You step away to go examine the door again, and something starts to happen! The light from the crack behind the gem shines through it and refracts into a pattern that slides across the wall slowly for a few seconds while morphing slightly before lining up with the 'door' pattern!

So are these those crazy "clouds you can walk on" or something? There's stairs leading to them and it didn't look like the tower was big enough to support anything wide at the top. Throw something at the clouds in front of where that staircase on the outside is headed.

Huh. Okay then.
How sensitive is your mysticbullshitometer, Pavane? Thinkin' that might come in handy soon.
Also, considering all the bird imagery in that templey room we came though to get here, maybe bird friend may be a little more involved in this place than we know.

They can really make you mad
Other things just make you swear and curse.
When you're chewing on life's gristle
Don't grumble, give a whistle
And this'll help things turn out for the best

And... always look on the bright side of life.
Always look on the light side of life.

You already pulled the switch, it was supposed to launch the lifeboat! It didn't, though, which honestly doesn't surprise you as much as it probably should.

The room is definitely at a weird slope, but it's not so steep that you can't stand on it. It seems like the whole thing lost power, and the only light now comes from what is probably a bunch of emergency lights? It looks like something is coming in through the front windshields in the cockpit on the other side of the door, so at least the turtle probably isn't underwater.

The Door seems to be jammed, probably because it's out of power, or maybe because of whatever mechanical failure caused the thing to not actually launch like it was supposed to anyway.

As you wake up, you start to realize that everything hurts a lot. But that's not really unusual either.

Maybe you should stop and check yourself for real injury. Then try to pull open the door. If it won't move, then rummage through your bag to find something to pry the door open with.

God.

Dammit.

The lifeboat launched right as you were leaving, and you couldn't keep your balance or grip well enough to stay inside the forced open door. You have no idea how far away that damn thing is by now.

The water broke your fall, and you only skipped across it a few times before plunging in, but you are a strong enough swimmer and suitably used to pain that you manage to make it into a suitably shallow area without passing out.

You are soaked.
Everything in your bag is soaked.
Everything is soaked.
Fuck vacations.

Look around. Do you see any obvious landmarks? That is where you should go, because anybody else who survived would tend to gather there.
Since they'd also be luckier than you, they'd probably also have survival supplies and maybe a radio or something. Also, being luckier than you, they're also going to be a lot better at not dying to horrible luck, so you definitely want to meet up with them.

You start to wring your shirt out. Your bag is mostly just full of clothes, you expected that anything else you brought would break or be ruined anyway so you didn't bother to pack much.

>>683575

You can't really make out much in the way of landmarks, just a weird swampy beach as far as you can see in any direction. More marshy-looking terrain going inland, and nothing in particular really stands out to you. The closest thing to a landmark that you can see is the wrecked turtle smoldering out in the water.

Suddenly, you hear a voice coming from behind you!

You look behind you and see what looks like a face peering out of a crack in a rock!

"The hell?!"

Could you answer me a question?

"What? What's going on here? Who are you?"

It's a very simple question - I suspect I know the answer I just want to be sure

"What are you talking about? I'm having a really bad day here..."

Just tell me, you exist, right? You are real?

It's just your luck that instead of being stranded in the middle of the ocean alone, you'd end up stuck with some weirdo.

"What? Of course I'm real. What kind of goofy question is that?"

Ah, that is interesting. Very interesting. And what are you doing here?

"What the hell would I know. I don't know what's going on. Also why would you even ask me that question, what's weird about that?"

It's not exactly often to meet somebody around here who exists. It is very exciting.

"Wait, what? Are you saying that you don't exist?"

No, not exactly.

"So you exist?"

The face in the shadows grins widely

No, not entirely

God, what a useless headache.

"And what are YOU doing here then, if you don't even exist?"

I am interested in seeing what you are going to do

"Why would you care what I'm going to do?"

Because you exist

"Oh my god you are such a weirdo. What's so exciting about somebody existing?"

Look over there, what do you see?

You look out over the horizon, it looks like some kind of weird swamp or ocean with a ship wrecked off in the distance.

"It's the same damn thing I saw a few minutes ago"

Exactly. It's so exciting! I can't wait to see what you do next!

"What? Why? I hate to tell you this, but nothing good is going to come of anything I try to do."

He grins again.

"Why don't you come out here where I can see you? What do you have in there anyway?"

Don't be silly, you can see everything in here just fine from where you are.

Oh, fuck this guy.

"If you aren't gonna help me, I'm just gonna fuck off." You stand up and pull your shirt on, it's still not dry but you've decided it's dry enough.

Oh, who said I wouldn't help you? You never asked for any help. If I can assist you in doing whatever it is that you intend to do, I will relish it!

"Yeah, sure. I completely believe you. Later, weirdo."

Very well, since you were a sport and answered my question, I will answer yours as well. I have been known by many names, but if I were to say 'who I am,' I suppose... I would be 'Trouble.'

"Trouble? Really?"

Not 'really', but for all intents and purposes.

"You sure aren't being very helpful right now."

well of course not, you still haven't even told me what you want to do.

This guy is just the absolute worst. Should you tell him what you want to do, or just walk off and let him sulk in his crack?

If that's true, then it's made of shadows.

You know what this is probably a bad idea but at least it'll be interesting. Tell Trouble that you intend to explore the island and survive until you find Pavane again, then the two of you can make plans to get back to civilization somehow.

Be careful with the wording. I don't think it's wise to tell Trouble you want to survive until you meet her.
