>"I can't even count them all. It's covered up with people."

"Explains where everyone was, I guess."

We've made our way down to ground level. So far it doesn't look like we've been seen or heard, despite blowing a vault door open.

I'm not certain how to proceed. These people could be hostile. If there were only a few of them, I'd take a chance and meet with one of them.

But it's not like we stumbled upon a big mob of people innocently having lunch together.

"The hell is that thing?"

>"Tesseracting Acasion Vessel. TAV. Or, an acasiate. Ships that fly without actually flying."

How 'bout it, voices?

Wait, Kitty seems to know what the thing actually is. Ask her if she knows anything else about it, like if it's from her world, what it's used for, etc. Information like that should help with knowing the intentions of the people.

I count about 30 guys I think. I can't really see if they're armed or not but some should be.

I think we're going to have to use Kitty again. Provided that she can hide her tail and other freaky features. She goes in first with your sidearm. If they're hostile she makes them "kill" her, then you wait until she has resurected and hit them from two directions, you from a long-range with her weapons and she gets close and nasty.

If they're not hostile then we negotiate with them. I'm guessing they're not exactly certain on what they have there and Kitty has alot of knowledge that I'm sure a certain scientist would be interested in.

Ask Kitty about anything useful she can tell us about it.

Also, be sure to stay low, and quiet. Even if you could manage to take all those people out, chances are that thing has some heavy armaments on it.

>30 guys

And no telling how many more where we can't see, including inside the ship, itself.

There seems to be some question about what we're working with, so I'll go over our inventory. Of course, I don't have anything on-hand. This is all Kitty's stuff, all of which is off-world. She doesn't seem to mind me rifling through it all.

She's got a modular sniper rifle of some sort with two clips of incendiary rounds, 12 shots. Three anti-armor mags and seven standard. She's using it right now.

An odd kind of handgun with nine mags that sound like they have liquid in them.

Another handgun Kitty seems protective of. I count seven mags before she whispers I should put it away and leave it alone.

There are two units of the explosives we used earlier remaining.

Ten flares.

Seven of some sort of small pellet she identifies as thrown explosives.

All of this comes from the bag she carries around.

You guys seem overly eager to assault these guys, or jump out into the open without knowing anything about them.

>Kitty resurrected

Guess that's why.

"Kitty, how fast can you recover from being killed?"

>"Burns, if you're taking advice from those voices again, I'd suggest you stop. They know less about me than you do.
>"I'm not going to get into a fight with a hundred or more people, who're probably armed. I don't like being shot. And if I do get killed, I probably won't be conscious again for a week, or a month, depending on the damage."

Oh. Well. Guess Kitty isn't an unstoppable killing machine I can hide behind at my leisure.

Then is there any way you can get closer without being seen, to identify what kind of people they are? Maybe ambush one of them for a friendly (or unfriendly, depending) chat away from the others?
>>
No. 141577 ID: 8ecfd4

>>141572
Well that both simplifies things and make them more difficult.

Ok so we have an unknown amount of people + around 30 guys. From the looks of it they're trying to figure out how to get the ship working or they're doing preflight prep. If they're hostile and how many of them are armed are currently unknown. But they were locked up pretty securly so I would guess they're not to keen on company.

You have two handguns and a sniper rifle as well as explosives and flares. Assault and casual greetings are pretty much exlcluded. Not much more to do then than sneak forward and recon, whoever is the sneakiest should go forward for that and the other one provide cover with the rifle in case everything goes to shit. If an oppurtunity presents itself then snatch someone and question them about what's going on.
>>
No. 141578 ID: 67c611

What can we tell about how the people are acting like from here?

I'd say avoid unless necessary. If you approach them I'd say you carry the bag and have Kitty with her rifle out. Holding it with two hands as a "just in case they aren't friendly" thing. Our body language should be easy to read that we are approaching cautiously because we don't know who they are. Again I advise against approaching them unless there isn't any other options.

.....What's our current objective again?

Hey, only one of us suggested that likely-suicidal course of action. Give us a little credit, here.

... Uhhh.

I don't really know how you should approach this, beyond a not-really-helpful suggestion of "try to get closer and see if you can figure out who exactly has got potentially a hundred guys on this thing." I figure the answer to that implicit question is probably not useful to you though. Maybe somebody else'll do better than me.
>>
No. 141586 ID: bcf25c

That looks like a hell of a lot of zoom. They might not even be able to see you at this distance. The sneakier of you two should probably try to get closer and examine the folks near the ship.

