Thought I should make this before I forget to later on. How do you like the painting? :D Anyway, Rina Quest hasn't exactly gone too far just yet for discussion, but it'll get there. ;) If anyone has a question about anything or would like to provide feedback or advice in making Rina Quest better, please do feel free to post.

I wrote a summary for chapter 2 for the wiki.

I noticed you have been managing the quest's wiki page yourself, so if you write your own summary later mine can serve as a placeholder.

DISCLAIMER: Sorry to be meta, it's just how I roll, and how horror stories get survived or spoofed sometimes. And it's the easiest way to rationalize some decisions and its fun. I mean no disrespect to the Fidchell's story telling skills, and, in fact, I'm just having fun with the genre. Also, another disclaimer, this is another Dirtbag-esqe post rant/apology thing

I get that in quests, we should stray from meta based suggestions and have our suggestions based on realism and pragmatism relating to the situation at hand, analytical thinking, and not through analogical thinking formed from other stories, but I just can't help it. It's too easy, and I've always thought of quests not only as an authors story but a game between us and the author. We gotta win to get the characters out alive.

Everyone spends their entire lives these days watching these conflicts engage on screen, watching the characters make them worse through bad decisions. The ability to STAMP those awful decisions out before they happen is so alluring. And you know when they're going to happen. But you can't DO anything, the characters are going to do it anyway because, hey bitch, you're on the other side of the screen. Your best shot is someone like Abed from community or that one guy from SCREAM, but they never work, whether because SCREAM guy does something stupid and gets his ass killed, or Abed wants to watch how it turns out or no one takes him seriously, or these men are directly inside the narrative themselves, forced to comply and not notice some patterns.

Here, we have that chance to influence to motherfuckers we care about before they get their ass or someone important to them killed. That fun, that liberation, is so great. Fuck you screen, I got a keyboard and access to the fucking minds here. You can't hold me back narrative, and neither can anyone else here else held back. I'm going to take narrative by the balls and SHOVE it so far up its own ass. Or calm down and act like a rational being and suggestion again after this post not hyped up on a sugar rush, probably apologize for it, and continue the day because I'm not smart and suggest stupid things that aren't going to work too and eat my own words about shoving testicles up a metaphors ass.

TDLR, typical Dirtbag post.

All that is true, but you have to remember that if the protagonists don't fuck up every now and again, all the problems get solved, and the story becomes boring. You have to realize that you are not the main characters, and though you may empathize with them, what benefits you is not a successful character, but a good story. Get the characters out alive, or kill them all in an orgy of blood and screams, as long as it's an awesome story, then you win.

That said, they don't call B-movies B-movies because they have an awesome story. When the characters make lame decisions just to make it easy to fuck them over, that doesn't help the story either. So you're free to champion the characters and draw what you can from your extrastory knowledge to help, if it makes the story better in your opinion. But always look to the story to decide what you are going to do, not necessarily the well being of any particular character.

Not all stories have to end up like CheeQuest.

Well, I used basic logical reasoning for my first post (This is related to the situation at the time, regarding the future and we should try and deal with Glade's feelings as soon as practically possible), and my first post did have it's own meta reasoning behind it but I only explained that to seven in my second post to describe why I was thinking about the whole conflict this soon amidst this chaos.

As a reader and suggester, it's still my job to help stamp out as much conflicts as possible, before and after they happen. Big, main conflicts or ones already ongoing aren't going to be solved easily with metastory reasoning. To translate this into Rina's more real and human(furry) perspective, she was probably very concerned with the Glade conflict enough to try and weigh them in her head in a realistic manner, not drawing from meta-conflicts and using terms like character development as serious logic unless she's a movie/fiction buff. Speaking of which, she'll only compare her situation to a horror movie as a small joke or to try and make things simple for a third party, like with the injured cop, otherwise, she's not going to even talk about horror movies probably because she's not a movie nerd in life. So she's treating every suggestion as echoes in her mind, which may confuse her sometimes, but she'll resist some and follow others, so we don't have to worry about this turning into the crazy-awesome-slightly-meta Chee Quest ending. Her mind is acting normal, cutting each suggestion into the more important parts for easy understanding, so conflicts from her own mistakes will probably still happen, especially when they're polarizing.

