This thread is for the discussion of events and characters in the quest “Pariah”.
This is my first ever quest so I’m still learning how this works. Hopefully I’ll make something cool. Please feel free to ask any questions or offer any advice you can think of.
The story is still kinda rough so I’m hoping people will be patient with me. It's completely text based with appropriate images I can find, because i can't draw at all. Updates will come whenever I can make them, but I intend to keep them pretty regular.

Wait, so do the people in the fort dislike pariah? Has she ever interacted with them?
>>
No. 94323 ID: 8cc774

They actually don't really know her, they've never directly interacted with her. The reason she's nervous about them is because they take warning shots at however comes near the fort.
Not with the intention to hurt, just to scare people off. They're very protective of the land they have but not overly aggressive.

just because i'm paranoid. i thought i should say that a friend of mine is staying over and putting in suggestions in the story. that's why it looks like my ID is answering my own quest. no one probably cares but i just wanted to make sure nobody thought i was responding to my own story.

Seconded. In face visits should be for better things than internet forumry like sex, exothermic chemistry, or if you're horrible nerds then at least LAN gaming, tabletop dice and paper or boardgames like Settlers of Catan.

Keep up the decent writan work though.

So that was the first chapter of Pariah. I hope it was long enough. Updates might slow down for a few days since I'll be at a convention.

So what did you think about my first chapter of my first quest?
Any advice, compliments, or complaints?
Any Questions?

I can't believe it took me so damn long to get back to Pariah.

Back to our "regular" schedule.

Oh speaking of taking so long, your wiki account should be live. Sorry, sometime I forget I need to check if there are requests waiting for approval.

Damn, I'm terrible. Almost two months since an update. I just hope I can still go on with the story. Hopefully people still want to read it.
Updates might be a little slow but at least it's back.

You're not up to years yet, people have continued old quests after shelving them for years before.

If there's anybody here that reads Pariah. I would like your advice.
What do you think about the structure of the updates until now?
Is it better to do smaller updates more regularly? or to stick with the bigger updates at least every other day?
I'm worried i'm not giving you guys enough opportunities to make choices and suggestions.

The important questions for something like this are:
1) Are you asking your players questions they think are worth answering?
2) Do they know what's going on (as much as they should)?
3) Are there genuinely multiple answers to give, or should we change which question we're asking?
4) Are people interested and entertained, and if so what/who are they interested in?

You seem to be running a classical hero of a thousand faces quest mostly, which I'm not sure how to help you with much beyond noting that it's a plot construction that combines with coming of age and juvenile power fantasy.

Uh, I feel like the options are very open world-y right now, which is kind of difficult as honestly I'm struggling to regain momentum and remember what we should be doing. Be nice to have a concrete choice or two to orient with.

I'm so happy to be able to show what she looks like. She came out really great.
I'd also like to say thank you to Babinani for drawing this for me. Look her up on tumblr for more of her work.

Hehehe! She's adorable. Really got the wild girl angle down.

Also she left the dress more intact than I imagined.

So just a heads up for anybody that cares.
I won't be updating until Monday because i'll be busy with school. I might do a quick update on Friday, we'll see. But expect a huge ramp up in updates starting Monday.
I'm hoping to get two updates a day. Wanna chug through a big chunk of the story before Christmas.

And we're back.
Alright, some im gonna do at least two updates a day. But i'll do three if i get enough responses.

Here's a rough map to realign yourselves. Don't believe i posted it in the discussion thread.
If anybody has any questions i can try to answer them. Assuming of course they aren't spoilers.

Every time i make some error while updating, which is like every other time, i feel like my brain is gonna explode.
Why do i keep screwing up somewhere?

If you mean a formatting error (like the italics) you can always fix those by deleting and reposting if you notice them fast enough.

I wouldn't sweat it though, even big names long running authors make those kind of mistakes. (And suggestors do too- I'm always embarrassed when I miss a typo only for it to get quoted verbatim in a quest, thus immortalizing it).

(You could also check out this >>/meep/24283 , which has some options to make formatting easier and preview posts, if you want to set it up).

I write and edit in a text editor. The simple and easy way to catch things is to either get someone else to look it over or wait a day before looking it over and correct it oneself, before posting. When you've just made the mistake you either notice it immediately or you won't notice it until you've spent time getting it out of your mind, so you can look at it fresh. This is the number-one reason even awesome authors need editors, it at least doubles your production speed.

If you want to try harder or go faster than that, read your text at multiple different column/page widths. If the line-breaks are different you'll see the mistakes in it differently too, which should help you find errors you didn't notice before.

Also, specify a password when you post, this lets you delete it for certain when you post it and as soon as it's posted you see a mistake you missed earlier with the delete function at the bottom right of the page. I suggest you use different passwords for each post and keep them in your text file of quest posts with each post in case there's a forum problem issue that deletes posts or entire threads.

Welp, there goes another stretch of inactivity.
Had a surprisingly busy holidays then got sick. Can't have a good update rhythm now, can we?
So the new schedule will probably be an update every other day with the exception of Friday when i'll be writing all day.
On a side note, Pariah is rough about half way done, so that's nice.
Hope I can make the second half even better than the first.
