Transfer! This experiment is not done yet!

I am, however, also in favor of Project Glasshouse. Depending on final Volviti size, the Ignole may end up performing roles which require fitting indoors.

I support the Transfer option, we can always inhibit the growth of the subject if genetic/structural stability and integrity becomes an issue.
Now that also means we may have to devote further resources to maintaining "Garden's" health but honestly the risks are worth the rewards.

Now regarding "Glasshouse", I am in favor of combining the projects.
Having two operatives on terrain at the same time is definitely a bonus, it brings added versatility and make the subjects even more lethal when combined.
That and we won't have to create two suits of power armor.

>As the one who suggested forking in the first place, I'd be willing to support recombining.
>Project Glasshouse has my interest.

Such unwarranted optimism and an unabashed attempt to leech Boiler Team's genius.

Project Glasshouse approved.

>Giant mutant plant means more giant mutant plant.
>I vote to transfer and cease stifling growth rate. Let's see how big this thing can get!
>I support the Transfer option, we can always inhibit the growth of the subject if genetic/structural stability and integrity becomes an issue.
Unfortunately this experiment will encounter a definite upper boundary regardless of the capabilities of the hybridised Volviti clone: it is necessarily going to be limited by the cockpit capacity of the captured courier craft.

>Archive design notes for kaiju-scale metroid/volviti hybrids as a possible future project.
Research note created.

>So... counter-proposal: Give the two a mech, rather than directly integrating them into one suit.
If they are to be piloting a vehicle, what was the point in selecting exotic physiologies? Additionally the courier craft does not have sufficient capacity.

A technician somehow became entangled in the Volviti's lower vines during the transfer to the large specimen tank and has died. The body has been placed in the tank with the Volviti clone rather than risk damaging the Volviti specimen by attempting to extricate it.

Cause of death appears to be paralysis caused by complete cessation of brain function. The body has not shown the characteristic structural deterioration of Metroid feeding. As suspected, the Volviti hybrid has clearly not fully replicated a Metroid's abilities.

>Let it grow while we move our focus to the next step, getting some brains, get that line-up of troops in here and strap 'em to the brain remover. Do a few test runs on the ones that are considered to be extra stupid before doing the real extraction on a proper trooper.
The power armour concept articulated thus far will require far deeper integration with the Volviti clone than the Ignole clone and there is still considerable physiological uncertainty regarding the brain case design due to the specimen's mutation.

For these reasons, the remaining time before the projects are merged will be used on prototyping of power suit features tailored for the Volviti clone.

The power suit will encompass numerous subsystems of life support, environmental adaptation, user protection, mobility systems, scanning, logging and analysis, support systems and, of course, weaponry.

A high level concept may be useful to set design priorities and enhance capability by designing synergistic systems that make multiple uses of power suit subcomponents.

An initial working set of power suit features should be proposed now.

Racking up a kill before it's even decanted. Impressive work, Garden Team.

I'm sure we accounted for ship size before deciding on a Luminoth as a possible cloning candidate, so that ceiling is not too low, I trust. Regardless of ship size, Project Glasshouse subjects already need to endure long-term cohabitation of a very cramped space.

Targeting and stabilisation systems for the natural railgun may be incorporated. The suit should also contain a system to restrain the so-called 'pilot', in case we use the suit to transport someone other than Project Boiler. In other circumstances, however, the Volviti's role will be that of 'gunner', leaving the dictation of movement to the Ignole while focusing on targeting. Shoulder-mounted weaponry should facilitate independent movement and targeting. Ports on the arms, back and legs allow the Volviti to extend its enhanced manipulators outside of the suit for... whatever reasons you might want a second pair of hands. System infiltration, power absorption, corpse disposal, that sort of thing. Special attention is needed for the Varia systems which will maintain not one, but two constant environments within the suit.

Consider adapting the ship's control systems into the power suit, to maximize available cabin space, allowing us to simply step into and out of our spacefaring apparatus without the need for pesky things like elbow room. The only other thing we need space for is a holding cell, for those rare bounties that make it back alive.

Wait, wait, I got the roles mixed up. The Volviti will probably occupy the majority of the limbs' extremities, so why let someone else dictate its movement? The Ignole should take the role of Gunner, not the Volviti. With that switch in roles, perhaps instead of/in addition to shoulder mounts, a second set of arms be built into the suit to allow the Ignole to handle targeting while the Volviti is moving. The primary arms could specialize in climbing, deflection and the application of blunt instruments.
This assumes that our Volviti clone will grow to fill out this tank and end up notably larger than the Ignole's hot form (or Bignole).

