Revolution... Evolution... Change in shape and form...
The nuclear fires bathed the land and claimed it as its own. Twisted and mangled, those to witness would never recognize... Not only the wasteland, but what remains of its inhabitants and their way of life...
But war... War never changes...

Bloody VAULT TEC!

Whatever. Anyway, Deathclaws are huge orange things that live outside the Vault. They're EXCESSIVELY DANGEROUS.

Anyway, after obtaining bacon and putting on your pipboy, you should raid the armory (with Mk 3's permission) and obtain a large amount of WEAPONS AND ARMOR. Then, you should go OUTSIDE. There's cool stuff out there!

Just follow these simple instructions and I'm sure there won't be anything dangerous out there.

i see. but they will all die eventually. just indreed themselves to death. it will be a slow and horrible death, the children will eventually be born with mutations. ranging from sterility to having two faces and 1 limb and being in constant pain.the vaults are designed for containing 1000 people this can be turned into a easily defended bug town but they cannot stay isolated forever. new life is needed.

>>
No. 346190 ID: b1f0e2

ok so, you are a human who was modified by other humans to be able to communicate with bug-people. (which explains your beautiful eyes)
You have an adopted son. This explains it, for a moment we thought there was some weird biology defying cross species reproduction going on.

So basically, you are an augmented human in charge of a vault full of bug-people. Well lets see how things are:
1. Status of life support.
2. Availability of technology knowledge (computers with all tech)
3. Status of manufacturing capabilities.

I am thinking, rather then opening the vault we should expand downwards, in the deepest part of the vault, cut open the floor and dig into the earth, extract raw materials and expand into a hive. Earth can be compacted, a lot, to make reinforced walls as you spread ever deeper, growing ever wider.

You're going to eventually want to open the vault to investigate the state of the world and increase the vault's genetic diversity, Pipepipepipe. When that happens you're going want the search parties to wear clothing and carry weapons, and since they'll probably be incapable of human speech patterns you'll want to go with them to act as a translator.
Oh, and robots. You'll want lots and lots of robots.
>>
No. 346200 ID: b1f0e2

>>346191
1. They already have great water recycling system in place as well as extra water in storage. (although we shouldn't drain our reservoirs)
2. Extra water will thus only be needed if the population itself wishes to grow beyond a certain point not for the digging and construction process.
3. Eventually they will have to get more (since the idea is to increase population not just size of colony) which would be done via:
A. Tap into underground rivers, tap into one in the process of digging.
B. Short excursions to the outside to get water.
C. Water is just dihydrogen monoxide. You get water by burning hydrogen. Hydrogen and oxygen are found naturally in various minerals within the earth. Which can be extracted (albeit slowly and with lots of effort, we have the time and manbugpower).

A is by far the most easy and plausible. It will be a plentiful source of water and oxygen, with nitrogen & carbon being recoverable from rocks. (Air composition is 78.084% Nitrogen, 20.946% Oxygen, less than 1% a bunch of other gasses... only important one is carbon dioxide which is 0.039%)
>>
No. 346202 ID: b6edd6

>>346196
But if its just uplifted bugs, where would they get genetic diversity from? Unless they know enough about the uplift process to replicate it, using unmodified bugs for genetic diversity would be potentially worse than the generic bottleneck (which can sometimes be survived).
>>
No. 346221 ID: b1f0e2

I am pretty sure they are naturally mutated rather then uplifted via intentional genetic engineering.

>Genetic diversity
That will come naturally via mutations.
A very small population CAN end up all dead due to being stuck with defective recesssive genes but it is not a guarentee. Experiments with organisms as complex as mice who are inbred to the point of complete genetic uniformity to live as viable specimens.

Open the vault does not magically cause an influx of genetic diversity into the population. You have to find genetically compatible individuals and bring them here. If it ever does become a problem, then at that point either we solve it via genetic engineering or we send people out of the vault then.

Do you want this to be a digging game, or a sneaking game! The latter will mean that you sneak on the surface for plentiful if short lived resources. Remember the sun is the key. Without sunlight you'll never eat right! The sunlight makes the leaves and the leaves feed the bugs, and the bugs feed you! Do not disparage the underground, however! Sunlight can make and it can also destroy, so hide your leaves berries preserves and smoked meat underground to keep the sunlight from taking them back! Take from the surface and store in the ground, and you'll have plenty to eat and time left over to make love!
>>
No. 346278 ID: b1f0e2

>>346239
>Sunlight
only use the sun serves is a power source, and they obvious have power and artificial lights (which completely negate the need for a sun).
Keep in mind we are a leader of these people, we can't go around personally sneaking around places.
If we build an underground empire it is BOUND to emerge to the surface world eventually and in a much better position to do, well, anything really.

