I think I actually know what a cyral is. He might be!

Mazra waves to the creature with two hands, calling out.

o~"OY! Hey, are you a cyral?"

The creature slowly shakes its head.
o~{Ah well. Guess not.}

o~"I do have wings! I prefer not to fly, but don't think I can't or anything.

Mazra unfurls a pair of large white wings very reminiscent of insects. The veins glow slightly, and the webbing is a strange kind of translucent that almost seems to shift the perceptions of things seen through them.

o~"As for the halo, well..."
o~{Should've guessed you'd want to see the flashy stuff. Sure, why not.}

Mazra closes his eyes a moment, and the scenery starts to change. Creatures strewn about the streets and inbetween the buildings turn their heads to look as the vaguely pastel surroundings grey and mellow, light emanating around the angel's body and gleaming out from his head. As he does so, the air and ground folds and ripples with strange, seemingly arbitrary patterns.

o~{Damn, she was right. Showing off is fun sometimes.}

o~"Helper stone, huh... Heh. That makes sense. Put you on a necklace, always get a second opinion?"
o~{..Or, three second opinions. Four? How many of you are there, anyway?}

Mazra starts heading off again, his face falling a little.

>>488873
o~{Actually... I'm heading to where a problem is right now. I wasn't sure before, but I can definitely feel it now. Sometimes... sometimes people with a whole lot of imagination come up here, and then.. 'shit gets weird.' I guess I'll find out soon enough what's going on, though it might suck for you if you don't like idle amusements until you get into the swing of things. You're quite a chatterbox, you know. Depends on the realm we came from. Sometimes we are a fragmented mind. Another times lost souls, sometimes beings from another realm. Or even ancestors bound to help their decendants. All sorts of ways we could've come to be.

For here specifically?

I have no idea. All we know is that we broke. Which actually has happened before. Never sent us to heaven though.

As for our number it varies, sometimes we slumber and others awake. Generally the more interesting our surroundings the more we chime in.

Well, a bit of faffing about before shit gets serious is always welcome. Speaking of which, that's some cool flashy stuff you got going there! What other powers do you have?

We don't remember anything except waking up in a field during a thunderstorm with memory loss and cracks all over, then someone smashing us with their boot, I think? Well, we remember that, and a whole bunch of random and contradictory data. Mostly species types and tactical experience. Who knows where it came from and how much if any is true. At least I know that Cyrals exist around here now.

And yes, we do have a lot of nonsensical, and random data. We know what we are talking about for the most part though...

Mazra grins, pelting off on cool pavement at full speeds, a small wake forming behind him as he moves down some rough-hewn steps towards what looks like a serene, windswept beach.

o~"Glad you liked them. To be perfectly honest, there's a lot I can do. You saw those pads back there the thing that turned out not to be a cyral was using, right? I maintain those, they're part of what help keep things running smoothly here."
o~{You really are an enigma, aren't you. I think I'm starting to understand about this 'contradictory' information. Thunderstorm and getting smashed is it, huh.. Well, let's be a bit more fair, you did just d--get here.. often people remember more after eh, getting over the trauma and all that. Still though, you know what cyral are.. so that's one point towards accurate.}

o~"Do you have to fill each other in when you wake up..? Or do you subconsciously store information?"
o~{...Sorry, hard not to be inquisitive. I've just never seen anything like you here before.}

The texture of the atmosphere starts to change, laden with small ripples and quite obvious distortions. The trees seem somehow darker, and more ominous. Incidentally, for some reason there are trees on a windswept beach.

>>489081

o~"Hold up.. see for yourself."

Mazra gestures to the stark contrast that fades in front of him.

o~"Alright, let's get you up to speed a bit.. See, when someone gets here, usually they're confused, frantic, any number of things. Often, though, people just don't understand what's happened. Now, up here, when you start thinking a bit too hard, and your emotions get out of control..."

He takes a long drag on the rod in his mouth, exhaling a stream of bubbles.

o~"...this happens. We can usually keep it confined, but.. the more imaginative you are, and the more thoughts go whizzing around in your head, the more likely it is they might just come spilling out all over the place."

