Hey guys, how are you all doing today/tonight? This is my first thread in any imageboard, so if I make some mistakes or seem ignorant in certain areas, please forgive me. I am also somewhat busy with other tasks, so please be patient if I don't update every half hour. I'm kinda nervous about this and I really hope I can make it all the way through, but I hope you all enjoy Rina Quest and its universe!

Cold. The chill around Rina's entire body seeps through her somewhat thick fur all the way down to her flesh. She has no recollection of past events, and her vision is foggy. She can hardly see any more than a radius of a few feet around her. She is hanging upside down by her legs and a large oak tree is next to her. She tries desperately to remember how in the hell she ended up like this, but nothing is coming to her. Her head starts to pound and her body shivers, warming ever so gradually to the coldness around her. It seems uncomfortably still, but Rina guesses that she's in a woodland of some sort.

Well that's no good. Alright, got quite a few questions here, but first things first; see how you're attached to the tree limb at the moment, and whether you're too high off the ground to fall without hurting yourself. We'll see about your amnesia and that blood-stain-looking thing when you're not hanging from a tree.

Rina just realizes how fatigued she feels. She has a hard time lifting herself up, even a little bit!

> see how you're attached to the tree limb at the moment

Luckily, Rina has enough strength to lift her head up a little bit. Her vision is starting to recover, but very slowly. She looks up at her feet. One leg is upright, but the other is bent and hanging onto a branch. Some sort of twisted fabric is holding you in place. It looks very sturdy and almost like the work of somebody pulling some prank on her.

Rina looks downward and is able to see the ground. She looks like she at a fairly good height in which if she were to fall, she would most like break or bruise something unless she could land on her feet, and she's not exactly a skilled gymnast.

Rina can see the base of the tree. Someone is slumped against it. She can't tell from here if he/she's alive. There's some items nearby the person. They are positioned in a way that it looks like they may have fallen from her pocket or something.

The fabric is wrapped tightly around both Rina's legs. She cannot move them!

Rina looks over to her right and notices another tree branch is close by her. To her relief her backpack is hanging onto the branch, just out of her reach. Wait...her backpack? How did she know it was hers right then? Is her memory returning to her?

Yeah I think I know what happened here. Fucking prank misfires. You've got a concussion so any trauma to your head could cause brain bleeding. Your best chance is to curl up to where the branch holding you is, and hoist yourself so your head is above your body, then you can't do much besides wait for help. Very well. Pull yourself up to the branch you are hanging from then use the switchblade to cut your leg free. Do not attempt to drink the energy drink until you are upright. Afterwards, you may be able to use the cap to make a loud "clicking" noise which should carry a decent distance.

hey, word from the old and wise, you did good. There's nothing to fear about on this board except the IRC, which can and often will lead to drama. Next time you get back on, create a thread on quest-dis and put a link to it when you start a new chapter. Discussion threads are where all the out-of-character discussion and questions to the author go.
On another note by managing to pump out 10 quality images with believable personality in the span of two hours, you have already placed yourself in the top bunch of quest artists on this board. As long as your story pans out well and you don't panic over unexpected player choices, you'll get a strong participation and following in no time, as long as people fin your quest while you are here.
And one more thing: tgchan is SLOW, as it can take days or weeks for some well liked quests to update, and so the posters also only visit on an uncommon basis. Do yourself a favor and put a little more space between each quest update so that more people have a chance to get on, see the quest, read up, decide they like it and participate.
And one MORE thing: you can get some attention by posting stuff in the fanart threads or joining in on the random paint-chat scribble sessions. Don't be shy about drawing what your mother might call pornography, as far as we're concerned it's not pornographic unless it was drawn with an intent to be masturbated to. Otherwise, it's best to always add lots of personality and odd angles to those risque scenes to add 'cover' and distract from the tits n' ass. You can also start a thread on the /draw/ board, which has absolutely no restrictions on what you post, provided you don't post your own material in other people's draw threads unless it's some sort of fan-art, which should go in the fan-art threads. The draw-thread will also work wonders as an online back-up archive since the upload limit is insanely huge on this board.
ONE LAST THING: ALWAYS LET US KNOW IF YOU ARE GOING ON HIATUS, LEAVING FOREVER, OR JUST ON VACATION. Nothing kills a quest faster than a quest that never updates, and nothing makes a author more disliked than to dissapear without explanation. And feel free to take part in other quests and discussion threads, it will help you get a feel for the community, and as to what is and what is not considered good quest practice, much of which I've already covered.
DAMMIT ONE LAST THING I FORGOT: Unlike our original home on the 4cahn imageboard, we are not anonymous here, exactly. All posters have a unique ID number assigned to their IP address, which you can see next to the post number or above the filename of a post. Use these to watch out for one or two individual posters attempting to trick you with false votes towards one action or another. This is called 'samefagging' a coarse term that came with us when we migrated, and it is considered an abominable thing to do with the intention of deception or annoyance, otherwise it's cool for any other purposes, like multiple posts of information, or when adding on to a sugestion you made in a quest to clarify something you forgot to add, things like that.
Otherwise, enjoy your stay, try not to get creeped out, and avoid over thinking things or volunteering information about your IRL self as much as possible; this ain't livejournal, and we like to keep it that way.
Fucking hell forgot something even more basic and important: read the FAQ linked onthe front page for how to use the site. We also have an archiver for every quest thread, completed ones get put in the Archive, incompleted ones eventualy get dumped into the Graveyard, and all of them and their authors are listed on the tgchan wiki, which is also linked on the front page. I urge you to check these out and learn our history of storytelling for your own enjoyment and inspiration for improvement. That should be everything.

