Wait a second, did we ever figure out if Viktor has a penis in his natural form?

He figured out how to "access" his naughty bits by reading about how a similar creature does it.

It seems like pretty much any of his tentacles can do it, though his 'main' ones are on his hands. Yes, the same hands which can turn into claws and shit. Viktor is kinda freaky.

I'm a bit confused by this; Ivet is neither blond nor a farmgirl, and if that's some sort of euphemism, I'm not aware of it. I'm going to assume it's something sexual and use it as a poorly-constructed segue into a topic I want to discuss, though, so bear with me.
Sex is coming up a bit in the last couple updates, as would be expected with a protagonist who has just entered a relationship. It is not now, nor will it ever be, the focus of the quest, and don't expect it to come up again with nearly the same frequency as it just did. What I hope it's communicating is a bit of the psychology of the new lovers. Particularly Ivet's psychology; her attraction to Viktor would, if given some sort of real-world human analogue, be considered at best weird and at worst cause for incarceration in a mental institution. The quest does not operate in the real world, however, so I'll leave the validity of their union given their circumstances and setting up to the reader.
Anyway, the main things to take away from this are A) don't let the sex scare you off, that's probably the most you'll see of it; B) don't let the sex drag you in, that's probably the most you'll see of it; and C) Ivet's hair is white, not blond.

Random and stupid mental image. Ivet has STRANGE interests, but that has been clear since the two met. They are in the 'joined at the crotch' stage of a new relationship, so that sort of thing is expected.

Hey I'ma go ahead and throw this up here for Ivet's new storm gear. I know it's gonna be a while until she gets it, but I might as well give you guys some time to come up with something nice.
I'm pretty permissive as far as magic item body slot affinities go, but she needs a few things that go vaguely in these areas:
shoulders
upper body
lower body
arms
hands
feet
head
They don't even really need to be distinctly separate items (I could say that Nosa put the shoulder enchantments one some straps, the upper body enchantments on a torso-covering bit, and the lower body part on a skirt and sewed them all together into a single dress that occupies all three slots) but those areas need to at least have something on them.
Feel free to change her hairstyle or add planty/mushroomy bits that she can grow on herself at-will anyway.
Also, reminder that she doesn't typically wear actual armor; this is clothing. In fact, she is prohibited from wearing metal armor by her druid abilities.

>"Hm, nondetection on the leader, or someone close by. Well, let's see..."
It's not Mind Blank. If it were Mind Blank, the crystal ball would've worked but Viktor would've just not shown up. He'd be basically invisible to the indirect scrying. So, Viktor has a good-level (possibly scaling with his level) Nondetection effect active.
>>

>>61341
You're assuming the nondetection came from Vik. Lothar and otherguy were adventurers and there are magic users in their party. That plus trying to start a rebellion with so much powerful magic in this city means I expect them to have nondetection to avoid scry and die.

Ivet's big into Charisma. This stuff's protections are entirely magical, so she doesn't have to cover a lot of skin, and she can't be grabbed or impeded so we don't have to worry about impractical ornamentation.
On the other hand, her use of charisma seems to favor cleverness over sex appeal. She seems to lean towards the cute side of the cute to sexy scale.
Also, the area she lives is kind of slummy, so she'd probably appreciate something that doesn't look too posh. Something that wouldn't look out of place at one of those fey parties, nor just walking around in a human city. Something she can "put on" instead of "dress in".
So, by my reasoning, an ideal design should:
- look nicer than peasant, not nicer than noble
- show some skin, but not be slutty about it
- look more like clothing than gear
Something like this? Maybe shorten the skirt just a hair and add long gloves and thigh-highs.

Hello I am back and my name is no longer relevant.

It seems people like this style better, overall? The difference seems to be a tradeoff of detail in favor of polish. If the new style smell wears off and you guys decide you liked the old one better, let me know. Neither is particularly more difficult for me than the other.
>>66610
Squiddy lasses are typically known as cecaelia in mythology, I believe. I didn't really claim to invent the idea. Undines, on the other hand, are creatures associated with water as one of the classical four elements, accompanied by salamanders, sylphs, and gnomes. It made sense at the time to name the primary inhabitants of the Elemental Plane of Water after them.

