You have been dormant, imprisoned in this dagger for centuries, handled by unclean cattle your progenitors would've slaughtered wholesale. You don't know how this happened, bout over the years, you have started to lose hope.

Then, you feel it. The presence of a worthy host. Old instincts reassert and you can feel the blade hone to a razor edge, the blood that holds you wetting it almost imperceptibly...

Energy surges through you, the blood beckons to you, and you feel the need to ravage the world once more! But...

You sense the blood of another wetting the blade. This is something you have not faced since you were first placed into this prison... a choice.

Male or Female?

(This will be a text quest, but I shall post an image with each update to make it easier to tell which posts are mine, and to help track... something. The art for the meter that you'll see shortly is by Craniate, I only wish I had her level of talent)

You move your essence into the young man's blood, changing his body in a number of ways. Making it stronger, faster, but all of this comes at a price.

While we're improving him, what attribute do you want to focus on? Normally you'd work on whatever he had a natural talent for, but he seems fairly average. You may choose to focus on his Brains, his Brawn, or his Reflexes. At this early stage you can't tell much about him, other then that he seems to be in his late adolescence, and is much healthier then any human you have ever encountered.

There are some tense moments as you deliberate with yourself over what action to take, but finally a majority wins out.

REFLEXES CHOSEN.

You get to work on improving your host's various functions, focusing on response time, general dexterity, and coordination while also improving resistance to pain. You note something in the hosts' blood that seems to be keeping them unconscious, and slowing down your work, though after what you're going to do next, it won't matter.

Once your renovations are complete you shut down the host's organs one by one, until finally, the heart stops, and the magic begins.

John wakes up hyperventilating, covered in a cold sweat, and feeling like he's about to vomit. His heart is racing, but you've managed to get it beating properly again at least. Thoughts are racing through his mind.

What happened?! Where am I? Why is it so cold in here?!

He begins panicking, and starts shivering now that he's realized how cold he feels. You'd better do something.

[spoilers] You sense another vampiric presence nearby. [/spoilers]

Anything of note occur when one attempts to feed on another vampiric entity?

Further, do the modifications made to the host make them incapable of producing blood, or is this exclusively our own need for blood, not our host's?

And lastly, did the host's spatial awareness get boosted with the reflexes?

Your instincts tell you that feeding on a vampire that you didn't create would grant you with a temporary boost in abilities in whatever that vampire was most skilled in, and would also sate your desire for blood almost completely. Furthermore, your host, who you now realize is named "John" Through some mechanism you don't understand, is incapable of producing blood as well as something akin to "life force, which is stored in blood. As for the last question, you boosted everything, John is more capable then a baseline human in every regard. Spatial awareness is especially boosted though, as it relates to your chosen sphere.

John opens his eyes, then squints against what seems like a flood of light. His eyes adjust after a few moments. A strange red glow seems to pervade the room.

Where the hell...

He's shivering almost uncontrollably now, it's psychosomatic, you're sure. You removed that reflex completely, but if he doesn't calm down soon he may very well go into shock and be unable to collect the blood you both require. He brings his hands to his face and screams when he sees how pale they are, and the dried blood from the knife wound.

WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH ME?

What is wrong is that you were alone, and dying.

I reached out to save you, to preserve your life.

I am bound in this knife, and cannot directly effect the world. But through you, I can. In exchange, I have restored your health, and made you more capable than you were before.

Ultimately, all I truly care now is that you continue living so that at the very least I can leave this place. Since I doubt you wish to die, that would mean we share this goal.

So calm yourself, for no matter what, you are not alone now.

Oh god, why are there voices in my head? Am I going crazy?! I wasn't dying! I just had a doctor's appointment a few months ago, I was fine! This isn't happening, this is a dream or some sort of.... I don't know. Knife? What Knife? There's no knife!

WHY AM I SO PALE?

John tries to get up, but his arms have not yet fully recovered so they fail him, which increases his panic. He looks at the clock only momentarily, but his reflexes allow him to read it just the same. It is 12:01 am.

The other vampire is moving toward you.

I understand that this is difficult to accept, but for now, let us put all that aside, a far more pressing concern exists: A potential threat on your life is gaining proximity to you.

Just for now, please focus on that, and listen to my suggestions. There are questions to be answered here, this is true, but first, our safety must be assured.

Try to roll an eye and look at the person approaching you without moving much. What do you see?

(If we have any way to do so, have the knife be ready to force our bearer to just stab the other, just in case we need to. And by stab, I don't mean just once, I mean until the knife can no longer cut the remaining pieces.)