Hopefully they're neutral or friendly-maybe just stopping her briefly and fueling/repairing or similar.

So far the best suggestion I've heard is using stealth and catching one of them away from the others. We can apologize later if they're friendly and escape if they aren't.

>What's our current objective again?

To get you to a safe, secure location. Ironic. Tannon may know something about anything, and this is as good a lead as any in this ghost town. Fuck. I hate this. Not knowing exactly where to go, what to do... I'd do just about anything to have a concrete answer to where I need to be.

>stopping briefly and fueling/repairing

I doubt that. The entire ship is underground. From what I can tell, there are no exits or entrances aside from the one we used, or man-sized ones further on. I'm not sure where the light is coming from, but those holes in the distance are too small to let a ship that size through.

>"This is strange."

Kitty seems anxious.

"What?"

>"I don't know. It's like... none of them are speaking. One will just walk up to the other one, they'll stare at one another and then walk off, if even that. They only use their hands when they have to. Most of them aren't even working on the ship. They just keep moving around in circles."

"What the hell are they doing?"

>"Got me."

No real choice. I guess I'll move up and let Kitty support me while I grab one of them? She's the one who knows her own weapons, after all. I can't do anything back here.

Psychics? Maybe they're working on the ship via telekinesis. Or they're robots, communicating via radio... and some of them are malfunctioning, walking around in circles like that.

How much of this cave is man-made? Could they have built this place just to contain the ship and its 'crew'?
>>

Mind control? Robots? Really?

I think it's more likely they're drugged, crazy or conditioned in some way.

Then again, I am watching them with what's technically an alien...

>"O-okay... are you sure?"

"I'm not incompetent."

>"I didn't -

I wait for one of their "patrols" of seemingly mindless observation to separate before I grab one isolated from the rest.

I target him because he's young, probably more prone to panic. He's wearing a hard hat, so maybe he's in charge of something.

Strangely, he puts up no resistance, and seems completely unsurprised.

It takes even less effort to drag him back to Kitty. The others did not witness or hear any of this, and go about their business.

Now we need to interrogate this guy.

If it helps, a tessaract is the four dimensional analog of the cube. It's composed of 8 cubes, all of which share one side with another cube.

Acasion and acasiate is not something I'm familiar with, though acacia is a rather beautiful low growing tree with bright yellow flowers, a hallmark of spring. The etymology of acacia comes from the Greek word ἀκή (akē), “‘point’” so perhaps acasion has to do with points somehow?

A vessel that traverses the points on a tessaract (16 total) could conceivably be called a "Tesseract Acacia-ing Vessel" but that's about as close as I can get to the technobabble she rattled off there.

Agree to meet with Tannon but not in the base. Tannon is to walk out alone to a prechosen spot, one that is out of sight from the rest of them. Once there you will meet him, then the two of you will go to a new spot where Kitty will meet up with you, during the first part she is to cover the approach for any of Dr. Tannons men, anyone with a weapon coming gets a brand new hole in their head and so does Tannon.

And if you start acting like the rest of them once you're close to Tannon then she is to drop him.

To get him to agree to these terms young Tim is to tell Tannon that Kitty knows exactly what it is they have down there and how it operates. With her help he could uncover amazing facts about these ancient civilizations.

I suggest you move out through the door you opened and meet him out there, set up one of the explosive charges there as well and arm it. Then you will have an easily defended bottleneck as well quick access to your get away vehicle. If being close to Tannon makes you start acting weird then shoot him and get away.

Once you're face to face with Tannon offer him an information exchange, after he has told you about what's going on in there. And as your mission is to keep us a secret among other things then don't ,no matter what we might suggest, show us to him or tell him about us.

Ok Tannon seems to be the one responsible for their strange behaviour. This guy also seems like a no time for bullshit kind of guy.

Start of by explaining the basics of your current mission for him. You need a safe vault for storage. Preferably one that hasn't been opened and is at a remote location. What you need it for is your buisness and not something he should conern himself with.

What you're willing to offer in trade is a chance for him to pick Kittys brain. She knows alot about these ancient civilisations and should be able to provide him with some breakthroughs in his research about them.

Once you have gotten past that ask him what he is doing with that TAV. If he is unwilling to talk about that then drop the issue, for now atleast. You really should have a talk with Kitty about what that is and what it can do. It might be something that could be incredibly useful to have and if that's the case then we're going to have to figure out a way to snatch it from them.