Mazra tests the air in front of him with a hand, scraping against some congealed empty space.

o~"Not everybody is this imaginative, and that's one of the reasons why we restrict this. If someone's going to make things change more than you, you're likely to get overwhelmed. ..Of course, the other reason is that.. these imagined things aren't always pleasant. I've gotten stabbed before. Just because the pain goes away doesn't mean it stops hurting."

The strange celestial creature stretches, though his thoughts indicate he probably doesn't have to.

o~{Hmm... actually, you can help me out with this before I go in. I'm basically going to try and find whoever it is that's causing this, and fending off whatever their mind throws in my way while I do. A lot of these things are linked with concepts, feelings, emotions, so, for instance, I've seen ice that's soft and cool, and ice that looked like it was going to rend your bones apart. It really just depends on how they're viewing these things at the time, and sometimes they can be more dangerous than others. ...I did say we were containing this so it didn't spread, right.}

Mazra moves into a somewhat more stable stance, and spreads his arms out, a bit of atmosphere folding and winding against them.

o~{If I put more dreamstuff into this, I'll be able to do a whole lot more once I'm inside, but it'll be harder to contain so it's a bit more risky depending on what's in there. I could also try and drain it out.. make it even drier than normal. I'll have less to work with, though, and I'll have to get creative. I don't have one damn clue what I'll be finding, so, preference, rocky?}

We all have separate information but that information usually overlaps a lot.

Hmm... so it sounds like pushing more in will strengthen you but also strengthen whatever's in there, and taking stuff out will do the opposite? I'm not sure in which situation would make either option more attractive. I'm tempted to say put more in so we can see your full power, but let's also think of the poor soul in there. Won't it be worse for him if his dark imagination takes hold even further?

So you're like a censor for heaven? An art critic, basically? What do you do once you reach the sad sap in the middle of this? Tell them to snap the fuck out of it and enjoy the afterlife?
>>
No. 498735 ID: 9ddf68

Well I think you should pull stuff away from the area. The way you make this sound is you've been here longer and as such you have far more experience than however is in there so when forcing both of you to be more creative I believe you would hold the edge. Also we are trying to help this person right if we go in their in force that would probably just make them panic and cause more pain for you and themselves in the end... you are here to help them right?

o~"Yeah, neither am I, to be perfectly honest. What I've found is that the more stable and less imaginative the person is, more dreamstuff is the best option since I can go all-out. When they're.. unstable and especially violent, you don't want what they do to be magnified any further."
o~{Some of the worst you can possibly get is afraid and creative with the reflex of wanting anything unfamiliar destroyed.}

o~{It will be worse for him for the, eh, dark parts to get stronger, but don't underestimate the morale boost the sight of me beating someone's fears to a pulp has. Yeah, might not want to be calling it the dark stuff, either. It's just a bit unfair; plenty of people see darkness as comforting. Not me, but, some people.}

>>498735
o~{I am here to help them, yeah. Alright. Creative solutions it is.}

Mazra concentrates, thinking about siphons and sponges and various abstract things, moving his hands back and tugging on the warped space, the scene shifting until it's more dull and misty-looking than it was before.

>>498692
o~{Only if an art critic made sure the right styles were put in the right galleries, and fought off when the paint bled out of the frames and turned into monsters ripping up the other paintings.}

He takes a deep breath, slowly stepping forth.

O~"When I find them.. yes. That's basically exactly what I'm going to do."

The beach vanishes from sight, and only a vague shimmer is in the air to signify what once was there before. It looks as though Mazra has stepped into another world altogether.

I'm betting the dreamer is at the center. So we just move forwards, away from the entrance. Watch out, those trees look like they have eyes, and those branches look like they could grab you. Hang on, there's a symbol on the ground, partially hidden by grass. Or maybe it's some weird version of a bear trap?

Hm, if snares like that one in the grass are about, then there is probably a bunch of other things about. Stay away from any branches near the ground or roots if you can.
I suppose you could try to trigger it with something heavy or flip it over. Otherwise lets have a look around for anything that could be useful as a point of reference, or just head to roughly where the source is.
