>(but she is limited to Earth magic for now, due to her race and subrace)

For now, ehh? If we find a loophole in the universe that allows us to use other elements of magic, will her bonuses to magic carry over to that element, or will that depend on the loophole in question?

Can she use water magic based artifacts like Flycatcher's Slime Ring, for example? If so, does her antennae also affect magic she may be creating through an artifact?

>For now, ehh? If we find a loophole in the universe that allows us to use other elements of magic, will her bonuses to magic carry over to that element, or will that depend on the loophole in question?

It's possible for mages to train in other elemental magic. It takes years to be versatile in one or two of the base four elements (water, air, fire, earth). After being able to use two elements at once, a mage is able to try the combination magic of two elements (lightning, lava, mud, steam, ice, sand). Masha can try to learn to use Fire and Air magic, but never Water and the relative combination magic.

>Can she use water magic based artifacts like Flycatcher's Slime Ring, for example? If so, does her antennae also affect magic she may be creating through an artifact?

She can use water based magic items and the effect that those can have on her will be amplified, but she won't be able to amplify the magic of an artifact/magical object against others, since the magic source comes from the artifact itself and not from Masha.

could we break the world by eating a water elemental and gaining it's power?

Eating a water elemental would probably kill you, since it doesn't kill the elemental and allows it to act inside your organs.

And considering Masha's enhanced reactivness to magic, it would probably make her explode.

They are. It's a particular spell that can be casted by powerful wizards. It enchants an amount of water to become sentient after a set amount of time. After that, the water transform into an elemental and tries to escape from the body, taking all the water it can with itself.

It's rather brutal, but there are ways around it. Kings and emperors have wards in their cups against this kind of magic.

The Groucho Glasses (or "completely normal moustaches and glasses") are a unique magical item that helps disguise a person (most of the time) by hiding their facial features (kinda). A goblin wearing those will look like a goblin with a big red nose and bushy moustaches and glasses.

They aren't a really good magic item...

>Or...Undead are so rare that they might as well be a myth in-universe?

Undead are relatively common. Necromancy, similarly to demonbinding is a condemned form of magic, but it's way easier to perform than golem creation or demonbinding. Necromancers usually creates links of magic that keeps together a body and let it act like a broken marionette that can follow simple orders. It also leaves the creature smelling of Lavander, which has been used for several centuries by necromancers to mask the foul odor of the rotten carcasses.

There are really few kinds of "intelligent" undeads. Vampires, Wraiths and Liches.

But i don't know why are we talking about this. Ulric is clearly a human.

>If a human loses an eye, does the Groucho Glasses' ability to hide facial features make it look like they still have that eye? Or is it moreso only good for if they've got a scar to hide?

It can. The glasses will show that you have two eyes, a nose and moustaches.

>Ah, so there are no intelligent Skeletons? Sounds like a Lich would be the only skeletal intelligent undead in that case. Tell us more about Liches!

Liches aren't skeletons at all! They are more similar to parasytic spirits.

To become a Lich, a necromancer needs to pour his own soul inside a container. The containers can be of various shapes and forms, but they are all made of a particular rare material. A black metal only found in the depths of the seas. This particular metal acts as a sponge for souls and the necromancer, through various incantations can start to link his soul into this newly made container, and let it be completely absorbed, killing the original body. After this, the spirit inside the container awakes anew. A soul bound to the material world, but free from costrains, fear or other curses that creates Ghosts. This is how a Lich is born. After that, the spirit is able to move around in this new container and, when needed, grab onto a living body. When it does so, the Lich eats the previous owner's soul, and occupies the body. From that point forward, the Lich can move and cast spells normally, draining the body's strenght little by little. When the body becomes to die, or rot, the Lich simply releases the husk and latches onto a new host.

