My Grandfather...

A man, my father often said, to be cherished, respected, and obedient to. The first of our family to gain renown nationwide.

The Great Healer.

The Slayer of Gods.

The Undying.

How... ironic.

My world is dreamlike, unreal, as I step into his home, the familiar scent of it filling my mind with memories that tug hard at my heart. J stands beside me, holding my hand tightly.

No words need to be said to her about that.

We ascend the stairs, and there is dozens of people I barely recognize. Seerans of all colors, from black to brown to blonde to white, stand gaurd at the front door, at the stair landing, at his room door. The brown one who came for me sits in his room with Ella and my father, and an older woman with long black hair I cannot name. J looks... incredibly sad.

"It's like I'm drowning..." she whispers, but holds my hand tightly, tears sliding down her cheeks as mine follow suit.

Even some gods are here. Erghal is wearing something nice, even. Coyote's ears, normally perked upright, now morosely hang at the sides of his head, while Raven and Anansi, both in human form, wear black outfits.

He's barely breathing, his body struggling to take in air and push it out.

Well this certainly sounds like a good plan. It forces Raeve out of hiding so we can just take care of him personally. I just hope he doesn't have some kind of backup plan for US. I mean, he's been using us as a pawn so what would he do if we turned against him in a way he couldn't take advantage of?

Hey, would demonic energies also include Ante, Ensurian and Harumda? They have reason to remain here. Could they say... wait in the infinite Dungeon until it blows over?

Very well. I shall begin the process shortly...

Be forewarned. He will assault the center of my power in this realm.

His main target will be my sworn, and after that, the entire town. He may also have some sort of ace against godly power...

Well we realized that Raeve is probably like, manipulating us even now and so we decided to just pull a trump card on him so that everything doesn't go completely wrong. Unfortunately that means we're going to provoke an attack. We need to get back to Antares soon.

Use the spyglass to investigate and see if the spear fragment is there, and how many demons are around.

Oh, nothing. We just unleashed a horde of bloodthirsty demons on Antares who has to fight them off for the next month or so in order to prevent the apocalypse, that's all.
You probably want to do something about that, but no pressure or anything.

Ugh. I should know better. An interplanar war. Really. We dash in and claim the peice, and I take Ante into my ring as J mounts her spear, my brother using the underground to speed home.

As we close on the city, I see Asala standing at the top of the wall, ande I toss her Harumda's soulstone, landing beside her as the realization hits her.

"Who? Who is to blame for this?" she growls.

"Them." I reply with a gasp, sending of a flare of black fire and smoke. Four others reply. Then I send up ten more, the signal for an unknown but large force.

Asala growls, drawing forth a glowing yellow blade as tears run down her cheeks.
"My father... and now my husband." she leaps down, growing un size as she falls, impacting the earth and standing a full twelve feet. The charge slows, but doesn't stop. We have moments until they hit Asala... and the city walls.

"Yo." Yorick calls, as my father, mother, aunt, and several others ascend the wall. Along with Ensurian, covered in huge, glistening plates, his arms ending in massive spiked steel spheres.

My father draws a rune-covered blade, his eyes glowing blue, ghostly armor hanging from his body. He joins Asala. Jai stands on the edge of the wall, spinning her revolvers lazily. Ysl leaps and lands next to Father. Brother stands beside her.

More and more people emerge to stand on the front line against the massive army roaring forth. Arynn... The Paladins... a large number of armored men...

Grandmother stands on the battlements, blindfolded, her ears perked forth as she stands ready.

Fuego is briefly lit by ghostly horns and wings as his fist impacts the earth, and a wall of rock and earthen hands and fists rises between the line and the army.

He turns to look up at me.

What do I do, Legion? I'm.... I'm frightened...

Look around you. Your entire family is here to support you. All your friends fight at your side. There is no force in the universe that can stand up to our strength at this moment. Feel the elements of earth and fire at your command, and take heart.

Do you think that after tapping the cane, you could direct the resulting quake to an area further away from you? Instead of being at the center of the earthquake, could you project it at the enemy? Experiment with a single tap first.

Oh, when the fighting starts, you're going to want to activate Ante's pact.

"Ante."
"Yes, Mistress. I fulfill our pact..."

PACT FORM ENGAGED

Pact of the passionate fire:
You grant freedom from any fear effects on your allies and inspire them to acts of courage.

Your fire alchemy is more powerful, and covers greater areas.

You can fly.

Your body is wreathed in intense fire, burning any nonmagical equipment you own but making you hard to aim at, attack, and even damage.