If you don't mind wasting the energy drink, you can extend your reach with the knife by cutting a small opening in the bottle top, draining out the liquid, then jamming the handle of the knife in the hole. (This is somewhat risky, so you probably want to try using the knife normally first.)

Also, what is that handing above where the bag used to be? Is that part of the same fabric that has caught your leg?

Indeed it is the same fabric. The thing is everywhere! Rina is not really sure what exactly it used to be.

Rina decides to save the drink for later when she gets down from the tree. It would probably be a lot more refreshing if she was not hanging upside down any longer.

Rina is starting to feel her strength come back to her. She is able to curve her body upward just far enough to grab hold of her pants and reach the switchblade over to the fabric tying her up.

Right now Rina has nothing on her that could serve as such except for her clothes, except it's so cold out she's not sure she wants to do such a thing.

Rina removes the branch, shouting in pure agony. As she expected, the wound starts to bleed profusely. Rina quickly and efficiently (regardless of her shaky hands) uses up all the gauze in the kit, soaking them with the disinfecting alcohol. The stinging pain was nothing short of torturous. She then uses the shirt and wraps it around her wounds, not too tight, but tight enough to hopefully keep the bleeding at bay. She applies pressure and keeps calm, waiting for what seemed like an hour almost. The bleeding has not necessarily stopped, but it definitely has been lowered.

Rina thinks she can hear weird noises in the distance that sound a bit like soft chuckling and whispers. She is not sure what caused the person's death, but something tells her whatever did it is not too far away.

There are two items Rina hasn't picked up. One is a sort of weird GPS/Walkie-talkie device. As she looks at the device, she thinks she can slightly remember what exactly she was doing in the woods in the first place. Was it a hiking trip? No...that can't be it. Camping? As much as she would love making a crutch or a spear to reach faraway objects, she cannot find anything that would serve as such nearby. She'll have to search around a bit.

> Based on what you brought with you, I'd say you probably hadn't planned on being out here long.
Maybe you live nearby?

As far as Rina can remember, she's pretty sure she lives in the city. She never liked living in a lonely, quiet place like the woods.

> Do you think you might have known that guy? Not that i expect you to be able to recognize him, what with him having no face and all.

There has got to be a reason he's there and in the condition he's in. Just what happened? At first glance, even with his torn face, she really cannot recognize his clothes or hairstyle or anything. He doesn't even have ears or a tail.

Also, Rina has picked up the backpack that has fallen out of her grasp when she fell from the tree. That's four more spaces for the inventory!

If that's got a radio, the absolute first thing you should do is call for help on the emergency channel (usually 5, if you can't recall and the device doesn't tell you). If that fails, try other channels. Check battery life while you're doing this. If you get no response (gosh what a surprise) then see if you can work out the nearest civilization via GPS. Might also be worth retrying the radio from atop a nearby hill, especially if it has line of sight to said civilization.

Look around a bit to see if there's anything else you could have dropped/missed.

User the survival knife to make a walking stick/crutch if you find any branches about.

Check battery level on the GPS. Mark this spot if you can and I guess try to head towards the nearest road.

> Are you thirsty? Maybe you should take some sips of the energy drink.

Good idea! Rina has forgotten how thirsty she was for a moment. She's careful to take a few swigs of the drink (it's cold and refreshing!), making sure to leave some behind for later.

> Can you glean anything from the GPS?

There appears to be nothing displayed on the GPS at the moment.

> So, do you remember driving to the woods?

Rina does not remember how she ended up in the woods in the first place, but she should soon.

> And now that i think of it, you seem to be missing ID and car keys, so maybe someone took some of your stuff?

Rina just notices that she doesn't have a wallet or anything. It's a possibility and she is discouraged at the thought of it.

> Schlick furiously.

As much as she would like to at the moment, now's really not a good time.

The GPS is kinda strange. The radio seems to be built in a way that lets it communicate with other GPSes like it, like a walkie-talkie. She won't be able to get a signal to any emergency lines with this thing. The battery level is half full.

