Somewhere in the Hells, two figures speak.

>"So, you saved him?"

>"I had to. We can't have the Hellkin dying so easily, can we? Not when our goal is so close."

>"I suppose. But we cannot allow him to grow weak."

>"This is true, my lord. I will make sure things go the way we had planned..."

>"Very well. He is unaware?"

>"Of course."

"Welcome, traveler of the planes." says the man, setting aside the guitar gently. "This is the land of the dead. There are two paths through it, just as there are two sides to the coin of existence. You may either take Memory, or Oblivion. Both have their own dangers, and I can warn you of neither."

"Enjoy your stay, and remember: Not even death can save you from us!"

It's a bad idea to eat other demons, on the principle that a few have very strong regeneration. Same goes with eating their special bits: All sorts of surprises, all of them nasty. I put the case in my Bag, and get moving.

Oh, that?

When a demon becomes too old, worn from battle, or simply bored with his lot, his body and soul (same thing) condense into a jewel. Depending on the strength of will, his title, and other factors, the size and shape of the jewel can change. The process happens about two hours after 'death'.

It's customary to leave them where they lie, and let the Undead handle the remains.

For some perspective, the largest Demon Soul is about the size of one of those trees. It's what converts lost souls like you guys into full on Demons.

They're also a potent reagent in mortal spells as well, and allow the demon to possess bodies. However, human bodies don't last more than ten minutes down here... Something about oxygen? So that last guy was probably just an illusory ward.

Eh, not really. The tranformation process is very... delicate. What you're suggesting is somewhat like rubbing sperm all over a woman and expecting a child. You might be able to bend a lost Soul into a body from one Soulstone, but it would be weak and nigh-worthless. You'd need the stone of the First Fallen to make proper demons.

At any rate, I carve the strange message into the gravestones and move on.

Well...

Killing, working, all actions in hell do the same thing: Confer titles. They are very important to a demon, as much a part of our power as a human being's bones.

So, pragmatically speaking, is there any way for you to derive energy from these jewels? To feed off the power of the demon within?

>So, pragmatically speaking, is there any way for you to derive energy from these jewels? To feed off the power of the demon within?

It's taboo for a reason: It's like powering magic with souls, a VERY dangerous practice, even if you know how to use magic. The process...

(Harumda pauses to gather the proper wording in his head)

Is... inim... imini... inimical to life itself and reality as well. Something about deadly Outsiders and tears in the fabric of creation?

Anyway. Demon magic uses human souls (or, rather, The Lost Souls) and Human Magic uses Demon Souls, these gems.

A mass grave. Warriors love war, love fighting, love killing, and love conquering. I lead them all, taking this side, then recovering that side, raiding, defending... there must be millions of deaths here. Possibly trillions. It's like glimmering, whispering sand.

....Hm.

This veritable sea of warring souls, what happens when one of those souls loses? Basically, I am wondering if, once rendered into jewel form, is it possible for the mind, the sapience of a demon to be lost, for any reason.

The more we understand about a demon's life cycle and biology (or lack thereof), the more we can advise you.

A jewel'd demon cannot interact with the world of the living, for the most part. Demons can't posses other demons. since we are literally made from soulstuff. If the attempt was made, you'd end up with some horrific, insane combination of the two.

Notably, these 'Chimeras' are the main elite of the Unholy's fighting force. The Undead despise them for such acts.

Jewels last forever. The eldest one is roughly twenty trillion years old. Jewels never age on the inside, either. Were you to use the eldest to posses a human, it would be as if mere seconds passed.

Fucking finally. Ugh, it felt like it took weeks.

UPGRADE ACHEIVED!

Remember, these are your options:
Upgrade a normal ability. These are in blue.

Upgrade a Lord ability to usefulness. These are grey. Upon unlock, they will be usuable once in a long while. More points spent in a Lord power allow it to grow in power, and be usable more and more often.

Last, you can upgrade Swordmastery. This grants you greater skill with magical blades, unlocking higher and higher tiers of power with them. The current level of this is 2/5. Up next is blade statcard. Remember, Swordmaster applies to all blades!
