"When I was but a boy, my family was murdered, my throne was stolen from me, and I was chased from the Kingdom that was once to be mine, knowing my other option was a drawn-out and painful public execution. I was thrown out into the world, awash in a sea of blood.

A lifetime of service and this is how the people thanked my family for it.

I had no friends, no family, no assets. Nothing to my name, save the threat of death should I speak it. My place in the world vanished.

The Revolutionists and their leader, the new King, stole everything from me. They ruined my life.

I want vengeance, and I want it now.
Yes, I want vengeance, and I'm going to make sure I get it somehow.
I'm going to really make him pay for what he's done.

You could marry her, ransom her, kill her, befriend her, or give her to Dompag and let him decide, for starters. For the time being though, you should interrogate her while being courteous.

Ask her how she's doing, and how her life is in general.

Muschio if I may I have a delicious plan. It’s true you could achieve vengeance by harming the princess, but I have a much better plan. You now have arguably the most important thing the king has his daughter but there is still one thing more important. His Nation, you could incite a rebelling against this king the way he set against your father, the irony would be delicious. Better yet, if you show compassion towards the princess and she were to join you imagine how sweet the vengeance would be for his father to find out his own daughter has turned against him and if this king has been doing terrible deeds you can on cover them and no longer are you a villain looking for vengeance, but a Noble Revolutionist seeking to right the wrongs of the past.

Dompag and the others return to their posts and their duties.

I must admit, I am impressed. This was a very rash plan but I can't argue with the results. I was just saying I need to give my minions -- my allies more credit, and here they've shown they're capable of handling increased responsibility. Perhaps I should begin making larger plans. A larger army couldn't hurt, but my existing task force is more capable than I had previously believed.
They've proved themselves capable of action, and I respect them for it. I did say I needed to be less detached.

As for the Princess, it seems a most cunning scheme would be to turn her against her father or her kingdom, and vice versa. However, though she seems naive, she also appears relatively reasonable. I'm not quite sure how to approach this, and Tislomer isn't capable of any potions of transmogrification. Certainly not any permanent ones.

I don't know if I quite know how to approach this situation. If I am to brainwash her, perhaps I should learn more about brainwashing.

Why don't we turn her into one? There's got to be something like, say, a TRANSFORMATION POTION or something somewhere nearby, right?

I have no qualms about extracting a ransom in addition, but turning her against her father is a task.

It's true that I'm not incapable of basic kindness, and that I do have training in diplomacy, but the latter is more related to open trade, inter-national policies, race relations, and so on. There was never exactly a class on how to warp the will of a captive to the point that she can be turned against her own flesh and blood entirely of my own volition.

Well in that case Mushi, head back to the cell. Smile calmly and act like a gracious host. Inquire as to her health and appetite. Satisfy her needs and have dinner (Breakfast? Lunch?) with her. Small talk about the current state of your former kingdom. Act completely different towards her than before.

I was under the impression those had all been destroyed. Though I suppose that's a fantastic shortcut if it's available, or perhaps if I could have Finesse make one from any blueprints.

>Ask Dompag.
Dompag's silver tongue is impressive, but as you've already relayed, his forte is certainly a more immediate, less grand one than the level of deception I'd require. Convincing someone to submit to carnal urges is far, far removed from turning blood against blood, especially given I'm sure her father treats her like an absolute -- well, like a Princess.

Who says you need to love her? You just need to marry her, love is not involved. Of course that's not to say we can't make her fall in love with us, it will at least keep her quiet... actually... I have a plan.

Somehow we seduce her into loving you. With her under our wing we set up a ransom. Once she's back with the king she escapes to you again. With the king's money and the princes you pretty much him in the palm of your hands. And once that is complete, we, "legally", take back the kingdom.

This will be in no way simple, and may end up being a plan b or c but a plan it is nonetheless.

Hm. So be it. I'll see if my ally the Commander has any useful advice. Even lacking magical devices, I'm sure she would have some insight on controlling captives.

Now, should I pay Commander Coriander Salamander a visit in person, or should I send a minion and stay behind to keep an eye on the Princess personally?

I think it'd do you good to get away from the vault before you kill the princess yourself. Just make sure that your crew knows messing around wont be tolerated.

Well, we did plan to go visit your friend Ridder did we not?

As for you romancing the princess, I agree with your assessment. It would be too much trouble for too little return. We don't need their family's legitimacy to claim the crown. Their family has 'no' legitimate claim to the crown!

However, there is no reason she could not serve to aid us in some function, I would suggest 'sharding' her to start out with... also I must note that the mind control clothing was easy enough for us to defeat, we should not consider such an option very seriously.

Getting our house and especially our underlings in order was the entire point before this distraction came up. We should continue with that.

As for the princess whatever we decide to do will take time. For now and for the foreseeable future she stays with us. She's ours. Make sure she, and we, understand that.

Sorry to return to an earlier subject, but you need not act completely different right away. It is understandable that you would be consumed with rage upon your initial meeting, and later calm down, as indeed seems to be the case. As she herself said, she understands your emotional response.

You may be able to play off that understanding. Already you may have planted a seed of doubt in her by commenting on your persecution as an innocent child. You may even be able to manipulate her into drawing a comparison between her current situation and your own - her imprisoned in a cage for her father's deeds, and you "imprisoned" in your life for yours.

Well of course you could just r... uh *krr-kumb* her into Stockholm syndrome but even then it seems evil, cruel and unnecessary, especially if we're trying a new more moral approach to things. Plus you said you didn't even want to copulate with her for any reason... though this isn't about love and more cruelty into holy shit she's fucking insane.

hey, Muschio... have you heard of "stockholm syndrome"?

It's... a mental pattern that has been observed in our analysis. It shows that captives treated decently over a period of time begin to like their captors... and we mean genuinely like.