Not sure how I feel about the change in style quite yet. There's definitely trade-offs, and I think perhaps with just what we've seen so far I prefer the previous one, but I'm betting some of the issues I have are due to your break from the quest and adapting it to this style as opposed to problems with the style itself. (Nosa being very noticeably thinner and wispier as an example of things I'm not overly fond of) Lothar however seems to have adapted perfectly. Funnily enough for a Warlock, dude always seems to come out smelling like roses.

But yeah, feels too early to really judge the style change.
>>
No. 73140 ID: f3bc2e

I don't have any problem with the art whatsoever. if Nosa was meant to be gaunt and really tall for an elf, then that's something the new style is better at showing. if not, well everybody else looks clearly recognizable so meh.

it did change the overall feel of the quest quite a bit, though. the earlier sketch lines always reminded me of the haze of the hunger. now it feels clean and clear.
>>
No. 73144 ID: 885ee8

>>73140
Part of it is that the new style is a little cartoonier, which I think results in all the ladies being a little thinner and all the dudes being a little thicker. Elves are supposed to be tall/slender too, traditionally speaking, and I did always give her sort of a long, thin face in the older style. Plus, she was previously wearing big ol' gloves and a not-very-form-revealing tshirt.

But, those are all just justifications after the fact. If I'm being perfectly frank, I probably pushed it a little farther than I needed to just to visually distance her from her old depictions for the sake of the little misdirection there at the beginning, before I called the thread Oblitus. Looking back, I forgot I had drawn her a little chestier than the average lady of her build. Whoops.

Figured Elves were supposed to be slender and tall, but it really makes Nosa feel a lot different. Not sure how clearly I can put this, but the fact that she had a fairly normal build despite being an elf made her seem more like she was very hands-on regarding her craft. I almost wanna say she had a very gear-head sorta vibe going that extended further than just the way she dressed. For instance she wasn't too much taller than Ivet but Nosa's arms were pretty clearly thicker. Definitely didn't look frail. Her build now though, well I find myself wondering just how many bones she'd break from a short fall and if she really does do any of the manual work at the shop, or if all she does is magic, accounting, and working the desk.

If I'm being totally honest, my brain has a great deal of trouble accepting that they're the same character. The builds suggest entirely different lifestyles.

That's a very valid point, and I find myself agreeing. Expect her design to change next update, then.

So what do you think of raiding the city's morgue at night and just eating all the dead people?

Vik's on record as disliking anything that's been dead for more than a few seconds, but I wonder if we could. Like if all that dead meat would make us stronger or if it would just be pointless gross slop.
And if it is useless, does that have anything to do with the presence or absence of a soul in what we eat? The shadepriests are probably nothing but soul and possibly some necrotic flesh, and they were inedible.
>>

it could be just because we couldn't GRAB the ghosts. if we get some kind of ghost-touch ring that let's us grab ghosts we may be able to eat them.
>>
No. 73570 ID: f5680f

>>73567
Now that would be an interesting experiment. Would a Ghost Touch amulet of Mighty Fists work there? Apparently ghosts are also affected by Force effects, so Bigby's Grasping Hand could work to grapple a ghost. I'm not sure Viktor would be able to eat a ghost even if it was held still, though. It depends on how his stomach actually works I guess.
>>
No. 73589 ID: 3bad4c

Ghosts are actually solid on the Ethereal plane, their incorporeal nature is directly due to their Manifestation ability (sort of like nudging against the Material plane) rather than an actual property of their physical form. Going to the Ethereal plane (very briefly - there are spells for that), grabbing a ghost and eating it there would work fine.

I'd guess trying to eat its incorporeal manifestation would be about as effective as eating a fart instead of the farter.

It's still just going to be made of ectoplasm though, not tasty at all.

viktor is using natural attacks right?
there's a list of items we might want to consider here:
http://brilliantgameologists.com/boards/index.php?topic=10994.0;

of note are Fanged Ring which greatly increases damage, Ghost Shroud which viktor touch ghosts and gives a minor boost to AC and the Necklace of Natural Weapons or Amulet of Mighty Fists (one of the two, they don't stack) - both of which allow his natural weapons to be enchanted as normal weapons.

