ask him if he knows why he's in there, or if he remembers anything

say you have an idea for that and then go and check the other cells.

Tell the boy our name and tell him that there is a switch nearby that will probably open his cell.

Then go hit that switch, fortune favors the bold and so forth.

You start to answer to his question "My name is Lily, and, from what I can see, there is a switch at the end of this hallway that should open the doors of the cells-" The boy interrupts you . "Wait, you mean even the one with the tentacle? Are you out of your mind?! That thing is gonna kill us as soon as it's set free!"

i am fairly certain she wont. not sure about all the other cells though.

Her name is Rose and after talking to her we are certain she wont harm us.

But yeah might be a good idea to continue down the passageway and see what else awaits us before flipping the switch.

I'm sure she won't kill us... that is our girl and the scarf... I don't know about the boy...
How about talking to her (tentacle girl) first, asking whether she knows him, would like to not kill him or would like to not kill anything unless threatened as well?
Even without tentacles... the boy is also in a cell like the girl, so hidden powers to be aware of... I would recommend asking if he would like to not slaughter everything that doesn't move like he wants as well...

Forget about the tentacle for now. Ask the boy if he wants to ss.

You try to calm the boy down. "I-I've talked to the girl in the other cell already, she is not aggressive, she isn't able to move on her own anyway." As you say that he seems to calm down.

"What other cells? are there more?"
L:"C-calm down, I can't see behind this wall, I'm just going to see if anything's hiding there"
N:"Oh, OK- be careful then, I don't want to get stuck in here because you got yourself killed."

Before you go opening any doors, make sure everybody[Rose] knows that killing your friends is in fact, bad. This is important. Like... ask what games Rose likes to play with her friends.

Ah, well. You have some choices here. You could try indirect and say "What sort of games do you usually like to play?" and listen for key words like "break" or "poke them with my thorns so they make funny noises". If she says anything like that, suggest a board game I guess.

You could also go with direct and to the point "You know killing friends is not good, right?" If she does not know what killing is, you may want to tell her. If she thinks that is a terrible thing to ask her, explain that you were not sure if anyone told her that before.

I would suggest both approaches, in that order, actually. Something like "Have a favorite game, kid?" "Yeah, I like (something said with childlike innocence)." "Okay, maybe we can do that after we get you out. By the way, you know killing your friends is not good, right?"

ask her if she likes the light or if she is afraid of it. if she isn't bother by the light shine her with the electric tourch we have but never seem to use. See if we can't see anything new with some light. also at some point we should probably get the cat kid something that will let him talk to us as well, at the very least to make him not feel that he's all alone

nobody seems to be in any real danger except you. ask rose to describe one of her games

yes. basically pull it with your back to it if thats possible

I think that just gives us more reason to open the cages then so we have some backup when we have to go down there... also you still have the electric torch with you right? maybe shine it down the darkened hallway to make sure nothing mean and nasty jumps out at us as we go to pull the switch (remember to us the scarf to pull it)