They all start that way. It doesn't last.
What kind of weaponry is available in the vault? And how many of the inhabitance can use them effectively? If you have to open the vault you'll need to send out scout parties, and they're pointless if they don't make it back. Seriously, a couple of bugs cannot take on a Deathclaw without some significant firepower. If you want to know what a Deathclaw is just imagine something 10 foot tall, with teeth as big as your thumbs, and claws as big as your arms. It can run twice as fast as you, jump twice as high as you and if it catches you it'll rip you in half with one blow. You can shoot one of these things clean through the head with an armour-piercing round and it'll still have time to pull out your entrails before it realises its dead. So yeah your armoury better be fucking stocked to the roof with missile launchers and mini-guns.

the smaller versions of ants and bees are pretty much masters of structural engineering. once the doors open set them to fortifying the entrance. hopefully instinct about building comes back to them. the mantises and scorps are guards. mantises have an entire form of martial arts named after them due to the lighting strike speed of their claws. and scorpians have those stingers and poison. course you need to exit first and have them stay hidden in case humans were waiting for your vault to open.

Have you ever looked in the room where they said they sealed off the humans? Because things might not be what you think they are.

Anyway, you're going to need to prepare if you're going outside. Weapons and armour is good. But you're also going to need other supplies, like stuff for making camp, clean food and water, medical supplies, stuff to trade for whatever they use for money and stuff to carry it all in. And shit is going to be hard on the outside, you will need to make food for yourself scavenge and forage for lots of the stuff you take for granted and be wary of other people, lots of people out there would rape you, kill you and then eat you as well as steal everything you own.

... Attention vault111... I have bad news... Our water is of now limited and under ration. But don't worry my brothers, sisters, fathers and mothers... I will venture out side of the vault. In search of a new water chip... And when I come back, everything will be back to normal... Until my return Mark will substitute me as overseer... Not that it will change anything, he already basically runs the place... In the off chance that I can't find the proper pieces for our systems, I want you all to start digging in search for water... Let's all hope for the best... You're my family and I love you. Over...

I'm coming with you

Yes.
Tell them to start making Vault 111 jumpsuits for themselves. Clothing is the difference between a wild animal and domestic or sentient beings. I'm not expecting this to matter until you return, but the fact that it could is cause enough for the investment.
Also, tell Mark to not make repeated attempts at repairs if he keeps botching them, and see if he can talk anybody else through repairing his servos.

the cams at least confirm the outside was not a near miss so you can walk around and not be irradiated to death instantly.

and yes, while their bodies are tougher due to their exoskeletons so the primary purpose of clothes is useless a secondary purpose still works, a sign of intellect.

Wikipedia to the rescue!

"Sexual cannibalism is common among mantises in captivity, and under some circumstances may also be observed in the field. The female may start feeding by biting off the male’s head (as they do with regular prey), and if mating had begun, the male’s movements may become even more vigorous in its delivery of sperm."

Huh. That must be why ||| makes such a good mate for him.

"The mating season in temperate climates typically begins in autumn. To mate following courtship, the male usually leaps onto the female’s back, and clasps her thorax and wing bases with his forelegs. He then arches his abdomen to deposit and store sperm in a special chamber near the tip of the female’s abdomen. The female then lays between 10 and 400 eggs, depending on the species. Eggs are typically deposited in a frothy mass that is produced by glands in the abdomen. This froth then hardens, creating a protective yadda yadda yadda"

Apparently, european manti, from which the giant manti in Fallout have evolved, can take several hours to mate. Good for her.

When communicating with someone who favors coming up with moral reasons to do or not do things, moral logic is more likely to be convincing. When communicating with someone who does not favor morals, it's best to attempt to find more immediate rational reasons because they'll respond better to that sort of logic. As long as the conclusion is the same, what does it matter which is used?

>That was informative. So next stop: that town!
Seeing as they just warned you against the humans, I would be wary of them. In particular, I'd be concerned that they might not take to Honey terribly well; he strikes me as looking like something they might decide to shoot. I could have sworn the costume had an ant on the chest, not a spider. Six legs and a pair of mandibles.

Anyways, not sure I remember her story too well. But I think her family was killed and she started living with ants or some-such thing.
Ended up thinking ants were better than humans and started "fighting" a guy called the Mechanist who used robots to combat her ants until some random wanderer dealt with the mess. Not sure how it actually ended, but obviously she survived well enough.