You can easily counter Water-based Alchemy and magic.

Should you carry any incomplete relics of Fire, the peices will be drawn to you, but will not assemble until a full day has passed.

I feel so powerful. I feel the bits of the Spear come near me, and leave them in the earth. The Eternal fire burns below me, all around me, in my heart, in my soul.

There is no doubt in my mind any longer. My friends and family stand before me. The question is no longer whether we will survive...

But rather how many of them can we make die?

Infusing the earth that makes up the wall with fire, melting it down into thick, syrupy magma, I watch as they charge into its depths without heed, losing easily a hundred, maybe a hundred and fifty... only for the rest to charge over those first few, leaving me to begin blasting away those that don't sink into it away with concentrated blasts of fire, my brother moving forth to assist me as mother blasts them with her revolvers from the wall.

But they aren't losing any ground. The whole army does not charge at once, but instead comes at us peicemeal, ten or twenty at a time, to their deaths, aswe blow them away time and again.

They're holding back, trying to wear us down? I don't like that. I don't like that at all. How about some improvised catapult action? Get some boulders for the strongest among us to throw. Or launch via rune power, in Antares' case.

If I can make a suggestion? Send Ensurian to gather the soulstones so they can't reclaim their dead, and then bring a few hundred of the weaker ones to Asala for Harumda to eat.
Having him able to fight would be a significant boost.

OH! Also! We need somebody to surround the town with as wide and deep a chasm as possible save for one side, then fill it with water.
After that? Bless the chasm.

Ooh, traps? What kind of traps?

Oh, and hello again. Long time no see. You've been doing well, I hope? What kind of new rune stuff have you discovered?

I wonder what kind of shenanigans we can pull just from use of the Blessing rune. Anathema to demons, right?
>>
No. 169798 ID: e31d52

My traps are rather simple... I nearly complete a rune, leaving but a small peice of it undone... then finish the etching from afar, a new power granted by the completion of my Swearing. I know Blessing, Augmentation, Wounds, Death, Undeath. I can make a small sealing circle for people with the three runes Blessing, Augmentation, and Death, placing Augmentation last and triggering from a distance.

>Moat

They're actually working on the first part now.

I send Trik out to collect the stones, just as Gerald arrives, wearing the Hat.

I smile. The hat resized to fit him, and I watch with glee as he shoves his whole arm in, grabbing five of the demons at a time and pulling them into the Hatspace.

Oh, I take it that members of his race can't die of old age? (also you forgot to mention Courage)

So hey is anyone launching boulders at the demons since they've decided to hang back and try to wear us down? Granted, I worry they'd be able to throw the boulders back at us.

Other options are using the hat to launch a storm of sharp implements at them, or letting Rosie reach through the hat with the cane to trigger a quake in their midst.

Ah, right. Of course.

>Other options are using the hat to launch a storm of sharp implements at them, or letting Rosie reach through the hat with the cane to trigger a quake in their midst.

Just as you mention that, Gerald wanders to the edge of the river of flames and casually inverts it, some thirty or forty demons blasting out with a thunderous roar.

Some time ago we discovered that the force of the blast was relative to the mass stored.

The whole force flies back, the front line suddenly not the front line any more and the middle line the front line. My son and Ensurian punch the earth at the same time, and first, a wall of hands springs forth... then the wall smooths perfectly, and spikes appear atop it.

We pile the soulstones, the pile slowly shifting as they subsume one another, and Asala is dragged back, the soulstone wrenched from her grasp, and tossed into the...

former pile.

It glints, as if to burp, but little else occurs at first.

Then it shatters, and Harumda appears, shaking his head.

"Fecking morons." he grumbles.

As for the traps? Boulders underground with a rather large Courage symbol on each.

Pain doesn't need nerves to occur. It is a simple, yet powerful fact of the mind designed to punish you and warn you of the dangers of the world. Things like heartbreak, frustration, and the like, you know what I mean. If what I've heard is true, then that 'attack' was not such. It was pain from yourself, warning you that this was a being of great and terrible power... with limited patience.

Put simply?

That wasn't pain, but fear.

Anyway, I'll handle this and be back in a moment.

#$%#^%%@^#&^%&
Everything's quiet. We've killed all the ones that hung behind, and the other side of the wall is silent. The fires on my bodyhave long since gone out, Ante appearing beside me, tired, before slipping into the ring quietly. I make clothing from sand.

And then there is a long, low laugh from the other side of the wall, lasting almost half a minute.

"Five hundred twenty three soldiers dead. Fifty specialists dead. Ten veterans dead. A single elite dead."

