This will be a mostly text-based Quest with a few pictures here and there, because I can't be arsed to draw two Quests at once.

I just have to get this idea out of my head.

So let's get this party started!

Hi there!
My name is Aislinn Neotis and you wouldn't believe how excited I am!

Oh, right. Uhm... I'm that doofy-looking redhead on the left there, see?
Well guess what, guys?!
I'm on my way to the new space station Solaris! Yes that Solaris! No! Not the one from that book!
But Solaris! I'm so excited I can hardly sit still.

Well I'm in a shuttle right now. It's rather... uncomfortable, all grey in grey and stuff. The only specks of colour are the hair of that woman and the light blue console.

>>ARRIVAL IN TWENTY MINUTES
>>Error in Function: clearStorage("E")

Now that doesn't sound good, but nobody seems overly agitated over that.

Oh right.
I have a pack of chewing gum, my holographic pocket secretary and my wallet. Inside the wallet I have my ID and 20 credits.

Well, you could say I'm quite smart. I excel at physics and maths at school and I know my share of IT as well. My dad taught me how to use a multitool.

Fears? Oh well... I always fear to lose my intellect in an accident... Y'know the kind that leaves your brain crippled. I always have nightmares about that.

I ask the two other people what's happening, but they ignore me. The woman with the glasses concentrates on the brochure she's reading and the guy (I think he's an employee.)... I'm not sure, but I think he scoffed at me there... Now he's jumping up and starting to type on the console. He looks... agitated all of a sudden.

Well they're having an opening... Ya know, first time showing it to the civil population. One of my teachers pulled some strings and here I am! I can't wait!

>What's so special about Solaris?

It was built especially so people could go to space and learn about astronomy and all that. It's almost like an orbital museum.

I do exactly that. I sit down and look at the console. He doesn't seem to like that at all, but obviously can't think of an excuse not to let me do it. The woman with the glasses looks at the two of us, puzzled.

I can't see much, but I think he's trying to figure out a password. Doesn't look like he'll succeed any time soon, however.

I'll just assume it's the latter, for my peace of mind. I'm sure Solaris has good security, so nothing bad could happen, could it?

The shuttle rocks a bit.

The weird man sighs. But it's not really a relieved sigh.

>report him to security!
>Well maybe not report, just ask if he's an employee, and mention using the shuttle's console.

Good idea.
I leave the shuttle and find myself inside a very large room. The docking bay. In front of me there are five doors. Humongous arrows on the ground indicate towards the middle one. It seems there were only five people on the shuttle, total. There's the weird guy and the woman with the glasses. Then there's a guy in very colourful clothes. He seems easygoing and I gotta say, he's quite handsome. The last person beside me is a beautiful woman with long brown hair. I sigh. Wallflower issues all over again.

At the middle door I spot two security officers. As the five of us stride past them through the open door, I approach one of them.

I gesture towards the weird guy and whisper: "He was typing around on a console inside the ship. Is he an employee?"

The guard looks at him and gets out his pocket secretary. The little device emits a green holographic screen and he types around for a few seconds. "Seems legit. Don't worry, miss, we have this under control. Now move on, please."

>> 0:23 Presentation in the Seminar Room will start in five minutes.

A presentation? Right upon arrival? I can't miss that!
Behind the door in front of us there's a long and wide corridor with a door on each side about half the way down. At the end there is another large blast door.

>Head to the seminar. Wouldn't do to be late.

Agreed!
The five of us go down the corridor and the blast door opens in fron of us. We stand in a large hall. There are about a hundred seats here, most of which are occupied by other visitors, who are conversing excitedly and quite loudly. I can sense an atmosphere of... intellect. I'm standing in a room filled to the brim with intelligent and educated people. It feels good, to be part of this and I can't supress a wide grin. Pity not everyone is as stimulated as I am.
The flamboyant guy shoots the big screen on the other side of the room a bored look and heads to the left, where there's a blast door labeled "Lounge". The weird guy goes the same way. A man in a white labcoat approaches the woman with the glasses. They exchange greetings, they probably know each other. Soon they turn to leave through a blast door to the right, labeled "Visitor's Quarters". A small snippet of paper slips from a pocket of the labcoat and lands in front of my feet.