As in, it'll take a while... but if you treat this princess with enough respect for a while... she is almost given to convert to your side.

In addition, she has no clue about you. Judging from her age, she was probably a toddler when you lost your family and kingdom. She knows nothing and her father was all she knew. Imagine the crap you'd feel in her position, and use it to your advantage. Try to invoke sympathy to you. Get sympathy back.

And for godsake, if she willingly has your baby: She creates an 'abomination' which her father cannot kill without backlash. He kills it, he permenantly loses his daughter (and therefore his lineage). He doesn't kill it: your son/daughter will be the future ruler (and the people will be pissed at him for accepting what he said was bad)

The Commander shakes her head and sighs.
>"No, the remaining devices lost their power when the sorcerer Olber was killed. It seems they were reliant on him for some manner of magical upkeep. A shame. As hated as they were after our imprisonment, they certainly could have proved valuable. If nothing else, it would have helped when we took our own prisoners."
"Oh? Have you had to take captives since last we met?"
>"Well, just a one. Some young man, a human I think, who threatened Arabella and attacked our shrubbery."
"Your shrubbery? You mean, those hedge animals outside? How strange. What happened to him?"
>"Well, would you believe it, we were shortly thereafter visited by a Northwalker, and he insisted on releasing the boy. When I said no, he ended up springing the troublemaker himself and the two ran off. Quite odd business, but at least we didn't have to worry about him anymore."

Something about this story...
"The Northwalker -- did he have a name?"
>"Ah, yes, and I have it somewhere but I can't remember it off the top of my head. He said he was a knight."
Oh dear.
"Ridder, was it?"
>"Oh! Oh yes, that's it! Sir Ridder, he called himself. You know him?"
"...Sir Ridder is... a very good friend and a close ally of mine. I apologize on his behalf for the indiscretion concerning the prisoner, and as your ally, I must ask that should you encounter him again, you extend to him your full hospitality, and all the respect you would give me."

Hello again.
Is everything all right with Master Muschio?
Things have been quiet and pleasant here. Dompag's in the other room with the prisoner.

Aren't you all impressed? I think I did pretty good.

Master Muschio's really impressed. Don't do anything too rash for a while, he's having a change of heart and needs time to think and reaffirm his views. This might mean good things for you~

>>

Uhm.. wow.. that was incredible... but we must inform you of something.

Muschio has recently met a childhood friend of his who's presence embarrassed him and turned him against the idea of rampantly pointless evil.

However, he still has legitimate grievances against the "royalty" of his kingdom thus you kinda broke even there. He has also resolved to pay more attention to the feelings of his assistants (which should bode well for your efforts.)

Finesse, stop it.

He already told us, he doesn't think your feelings for him are deep or long-lasting.
Your acts of impressioning him won't do anything - now.
He thinks it's a fleeting crush, nothing more.

...Which makes us think...

He rambled a lot about love being "a curse" and all that, and was suspiciously mysterious about that.
Why does he think so?
Was he hurt by love in the past?
He seems to be wary of "fleeting crushes"... was he hurt when such a crush left him in the past?

We know the man pretty good.
You know, he buried a man alive for playing a trick on him at school.
He decided to become a villain, and razed a whole city because he was persecuted as a child.
He seems to hold much importance for his past.

It all seems to fit now.
He doesn't not love you.
He may not be consciously consider it, but he cares about you, about your well-being, about your opinion.
He's just afraid it's a crush, that it'll go, and he'll be hurt - like he was already hurt in the past.

You've got to show him it's not at all so.

How did I do it? I thought Tislomer's drawings made that clear.
WHY did I do it? Well, to help Master Muschio, of course. And to prove to him I am still capable. I think he sees that now.

>Say... Are you really fine with endangering an innocent person?
The Princess isn't innocent. She's in line for a throne that should belong to Master Muschio. That's not fair.
But if Master Muschio is trying to be less evil, that's fine. I'm sure he'll succeed at whatever he tries. In that case maybe he can think up something else to do with the Princess. He's very smart. Actually, I thought that was why he was visiting the Tower again?

And if Master Muschio thinks this is just a passing crush, he's wrong. I've been waiting for this day my whole life. You know that.

You must show him he's wrong!
And not by capturing princesses (though it's a fine deed, of course, nothing wrong with that, just not for this goal).
Right now he just thinks it's a deed of a loyal min-- ally to impress her boss, nothing more.

You need to show him that your love is not a minor crush of an impressed young girl to a man of power, but a serious feeling, which won't let go.

>So how've things been going since the boss left? How are the others?
Everything's pretty quiet. Dompag's looking after the prisoner, Babrakus is doing inventory in the storeroom last I checked, and I think Tislomer is making potions as usual. The Odds are resting since they just finished the prison room and the Denlings are all out scouting around.

>You need to show him that your love is not a minor crush of an impressed young girl to a man of power, but a serious feeling, which won't let go.

Of course I'm in love with Muschio. If I wanted just anyone in his line I could have just gone after his father, right?

Since Dompag's busy keeping an eye on the prisoner and Ashedel isn't here I can still talk to Tislomer in her workshop about all this. But I get the feeling she's more naive about love than I am.

When he's back, and you're both not busy, ask him to just sit and have a quiet talk with you in the throne room, possibly over some tasty meal you prepared.
Ask him to tell you about his past.
The man seems to care too much for his past, and hides his feelings in a shell - remembering the "easier days" could open him up.

Then, when the opportunity's right, tell him about your past, about that story how his father saved your dad and other miners.
Tell him, in a humorous tone, about how you wanted to marry the Baron.
You'll both probably have a laugh, and at the same time this story could remind him to see non-humans not as minions, not as "lesser beings", but as equals.

For only equals can be loved.