Give him a bit more information about the bar keeper. It's hardly vital information for you and by giving it to him you show that you're willing to cooperate.

And ask him if you could get a list of the vaults like the one you found us in that he knows of. He doesn't need to know which one you're going to pick.

What a wonderfully pragmatic man. His views are a bit confined but still. Don't counter threat him. He is a sharp bastard and probably has a backup plan against any of your possible aggressions.

This is where you make the offer he can't refuse and hope Kitty can live up to her part. You're going to offer him to get that ship up and running and get him and everyone else out of here without a trace. Of course that happening hinges on Kitty and you being alive.

Hopefully he is smart enough to know that torture doesn't always work, on Kitty it's pretty much guaranted not to work, atleast not fast. And you would be pretty worthless as a hostage because she doesn't really care alot about people. And lets hope that Kitty knows more about TAV other than what it's called. Otherwise you're going to have a big problem at your hands.

Hmmm, I think I know what he wants that ship for. He wants to go back home. The people he has there are probably behaving oddly because of him and some off world device or ability. They don't really seem to operate a maximum efficiancy though.

Ignore him for now and ask Kitty if she can get that ship up and running. If she can then offer help. If she can't then offer to draw off the coalition in exchange for a list of vaults similar to the one where you found us.

He simmers on this for a while. He doesn't seem to ever think long, so he must be working up something interesting.

Tannon glances coldly at her, continuing to think.

You guys are pretty hardcore when it's not you getting blown up, huh?

We follow, regardless, prepared for anything we can think of.

>"Husks," she answers. "Humans that had another brain of some kind implanted in their heads, in the original. The original people are dead. They're Acruen spies."

"So they aren't all like this?"

>"No. Some people call them robots. Some say they used to be organic, or that they still are. Don't know. Haven't dealt any with them. I do know they usually have their own bodies. They're supposed to be difficult to find."

That and I think suicide explosives are a great way to keep people honest, preferably they should be in the kiloton range but lesser yields are acceptable.

Ask Kitty why Tannon seemed so hostile towards her kind. I'm guessing Kitty is the product of alot of genetic tampering with the goals of creating a slave race and Tannons people aren't exactly thrilled with how it turned out.

>Ask Kitty why Tannon seemed so hostile towards her kind.

She explains on the way that Acruen seem to naturally hate all biological life, which is why he addressed us as "animals."

After several minutes of coursing through the ship, we arrive at a massive chamber. A soft hum overtakes everything. The walls and floor seem to constantly shiver.

>"This is the primary housing chamber," Tannon explains on the way.
>"The singularity inside the chamber is contained by several million acasiation coupler rods within its own fractured space.
>"Although the ships are typically kept in perfect condition by maintaining their own suspension fields, to ensure entropy doesn't acclimate, sometimes things do break down.
>"Most likely, this was a problem that was never fixed during construction. The million or so years this ship has been here was enough for the drive core to need to be folded back into itself."

I have no idea what the fuck he's talking about.

>"Unfortunately, we don't have the equipment here to do this, so it's been difficult to stabilize the suspension drive long enough to ignite the acasiate's main chamber. We can't get airborne.
>"This is where you come in. The dimensional space isn't entirely lethal, but it will kill most lifeforms before they can complete the repairs. I've sent in several of my crewmen, in the hopes that when one died, the other could continue their work. For whatever reason, none have succeeded."

Kitty clears her throat, likely completely aware that I have no idea what's going on.

>"So you need one of us to enter the singularity and realign the coupler rods to ignite the acasiate's realignment phase, to power the suspension field?"

>"Yes."

>"Is it just a switch, or...?"

>"It will be somewhat like entering the Expanse on foot."

>"Oh, god," she declares. "Burns, you can't do this. It has to be me."

"Oh, you think so?"

Do we do this? Is there any reason why I should be the one to go inside this thing? Should I hand you over to Kitty? I wonder if I could trap you inside of this thing's engine, or whatever this is... If it kills people when it enters, then...

What do you think?

There are almost always other ways.

So tell us a bit more about what it is you're going to do. From what I understood you need to recreate the singularity that provided power and it's going to be alot of radiation flying around. Is there more to it than that or is the rest of the risk just the normal ones involved when playing around with singularities?

I find myself in the control field. A million towering coupler rods stand like a forest before me, in a field of endless white.

It would be easy to get lost in this.