Something slices a hole in the wall, and we prepare ourselves... to see a single man walk through, arms crossed in front of his chest, wearing heavy armor.
"I must say, for a couple of humans and a powerful magical artifact, well done! You've managed to slay a single hundred thousandth of one division of my men. Impressive... but I doubt you can keep that sort of chicanery up. But I'm being rude... My name is Sanfas, and I am the newest Lord of the Warriors. You're lucky. Harumda wasn't born into his position, so he won't be turning to sand."

He cocks his head to one side.

"Please, introduce yourself. Anyone who's worthy of being killed by myself, personally deserves to have their name remembered."

...Ugh, are we really going to have to kill that entire army? This is rather discouraging. Still, we must press on. We need to figure out some kind of rotation so people can rest and recover while others defend. Also we have to kill this guy.

Introduce yourself while winding up the cane and ...hmm, I wonder if Fire body would be more effective than Earth body in this case?

I begin to spin the cane, and he laughs.

"Hold on, there." he says, holding up a single gauntleted hand. "There's no need to rush things. I'm here to make a mutually beneficial offer, if you're willing to listen. I will only strike to defend myself. I hazve no intention of harming such a firey young lady..." he thinks for a moment. "Perhaps a show of vulnerability."

If you were to give it to me, I'd happily leave... and you have my personal word that I will do my best to keep at the very least this city safe and sound from whatever my master is plotting." He looks me in the eyes, stepping closer.

"A woman who fights so hard and so well is a rare prize. I'm happy to have met you, fiery hearted woman."

"I... I ah, need to think on this. Can I assume your men will not attack while I do so?"

Well basically it looks like Sanfas has a thing for you. He's willing to use his army to protect Rivermeet in exchange for either the Book of Final Deeds, or... your hand in marriage.

Obviously it would be advantageous to keep the Book out of Raeve's hands but it's also obviously not right to break up you and J and have you marry someone you don't want to.

So, that's what he meant when he said he's willing to court 'the lady' for a few days.

J is in deep thought, looking at the man. No, demon. He's a demon. I can't forget that, he's the enemy.

The best thing to do would be to go along with his plan. O-o-objectively, I mean. It's not like I like him or... or anything. I just mean that's the path with the... least risk.

even though he is a demon remember that Asala and Harumda seem to get along pretty well.

anyway. let him know that J had your heart first so she has to come with and he must not only convince you but her as well.

Hmm. I suppose. You've got 3 days to decide, after all. Shall we confer with J in private?

Send us over to her please, I'd like to see her inner thoughts.

Alright. I'll send you over...

#%^@#%^$@&@&^^&

Well, at the very least he isn't ugly... or rude. And he's been polite thus far.

He pulls a dagger from his hip and throws it precisely at the ground to his left, and something sparks.

In reply, so does Antares's hand.
"How..."
"How what?"
"How did you know I was setting a trap?"
"Distrust runs deep in your veins, human." he says, leaning to one side, a hand on his hip. "I'm surprised you didn't start it sooner. Furthermore, I advise against using an ability tied to your Soul around a Demon and expecting it to go unanticipated. Let me speak candidly, then... At first, I wanted to kill every last one of you. No mercy. Just blood. But then I saw how valiantly, how strongly, how honestly this young lady fought, and I was enamored by that power. If she accepts this offer to court her, I will do everything in my considerable power to protect you, this city, and the book... and any further artifacts that may appear here. After all, I have my own doubts about what Raeve is scheming... However, should you prove to be his equal in deceptive acts, I shall run out of patience and deem you a lost cause. Am I clear, Antares Delarosa?"

His eyes flash, and he turns to me.
"I can see that you and this Rosie are very close. Let it be known that my heart has room for many... and has housed many, in the past. I would be happy to walk with the both of you, if that is your desire."

This is such an interesting situation we're in.

Well, J... he seems like an okay fellow. I know you didn't want to share Rosie with Danny before, but now... I guess there's an extra incentive.

Tell him you will consider his offer, then go off to confer with Rosie.
Normally there are rules in place which allow deities to forgo their normal methods and act directly, and usually a being this powerful counts. However, this is a crapsack universe so we don't have anything that nice to work with.

On the upshot, it would at least continue your respective family lines.

...well, that would require getting Sanfas a body via Achilles. Unless Sanfas is special in that respect.

Ask him why he wants wives if he can't sleep with them. If he's just looking for friends and companionship, he just has to be nice and he'll get it anyway.
>>
No. 170827 ID: 7524b0

OH, let's not forget about Ante. Why is she still in the ring and not out giving her opinion too? Perhaps the strain of Pacting made her go to 'sleep' for a while.

