The lever is a pretty obvious trap, honestly. I mean, really, it's fucking huge and has a gem sitting on top of it. It is meant to draw the eye and seem like a good idea and potential way of solving the room's puzzle.

The circles are, likely, teleportation rings. The one on the far wall seems odd to me; it's almost as big as a person. If there is a mousehole in this room then you have to go through it and come out the tiny one on the floor, then carry the key through the, not-a-straight-line mouse hole. If not, you likely have to drop the key through one until it comes out the one that's past the line on the wall; it can't pass, physically, but if it goes through a portal, it won't count.