"All these bodies. How...what...?!" Rina's mind is a jumble. All the fogginess seems to be dissipating. She is slowly starting to remember...It was a trip. She was with a group of people. They weren't hiking, or setting up camp. They were looking...looking for something. Caches. Geocaching. Rina starts to remember their faces. Their once bright, excited faces, now replaced with a most horrific and violent fate.

Night swiftly closes in. The once gentle breeze starts to get more intense. Names start to appear in her head. Kevin, Langley, Evan, Tiffany, Veronica, Glade. Glade. GLADE. That name intrigues Rina the most. Glade. Who was she? Think! Think, damnit!

Just say "I know your there you bastard". Even if he is gone by then, there is still no reason not to say it.

The wounds of the corpses have a strange amount of variety to them. Visible wounds include:
-Half the face ripped off
-Face damaged with either a tearing motion or a heavy impact
-Eye either hit by small (bullet-sized) impact or precisely pulled out, throat cut in a thin, neat lone
-Deep gash in back of head
Apparent weapon types used include knife (definite from throat cut), axe (likely from head gash), and possibly claw (likely from torn face). Also noteworthy is how all visible wounds are head wounds, even on corpses where we have seen most or all of the body.

What was that steaming/smoking stuff on the ground near the bodies?
>>
No. 369289 ID: 95e539

Don't lose track of where you just came from. Ghoulish as the task may be, those bodies most likely all have useful equipment on them, and you must retrieve it. This probably includes at least one map to the cache and/or civilization, more of the GPS units, food, water, and things that these unfortunates were going to put into the cache. Judging from how you were packed, it's unlikely that any overnight camping was going to be involved in the trip, so tents or the like will probably not be there. On the upside, this means you aren't terribly far from civilization, either. Gather your wits as best you can, and hang on to them tenaciously once you do. You're going to need them.

Rina falls on her back hard and quickly sits up, brandishing her survival knife and snarling as fiercely as she can.

"Who the hell are you? G-get away from Glade!"

The person/zombie just stands idly, not making a single move. It lacked eyes, but Rina got a creeping feeling that it could still see her as clear as day.

> The zombie appears to have its mouth stitched closed and a symbol drawn on its forehead. That seems like the work of a magic user rather than ghostly/demonic possession.

This was unlike anything Rina has seen. At first glance it doesn't look like it's wearing a mask at all, but the fur from its face has been cleanly torn off. The blood also looks a bit too real.

> That appears to be a bullethole.

The wound on its forehead is indeed shaped strangely. It's almost like it was carved in.

Right now Rina cannot get her focus off of the monstrosity before her.

> That could be a mask. The mouth doesn't look right to be a skeleton...

Indeed that was what Rina was thinking at first. The mouth looks incredibly wide and stitched up and looks way too surreal to actually be a mouth. Maybe the cheeks were sliced open?

> Lure it toward the cliff and perhaps it will have an accident?

Rina's body feels tense and slightly paralyzed. Leaving Glade's side is not what she wants to do at this moment. If she has to attack, she will.

Rina prepares to spout out more questions, but it is evident the creature no longer wishes to talk.

He raises his arms, bellowing a most ungodly shriek. A powerful wind suddenly arises, the vision of the creature becoming exceedingly blurry as the wind grew stronger and stronger. The trees started to bend, being mercilessly battered by the horrible gust. Crackling and groaning noises played all around Rina, chips of wood and bits of leaves flying all over the place.

The wind was becoming too much for Rina to handle. She could barely keep herself balanced. Her backpack suddenly wrest itself away from her, picked up by the wind. Luckily it didn't go very far and got caught against one of the trees.

The wind was getting even stronger.

*CRACK* *CRICK* *GROAN*

The trees were weakening fast, barely hanging on to their roots.

Grab ahold of Glade, if it's not too late. Extra mass will mean you're heavier and less likely to get blown away. Also, more limbs to hold onto something nearby with. Don't worry about the box, an ally is more useful. Keep low to the ground, preferably crawling, so that there's less surface area for the wind to blow against. Less wind resistance = less likely to get blown away.
Meanwhile, Grace can you hear me? Grab ahold of something, now!

This was something Rina couldn't understand either. How did Glade fall off the edge if the wind was blowing away from it??

The wind was gradually beginning to die down. Rina is able to stand again.

As Rina moves over to the edge of the cliff face, a piercing scream echoes through the lower forest before her.

"Oh my God...Glade!!" She was still alive?

The first thing she sees down the cliff face is a line of trees that have bent away from each other to make some sort of path. Some of the trees have been taken off their roots entirely. It's as if the forest itself was alive...Did Rina still have a chance to save her?