Flexible body structure aside, if Glasshouse moves forward, we really should limit clone size in order to fit two bodies in one suit of power armor and still be able to move through a standard-sized hatch.

As for the armor, first and foremost we will require systems to assure that our paired pilots will not damage eachother, either with poorly understood metroid feeding mechanisms or temperature extremes.

The initial Glasshouse design documents placed the Ignole in the skeletal structure of the power suit, and wrapped our Volviti around it due to its flexible limb structure. This configuration implies that we will be more closely integrated with the suit's functions. Becoming part of the armor.
To that end, the Volviti subject's integration into the suit should primarily focus on handling secondary systems such as targeting, communications, electronics interfacing, and potentially exotic movement systems such as anything related to vine brachiation. While it may be necessary to operate in an independent capacity from time to time as an "empty" suit, the Ignole should be afforded primary control of normal movement and any arm-based weapon systems.

We should also find a place to mount a gimballed gun of some sort, capable of tracking fast moving targets with a wide field of fire independent of suit movement. On a traditional vehicle this would be labeled a turret. I recommend a shoulder mount, but the hard-point location can be decided later.

Well, any heat dumps should dump directly into the ignole compartment--presumably, the ignole will have some thin zero suit type armor, so we'll probably need data ports to connect one to the other, and we'll have to fit those between volviti tendrils. IN FACT! Let's model the power suit after the human brain's natural protection! We have pia mater, which is the fine material wrapping the brain, and we have dura mater, which is the tough material bound to the skull. Between those two layers is the arachnoid mater, which connects the layers with many strands suspended in cerebrospinal fluid to act as a buffer and hold the brain in place.

In the analogy, the pia mater is the zero suit around the ignole, the dura mater is the inner layer of the power suit, the arachnoid mater is the data and structural interconnect between the zero suit and the power suit, and the cerebrospinal fluid is the volviti. All those soft, squishy plant materials should provide a wonderful buffer for our ignole. The "arachnoid mater" will, of course, be detachable. The "pia mater" should be VERY WELL INSULATED against heat and radiation, so that both creatures can have their favored enfironment. We should give the same treatment to any tendrils of the arachnoid mater that we're using as heat channels. We could put the volviti brain in a backpack or something like that. We also might want to consider having the pia mater be a permanent fixture of the suit, and make that the interface between the zero suit and the power suit--that actually would probably make more sense.

That would be impressive if it wasn't blue on blue. Any cooky moron can just grab a gun and shoot a teammate.
Now, shooting an active enemy? That is something I can get behind; unless we choose to specialize this particular subject in the dispatching of friendly janitors.

>>816862
I'm not sure prioritizing the natural railgun of "Garden" may be such a good idea given its proximity to "Boiler"; in the same way that having "Garden" exposed to the sweltering heat of "Boiler" seems like a quick way to disaster.
Reliance on natural weaponry should be minimal as the suit itself and conventional armaments ought to surpass it handily; as such the suit should instead be tailored towards a greater compatibility for both subjects.
As my colleague >>816877 points out however, ports are of the utmost necessity both for added but also for venting excess temperature from the Ignole. We also need to make the suit "drive-able" by both subjects alone as they might be separated and make the extraction of both subject quick enough.

>A technician has died. Seems to have been caused by paralysis through total lack of brain function.
Interesting development, it seems our hybrid can siphon from the the bioelectric processes of prey, in this case: halting all neural activity. Very deadly, I imagine this would make it particularly effective against other Volviti in close quarters.

Note: Test this theory with proper observational equipment.

>Power suit features should be proposed now.
If this most recent development shows us anything, we will need for the two occupants to be thoroughly insulated from each other's more detrimental tactile issues (Volviti sapping, Ignole temperature)

life support/environmental adaptation:
Okay, so, we clearly need a powerful generator to power the Volviti's energy requirements and abilities. It's growing bigger than normal which means we're going to need an even better generator than before. Maybe two generators, for redundancy?
Thermal insulation will help shield both pilots from the cold, so that'd make for good returns. However, there should be some heat channels that can be opened to allow heat to reach the Ignole when the environment is hot. ONLY the Ignole, however. The Volviti won't tolerate heat as well. Some effort should be made to ensure the Volviti's compartment remains at tolerable temperatures... could be tricky considering the Volviti is embedded in the suit's shell.
We could send waste heat from the generator to the Ignole's compartment, too. Nice and toasty. Heck, we could apply heating coils directly to the Ignole while it's in the pilot seat, to convert some of the generator's output to heat when needed.
Obviously we're going to need some sort of air supply for the Ignole. Does the Volviti breathe?