They are similar in many respects. It's safe to say that Viktor knows they're big, dangerous, magical, hungry monsters that come in different colors which dictate their associated elemental attack and affects their dispositions. >>
No. 74390 ID: 885ee8

People had questions about some of the abilities in IRC, so I'll post some important info here.

The necromancy upgrade got the most questions so I'll talk about that one first. The creatures we create will not have all of Vik's powers or even all of their own. They'll be modified (slightly aberration-y) zombie versions of their base creatures, which means they'll be without class levels or supernatural abilities. They will not be intelligent, but will be able to communicate telepathically with Viktor and will respond to simple commands, including ones to relay specific information about what they observe. Animals will work, so if Viktor got it now, he could make a zombie cow. He could make a zombie rat or some other small innocuous animal, provided he could eat one, but anyone who saw it would be able to tell that it was some sort of strange undead creature. The creature must have a skeletal system for the zombification process to work. It also can't be too powerful (specifically, the resulting zombie can't have too many hit dice) so the Ash Crow is out. Everyone else so far is still in.

The shapeshifting upgrade will allow Viktor to create normal, mundane metals like iron and steel. He will not be able to create valuable metals like gold or silver, nor mimic the special properties of non-mundane metals including but not limited to: adamantine, alchemical silver, cold iron, or mithral. If, for some reason, he wanted to make something look like those things, he could. The metal bits are still part of his body and will still need to be attached. For example, if he makes a sword it will have to be stuck to his palm. If the blade of the sword were sundered off, he would lose mass and take damage, just as if a tentacle were cut off.

As for the divination-misdirection one, Viktor already has some way to be resistant or immune to scrying spells in particular. This would be an upgrade of that ability, granting him awareness of scrying attempts and the option to feed the scryer false information. The ability would also extend to other types of divination spells: for example, the various alignment detection spells or being locating spells.

As for suggestions, I like them but do make sure they're thematically appropriate. Having him gain, say, a fire attack wouldn't make much sense.

Vik's not actually a warlock, he just has a lot in common with them. Warlocks don't get many magic powers, they get either zero or one per level, but they get to use them at will. Turning meat to metal, creating zombies, and fooling divination spells are magic powers that Vik will be able to use at will. In other words, we ARE leveling up our Warlock abilities. We just don't have the same invocation list.

No. It might if we upgrade it again, though.

Question: Vic makes a zombie. Zombie ingests a mouthful of delicious meat. Vic reabsorbs zombie. Does that extra meat get added to Vic's mass? And in high enough quantities, could he level up from it?

If you ask me it stands to reason that if a zombie eats something, that something is added to its mass, because it's now in its possibly-nonfunctional stomach.

Guys, unicorns have Magic Circle against Evil active at all times. NOT SO GREAT FOR US.

it grants everything in the circle protection against evil, and stops summoned things from entering. but we are not a summon, our physical body is here.

Guys guys guys guys guys. It might be kinda dark, but what if we farm meat from some dude?

Step 1: acquire asshole

Step 2: take a bite. Just a little bite.

Step 3: Ivet heals him for the damage.

Step 4: he now has more meat on him. Bite him again.

Repeat the process for maximum profit!

Now I know this might technically be cheating, so we probably can't do it. And like, I said, it's a little dark even with ivet's mellow shrooms and might take this quest somewhere we don't want to go, but I couldn't just NOT bring it up. It could also be applicable during the course of a battle.

Easier way to do that is capture a regenerating creature. Like a troll or something.

If we can find one, sure. Might take longer.

I still think Sketchy wont let us.

I expect we could do this, but I also expect we have a maximum size that only goes up when we eat something with a soul. So I think the most gains we'd get out of it would be Viktor learning about his nature.

also we may eat the arm part of their soul or something, and it results in them having dead-limb syndrome. so we get nothing out of it.

Semester just started, I just moved, and I got a job. I need some time to get settled in, but I will continue to update as time permits. Sorry for the delay.

Don't worry about it. It happens to all of us. Occasionally things come up and life gets in the way. So don't pressure yourself, okay?
