"Well, Prince, so Genoa and Lucca are now just family estates of the Buonapartes.
But I warn you, if you don't tell me that this means war, if you still try to defend
the infamies and horrors perpetrated by that Antichrist--I really believe he is Antichrist--
I will have nothing more to do with you and you are no longer my friend, no longer my 'faithful slave,'
as you call yourself! But how do you do? I see I have frightened you--sit down and tell me all the news."

It was in July, 1805, and the speaker was the well-known Anna Pavlovna Scherer,
maid of honor and favorite of the Empress Marya Fedorovna. With these words she greeted Prince Vasili Kuragin,
a man of high rank and importance, who was the first to arrive at her reception. Anna Pavlovna had had a cough for some days.
She was, as she said, suffering from la grippe; grippe being then a new word in St. Petersburg, used only by the elite.

Anyways, there's some trouble or something at the Tozol tubes.

Good luck with that one you guys, I'm going on vacation.

In 1815, M. Charles-Francois-Bienvenu Myriel was Bishop of D---- He was an old man of about seventy-five years of age; he had occupied the see of D---- since 1806.
Although this detail has no connection whatever with the real substance of what we are about to relate, it will not be superfluous, if merely for the sake of exactness in all points, to mention here the various rumors and remarks which had been in circulation about him from the very moment when he arrived in the diocese. True or false, that which is said of men often occupies as important a place in their lives, and above all in their destinies, as that which they do. M. Myriel was the son of a councillor of the Parliament of Aix; hence he belonged to the nobility of the bar. It was said that his father, destining him to be the heir of his own post, had married him at a very early age, eighteen or twenty, in accordance with a custom which is rather widely prevalent in parliamentary families. In spite of this marriage, however, it was said that Charles Myriel created a great deal of talk. He was well formed, though rather short in stature, elegant, graceful, intelligent; the whole of the first portion of his life had been devoted to the world and to gallantry.

Meanwhile, at the Tozol tubes...

"Wanna dance?"
"Shake it baby!"

... Moral is reaching new hights.

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness,
it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness,
it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us,
we were all going direct to Heaven, we were all going direct the other way--in short, the period was so far like the present period,
that some of its noisiest authorities insisted on its being received, for good or for evil, in the superlative degree of comparison only.

There were a king with a large jaw and a queen with a plain face, on the throne of England; there were a king with a large jaw and a queen with a fair face,
on the throne of France. In both countries it was clearer than crystal to the lords of the State preserves of loaves and fishes,
that things in general were settled for ever.

God damnit. First, XKCD makes me learn unix and now you make me go out with an interesting problem off to my calculus teacher. I USE TGCHAN TO GET AWAY FROM LEARNING, YOU BASTARD.

...

Anyone fielding this? I can just ask a professor, I'd rather not do so because that's how one kills one's respectability and the good part of an afternoon.

I'd love to, but given that I've /only/ taken Calc 1 I have no idea what the hell that a-like symbol means.
>>
No. 157144 ID: 8d430d

The "a-like" symbol is partial derivative: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Partial_derivative

If I remember differential equations correctly (which I probably don't), then the partial derivative of function g with respect to t is (2t,-2t) and the partial derivative of function g with respect to v is (-2v,2v) so v*(2t,-2t) + t*(-2v,2v) = (2tv,-2tv) + (-2tv,2tv) = (0,0) = 0

Probably wrong, but whatever. I don't even read this quest.

For the sake of gender equality we should make a male tozol

No. 157160 ID: 3b6c92

>>157122
Fine.

If I did this right, anyway.

g(t,v) = f(t²-v²,v²-t²)

so then

v(∂g/∂t) + t(∂g/∂v) = v(∂f/∂t) + t(∂f/∂v)

call t²-v² x and v²-t² y

so then

∂f/∂t = ∂f/∂x ∂x/∂t + ∂f/∂y ∂y/∂t

and

∂f/∂v = ∂f/∂x ∂x/∂v + ∂f/∂y ∂y/∂v

∂x/∂t = 2t
∂x/∂v = -2v
∂y/∂t = -2t
∂y/∂v = 2v

so

∂f/∂t = ∂f/∂x 2t - ∂f/∂y 2t
∂f/∂v = ∂f/∂y 2v - ∂f/∂x 2v

v(∂f/∂t) = ∂f/∂x 2tv - ∂f/∂y 2tv
t(∂f/∂v) = ∂f/∂y 2tv - ∂f/∂x 2tv

∂f/∂x 2tv - ∂f/∂x 2tv + ∂f/∂y 2tv - ∂f/∂y 2tv = 0

which is I think basically what Durandal has up there but whatever.

Ding ding ding! We have a winner(s)!

Congratulations, /tg/chan, on proving that you're smarter than a high-schooler AND willing to work out math just for some furry poon.

The tech-priests administer the Nymph's Gene and what do you know, no human being will ever be productive ever again.

The Breakers suicide in shame.

You win!
