In two months, exactly one hundred years ago, the National Royal Confederacy of Allied Provinces defeated the Overlord, leading to a mutually agreeable living situation for all. The festival to celebrate this glorious event will eclipse all festivals to date. There will be dancing, food, drinking, music, and of course, the traditional sport of the NRCAP -- jelly golem wrestling. Wizards from across the land will compete in these contests of wit and skill, for fame and coin.

You are a wizard, specializing in jellycrafting.

98 year old mildly senile coot who comes in second place every year to that bigshot Baranor. Baranor.

But this year, you'll put him in his place, with your top secret new spherical golem!

You can craft a golem by spending a day in your workshop. The exact process is extremely complicated, but you know it very well. The result will be human sized, translucent, a bright color of your choice, obedient, stupid, and relatively stable. You could make several smaller, less powerful and competent golems if you liked, but this is not directly relevant to the contest. Crafting a golem occupies your supply of summoned jelly, and thus you cannot craft a new golem without banishing your old one.

The exact competence of your golem is somewhat unpredictable.
>As a result, in addition to name/color/shape/etc, choose balance 0-5, where 0 assigns stat points evenly, and 5 randomly min-maxes.

Hmm. We need to acquire more jelly, and of better quality. From superior materials will doubtless come a superior golem. Where could we acquire that?

Jelly is summoned, and thus isn't a material that you can purchase. You can improve your golem crafting abilities through practice, testing, and research.
>>
No. 416428 ID: 132b99

obviously we need to improve our workshop and summoning circle. get a bunch of lesser golems to help you build. unless you need money to upgrade. then build a battle golem, 5

Honestly, I'm tempted to vote for 5 just to see how interestingly it turns out. We can try creating more balanced golems later on.

You have sixty days and you can make a new golem once per day. There should be varied opportunities for testing until then, as well as chances to earn money for supplies, your tower, and books.

I need, at minimum, a color and a shape for the golem, in addition to the maximum imbalance you've picked.

You move the last bit of stray jelly into a more aesthetically pleasing location, and emerge from your workshop after a hard day's work.

Your creation seems fairly solid and stable, if nothing else. She looks at you, silently waiting. Or, more likely, she looks at you silently failing to have any expectations of the future whatsoever. You have no such limits.

You instruct your golem to run a few laps. She can get up to roughly a slow human jogging speed before losing track of her legs and plowing into the ground face first. This does not bother her.

She fares better at stacking crates, and you judge that she has roughly the strength of a comparable human.

You discover, through trial and error, that your golem can only remember one instruction at a time.

So shes a tank. Anything around that we can use her with? Perhaps an adventuring team needs something to soak up damage. Not dying could be worth a bit to them.

>>416455
You don't have much use for weapons, but you find the seat and leg of a stool to use as a club and buckler. Actually getting her to use them is a different story. Instructions to carry the club cause her to forget that the buckler exists, and vice versa. Instructions to swing the club around, or at specific targets, or to hold the buckler out to block work perfectly well, but not at the same time. You settle on leaving the buckler at home and carrying the club for your golem when instructing her to follow you.

Then, you go to the local tavern. While there are no mysterious hooded figures, or even adventurers, there is a notice board. Most of it is useless to you, but a local farmer wants to hire fighters to kill the giant rats in his basement. "Cum at noon bring own wepons will shar mony" is scribbled underneath. It seems like a good fit.

>>
No. 416482 ID: 71d68e

Okay, so our golem's an idiot that can't even remember to use a weapon and shield at the same time. Still, it's strong (and tough?) enough that it might be able to get by with just swinging. Let's test it out on some rat-killing.
>>
No. 416484 ID: 132b99

indeed. but is three stats all there is? meaning golems, at least the ones we have now. have 7 points total to distribute.
so a class 0 would have 2-2-3 in stats.
punching rats to death seems right up this one's alley though.
>>
No. 416486 ID: 71d68e

Huh, 7 happens to be the same as our wizard level. Does that mean if we advance to level 8, we'd get 8 stat points, and so on?

>There are 59 days remaining until the festival.
You enjoy a relaxing early morning. Then, when the sun is higher in the sky, you set off towards the farm.

You are met by two peasants armed with pitchforks, and an older man with an eyepatch. There is a sword strapped to his waist. Initially, they question the wisdom of bringing a jelly golem into battle, but when you volunteer to send her in first, they grudgingly agree. The older man points out to the others that, despite being a wizard, you're doing "real work," not "mucking about at gambling and magical cock-fights." This gets two affirmative grunts as a response.

The four of you have a brief meeting with the farmer, who confirms that each of you will receive 10c, which is enough to feed you for a week with a decent amount left over.

Hans, being the one with the sword, the eyepatch, and the assumed experience, assumes the position of leader and proposes that the jelly golem go in first, followed closely by himself, to clear a safe area for the pitchforks to rank up behind. The others do not object.

Anything immediately important, or do you want to proceed to last minute instructions to the golem before kicking in the door?

>>416486
This is right. Unless I change it due to issues.
>>
No. 416529 ID: 132b99

maybe explain the golem is a bit dumb, so after being ordered to do something it needs to be told to do something else to keep moving.

then start. "open door" once that is done say "kill rats" should just charge in punching the shit out of any rats in front of it.

We need to remain fairly close to the golem to manipulate its actions- it's not very smart, after all. Giving it last-minute instructions would be fairly pointless; we need to give it immediate short-term instructions repeatedly during battle, or it'll only act incompetently.

Carve it into its head then. If it's viscous enough to stay in one shape, surface tension would probably let us carve/impress/engrave stuff onto it. I hope. Magic!

the Golem story had it given instructions by writing the instructions on a paper and putting the paper in the mouth.

After agreeing on the plan, you head into the basement. Hans kicks the door in, and your golem runs to the front and occupies space. A surprised giant rat is there to greet her. Hans fills up the space your golem holds, and together they assault the rat viciously, leaving it unsteady on its feet. It takes a wobbling step backwards. The two peasants poke their pitchforks between the front line fighters. They're fairly ineffective, but the formation works and might actually effect the outcome of the fight eventually.

Then the other four giant rats appear. Previously busy digging through crates on the opposite end of the basement, they charge in defense of their home and their ally.

Any change in actions?

What you, the player, would consider "programming" is possible with a golem that has higher intelligence. Commands, however, are partially mental and partially spoken, and tied to you. Your golem cannot be stolen, or be given written instructions.

If it looks like the rats are going to try and get past the golem have her block them... otherwise proceed.