>Take a seat. Were you able to make out any of it? Try and remember.

Well, it was definitely a code, both letters and numbers. But that's all I really remember...

I take a seat and glue my eyes to the screen in the front.

>Also say hello to whoever you sit next to.
I look to my left, since my right is unoccupied. There's a beardy old man sitting next to me. "Hello.", I say. He looks at me for a second and then gazes at the screen again. "Hello", he mutters.

The lights dim and the screen lightens up. A woman in her thirties stands in front of it. her voice reverberates loudly as she speaks.
"Greetings, visitors! Welcome in space!", she greets cheerfully.
"Let's start with a few security measures. First of all, this is a rough map of all of Solaris."
The screen shows a map, divided into green, blue and red rooms.
"Now, the most important thing you need to remember is the following: You may move freely in all of Area Green. Area Blue 1 and Area Blue 2 are for Employees only. Of course, in case you need to go to the infirmary, you can do so, but otherwise, please stay inside Area Green. In the coming week we will show you part of Area Blue so you can get a taste of what it is like to be a modern astronaut. Area Red is strictly off limits. Everything coded red is highly dangerous. This encompasses the Docking bay, it's Storage rooms, the EVA-Hatch-Room and the entirety of the basement floor."

After that the real presentation begins. We are bombarded with facts and numbers, too numerous to remember everything, but my head soaks up as much as possible, like a sponge. Altitude, Pressure, Orbit inclination, Orbital period, Orbital decay.
All this knowledge makes me feel all fuzzy inside.
Then, suddenly, it's over.

"And that concludes our welcoming presentation. Dinner has been prepared by now. So please take the door behind the screen to the dining hall. Bon Appetit! We'll meet up again at 4 o'clock!"

Roaring applause. I clap my hands till they hurt. I'm pumped. I want to know everything. Every little detail! I want to know every screw and every nut in Solaris.
The people are getting up and swarming towards to dining hall.

Before I can enter the dining hall I have to pass through a small room, that seems to connect the two modules. Forno real reason I stop for a moment in there. I look up to the ceiling. Weapon. Got it. I try to regain my footing. My legs still feel like pudding, but I manage to stand and walk awkwardly. What the hell has happened?
The Seminar Room is pretty much empty except for the seats and they are bolted down. I'm pretty sure the shouting came from the Lounge. The door that leads there is wide open.
The little room between Seminar Room and Lounge is drenched in blood. I step over the puddles, desperately trying not to vomit all over the place. The lounge looks terrible. More blood. Someone enters the kitchen and approaches the corpse. I peek around the corner and see... the weird guy from earlier. He seems to have some kind of laser-welder. He searches the guard for loot. His face is tense. He seems to be afraid, just like me.

"Hello! Is somebody there?!"

Someone's shouting from Area Green apparently. It's a female voice. Frightened but loud.

Weird guy flinches, runs a quick last search on the body and returns to the corridor he came from.

Looks like I successfully avoided being found for now...

I sigh quietly. This is far from over, am I right?

Quite a few. It depends on what you really count. There were the stations from the Salyut program, Skylab, Mir, ISS, Genesis I and II, Project 921-2, Sundancer and of course Ares and Aphrodite-28.

I am allowed to go to the visitors' quarters Otherwise I wouldn't've been able to sleep. I follow her. I end up in another corridor that leads left. On the right side of the corridor there are three doors that lead to the three Corridors that connect with the rooms we were supposed to sleep in. On the far end there's anotehr door that says: 'Employees only'
According to the map it leads to Area Blue 2.

The woman is standing in the middle of the corridor. "Hello?! Anyone there?!"
Hey, it's that woman with the glasses from the shuttle. What are the odds?