Along with the screams, a bone-chilling roar sounds from the distance and the faint sounds of sirens can be heard from the right. Rina gazes to the right to see two sets of red and blue lights flickering across what looks like a winding road. Was someone able to send out a distress signal?!

Rina cautiously approaches the spiritual being. It feels warmer the closer she gets to the creature.

"You've chosen wisely, Rina."

"What do you want from me?" Rina asks coldly.

"We understand your anger. We wish to aid you. As long as the darkness manifests, so will we; however, the darkness has greatly weakened us. We must be known by you in order to help you. Our weakened state will not be of much use to you, but if you accept us, we can turn the tables on the darkness...and weaken THEM. We can aid you by relieving them of such energy. You cannot stand idly though, for you must eventually fight. We will help you be victorious against their dark wills. "Of course. Use us as you will, but take heed that we may not always be able to help you. Our strength quickly drains, and we must rest often."

"I also need an explanation for all this cryptic shit."

Super powers? Rina doesn't feel all too super right now...and she's not sure if she wants to-

Luckily the cliff face has a slight slope to it and with careful footing, Rina manages to reach the bottom safely! A large field separates her from the disturbed forest ahead. Glade's trail is clear as day and she limps ahead. Speaking of that...

> By the way, is your leg still wounded? Be nice if the spirit has done some repairs.

From what you could see when you approached the cabin, were the police cars headed towards it your where you woke up? Something feels a bit off about their presence...

> If you could actually manage to slow down time in a short vicinity or his entire body to allow the police to get here quicker while he remains slow, that would be great. Next up would be getting Glade out of this room.

"Although we understand we give the impression of a god-like unity, we cannot manipulate the space time continuum. All we can do to assist you is corner the darkness and weaken the flesh it controls. We cannot destroy the darkness, but we can distract it."

> Eject the darkness? Wouldn't it be best to leave it trapped within that shell, preventing it from taking over someone else?

"The darkness has the ability to leave a body when it pleases. This is where we come in. We can keep the darkness occupied so that you can strike. When the darkness possessed a body, it, in a sense, becomes the body. If you kill the husk while it is inside, you will be able to completely decimate the darkness's connection with the body, but you will not be able to destroy the darkness itself. That will have to be done another way - another way that we will have to research."

> weaken the head so it loses coordination, make it fight the man for control.

"We can apprehend the darkness while it is inside the body, but we cannot fight over control of the body is possesses. You must first eject it from the body and cut out all remaining ties it has with it. Even if we do eventually control it, there is not much we can do. We cannot save him. Observe as we engage with the darkness."

Rina feels like something just propelled itself out of her head. She becomes light-headed, but is able to focus on the raccoon, who is starting to act very strangely. If, well more like when, the darkness possesses a policeman, then everything is really fucked and we are going to start killing things because they'll have a goddamn gun.

Rina, you ever play Alan Wake, this is almost exactly like it only I don't think normal light works on this, you need spirit light which your buddy here supplies. I really hate the law when shit hits the fan, should they not be possessed, they become a great host of problems to deal with.

Two police cars usually dictate four policeman. So far, we've only seen it possess people one at a time, if it gets one of them, we get three eye witnesses to weird shit and, as far as I'm concerned, enough evidence to not end up as a suspect and the right to steal a cop car and bolt the fuck out with Glade, hopefully with a makeshift sling for her arm and everything. Should they show up with us killing someone with a fucking axe and by chance they don't end up possessed, we're going to be cuffed, Glade exposed to harm, and our options become extremely limited in the back seat of a cop car.

I also don't trust Rina's ability with an axe, especially with that leg. Four or three cops should give the man a quick death, just have spirit guys give him another hit to give them an opening.

Theory time: When we tackled him, we smacked the back of his head against the floor, which stunned him and caused him to cough up black stuff. I think if we do further injury to the initial wound that the darkness uses to enter the body, the darkness is harmed.

The main thing I'm worried about now is that the OTHER darkness-possessed guy is somewhere around here. I suggest barring all but one of the doors that enter this room and finding another weapon, like maybe a big knife. Then you can make sure you can protect Glade.

Rina takes a spare blanket from a nearby drawer beside the couch and covers the raccoon's body with it.

Good idea. Rina carefully lifts Glade and carries her to the bedroom, lying her down on the comfy bed. She pulls up a chair and sits down, pondering on her misfortune. Were there more of those "darkness" things? By killing the raccoon, she was able to prevent him from possessing the poor anthro again. At least he's at peace now. For some reason the "darkness" gave Rina a similar impression to the "spirit" inside her. Did they have to rest like the spirit? Would he come back eventually?

If it's capable of simply "jumping" into bodies, it may be best to avoid third parties until we know we can dispatch it without killing, or prevent it from taking others. This first man was simply a mistake that we shall learn from.