Don't be fooled by your eyes. The space here is warped, and missing in places, despite light bouncing off of the mass within it. It's an incredibly confusing, dangerous place. Entering without an acasiation suit is close to a death sentence.

The air forgets itself. You can suffocate when it moves. The light's origin, whatever it may be, changes rapidly.

At any moment, you can be torn apart when space fractures. There's no warning. It's no wonder the Acruen husks died in here. Even I'll likely sustain a great deal of injury.

I don't know why Burns gave you to me. Did he leave a message? He must have wanted me to know something. He couldn't have just been worried about my safety. I'm a stranger to him.

Regardless, there's something he doesn't know:

>tell us a bit more about what it is you're going to do

The control mechanism isn't an object so much as a place. It's void of mass. Simply reaching it will cause the suspension drive to fold back in, which will start the ship.

The problem is, you can never be sure where it is, without equipment to read its location.

>a lot of radiation flying around

No. Not in the way you'd think. It doesn't pose much of a danger to me.

I'm frightened, if you can tell. But it's not the physical dangers that concern me.

The only way to find your way in here is to follow your senses. And if you stay here too long, reality starts to break down. Memories become landmarks, and dreams become obstacles. It's almost just like the Expanse.

We could be trapped here, until an engineering crew finds us. With the Acruen piloting the ship, that could be centuries, or longer. Even then, they wouldn't care if I stayed here or not.

We must be careful, at all costs.

Part of his resons for giving us to you are a bit selfish. If we're lost in here then he can be pretty certain that we're in a place that nobody can get too, atleast not easily. I don't think that would be a good idea though. And part of it is that he does actually care for you and he hopes that we might help keep you safe. You're currently pretty much one of the few solid landmarks in his life. He has lost his nation, his family is adrift somewhere likely as refugees, he no longer has any orders or the structure of his old life. Without you there and some sort of goal I think it's likely he would just drink himself to death, only that wouldn't work. So I think you're more important to him than you give yourself credit for.

So following you senses you say. Our only sense is sight, so can you give us any description on what we should look for?

And you said the reality in here can be shaped by the observer. Is that something that could be used to find what you're looking for with a disciplined enough mind?

I stand.

Reklaw watches me, scrutinizing me. I know this isn't really him, but the effect is the same. How I hate this man.

I'm back in... reality. The white field is distorted beyond recognition. I can feel forces around me tearing at my body. Some of my bones sustained minor fractures in my absence. I ignore the pain.

>Doing what I know needs to be done.
>Isn't that what you're doing?

Yes. Yes, it is. This goes beyond why I'm here. I'm not doing this for selfish reasons.

I'm putting my life on the line to help Burns. It's not because he's done anything for me, or even because I care about him. I'm doing this because it's my choice. It's what I want to do.

Mother was wrong.

A raised platform appears before me, with two books upon its surface.

The one on my right is entitled "SAFETY." It has no author.

The one on my left is entitled "LOVE." The author's name has been scratched away.

I have to open one of these books, I know. This is what I've been looking for.

The idea of Reklaw continues to watch, awaiting my answer.

Who wrote it?

My mother sent me into safety, out of love.

For all of my life, I've run to safety. Reklaw cursed me to live a life of eternal safety from death, as punishment for my inability to... Well. I deserved it. I know.

I no longer have to, but I keep running, because I'm still afraid of pain. I've worked through these problems countless times. I'm a century and a half old, but I keep returning to my old ways.

I've always known what I wanted, but I've always been taught to take the path to stability - to assurances.

Not today. Perhaps, never again.

*entry of the Sunrisen Empire into war with the Coalition
*the escape of Doctor Tannon from Kalian
*Kitty's temporary entrapment within the singularity
*the destruction of the Qer TAV
*a hardcore sex scene between Kitty and a futa version of herself

The main plot does not deviate dramatically and events do not have dramatically negative outcomes unless players persistently make terrible decisions.

We can fix his alcoholism later. And it's not like he can die from a busted liver now is it.

I'm a bit pissed that we lost the TAV though. My plan was for her to go as far forward as she could in cover and then yell out for Burns and Tannon and have Tannons remaining husks cover Burns and Tannon while they got inside. But this should be more fun.

Can we still get the Empire in on the war? Because I can think of a couple of ways we should be able to make that happen.

By the way I liked this summary. It's nice to see what consequences actions have had and what they could have had.

Well, sounds like we want to get the empire into the war, and get the TAV back. Don't want them to have it... but vault first.