"What happened anyway? I was locked in the corridor between the Seminar Room and the Dining Hall."

She grimaces and buries her face in her hands. Her voice is trembling.
"A... A terrible accident. The docking stations opened for some reason... I don'T know, why but almost all the safety doors inside Solaris opened as well... We... We were flung through the corridors like ragdolls! And now they're all gone..."

I can tell she's crying. I also notice how she's reclining against the wall all the time. Upon further inspection her left leg doesn't look too good.

She's heavy, but then again, I'm not very strong...
"Yes, that should work. We should probably head to the infirmary, no?"

"Yes, maybe." She is obviously in very much pain. "What's you name, by the way?"

"Aislinn Neotis, Ma'am.", I answer.

We're slow, but we make it to the door that reads "employees only". It opens nevertheless (as expected since it's a blue area) and we walk through. We're in another corridor now. Right ahead there is an open door to a dimly lit room, that seems filled with shelves. Right in front of that door the corridor turns left and I think I can hear something from there. We move towards the turn. Right before it, I put my finger to my lips to indicate her that she needs to be quiet for a second and then look around the corner. The corridor seems clear, so far.

One to the EVA-hatch, one to the infirmary, one to the changing room, one to the kitchen and one to the escape pods and Area Blue 1. The last door, I can see there... That should buy us some time. I hit the switch. "Run!", I shout and we start hustling down the corridor. Dr. Otwin groans. She must be in real pain.We dash into the infirmary and I shut the door from the inside. All my muscles are hurting. I've always hateed running and this time I had to support an older woman, too. I've seriously not missed the burning pain in my lungs.
I hear that noise again. It's distinctly human now, but muted. I look up. Oh right. I forgot that this infirmary doubled as a prison. The cells are made of transparent plastic and look quite airtight. In one of the cells there's a frightened-looking man and he's shouting. I don't understand a word. Dr. Otwin looks at me. Shrug, and mention it was just some weird guy from the shuttle to Solaris. Given how oddly he was acting, it is not impossible that he may have some idea what is happening. Or even directly involved.

Have Dr. Otwin lie down and rest, check out the guy stuck in a cell. Try and calm him down via intercom. If he has a medical chart, look it over before releasing him. Just in case.

>Have Dr. Otwin lie down and rest, check out the guy stuck in a cell. Try and calm him down via intercom. If he has a medical chart, look it over before releasing him. Just in case.

"Maybe. But that isn'T important right now. You should rest a bit."

"Well I have been sleeping for a bit before... Can you handle this by yourself?"
She points to the prisoner.

"I think so. Don't worry, Doctor."

She hobbles to one of the two beds and lies down. It is obvious that her leg is causing tremendous pain.
I approach the cell. There is no medical chart here. But there is an intercom. I push the button.

Iuse my calmest voice... which isn't very calm, really. I notice I'm trembling.

The best thing to do is attempt to flex your torso muscles all at once and then release them a few times- this will give you back control of your core area faster. Well I have only two broken fingers, but those are very, very severely broken. and the rest of the hand is very sore as well.
It looks like they're going to climb down the elevator shaft. Do you think, I should sit this one out? Then again... Dr. Otwin's leg isn't all that crisp either.

I suggest we go look in the other infirmary for some morphine and correct our fingers when we're high on two different painkillers. Unless Morphine conflicts with Ibuprofen or whatever. Notify the others of your intentions, the guy shouldn't be up here unless he had some help.

I know getting high on painkillers sounds a little bit scary and it did the second king of music in, but he was 50 and didn't have broken fingers to correct... Too soon, guys?

Well it's not just two breaks. It's just two fingers but they're nearly pulverized from the looks of it. But climbing with this does sound stupid and unpleasant.

>I suggest we go look in the other infirmary for some morphine and correct our fingers when we're high on two different painkillers. Unless Morphine conflicts with Ibuprofen or whatever. Notify the others of your intentions, the guy shouldn't be up here unless he had some help.