user protection:
The power suit's going to have a lot of electricity going through it, can we put in some shields? The armor plating can be fairly thick since the suit design will be bulky by necessity.

mobility systems:
Bulky power armor and an extra body in the suit means gliding is probably not going to happen. Jumping might be okay since both pilots will be assisting it. Then again, if the generator is strong enough it might be able to induce enough of a glide effect with the Volviti's help (or directly shoving electricity into the Volviti's glide mechanism) for it to be useful? Like a slow fall thing instead of outright gliding. We've got the power output for some magnetic grip shenanigans, why not put that in. Underwater movement will be a problem, not sure how to solve that.
Maybe we can reduce the bulk issue by using lightweight materials. Or, if the generator(s) turn out to contribute the most weight we could focus on energy storage instead and allow the generator(s) to be detached when needed.

scanning:
Standard scanning visor is good. A specialized visor to sense heat would make sense considering the Ignole's interest in it, and an electrical sense visor would be useful for the Volviti.

logging and analysis:
Is the organic hacking tool in? We voted on additional features but it wasn't said what features were implemented.
Regardless, we should probably have something to analyze enemy strengths and weaknesses so the duo can fight effectively.

support systems:
How about a flashlight? Automap system? Inventory space.
Of course we should apply that induction coil idea for the Volviti to allow for extended stamina, but it's really only going to be for emergencies. The larger capacitor bank should be enough for now. Speaking of which, we should allow some room to add coil expansion packs later on.
Since the Volviti is partially augmenting the suit's limbs with its strength, we could include a low power mode where the suit doesn't use its actuators at all.
We need to ensure that the Ignole shrinking into her secondary form will not cause any problems. Optimally the pilots should stay synched up while the Ignole is shrunk; if the Ignole was the "dominant" pilot this will reduce performance so either the main pilot needs to be able to switch freely or the Volviti should be the main driver at all times. The Ignole should of course have the ability to exit the suit when the smaller form is needed (or when the suit is too bulky and she needs to advance in her predator form). The Volviti should be able to pilot the suit even when the Ignole isn't in it.

weaponry:
Where is the Volviti's railgun? The power armor should include a structure to boost the railgun's effectiveness and provide ammo for it. Specialized railgun slugs, perhaps? Similarly, there should be some structure at the Ignole's mouth to allow her to use her heat breath without exiting the suit. Though if she uses it without some source of heat to keep her warm she'll wind up needing to exit the suit anyway due to the form change.
We could easily design a taser into the suit. Also, laser/energy beam weaponry. A flamethrower or heat ray, to serve as a double purpose system- to warm the environment and to damage enemies. Some kind of melee weapon, perhaps... mole claws? For digging into the environment and tearing into enemies. The Ignole would certainly take well to claws.
One of the guns should be detachable so that when the Ignole leaves the suit she'll have something to defend herself with. Or maybe we can just have one in the inventory storage.

Please develop some way to prevent your (impressive) hybrid from devouring the neural energy of everything it touches. Since this is a two-person venture, it becomes a liability the longer you leave it unattended.

...Also, I was planning on working on power armor on the other side but got caught up in the cybernetics, so I'm going to suggest an outer exoskeleton (much like a normal Zebesian), with a flexible endoskeleton for the Volviti hybrid to latch onto. Also, have you lot considered the necessary modifications to Project Garden's power armor for Project Boiler's Pseudo-Morph-Ball abilities? I understand Garden's body is much larger, but as it has no bones, can you figure some way to compress it without killing it?

Observation: Immature unit's first kill!
assessment: D'aww. [communications error, ignore] appreciation of darling little mutant's abilities.
Speculation: Upon reaching maturity, subject may so express itself upon a whole federation of humans.

Agreement: manually activated restraint and isolation of Boiler component. Cite "restraint of hypothetical prisoner" as justification.

Proposal: Variable magnetic field. Augment and partially automate Volvizilla field effector.
Function as life-support for Garden.
Operates as Garden-operated magnetic drive as per Volviti specifications with augmentation to allow suspension of costume and both pilots.
Low-radius constant field for repulsion of low-mass magnetic particles such as plasma weaponry.
Large-radius intense-pulse field for deflection of high-mass magnetic particles such as mass-driver weaponry.
Synchronised pulses for disruption of mental functions in surrounding area.

Proposal: Pressurised Projectile/Pilot Propulsion.
Rapidly open costume's interior compartment and eject the contents at high velocities. Necessary for refuse expulsion. Possibility exists of propelling Boiler to objective that would otherwise exceed available time or access.