(The knife is nowhere to be found. Maybe whoever used it to cut John left with it?)

Someone's approaching me? From the hallway?

John rolls his eyes to the hallway, and notices a young who looks to be in her early 20s, a redhead. Her eyes seem to be slightly glowing. With some effort John manages to push himself up. He seems to have calmed considerably.

"Callie, thank god, something really weird is happening."

That's just my sister, Callie. How did you know she was -

So you have it too.

Her lips aren't moving.

Team up with her.
Don't be suspicious or cagey, you need all the help you can get as fast as you can get it.
Also remember that blood DOES go bad, so blood banks and hospitals need to dispose of stock on a regular basis. Since they need a large safety margin, the blood is usually perfectly good when they toss it.

Team up with her? I guess I could, Yeah, I-

You have voices in your head? That's ... disturbing. I'd hope you had some ambition but apparently you're still too much of a child. If we were to "team up" as you so quaintly put it, then blood banks would not be involved. I'm going to get a proper meal and if you're going to be with me, then you're going to follow MY orders and do things MY way. Do you, all of you, understand?

A pang of hunger ripples through what you're fast beginning to think of as your body.

Blood level is getting dangerously low

Okay, critical question time:

What is more important to you:

Staying Alive

Or

Staying Societal Acceptable?

Because as it is right now.... those two may be mutually exclusive.

Okay, so... think of your current predicament like this. Basically, your body is now supercharged, compared to normal humans. We are responsible for this, and we did so because when we perceived you, you were dying [whether this is the truth is irrelevant].

There was a price to bring you back to health, though. You're body cannot create new energy fast enough to replenish what is lost so.... you now need to appropriate energy from others.

As of right now, the only source you can tap is blood. Which you will need to take from others. You are effectively a vampire.

So this is where the question comes in.

If becoming what common society labels as a monster, and having to do at best morally gray things to further your existence is unacceptable, so be it.

But if living, even if for just one more minute, one more second, if being able to exist as long as you can is what drives you.... then accept her offer for now. For she will help show you what you must do now to survive.

As time passes, hopefully those of us now merged with you shall be able to offer more, but at the moment, these are your options.

So choose.

No. We are going to team up. We are not your slaves, both of us are going to be sated if we team up. There could be more people trying to kill us, this is not the time for stupid meaningless power struggles.

John frowns. Socially acceptable? I don't really want to hurt anyone but...

As if they'd ever accept you. You remember what it was like growing up after mom died, and we were human then. If anyone found out about us now? They'd hunt us down like animals. They deserve everything that's coming to them.

She does have a point.

She sighs heavily. "As for not being my slave..."

John screams as a searing pain explodes behind his eyes, his vision swimming before him. As he clutches his head, a voice booms above all else.

If you Betray me, I can do much worse.

She releases him, and seems to be smirking. "Anyway, I'm leaving. If you're going to follow me, then get the lead out. " She turns and leaves down the hall. After a few moments, John goes after her. She left the door to the apartment wide open, and he can hear a faint rapping coming from outside. His stomach cramps.

Should I follow her?

Then what should I do? I'm starting to feel lightheaded, and the hunger is getting worse. I think it was bad before, and I was just too distracted to tell... He fingers his cellphone nervously, and walks to the window. He notices several men walking outside. One looks like a business man coming home from the bar, another is dressed in a bit of a ratty coat, you're not sure what to make of him. The last seems to be parking his car.

Sounds of a conversation drift from the open door, your hearing is better then it used to be, but you can't quite make out the words. After a few moments, the distinctive sounds of locks being undone reach your ears.

[spoiler] If you fail to feed soon, you run the risk of frenzy. [/spoiler)

Ambush? Which one? There are three of them, I think only the man Who's parking is headed for this building. Oh, I need to get down there.

John opens the window and begins crawling out as though it were completely natural. He is halfway outside before he realizes what he's thinking of doing.

No! Nonono, there's no way I could...

Before he can stop himself, he jumps down to street level, two stories below. The landing is almost silent.

... That didn't hurt at all! This is awesome! I... wait, no... focus. So.. what am I trying to do? Should I knock him out and drag him to an alley? Should I try to convince him to go somewhere dark, should I just bite him or what?

The man is approaching.

You can feel Callie's Aura grow stronger, she's probably feeding.

Courtesy can wait until you're not in danger of dying of starvation. Blindside him and knock his ass out.