Really, all you need to know is that she was cool and can talk to ants as well as other bugs, apparently and perhaps animals as well, like you.

She was the leader of a colony of giant ants just north of DC. The colony was near a major trade hub, unfortunately, and eventually the local mechanic started sending out attack bots to keep the ants away from the town. Things escalated to ridiculous levels, and by summer of '77 the Antagonizer and the Machinist (as he came to call himself) were fighting in the streets every day. Eventually the Lone Wanderer (the guy Three Dog was talking about) came through and forcibly broke things up.

Also, that looks really good on you. Keep it.

Haheh don't worry bout that honey. You're the only man for me, and there ain't no one who can out match you.

So it's around 3h. Should we get going now and camp out there? Or stay in town for tonight?

I hope you're talking about sex when you say "out match". Because if a deathclaw wants to kill you it will. If it wants to fuck you it will. Pretty much if it wants to do something and the only thing stopping it is made of flesh, it will be doing whatever it god damn pleases.

Excuse me for a second while I stop myself from having an aneurysm. Honesty.

OK. Now that that;s taken care of, please, let's not be always pointing out the vulgar in situations before it is direly necessary. Honestly, it's getting annoying, and seems like me and my various other personalities are the only ones with any shred of 'Not-Perverted' in us.

Moving on.

And seriously. We will be moving on from this topic.

This is the wasteland. Optimism gets you killed here. I simply meant that if we go to meet the deathclaws we have no way of dealing with them if they want to kill us. Which is very likely as they are the meanest bastards in this god for-saken desert. So we shouldn't just be waltzing up to them going, "Top of the morning mister deathclaw! Might you join me for a cup of tea?"

teehee~ Calm down honey, they're just as confused as we are. Give them a second to get oriented.

yeah well they're also very bipolar.

Listen guys we're not quite sure where you want to send us so we'll recap our choices.
Vault 30 is not to far but there's deathclaws in the surrounding area.
Vault 28 is a little farther away but we can stop in those ruins we saw early this morning.
Honey and I will just wait here until you can agree on our heading.

Machines don't breathe, silly! That's a soldier in POWER ARMOR!

Keep watch, there may be others about... Wait, BLACK armor? Weird. The Brotherhood wear Grey armor, and the Enclave wear Green. This guy is either with NCR, or maybe a wanderer. It's unlikely that he's Brotherhood, so he won't rob you, the other guys are dead or friendly respectively, and Cannibal Rapists lack the coordination to utilize power armor.

Either way, just keep watching him. Do you hear gunfire or animalistic roars, and is he injured?

The enclave was disbanded years ago. He is either a remnant and probably won't hurt you. Or a very successful wanderer who would really have nothing to gain by hurting you. He should be friendly but stay where you can dive to cover if necessary.

ffffFFFFFit's the enclave. be very, very careful. these guys are the ultimate foil to the bug/human friendship thing you've got going on there. if they don't outright kill you, they'll capture you and perform outrageous experiments that'll make you wish they did and by the time they do they'll be one step closer to having developed some sort of virus that'll kill anything that isn't 100% pure and non-mutated.

112 is in the DC area. It's an experimental virtual reality/stasis vault.
The stasis doesn't prevent aging, but does prevent procreation. There are no children from vault 112.

The Enclave got into a war with a Brotherhood of Steel splinter group in DC a few years back and was decimated.

These two are probably safe. Make introductions from a few dozen feet away.
>>

They're from DC. The adult is wearing Enclave armor, but AFAIK the DC Enclave didn't use hammers like that. That means, the armor's stolen. And there's only one person in DC who's good enough to take on the Enclave.

All things considered, you are most likely looking at the Lone Wanderer, or a friend thereof.
>>
No. 358318 ID: 99f447

It's true, the enclave mainly used energy weapons, also, they've been wiped out. Thats a pneumatic hammer though, the Super Sledge(TM), and that makes him several times more dangerous than you or anyone you've ever met.

I think it's unlikely it's the wanderer, he died when project purity went active.
>>
No. 358324 ID: a2fa74

>>358318
Pfft. The Lone Wanderer traveled around with a Ghoul and a Super Mutant, and they allegedly died from fatal radiation exposure. While those two were standing right next to the LW. And the battle was long over.

They would need to be the dumbest person in the world to not send their rad-immune friends in. Or the least charismatic person ever to not be able to talk a Super Mutant or Ghoul into taking a relaxing rad bath.

There's screwing up and dying, and then there's blatantly faking your own death. Somebody allegedly so competent wouldn't make such a moronic mistake.