Request: Boiler Staff provide summary of current Boiler properties and projections.

I'm not really very happy with that previous power suit design, so I thought I'd come up with some more possibilities for the basic structure. Admittedly, two of them are more like small mechs, but I believe they still fit within power armor limits, equivalent to the armorsuit used by the bounty hunter Ghor. Note that the positions of the Volviti and Ignole could likely be reversed in the third design here, potentially making some sort of hatch for the Ignole's exit easier to build in.

The middle one I don't believe would really work well, but I included because the possibility of cloth-like material acting as a means of interaction with environmental heat or electromagnetics seemed interesting, as did the idea of the volviti concealing its vines amidst some kind of "skirt".
>>
No. 817023 ID: 3ce125

>>816990
That second one is interesting... instead of the Volviti's limbs being hidden with cloth when they're in use, we could disguise them as robotic tentacle limbs.

It does lose the possibility of using the vine limbs as further strength enhancement for the Ignole's limbs, but it opens up the possibility of using them directly to absorb electricity or other uses of the Volviti's vines. Also, easier to thermally insulate the pilots since in that design they're much more separate.
The design is also less bulky. Gliding would be easier to implement. On the other hand, the pilots being in isolated compartments is getting a little close to just having them in separate power suits that can link up. I guess that's not a terrible implementation of Glasshouse though...

To minimize skill redundancy in rehabilitation and training, Garden should be controlling the suit's long-range sensors, projectile weapons or missiles, and flight systems, while Boiler handles ground locomotion and close-in weapons.
>>816990
I like the second and third concepts here. Thickest armor plates should be concentrated around the parts that don't grow back, of course, with limbs prioritizing range of motion and ease of repair or replacement. Miniaturized reactor in the backpack, with fold-out wings to improve gliding performance and serve as backup heat rejection system when Boiler's abilities are unavailable. Garden's rad-tolerant biology means we can cut corners on reactor shielding, which saves valuable bulk and mass. Actually, let's try to integrate as much of the rad shielding as possible into the "metroid-proof" isolation layer separating the two of them, leaving Garden more or less inside the reactor and it's delicious magnetic fields.

Bounty hunting may involve live capture, and salvage will certainly require not obliterating the loot before it can be retrieved, so let's include a rack of mini-missiles and see if we can cook up some less-than-lethal warheads for 'em. Sticky goo, bolas, EMP, smoke or tear gas, rubbery plastic that deforms on impact to concuss and knock down with minimal risk of penetration, that kind of thing.

Wonderful concepts! I think I'd go with 1 or 3 as they have the most room for the Volviti. 1 is definitely the handiest and feels more like a suit than a vehicle, but 3 has even more room for the Volviti, which may be important. 2... well, I guess the exoskeleton would help carry the Volviti's weight for the Ignole, but if that failed the Volviti would need to extend its tentacle skirt and take over locomotion before the Ignole's back broke. Also, I'm sorry but the hat with drapes is entirely too silly.

Logs of previous encounters with the hunter indicate that good aerial maneuverability is immensely important for exploration as well as tactical maneuvering, and is almost always a difficult ability for the hunter to acquire as well.

The Volviti's natural high-flying escapades are an inherent ability highly likely to be hampered by the hybrid's unusual size, not to mention the additional burdens of powered armor and a dead weightsecond trooper. As such focusing on amplifying and assisting this gliding capability should be a high priority during power armor design.

Hmm, if we allow the Volviti to detach and act independently we could outright design the detachment part to optimize gliding/flight. We could optimize the Ignole part for... I don't know, jumping/leaping? Together (and with wall grip) they might be able to do some really long-distance triangle jumps.
I'm not sure what tasks the Ignole would otherwise want to separate for, aside from swimming in lava. I suppose we could design the Ignole half to work well in fluid, with sonar or something to see even in opaque fluid like lava. Do Ignoles swim in lava at all?

Biggest problem with swimming in lava (apart from designing a vehicle entirely out of materials that won't melt, of course) is the ballast. Y'see, molten rock is about the same density as solid rock, and effective submersion requires an average density about the same as the surrounding fluid. Back-of-the-envelope calculation says we'd have to incorporate around twice the subject's weight in tungsten-iridium alloy plating just to keep them from bobbing to the surface like a cork. Do we even have that much to spare? There'd need to be even more for any other low-density systems inside the armor - such as the hydraulic power assist necessary to move all that weight at combat speed. Next thing you know, you're sketching up a bathysphere with liquid helium all over the electronics.

