I'm... I'm awake. I don't remember the last time I was awake. My mind's been racing for so many years, time running together into one long endless string. But I hear it now, I hear a dull scratching.

Cairn. He stumbles eagerly to the edge of the molten rock. Their loyalty seems to cement quickly, I hope the others are as easily set. Problems. What is big problem? Their particular dialect is still a bit fresh for me, but I have the jest of it. His tail is firing rapidly, head bowed slightly, but his eyes are turned up at me. He is cocky.

"My Queen! Cave trolls are a big problem, we have 2 eating all of our food! Many have wasted already."

Cave... trolls. Cave trolls are a myth though! I made them up aeons ago to keep Ice's little triflers out of my tunnels!

Well they say cave trolls but it just might be what they think a cave troll is. Or the myth might have taken on a life of its own while you slept.

Probably creatures that match the myth. How strong are you in a fight? Being immune to lava says good things about that, at least.

Ask for a physical description, and how strong they are.

Who is this Ice? Another god? How many gods are there?

Go deal with those trolls that you created by making them up. When a god makes something up, it becomes real. I'm pretty sure that's how it works.

Then perhaps another made your myth real. Or they spontaneously sprang from the belief of the people of the world. Or, most likely, your people simply appropriated the name for another creature. Can't tell without knowing more.

Ask Cairn to describe the alleged "cave trolls" to you, and what they can do, while reading his mind to see what knows of them. Also have him bring over whoever has had the most experience and knowledge of them, and do the same thing as you did with Cairn. Then you'll be able to formulate a plan to deal with them.

From Ice's name, I assume she, or he, is a frost or cold aspect god or goddess. This correct?

And could you please get your people's name for themselves. It's getting awkward calling them "your people" and "your subjects" over and over.

Well there is a distinct possibility that some other god made the trolls afterwords to be a pest and lay waste, let's calm them and tell them the magma is chill (irony) and go kill some trolls!

In general I fight... well, I suppose? I am good at smashing things with my tail in the least, but I'm far from my normal capabilities. Ice is one of us, Ice and Wind sit together and their avatars on this planet spend plenty of time together. At least they did in my most recent memories.... There's also Water, he sits with me. The Sun and Moon are a tier above us, they keep us in check and make sure no one is over stepping their boundaries. There use to be 'lesser' gods, Water had Rain, Ice had Snow. I vaugly remember Wind having one... >>475350 Is... is that how it works?! This is my fault then..? >>475358 I make contact with Cairn again, and pull the image from hs head. They look.... about right actually. Who knows Trolls most? He flinches abruptly, perhaps I shouldn't shout in the poor things head...

"Chalk knows them!" he motions to the fluffier female, "She follows them and scratches pictures and writes many things about them!" his feelings are still radiating, he finds 'chalk' unsettling.

I turn to her, she's shaking like a leaf in a gale. Cairn says you know Trolls? Oh, she's absolutely pouring out about them, their habits and favorite foods, color patterns... all of this is silly. She says they showed up about 4 months ago, and have been steadily wearing away supplies. There is a nest of them in the NNE tunnel.

why do you find the habits of a race you created on your own silly?
You could at least show a bit respect to the little one's ideals of knowledge and your own creation...

So, Do we intend to slaughter every troll we'll meet there or would you prefer a more creative solution?
After all we don't exactly know how you feel about "problems" in general... more like "burn the symptomatics" or more like "maximize general satisfaction"?

Be sure to reward her and Cairn.
Cairn, for finding you and being so brave and loyal (while the others ran) and Chalk for being brave enough to watch the trolls so closely and gather potentially very helpful information about them.

If you want these creatures to follow you without question, then you need to show benevolence.

Please tell us you imagined up a weakness for them as well. ...I wonder if telling them about how you made them up and they shouldn't be real would actually unmake them?

Either way we should go check it out. You can ask if they have any soldiers around, and perhaps a spare weapon and/or some armor for you. Can you manipulate the earth as a method of attack, perhaps?
>>
No. 478033 ID: b33427

Thank Cairn and Chalk, but do so in what you'd consider a whisper; Your voice is so strong, it's overpowering to such as them.

I think that you should attempt to capture one of the cave trolls alive. Since it is of the earth, and likely of your unwitting creation, then you might be able to bend it to your will if you make mental contact.

With Chalk's knowledge of their behavior and favorite foods, you could lay a trap for them in or on the way to the supply cache. A simple pit trap, covered with a thin, indistinguishable layer of rock stretched from the rest of the floor over the top of it, and baited with food, would do to capture one alive. Your people could dig the pit, but is your power up to bending the rock in such a way to cover it?

Reward...? Should... should I give them a gem? I'm not sure how rewarding works for mortals.... >477973 Respect is earned. Cairn and Chalk are well on their way to that, but the 40 odd some dogs left here are nowhere to be seen. I suppose slaughter would be the best option, I can't imagine the dogs are happy with them. Removing the cause stops the symptoms. I take some time to orientate myself before setting off into the tunnels. Their work is a bit sloppy, but for such small creatures I find myself impressed. I would bet gold that Ice does not have such fine creatures. It takes about an hour by my judging to get to the chamber along this tunnel. I'm hit by a thick rancid smell, and there's something I think...

Grab a suitably sized rock and chuck it into it's mouth. Rapidly reform the rock once it has passed the creatures teeth to stretch out as a double-ended spike, through it's head and jaw. Add from spikly protuberances around where the rock-spike meets the roof and bottom of its mouth, so it can't close its mouth.

Closed is a perfectly acceptable position for a giant set of jaws next to your head. Keeping them that way would be great.

Try to look around for any sensory organs it has that you can then gouge. If there are no obvious eyes or anything ripping its glow-stalk off will have to do.

Do you have enough power to command the rock to fracture? 'Cause if you do, hold the beast's jaw shut with one arm, slap your free paw upon the cave wall, and order the stone to crack. Let gravity work for you to bring the roof of the tunnel this creature is in down upon it.