Uh...

OKOK! Geeze!

Too soon? Who died?

>Trying to climb down an elevator shaft on morphine: BAD.

That sounds reasonable.

>Heh, sorry about that then. I'm not exactly knowledgeable when it gets to medicine, even if its common knowledge. At least I acknowledge Jaskson died from it.

Who's Jackson?

>Well, lets go look for splints in the other infirmary then or whatever in case your gain the courage to fix your fingers. We can't do shit with the elevator.

Yes, that seems like as good a course of action as any. The elevator shaft is blocked for me, for now.
I shrug. "I don't think I should go climbing with this injury. I'll go to the other infirmary to maybe try and get my fingers fixed." I notice that the painkillers have finally started to kick in. The pain in only a dull shadow of its former self. "Be careful", Declan says. "Yes, we are sure, that madman is down there, but still, we can't know what you might encounter up here." I can't think of anything else to say, so I just turn around. I have to take the long route to the infirmary, since the elevator is blocked. So I make my way through the Staff's Quarters.

>Actually, I asked Mum about it. She said, basically, if you're in a high-tensity situation, Morphine in general is a bad idea, because it screws up your sight and motor abilities.

Good to know.

>Oh please, everyone knows that's not true. Drugs are your friend, they give you a little boost to keep you going, allowing you to function completely normal even when mortally wounded.

... I AM going insane, am I not?

Anyway, I finally reach the break room. I noticed that the Staff'S Quarters were rather... clean. There was no blood there. The breakroom has five doors and plenty of blood around the one that leads to the lounge. The other doors lead to the elevator, the infirmary, the Staff'S Quarters and the bridge. In here there'S nothing but two benches which have been welded to the walls. Everything else was probably sucked out into space. Now this might seem vague but... Something is weird about this room. I can't see or hear anything that might warrant this feeling, but it's there. More like a gut feeling of... wrongness.

Now that's reassuring.

Well, I don't think, I can do much, right now, so I head into the infirmary. Inside there are a few beds and other equipment... Can't really make much out, so I rummage through the cabinets with my left hand. This might take a while.

We can search the visitors quarters, the bridge, or the dining hall. The bridge has probably the best loot, maybe even a key card for the restricted areas like the EVA hatch and Storage rooms.

If you ever feel stressed, try and take a look at a few cute pictures you might have stored on your assistant. Maybe an old boyfriend or the family puppy. Hell, maybe we can try and get a few pictures to you. Do you like... SAMUEL L JACKSON!

I'm sorry... I don't see no Jackson. Looks like my schizophrenia is limited to voices. Thank god for that. But I do have a few nice pictures on my pocket secretary. I'll be sure to look at them, when I'm losing hope.

I leave the infirmary and go right to the wide-open door that leads to the bridge. It's dark in there, so I squint my eyes a little, as I go in. I think I see someone sitting there and-

...

Something flashed before my eyes. I'm standing in the break room again... In the door to the Staff's Quarters staring into the break room to be precise. That... shouldn't have happened. I'm more puzzled than shocked about this, but my body seems to think otherwise. I fall to my knees, retching and gagging, but nothing happens except for a horrible taste spreading in my mouth. My eyes are watery. Ugh. I'm so hungry all of a sudden.

Also check to see if your body is still human or if it's decidedly otherworldly. If this is a flashback, then cue a case of You Are The Demon. If this is a psychic vision from whatever monster killed all those people, then... that's kinda weird. Enjoy the ride.

Fine. I quickly slink through the door and approach the elevator shaft. It's very quiet down there. I start climbing down the ladder with only one hand. I sit completely still just listening to my surroundings, but the shaft is as quiet as it gets. I climb down to the second platform, rest, listen. Nothing. I climb the last bit and see a very heavy looking door. Somebody cut an opening into it and on the other side I can see a long corridor, illuminated, interestingly, by red emergency lights.