>Hmm, if we allow the Volviti to detach and act independently we could outright design the detachment part to optimize gliding/flight.
I do like the idea of making the suit to be able to let both subject act separately if need be. Wether it be because on of the subject can no longer fight, we find a situation where having two subject is more beneficial then one, or if they need to travel across hazardous terrain that one subject is better suited for but risks the health of the other .

>We could optimize the Ignole part for... I don't know, jumping/leaping? Together (and with wall grip) they might be able to do some really long-distance triangle jumps.
An idea I had for the Ignole was a harpoon/grappling gun. Idea was harpoon/bolt with retractable fins on the arrow head that could be fired with enough force to pierce most surfaces to allow the Ignole to zipline across areas to either quickly traverse terrain, close the gap between enemies, quickly escape, or offensively and seeing how the clone is heaver then normal if the grappling gun is fired at an enemy it could go through them then yank them back towards the clone to be finished off if the harpoon hasn't done so already. Might help catch running bounties as well. Or if the enemy happens to be heavier then the clone then the clone can simply zipline quickly to the target to get within melee range.

>Do Ignoles swim in lava at all?
I believe they can survive in it as their tolerance for heat is boarding along the absurd. Not sure about swimming though.

>what the heck do Ignoles eat anyway
...we should look this up for both clones before we put a new brain in them just to make sure we don't poison them by having them eat something they shouldn't have.

Given the draining aspect of the subject, and the fact that is seems to focus on neural energy, we should probably check our previous research on using Metroid as power sources by extracting energy from them, as well as research in feeding them off alternative power sources than life energy.
Given we managed to successfully extract energy from Metroids and power machinery from them, with the main downside being their unceasing aggressiveness, Metroid/Volviti Hybrids might prove to be more useful, since they can be easily lobotomized.
Not to mention if Greenhouse can generate significant energy by draining victims, that energy can be either stored or used to overcharge certain parts of the suit.

In addition, do we have data on magnetic grapple technology? That seems like it would synergise well with Grenhouse as part of it's armor.

Proposal: Straw: In the case of The Garden Component being reduced to critical energy levels. an armoured, sharpened tube can be inserted from the Garden enclosure into the top of the forward storage area to facilitate an in-flight meal.

Proposal: Reconfigurable arm panels: Garden can insert tendrils through multiple mechanical units in arm panels and manipulate them into various preset configurations.
Armour: Of primary importance. Passive mode that should not greatly reduce the integrity of the costume's protective facilities.
Railgun: 'Arm' section expands into a support system for the Violvanti's innate railgun. Incorporation of biological and mechanical components should minimise permanent degeneration of the difficult-to-repair mechanical sections while making use of their high resistance to shocks. Violvanti's highly regenerative nature with relatively low component-destruction thresholds(when compared to armoured costumes) could absorb and annul unavoidable degeneration while being shielded from stresses that the mechanical components can withstand and augmented by mechanical power sources and consistent targeting components.
Manipulator: Internal spaces for storage of tools and acquired small artefacts. Openings for the extension of tendrils for the purpose of deploying tools, acquiring artefacts, or manipulating environment.
arm-shredder: Motor and blades incorporated to convert elbow-joint into circular saw for carving through resilient objects. observation: Boiler arm-unit interferes with blade rotation. Assessment: [sarcasm]express regret, great sorrow[/sarcasm].

If we wanted a very defensive powersuit we could make something shaped more like a pill bug. The shell would be easy to put heavy armor plating on. While in ball form (more like a boulder form really) the Volviti's vines could help push it along, or we could put treads on the outside for gyro-stabilized pilot comfort.

Hybridisation has definitely been a success thus far.

Prototyping of power suit systems will now be conducted in the manufacturing bay.

There is significant debate about allocation of subsystem control between pilots. This subject will be shelved for the moment and revisited during pilot integration as it appears practical trials will deliver the most reliable results. As a quick summary, handover of control when the Ignole pilot switches forms and the power suit retaining most of its functionality with a single pilot are the primary concerns.

>Special attention is needed for the Varia systems which will maintain not one, but two constant environments within the suit.
Wide range environmental shielding is an extremely complex technology. Maintaining some isolation between Volviti and Ignole environmental subsystems is possible but at this point full tolerance is not possible.

To proceed under localised conditions of extreme heat, radiation or electrical interference, one pilot can eject to allow the mission to be completed by the pilot with higher tolerance.