This is how I usually perceive quests not using direct interaction with /quest/, suggestions are merely mental thoughts getting broken down to the important sensible bits and the nonsensical bits are just regular random mind drivel we ignore in our own heads because they're stupid.

I'm still going to concern myself over long-term things than short-term things though, even in a life or death situation. Someone has to think about possibly ending up in prison or an insane asylum for what they do to survive in horror movies. We've helped Rina avoid some dumb conflicts with the police already, through logical explanation that police can understand and not dismiss as completely crazy, and leaving clues to let the professionals realize that weird things are up in this biznitch and it's not Rina's fault. IF things keep going like they are, we might even convince the police that this most current conflict they think they have with Rina isn't her fault either, and stop hunting her down to let her do her thing. Thank god the cop we explained things to is still alive and for detailed police reports the chief probably filed before his possession. And that the Darkness is dumb enough to ignore this shit.

Questing is still a game to me, on top of a story being told, and I'm suggesting the path with least resistance because problem solving like that is as fun as reading a good story, which isn't necessarily sacrificed due to reasoning I've explained.

Light can trap the Darkness, paralyzing its renanimations long enough to put them out of commission. This process siphons out Darkness however, from the reanimation into the trap in Light's host. During times of trauma, either emotional or physical, this trap can weaken allowing the Darkness to physically push its way out. Indeed maintaining the trap seems to make one prone to such things. Rina only started to exude black ichor after "defeating" the Darkness several times, which trapped some of it inside her each time.

None of this involves stitching up wounds though, so if Light can help Rina then its abilities are yet to be revealed.

a number of people I've spoken with have mentioned really not liking your quests style.

I don't mind the style myself, but if your getting low response rates maybe that has something to do with it?

or maybe it's low activity within the community? people seem to forget about people who don't talk a lot on IRC.

Does the lack of exposed genitalia have to do with it? Jokes aside, I would REALLY like to know what people don't like about my quest and what I'm doing wrong, but I'm not getting anything. Plainly, continuing with this feels like a massive waste of time if I'm just trudging through and not getting much feedback or anything. I used to be super excited about doing this and getting attention, but it seems this isn't the place for me.

Yes your next update must be Darkness/Nysindra horror on horror hot sexy times.

The only problem I see with your quest is you don't put in enough hints. Sure you can't predict what /quest/ is going to suggest, but you can imagine what we might suggest, prepare yourself for drawing that, and leave a hint of what's to come in your latest panel. You can always treat the hint like a red herring if you later decide against taking the story in that direction.

Case in point, currently nothing is happening, the bad guys disappered, our man is down and there's just nothing we can do but wait!

Another problem is you keep having the characters get hurt in ridiculously serious ways, and then just shrug it off. Becomes a problem of oneupmanship (You walked off an impaled foot Rina. A stake through your hand should be nothing compared to that!"

I'll admit, I haven't been reading, but not because I don't like it (I loved it, actually), but just because I haven't been reading quests lately u .u

I don't see anything wrong with the style other than the lack of clear forward progress. Maybe if Rina had a clear goal, or you moved the plot along a little faster.

On that note, the 'Moth Announcement' posts are an excellent vessel for this, and I think you've already been using them that way. When the players are stuck, moth announcements in the form of puzzles with solutions that guide them in the right direction are a great device for this.

Sometimes I don't make things too straightforward just so I can see what people suggest, but I guess that may not be the right path to take.

Also, Rina took the branch to her upper leg, either way, it'd be best to progress the quest instead of focusing for several updates on the character's agony.

You could just have a bunch of people who read but don't normally suggest (such as myself). I can definitely see where you get the idea though, with the five month gap between posts here.

The site kind of has commitment issues from so many new threads disappearing after a week. Few quests ever come to a planned conclusion, and if a quest's not updating constantly, odds are it's already dead.

