[Crone] The shadow man... He's what most travellers call a boogeyman, or a myth. But before i tell you where he is, i need to tell you why he is.
--------------------------------------------
A long time ago, here on the planet yokoko, there was water everywhere. The planet had many assortment of plants and animals, and there were many peoples that had colonized, civilized, and albeit existed. One day a group of Grey Mage businessmen came to the planet and offered there wares to the local peoples. Sadly the businessmen did not take any of our currency, instead they would take the yokoko peoples as barter material. At this time there was a sort of hierarchy system in place and the slaves and peasants were sold for these alien trinkets. But eventually both slaves and peasants started to dwindle. The businessmen had camps here which they took all the owned property, and year after year they would get raided in order to take the slaves back- but only to resell them again. From paranoid tellings, though, we believed that the Grey Mage people became angry. We were not aware that they were slowly making the planet hotter, and even hotter til all the water started to dry up. By the time the weaker of the Yokoko people died from the heat they were beginning to refuse the alien devices... but it was still all too late, for it became hotter still. The last remaining peoples either left our planet using the arks the aliens sold or joined the soldiers that gathered for an uprising against the businessman. This cave behind me was the homebase of eight specialized goblin soldiers, all of which were well blessed shaman. On the night before they were to join the main army, they raised a scarecrow in that cave and prayed to the spirit of shadows to take their request. They made their offereings and while they were in their ritual one of the Grey Mage metal golems slaughtered all of them. The history of the "shadow man" comes from that very scarecrow drinking up the dead mens blood, gaining flesh from the darkness of the cave, and with the offerings he accepted proceeded to help the yokoko people evict the Grey Mage people off of the planet. It is said that if you make an offering to the shadow man he will do a single task, a task which can even shake the impossible.
----------------------------------------------
[Crone] But he is mostly paid to kill or asassinate. I had to scare off all the other goblins so as to prevent him from being sold off as a murder weapon.
[Quint] Is that why you didn't leave town? Just to hide some sort of murder weapon?
[Crone] He is not a murder weapon, he's a... he's a genie of some sort. He can get you anything or preform any task he is capable of- he only asks for something of equal value, whether it's of personal value or monetary value.
[Quint] Is he in the cave then?
[Crone] Yes he is, and if you're here to make him a murder weapon i'll be dead before then.
[Abel] What's the big deal, why not sell him as a magical genie, i'm sure he'd be worth alot.
[Crone] You don't get it, neither of you do. He's... I had a sister who was taken during the Yokoko war. I was desperate and had no faith in the other goblins to rescue her, i beseeched the shadow man and he saved her.
[Quint] hmmm, anyway- what about any other city or towns. Do you know of any with people in them?
[Crone] I do... the closest one is four days travel. Mind you this is a goblins trek, and it's through a desolate wasteland that has no water or food.