>We could send waste heat from the generator to the Ignole's compartment, too. Nice and toasty. Heck, we could apply heating coils directly to the Ignole while it's in the pilot seat, to convert some of the generator's output to heat when needed.
Interconnections to redirect heat into the Ignole will be made available.

>We should also find a place to mount a gimballed gun of some sort, capable of tracking fast moving targets with a wide field of fire independent of suit movement. On a traditional vehicle this would be labelled a turret. I recommend a shoulder mount, but the hard-point location can be decided later.
Such additional weapon systems would take excellent advantage of having two pilots.

>Perhaps instead of/in addition to shoulder mounts, a second set of arms be built into the suit to allow the Ignole to handle targeting while the Volviti is moving. The primary arms could specialise in climbing, deflection and the application of blunt instruments.
This requires additional coordination between pilots but will be introduced as an option for consideration.

>Ports on the arms, back and legs allow the Volviti to extend its enhanced manipulators outside of the suit for... whatever reasons you might want a second pair of hands. System infiltration, power absorption, corpse disposal, that sort of thing.
This is possible however doing so and still providing environmental protection to the extruded limbs is considerably more difficult.

>Have you lot considered the necessary modifications to Project Garden's power armor for Project Boiler's Pseudo-Morph-Ball abilities? I understand Garden's body is much larger, but as it has no bones, can you figure some way to compress it without killing it?
The armour will be far too bulky to traverse such possible alternative routes. They will have to be explored by the Ignole pilot in her low temperature mode.

>We need to ensure that the Ignole shrinking into her secondary form will not cause any problems.
>The Ignole should of course have the ability to exit the suit when the smaller form is needed (or when the suit is too bulky and she needs to advance in her predator form). The Volviti should be able to pilot the suit even when the Ignole isn't in it.
The current schema for a smaller power suit will have the Volviti tightly integrated with the suit frame and a quick-release system for the Ignole pilot. This is easily addressed in plans for a larger suit as it is more piloted than worn.

>Okay, so, we clearly need a powerful generator to power the Volviti's energy requirements and abilities. It's growing bigger than normal which means we're going to need an even better generator than before. Maybe two generators, for redundancy?
An outsize generator is a vulnerable point but is likely to make up for this with the additional firepower and shielding the power suit can be equipped with.

Understood. Weight saving should be possible by using the Volviti clone as shielding material.

>Jumping might be okay since both pilots will be assisting it.
Analysing. The Volviti's repulsion jump should be usable in mid air, giving additional aerial mobility. The cycle time it has means chaining of such jumps won't be practical.

>Why did this not occur to me? An actual glider mode enhanced by Volviti magnetic gliding.
Given the bulk and weight of the combined power armour and the Volviti clone's unusual size, power to mass ratios are extremely skewed against it. Gliding will not be very effective outside of using magnetic repulsion to slow a fall.

>We could easily design a taser into the suit. Also, laser/energy beam weaponry. A flamethrower or heat ray, to serve as a double purpose system- to warm the environment and to damage enemies.
Electrically based weapon would have high compatibility with the volviti tailored subsystems. If the intention is to heat the Ignole clone while out of the power suit, the heat ray would be more advisable than a flamethrower.

>Some kind of melee weapon, perhaps... mole claws? For digging into the environment and tearing into enemies. The Ignole would certainly take well to claws.
The Ignole clone possesses high temperature claws that have been further enhanced. Some sort of pass-through could be made with heat conductive material.

>Where is the Volviti's railgun? The power armor should include a structure to boost the railgun's effectiveness and provide ammo for it. Specialised railgun slugs, perhaps?
The railgun is actually fired by using two electrically stiffened vines as rails and the Volviti rearranging its internal organs to use a seed pod as a magazine for the firing chamber. Normally unfertilised seeds are used, however the railgun is also used to implant seeds into carcasses.

The railgun will be usable without needing to breach the suit's interior environment by providing an exterior ammunition source and enclosing the vines in material which does not impede the high voltage discharge.

>Similarly, there should be some structure at the Ignole's mouth to allow her to use her heat breath without exiting the suit. Though if she uses it without some source of heat to keep her warm she'll wind up needing to exit the suit anyway due to the form change.
Design of a suitable interconnection will be complex but may be doable.

>Do we have data on magnetic grapple technology? That seems like it would synergise well with Greenhouse as part of it's armour.
A grapple system should be easily integrated with suit design given the approach selected.

>As for the armour, first and foremost we will require systems to assure that our paired pilots will not damage each other, either with poorly understood metroid feeding mechanisms or temperature extremes.
Only two of the Volviti's tendrils have been modified to attempt to mimic a Metroid's feeding mechanism. Perhaps they should be further modified to be colour coded?