Killing a Lich is really difficult, because the soul container is made of a really powerful metal (spoilers, that aren't really spoilers since we might never get to talk about it in the quest - Flycatcher's trident and one of the dagger are made of that same particular metal, which is why it didn't break when trying to cut through the skin of the demon in the first dungeon.), and the Lich residing inside is still able to cast part of his spells!

So, the soul can be extracted from the body by means other than physical death? Can souls be used if they're contained in something, like components or ingredients for items?

Oh that's a very different kind of Lich than I was expecting.

>>

>>96988

Yeah, in fact at the beginning of chapter 3 of FrogQuest Takabanda ripped Flycatcher's souls out of his body. The ritual he did before was so that the Soul wouldn't leave the body permanently.

Wraith singers (like takabanda), necromancers and few powerful demons are able to extract the souls of living creatures.

Wraith singers do so only to cleanse or link souls together, while necromancers use it to create wraiths, ghosts or as fuel for undead golems.

And demons... well i can't tell. Sorry.

Can a lich cast spells when not attached to a body? If not I would imagine imprisoning a lich would be significantly easier than killing one, since if you managed to disable the body you could then grab the lich vessel and stuff it in a box.

Also, can liches attach to non-humanoid things like dragons, demons or bears?

>Can a lich cast spells when not attached to a body? If not I would imagine imprisoning a lich would be significantly easier than killing one, since if you managed to disable the body you could then grab the lich vessel and stuff it in a box.

The lich can still cast most of his less powerful spells while not possessing a body. It's weaker, but they are not harmless at all.

>Also, can liches attach to non-humanoid things like dragons, demons or bears?

They can't attach to dragons, since they do not exist. Nor demons, since the body of a demon is nothing more than a dead container that the demon is using as a suit. The lich would have to fight with the demon's soul in order to take control, and with strong demon it might result in a defeat for the Lich.

Animals like bears, on the other hand...

Quick, start imagining the worst possible host a lich could be occupying.

Elephant? Troll? Giant scorpion? Mimic? Rock worm? Roc? Shark? Whale? Kraken?

Take your favourite overpowered / hard to kill / hard to target monster and add high level spellcasting.

So it has to be something with a soul for the Lich to take it over, then? No taking over golems, meaning they can't just construct a powerful body to take over, I suppose.

Although I wonder if a magician could cast growth and fire enchantments on a lizard and just stick it into a suit of armor. It'd still have a weak soul, I'd assume, since it's not a true dragon, but for the purposes of a lich, it would seerve the purpose.
>>
No. 97025 ID: 763404

>Elephant?
A Lich Elephant, the ultimate enemy of dwarfkind! The very thought is enough to make a dwarf consider the benefits of flooding the world with magma.

Though liches they can use animal hosts, does that mean there could theoretically be a non-murderous lich, or would the prolonged soul shenanigans inherent corrupt them anyway?

>The lich would have to fight with the demon's soul in order to take control,
...Can a lich attach to another lich's vessel (if they are confident they will win the soul fight) to become a double-lich? (A phylactery centipede?!)
>>
No. 97026 ID: cf91e4

I'd say a lion or some other big cat. Speed+dex/dodging+Spellcasting is a very powerful combination. The claws don't add a heck of a lot except to things really resistant to magic.
>>

>So it has to be something with a soul for the Lich to take it over, then? No taking over golems, meaning they can't just construct a powerful body to take over, I suppose.

Golems are powered by elemental souls. Similarly to demonbinding, a wizard creates a recipient and pulls a soul from a elemental plane inside. The elementals are usually not smart enough to realize what's going on, and tend to follow orders quickly. A Lich can easily attach to a golem, but it will miss out on things like empowering their own muscles or senses, since the golems are made mostly of inhert materials.

>Although I wonder if a magician could cast growth and fire enchantments on a lizard and just stick it into a suit of armor. It'd still have a weak soul, I'd assume, since it's not a true dragon, but for the purposes of a lich, it would seerve the purpose.

That would work, but no one would ever think the lizard can be a dragon.
