[Time: Day 1, Afternoon]
I don 't need to break the log apart (besides, that would take a few hours). I can just use one of those heavy branches.

... darn. As soon as I come anywhere close, it's swarming me. They're too fast, some green, bloated small insects... if these are nests, they completely infested these trees.

These things seem very aggressive, but they're not trying to sting me. Maybe it's like with the lizken, I smell too weird or something.

... building stuff with obsidian? What are you -- you know what. Nevermind.

Gentlemen, Ladies, I'm afraid I have some distressing news. After reviewing the information (small, bloated green insects) and reviewing the tape of the incident in question (*splak*), I believe we are dealing with a type of miniature flying creeper. Not very strong, but still enough to catch one off guard. I had my hunches at first contact, but I wasn't sure of my intuition until now.
>>

This is a distressing hypothesis. However it would in important data about their lifecycle we had till now lacked.

Agh! Ow! These little creeps are extremely aggressive! A few chase me off, but are finished killing themselves by the time I reach the dropsite.

How am I supposed to defend myself against them? I can't just throw rocks at the lot.

Ugh, my hair feels like yuck now. At least whatever they're made of isn't corrosive...
At least its over... Don't know how they did that, but it hurts! Now what??

im still hoping lizken can feed off them

well if that was the smallest creeper we got, it could be interesting to analyze those nests later.

Breaking rock. Hmn.

I cant expand the hole, the clay isn't hard enough. For that, I'd need to stop and do something out of that log. With a bad hatchet. That's doable.

Rock.... a spike and a hammer would do it nicely, actually. Could make those ith the wood...

... flint. Heh. Really could use some to make a few tools... I didnt stumbled upon any nodules yet. You guys saw coal, did you see any flint?

... wait, you had a name for those bug things. You... have you seen those things before? Are those bugs on record?
... I'm starting to agree that whoever sent me here hates me.
>>
No. 258374 ID: 7bfbae

well, we called them creepers, but we are REALLY hoping those are as big as they can get and not some larval form. cause otherwise blowing that nest will get bumped up a LOT in the priority list.
>>
No. 258386 ID: f4e0e7

>>258373
Nah, the bugs are new to us, they just reminded us of one of the most terrifying examples of native wildlife we've seen in our entire career. A creature that makes seasoned men break down and cry after an attack, or scream like a little girl after hearing their evil warning hiss.

But this is probably something completely different, so don't worry about it! And we'll keep an eye out for any likely areas for finding flint.
>>
No. 258389 ID: fba40f

>>258373
Their behavior is identical to that of that creature we kept warning you about earlier, the difference being that the creature we were thinking of is the size of a human and explodes with the force of several hand grenades.
>>
No. 258488 ID: a9a46d

>>258389

Several hand grenades? Hardly. My experiments with this creature have concluded that the explosive output the creeper creates is equivalent to at least one small crate of TNT.

Further experimentation with cobblestone, wood, marble, various metallic elements, and even dirt have all led to a similar blast radius report. Which may mean that the internal explosive functions of the creeper are limited despite the force of the explosion.

Above all else, it's recommended that we keep the 'nest' of these possible larval creepers under observation.
>>

But if it were really swarms of this thing, wouldn't the whole terrain be pockmarked with craters?
>>
No. 258498 ID: 7bfbae

>>258497
no, cause they only blow when threatened. it MAY be why no wildlife is near here they all stay the fuck away from the nests. in which case our best bet to find animals is to go exactly away from it.

[Time: Day 1, Sunset]

Yeah, I do need a bath. And food, I didn't eat for over twenty-four hours. But first things first.

It makes no sense to work the tree after the bath, and every other thing you guys asked requires wood. Unfortunately, the hatchet breaks down before I have more than a dozen pieces of timber. I still manage to carve a spike for dislodging stone later.

I find a bit hard to believe a creature as large as the one you mentioned has killing itself as a defense mechanism.... but you're the experts. What else should I expect?

... and here's the dusk. Time flies when you work... I should-- well. Is there anything that must be done before the sun sets?

I AM under a tree, sort of. I wasn't aware of how good your readers are. I was really hoping I wouldn't have to cover myself every time I need to wash up.

Let's see... I finally had my meal, so the MRE is gone; tomorrow I'll .. we'll have to figure out food. Ugh.

Well. Inside the plankpack, I beileve there's... one almost spent plasma cell, maybe two of ten charges.
I got a total of fourteen pieces of timber or so from that tree, and those three heavier branches I mentioned before... plus a stake and a wooden mallet. I can only hope those will be enough to work the rock here. Or at least dislodge larger pieces.
And of course, there's eight cubic metres of dirt.

Outside of that, I have three clean changes of underwear... well, undersuit. I still don't know what I'll do about laundry, but there's plenty of water.

Which by the way, tastes potable. Maybe a bit too mineral, but ok.

They don't exactly explode with monster force at that size, even the really big one didn't actually hurt her. Of course, I'm worried about these larger creepers you guys talk about. I can't find them in the xenobiology archives or even with a general search, but if they exist, they sound super dangerous.

But she needs her sleep. What is she going to do, get up an squash them all individually and then go back to sleep? Make a mesh so tight over the chimney that they can't get in? Waking her up isn't going to help, in fact I think letting her sleep till morning is a good idea.