>Whats our projected scale for compact Ignole, expanded Ignole and giant Volviti? We should exchange notes with Boiler, they may not be aware of how great we are at cloning.
Current dimensions of Volviti clone are slightly larger than the projected large Ignole form, approximately double that of averaged Volviti-

>Our job is to design a kick-ass monster rather than to design containment systems, so I'm categorising this as HUGE SUCCESS!
This is only an acceptable outcome if the end product is suitable for use as a bounty hunter, Garden Team.

>Shit I hope this is normal! I mean, what if when a Volviti reaches maturity it lets loose an electric burst, and that's what caused the explosion?
This is not normal.

>Well hey, turns out the cloning was predictably awesome and those dangers we were worried about came true. We can assign blame to the innocent and reward non-participants later, lets get our mindless killing machine contained. Evacuate the area and cut power to the room. This thing feeds on electricity and personnel. We need a better assessment of what happened before we can formulate a full response. Is subject Garden mobile?
Power shut off to all non-essential systems. Lab technicians falling back to muster point. No casualties reported after initial explosion. Project Garden does not appear to be mobile.

>Load the cryo beams! Assume Metroid containment procedure, as in, freeze the thing and put it back in a stronger tube.
First response damage control team has entered the bio-research laboratory. Locking the doors until everyone dies.

Or until alert is cancelled.

Electrical fires contained. Visual inspection indicates the origin point of the explosion was internal to the Volviti clone. Overpressure from the explosion destroyed tank integrity. Damage control team has attempted physical stimulation to specimen with a reach extension device. Project Garden is inert.

>An explosion? Did boiler team forget to install a relief valve on their high pressure clone tank?
No. However, fire fighting efforts were hampered by a technician incorrectly connecting a line to a high pressure fluid conduit supplying Project Boiler's tank instead of fire main. Ignole specimen is expected to make a full recovery.

>Hey, so, Project Boiler here, we're sending some of our Test Subjects down with rocket launchers. Presumably if we vent its cranial casing it'll be less mobile.
Alert cancelled. Coercive containment measures are not required.

Preliminary hypothesis for the cause of the explosion is an electrical short in the Volviti hybrid's capacitor stack. This short degraded surrounding tissue, releasing stored energy in a catastrophic chain reaction.

The Volviti clone has suffered major internal organ damage. It requires immediate medical intervention to survive. It is estimated less than 20% of the Volviti's capacitor stack is recoverable. Many organs and parts of the woody skeletal frame have been damaged or completely destroyed. Extensive repair work with cybernetics and whatever cloned parts can be successfully cultivated and implanted without rejection will be necessary. However, time was already allocated for major surgical procedures to complete installation of subsystems so the time impact is not severe.

Nonetheless, due to the extent of the clone's injuries, it may be advisable to terminate the current clone and make a fresh start. Metroid hybridisation has allowed fast growth but a complete restart with a new clone will incur significant time penalties even if a smaller clone is acceptable. This will allow less time for power armour development, brain transplantation and rehabilitation.

Perform triage or refresh, Garden Team?

Ah, now I´m sad and disappointed. Kinda expected to see it up and running and trying to devour us. I mean, isn´t that what every ma.. I mean special scientist wants. being eaten by it´s own affront against nature.

Cause is probably the enhanced capacitors and the Metroid gene. Simply caused an overcharge in them, resulting in a shorted circuit which then exploded the capacitors. Damn, should have accounted for the hightened speed of the charging process.

>If we clone a new stack of the same type, we can install reinforcement measures to prevent similar events from happening
Maybe a compartmentalized design? Split the capstack into segments for flexibility, reinforce the sides facing toward other organs, but leave a relatively weak face to channel the blast in a safe direction. Some sort of ablative padding inside the suit around that part, of course.
>>
No. 818613 ID: be0718

Triage. What an excellent opportunity to add even more augmentations to the clone!
Replace the capacitor stack with an artificial, detachable variant and manufacture reserves. In case of accidental or intentional overload, the Volviti can eject the capacitor stacks with its railgun. As it has just so helpfully demonstrated, the difference between a capacitor and a bomb is the controlled release of energy.

Once the source of the explosion has been verified and countermeasures put in place, I want to up the Volviti's exposure to electromagnetic radiation again in order to promote natural regeneration. Apply dye to the augmented limbs as they regrow/repair. A light yellow should fit with the clone's existing color scheme.

Also, regarding the increased environmental vulnerability for limbs extruded from ports, that is not an issue as long as they are protected when the ports are closed, and the rest of the organism is protected either way.