I know that everyone is aware that something weird is up, which is why we're going "WAKE UP IT'S A DREAM", but I think something even weirder is going on.

We were knocked out cold, with Miles close by. How did Harry deal with him? He hung back and probably managed to avoid the smoke while Rina approached Glade, even telling Rina to be careful so we can imagine and predict he himself was. What was that gas? How did Harry manage to form up with Glade and form a trap so quickly, with mysterious complex chemicals? Why is Nysandra allowing this sexual assault take place when it's a distraction from her goals? To control Harry better? Incentive to get him to go along? He's brainwashed, he'd follow anyway. And how can we be sure that the immediate image after Rina's incapacitation was reality? A split second nightmare before the bigger dream? REM sleep for many multiple dreams to takeplace in a single period of sleep, we just usually remember the latest dream before we woke up with the others occasionally flashing in and out of memory.

If that little disgusting scene was real though, we should make it a priority to get a morning after pill to make sure we don't have a satanic rapebaby sequel hook on our hands here.

i'm not sure i like this quest anymore.. rape isn't fun. i feel you went too far, Fidchell.
>>
No. 63110 ID: e3f578

I only feel rape in a story goes too far in a story if it tries to glorify it or if it's just trying to cheaply be edgy or a point of drama.
I didn't get the sense of either here. I mean shit, there's plenty of other quests here that include it as jokes as well as serious backstories. Really, it just sent home the point to the readers that Harry is an irredeemable psychopath that should be put fucking down and that we should have never played soft with the bastard in the first place.
Which, lets face it, we did or at least I did. Even after he murdered Janice in cold blood I felt that maybe we could undo his brainwashing by trying to get at whatever humanity he had left. Fidchell just closed that door hard when he revealed that Harry isn't some poor victim like anyone else here any more, he's just a stone cold hard monster you should stop trying to head down that branch before you get your ass killed. If Fidchell didn't write for Harry to do that Heinous crime, then it would have taken something else, possibly even something worse such as killing Glade, before we came to that conclusion. At least now we can have him bleed the fuck out on the floor while he's conscious, at least before he turns into a husk. Rina can live through this and overcome the trauma and maybe, if we're lucky, get the good end where all the people we care about are alive and hopefully not in jail, but even that ending is better than the one where one of our friends is dead.

Hi.

It's tough for me to progress this quest, guys, sorry. Especially when I've got other personal projects on hand. Don't know how many of you know about them, or my draw thread.

Anyway, to be honest, I'm not impressed with this quest at all and how I'm handling it. I'm putting forth quite a bit of effort in it, but it's a mess...and kinda boring. Definitely not my best work, but would anyone be interested in seeing another quest from me when this is over?

Well, after a bit more than a year, the quest is finally over. I hope the ending wasn't too abrupt. I've had a fun time and got a bit of help art-wise from the community that I'm grateful for. I put quite a bit of effort into this whole thing, but I'm still not sure what you guys really think about it. I'd love to hear your guys' thoughts.

As for making another quest...well, it's likely, but I won't happen for a while. I hope that with Rina Quest I've made some of you curious about other projects I have going on. I know some of you avoid DeviantART like the plague, but it's currently the one stop to see most of my art as well as my projects in work. Here is my account:

www.fiidchell.deviantart.com

It's on you guys whether you want to check it out or not, but if you liked the quest, I think you'll like what else I have to offer. I usually go for anthro stories with a dark atmosphere.

And I know some of you are irked when hearing anything about anthros, but if you haven't already noticed from the quest, I am taking a sharp turn away from the direction most anthro comics/stories go, that being one-dimensionality toward almost every aspect, and a blatant focus on sensuality. I try to make stories with memorable and believable characters. In other words, I'm trying to stand out and show everyone that not everything that has to do with anthros is an endless spew of fetish-centered nonsense.

Okay, I'm done rambling. I don't expect much from the completion of this quest, but I hope you all enjoyed my efforts anyway.

I also have a draw thread if anyone wasn't aware. http://tgchan.org/kusaba/draw/res/12137.html