Hmmm... perhaps more thought is needed.

>>170826
He cocks an eyebrow.
"Truth be told, sex only appeals to the Seducers. The rest of us have our own... hobbies, I think would be the proper human word for it. Or drive. I like the way you fight. So I like you."

Interesting. So it sounds like you're not going to have to like, share a bed with him or anything. It would be replaced by some intense sparring. Everything else about the relationship would still apply I suppose.
>>
No. 170845 ID: 0b2a05

Inform him that humanoids mostly base marriage around sex, if he just wants to hang out and have fun with people, really all he has to is ask. Obviously it couldn't take up all the time, but any adequate marriage would have the same effects.

No. 170846 ID: 701a19

Tell him that he can have that without marriage, since sparring is something you do with friends.

"W-well, then we don't really have to wed..."

"I am interested in having a son." he says bluntly. "I'm interested in many things about humans. So while I see no point in sex..."

"Oh."

"Rest assured, I will not take you unless you are willing. Between you and me... I would like nothing more than to have Raeve die. This achieves both that and my own personal desires."

Welp.

I guess you've got a few days to work things out.

hmmm... then i suggest he takes as human a form as he can and we have that date as far away from here as we can so that no one would be able to think he is a demon and no one would know who rosie's family is.

I dunno, it seems like we'd probably be best off staying in Rivermeet so that the giant army of demons outside doesn't rip us to shreds and stuff.

You don't seem to have many options here.
I don't like it, but it looks like you have to accept his offer.

Oh, that reminds me. Achilles is capable of making it so that Rosie and you can have a biological child of your own.
>>

He has no penis. Ask him if he could just adopt? And why an actual marriage is so important?
>>
No. 170860 ID: e31d52

"B-but how..."
"You might notice I am somewhat more... bearable to look upon than other demons." he says. "My form was blessed to me by the Lady Seducer, and I never bothered to change it back. There were... other benefits." he shrugs.

"Rosie... what do you think? Three days?"
"I think that's fine."
"Very well. Come with me." he pulls the dagger out of the ground and replaces it in a holster.
"Germinas, would you fetch my harness?" he asks, removing his armor peice by peice, revealing a rather simple leather outfit below. He's... really... well, he's appealing.

He puts on something looks like a combination backpack and easy chair.

"Get on. We're going for a trip. Germinas, while I am away, protection of this city and its citizens is your only concern. Am I clear?"

"Uzaggin, Leeg."

"Good."

"Rosie, don't forget the spear bits."
"Ah, right..." she says, running off to fetch them.

"You're playing adangerous game, Sanfas." I say to him.
"Hm?"
"Maybe you are as fast as sound itself, but... that doesn't mean you can dodge everything. I've faced a foe that didn't care at all how fast I was, and he almost made me murder my own lover."
I look him in the eye. "And my foe wasn't even a Lord. Do you know what you're getting into?"

Sanfas frowns.
"I know. But some risks must be taken. This is the safest way for everyone involved to stop him... I assume you understand that as well, descendant of Dre-Anin."

Wh-what?!

"How did... How did you know?!"

"I have my own information networks. Don't worry. I won't tell a soul."

I wish we hadn't heard that. We're not great at keeping secrets. Of course, I'll try anyway!

Not sure why it matters though. His contribution to the bloodline must be very diluted by now.

Rosie needs to know, and I know for a fact that the Delarosa family can be trusted completely.

He can't lie, so if he says this is the safest way then that's the truth as he knows it.

"Yeah... that's right. Why though? Shouldn't your master have put orders into place...?"
"He underestimated my cunning. I appeared stupid and obediant to him." he shrugs. "So I can do this."
"Use us as tools to get around him."
"No... not tools. Collaborators."

Rosie returns with a new outfit and the peices of the spear in hand.

"All right. We'll be going to the other continent, then. Get on."

"Which one? There's three..."
"Clearly...you're not yet strong enough to fight the other hordes. so we're going to make you stronger." he smiles. "The Dark Land. The one wracked with terrible energies, more so than than even the Weird beyond the magicwall mountains. A dangerous, forbidding land without remorse."

Rosie looks like she's about to faint... It seems Sanfas enjoys teasing her.

"Don't worry about it. If you're in trouble, I'll"
"We'll save you." I butt in, getting on the backpack thing. Rosie follows me.

"Hold on tightly." he warns us, and I do.

There is a loud crack, and we vanish.