Well that could be the case if Volviti have no instinct to stop eating once they're full but that doesn't make any sense, evolution-wise. >eject the capacitor stacks with its railgun
Not an electrical engineer, admittedly, but I'm about 85% sure anything like that would result in the capacitors detonating inside the barrel, since a railgun which is functioning correctly is essentially a capacitor which explodes in a precisely controlled manner. Contrasted with a coilgun, which is an inductor that explodes in a precisely controlled manner.

>Triage. We're on the clock and most of the destroyed/damaged organs can (hopefully) be replaced with cybernetics.
Understood. Structural repair to Volviti clone's internal organs and skeletal structure will be performed using cybernetic prostheses.

>Ugh... so, engorging the capacitor stack was a mistake? Or did the Metroid hybridisation screw it up? Or was it simply the fact that it got too big?
Sample dissection has determined that the cause of the explosion was growth defects in the capacitor stack. A low rate of growth defects is normal for Volviti and does not usually cause health problems until late in life. However the Volviti hybrid's defect rate is anomalously high and the capacitor stack was 981% of the volume of an average Volviti specimen.

Internal shorts caused by a cluster of growth defects combined with over-charging caused damage to the internal structure of the capacitor stack followed by explosion. The high defect rate is speculated to be related to Metroid chimerism - genetic splicing of capacitor-stack with Metroid nuclei has not been expressed evenly from cell to cell.

>Apply dye to the augmented limbs as they regrow/repair. A light yellow should fit with the clone's existing colour scheme.
Understood. Modifying energy draining limbs.

With 20% or so of the capacitor stack recoverable as it is, that's still roughly double the size of those from an unmodified specimen. Even after taking account for the 56% size increase overall of the volviti body, it's still an abnormally large capacitor stack. So not all is lost there.
Just to stay on the safe side, sensors should be placed on the stack to monitor the charge level. This can be linked to the suit to control the integrated power generator based on the body's needs.

Do Volviti have males and females? I would assume they all have that seed rail gun organ, which means they all produce seeds. Being plants, and assuming they use some form of sexual reproduction like most higher life forms do since it's an evolutionary accelerator, it's likely that they're all both male and female.

I'll add my vote for A, to hopefully save on rehabilitation costs and because I suspect a medic will be useful, in addition to the usefulness of xenology knowledge when traveling and bounty hunting.

Observation: Project boiler requests medical and social support due to Boiler's sub-sufficiency.
Speculation: Garden requires technical and analytical properties in order to be self-sufficient upon Boiler's failure.
speculation: Most circumstances requiring medical skills are either sufficiently low-urgency to permit research and out-sourcing, or occur in scenarios sufficiently urgent that the only viable operative has more important things to be doing, such as neutralising encroaching hostiles.

>Requesting D. Logistical ability required to produce and operate still combined with analytical inclination suited to isolation of mission.
>Least subversive of misdemeanours.
>Electronic experiences attuned to costume and Volviti operation.
>lul. Mandatory selection of female candidate. lul lul lul.
>Law experience suggests willingness to read costume and Volviti instructions prior to experimentation.
>Alternatives unsuitable: Alien and bird fetishist with predilection towards manipulating their superiors or unstable and guilty of expenditure of Metroids towards unscientific ends.
Some of this reasoning is extremely tenuous, Garden Team.

>Subject D. if we ever get into a situation that requires hacking, this'll pay off.
Given that the Volviti clone has an integrated multi-tool and data probe, this is logical. Subject D will be the brain donor for Project Garden.

Correct. They are hermaphrodites. They reproduce by collecting another Volviti's pollen and fertilising their seeds with it.

:met_subject_d: : "I am honoured to be selected for this prestigious project Science Team, but I have a pre-existing medical condition. I'm sure there's far more suitable candidates than me, especially in light of the useful and varied services I can provide to you in my current position!!"

Deniable attempts at bribery and applying for exception on medical grounds. Definitely a resourceful Pirate Trooper. However Subject D's chronic and - on closer inspection - possibly fabricated case of the bloops is completely irrelevant when only the brain is needed for the project.

However this is second instance of early delivery of a test subject. Crowding in the barracks must be worse than anticipated. Diverting Subject D to the obstacle course in the shuttle bay. The Project Boiler candidate is already down here and a baseline for this trooper's performance before brain transplantation would be useful.

This concludes Project Garden. The transplant will be conducted as part of Project Glasshouse.

I don't think an audit would affirm your case of the bloops, miss. Now, let the jumping through hoops commence!
